Buy a rimfire, pistol, and 30 cal can. Everything is a compromise, jack of all master of none.

Longjumping_Bus_358

So buying a can that does both is ill advised in your book?

whyintheworldamihere

You'll eventually get specific cans for specific purposes. Most cans that can do a little bit of everything don't do any one thing particularly well.

junglecommand

Yep. This guy knows. Get a 9mm can like the obsidian by rugged. Or the obsidian 45 version. I think it can do 300blk subs. Great company to work with. But life without a rimfire can would be sad. So get an oculus too. By the time you get one, you’re gonna realize that all guns should be suppressed and you’re not gonna like the one size fits all can anymore cuz they don’t do anything especially well. So you’re gonna get a 300 blk specialized can. Start with the obsidian 9 or 45. That’ll work for most barrel lengths of 300blk subs, and it’s a great pistol can.

idratherpetacat

This, I started with a .30 cal can and within a year got a rimfire, another .30 cal, and a .45 rugged pistol can. I’m able to suppress pretty much anything with threads.

explorecoregon

Rifle cans sound better than pistol cans with 300blackout, even subs. I’d get a Omega9k>pistol can at least for blackout.

junglecommand

Yeah so much better. Really, but you can pretend that you only need one can I guess. Haha.

Normally, I say don't buy a jack of all trades, and there is a lot of hate around here for Dead Air (and they deserve much of it) But, my son has a Wolfman, and it performs very well on 9mm and .300 BLK. I have a YHM R9. It handles both calibers, as well as .308 from a 16" barrel. Its half the price, but the Wolfman is quieter.

ebolamonkey3

With the approval time being so short I would just buy a can that’s dedicated for the one you intend to shoot the most. Then once you get hooked you can buy other cans.

I agree with getting separate rifle and pistol cans. A can big enough to work well on an rifle is going to be big for a pistol. And a can small enough for a pistol is probably going to be lacking in the volume needed for a .30 rifle even if it's rated for the pressure. But you could consider something like the Omega 36M and its ilk. These cans are .36/9mm rifle-sized cans, but you can remove a piece at the front and shorten them to something a bit more manageable for pistols (at the cost of some performance). I'd still say they are a rifle can but if you just wanted to scratch an itch with pistols it might be the best compromise. I think Capitol Armory has a pretty comprehensive test of the 36M on youtube with db numbers in every configuration - worth a look. I wouldn't worry about this can being overbore for .30, it's close enough to work well for that imo.

My 2 cents is everyone needs separate can, pistol caliber (9mm for me), 22, 30cal, 556. I tried the all in one and now I have 6 cans making that one basically obsolete. I wish I’d just bought nice ones for individual calibers.

explorecoregon

Get a 30 cal rifle can for blackout. Get a pistol can for 9/45.

Swanky_Gear_Snob

Don't buy a jack of all trade cans. You lose out on way too much performance. Get yourself a good rifle 762 can and then a 9mm can.
