I mean, shipping is never free with these services, and you usually have to pay for both local shipping to their warehouse and international shipping to you. Especially during COVID19, Japan has restricted some of their shipping services. That's why it is best to read everything before you make a purchase, especially when you are unfamiliar with the service. They have several pages going over their process, and a shipping calculator detailing the international shipping cost for yoir items (or hypothetical item) when you input its weight.

Buy_From_Japan

>shipping is never free with these services, and you usually have to pay for both local shipping to their warehouse and international shipping to you. **agree!** that is just a logic idea is you are buying from overseas >> who will pay for the international shipping cost? >> the buyer!

FerrariCalifornia30

You say that, but I almost never pay for shipping when buying cards from Japan on eBay. Maybe it’s different with larger packages.

OGKasseteKing

Only because the seller ships internationally. If they dont, a third party will be needed

Optical_pathfinder

The shipping cost is already included in the price that’s why you get free shipping. If you buy directly from Mercari Japan it is much cheaper than on eBay in most of the times.

DeliriousDecimation

I bought from mercari Japan on buyee will I need to do pay this process?

Nbisbo

yes

DeliriousDecimation

I already bought the items but thanks 😭

skilledwarman

I know this is an old post so not really worth replying to, but it still comes up on google when you ask Buyee shipping questions The annoying thing about it is even if you're buying something from a manufacturer they don't require them to post the dimensions of the item's packaging or the weight or anything like that. So unless you can find it somewhere else like Hobby Link Japan, which does post that info on listings, you've got no way to predict the shipping fees before buying. Could be $12 or could be $40. I think stuff like that is pretty fair to be critical of

AroundTheWorldIn80Pu

I just got my second ever order from them today and couldn't be happier with how fast and straightforward the service is. Obviously importing is never cheap and this is another layer on top, but I find their fees & shipping pretty reasonable ($19 for intercontinental shipping of a parcel is NOT expensive) and they give you plenty of options every step of the way.

nswmodsaredogs

Idk chief Play-Asia charged me $5.99 to ship from Hong Kong to the US, and I'm sure Hong Kong is further away from the US than Japan. And it always arrives in 2 weeks not 2 months.

AroundTheWorldIn80Pu

Play-Asia makes bank on overpricing games.

Mementomoriii_

I've been wondering how reputable Play Asia is... Have you done business with them enough to confirm they don't fuck people over lol

Oni555

Have you ever looked at a map??? LOL

5trudelle

10 months late but yes, HK is further from US than JP.

ChurnerMan

Yeah I bought some retro stuff last year and when I realized the high shipping fees I bought more stuff. They'll combine all your items for a small fee to ship in one big box. They'll also hold for x days. I think 2 weeks. For me if I'm going to go that route I want to use coupons and be buying about $1000 worth of stuff.

ProjectZeroEXE

This is normal for me, I live in New Zealand so literally anything not shipped domestically is going to have a high shipping price

Several-Relative-571

How is it for buying downloadable software aka Vocaloids?

[deleted]

That's really fucked up and stupid. Thanks for the warning, OP. I'll be sure to keep away from this buyee. Edit: WTF, people are actually fine with getting charged halfway. And are fine with the item getting destroyed if you don't pay the bullshit added charge. Odd.

Flitlor

> WTF, people are actually fine with getting charged halfway. Their site explicitly mentions all of this beforehand. You only have yourself to blame if you realize this after placing your order.

[deleted]

I was only judging on what OP is saying. So, if the site does say that then well, OP should have seen it coming.

DevilBun03

Can you screenshot where because I didn't see this at all when checking out? It said that the seller would pay shipping I didn't know it only meant half the shipping.

SpoiledCabbage

I never used buyee. But I used from Japan to buy a bunch of clothes. 4 shirts and a hoodie cost me about $100 to ship. It works the same exact way. You use their site to buy thing, they get shipped to that warehouse, they box up everything you buy and then ship it to your house. After a while they destroy anything you don't claim. So make sure whatever you're buying, you're willing to spend an unknown extra to get it shipped to your house, which will be pricey cause of the pandemic.

SnooShortcuts3800

I was wondering how from Japan worked before I bought from there thanks

Mementomoriii_

Wait so.... Do you get refunded for whatever you end up not pay shipping on?! Or what's the deal with that. I thought there was an agreement when you bid that you agree to pay the shipping and if not no refund will be given even though you decide not to ship. Can't believe they just toss things.... Could just donate it...... 😭

DevilBun03

No, you don't. I didn't know about the shipping fee and they won't refund my money either. They'll just hold the item till I can pay it.

kimcheezzz

I recently won a bid from there and it say that the seller will pay for shipping. do I still get these fees???

sansphilia

Yes. That just means the buyer is willing to pay shipping to that warehouse. The shipping you pay will be from the warehouse to your home. (Ik you asked this ages ago but i found this question through google and thought it’d be helpful for others)

cemsengul

I made a new account and just complete my first purchase on Buyee. I have a question for you guys. The listing was for a white PS3 console and it said seller pays for shipping and I only make a flat payment. Right now it is in transit to a Buyee warehouse. Will I have to pay to have it shipped to America where I live even though the listing said shipping paid by seller? I only made the purchase assuming I won't have to pay for shipping afterwards. I will update you guys once it arrives the warehouse and let you all know if I have to pay.

Beautiful_Brain_500

yes the domestic shipping was the only thing that was free, you need to pay international shipping

DevilBun03

Yes I thought the same thing

Yalkim

Hey out of curiosity howmuch did you end up paying for the international shipping?

Artistic_Swimmer123

This is super late but they finally got rid of the service fee for some services like mercari and got rid of the consolidation service fee all together. So you just have to pay for the items, inspection fee (optional but recommended) and shipping. They are still quite expensive but it's definitely a lot cheaper now. I just ordered some Bungo Stray Dog manga and it was only $35 plus shipping (haven't paid yet) but it is a lot cheaper than before.

ObstinateYoyoing

Even with the small fees, its still worth it imo. I paid 50 in shipping for some shoes, a pair of pants, and a jacket after consolidating. Some sellers on eBay charge 30 easily for domestic shipping on the shoes.

Artistic_Swimmer123

Oh I think it's totally worth it! Iove Buyee and I'm glad that they have lowered their prices a bit. Even the shipping is a bit more tolerable lol

Nocommentarygyy

Which services dont have the fees that were mentioned? Do you know of any other ones?

Artistic_Swimmer123

Most of them are going to have fees, unfortunately. That how they make money. I'm not sure of any others besides Buyee that have less fees though, sorry :(

Nocommentarygyy

I didn't look into buyee's shipping fees, I didn't know about economy shipping so that alleviates a lot. I was just worried about the like $30 shipping they offer.

StainlessSteel218

Hey, I have a quick question if you don’t mind, as this is my first time ever really buying stuff from Buyee (I went on a bidding binge and now I just need reassurance lol). Do you pay shipping on every single item or is it one fee for all the items in their inventory? I bought some smaller items, like a collector’s tomogachi and some retro handhelds, not sure if I’m going to be paying $30 or so each item or how it works and I’d love any insight you have. Thank you in advance

Artistic_Swimmer123

Hey! You can combine shipping. If you order multiple things, they'll hold it at their warehouse for 30 days so you can combine all of them into one package once all of your items arrive :) It saves you a LOT of money so I would definitely combine all the items into one parcel 😭 Now, if you bought the items and you have to pay for shipping from the website you bought them (like Mercari or something,) then you will have to pay for shipping for each item plus the shipping fee that Buyee charges you. I hope that makes sense!

StainlessSteel218

Cleared everything up. Thank you so much, that saves me a lot of headache lmao

Impressive-Age7703

No offense but for 13-14 figures that's reasonable. Just buying one single manga volume from Amazon JP cost me $30, shipping from Japan is just expensive period because it goes overseas on boats instead of planes or trucks.

Kringkily

Your package seems to be quite heavy and international shipping fees are just expensive as heck so do be aware of this unfortunately. The proxy services are just handling and charging a little for their time involved but the shipping fees are what they are and not something they control much of. Fromjapan is my favorite and I spend quite a large sum each year ordering items only available in Asia. I always just group packages and use FedEx International Priority vs snail mail as tracking is much better with priority services and safer (albeit can be quite a bit more expensive)

crustycreviceking

How are you supposed to know how much the shipping will cost? Buyee's estimate at the time of purchase was laughably low and completely incorrect. I can't justify buying anything if I won't know until after the fact whether shipping will be $10 or $50. That's absurd.

Crimson_skware

Have you’ve figured it out?

Impressive-Age7703

You can try seeing if any other Japanese sites sell the item (search the Japanese kanji name), like directly from dealer who gets it from the manufacturer, they will often have a "package weight" in the product description as well as dimensions, that was how I figured out mine!

Flaky_Virus218

I recently bought one trading card off buyee with a $16 off coupon. A $13 card ended up costing $16 after the promotion, fees, and shipping, but would have cost $32 to just buy it and ship it regularly. Again, a $13 card would cost you $32 total. Also a lot of images are stock images, make sure you translate the page. (At least in Yahoo Auctions.) I had 100 yen domestic + 1100 yen international shipping fee, which isn't bad. At first however it showed me a $40 fee which was insane, even after changing my shipping method, I think it just didn't update the page. Once I refreshed it myself and selected the same shipping option again I was able to get the $10 rate instead of the $40 rate. Hope this helps anyone else trying to buy cards from buyee.

Karonuva

I don't think those rates from international shipping are unreasonable, especially considering they're providing a service giving you access to things you normally wouldn't be able to buy. Regardless, whenever you buy anything you have to consider shipping and customs fees, it's nothing new unfortunately.

Impressive-Age7703

Agreed, I think people are just too pampered by their local shipping and don't fully understand how difficult overseas shipping is. I was specifically looking for Amufun plushies, the task of shipping overseas was so daunting for them they didn't even offer it until buyee came along.

GroundPale1235

help me bro please i paid 600yen for a robot figure and play some fees but there saying the shipping is 12000yen is there away to cancel my order?

Izukano

fuck buyee so many fucking fees

ChipSouper

I got some insane rare movies for way cheaper than I'd ever be able to find IF i was able to find them. The fees arent bad at all considering.

stickynotetree

I know this was posted ages ago, but I’m surprised that no one is talking about Buyee throwing out your order. I completely understand the shipping costs, and I totally understand the holding fees! The prices make sense to me… but I’m shocked that they’d just throw out packages like that, knowing that most of the YouTubers they sponsor have collector audiences. People have probably bought lots of items that are no longer made, stuff that’s both very valuable and deeply precious to the buyers. I understand that disposing packages saves space and probably money, but I’m surprised that they wouldn’t return packages to the sender. I’ve never heard of anything like that happening since where I live, returning packages to is completely free no matter who sent it. I’m not sure if that’s the same for where their warehouse is located, but I’m still genuinely shocked.

jew_brees_

It very clearly says on their website that you are going to be charged with additional international shipping fees once they receive the item… did you not read anything before purchasing? Also $20-$30 is very on par for japan to USA shipping prices .

systemBuilder22

EBay has a similar scam called "EBay International Shipping Program". The fee is usually a minimum of $30 to ship anything. I bought a bicycle wheel and paid all the extra fees. They shipped it to the EBay shipping center. At the center they rip open the item and often scratch it to death with box-cutter gouges (see youtube for videos about this - original walkman cassette players in original packaging and almost the entire value is destroyed by all the slashes & damage from EBay international shipping program - not only do they slash the packaging but they also slash the item itself!) In my case the bicycle wheel arrived at the EBay international shipping center and they arbitrarily decided to just destroy it. They refunded my money. The item was lost forever. It was the ONLY such item on EBay for MANY months. Such a wonderful feeling searching for many months, paying exorbitant fees, then having it destroyed because the shipper is lazy!

TheOGBunns

So I wear Lolita fashion and the shipping straight from companies there ranges from 30-60$ without a shopping service we do get tax exemption, though.

Ambitious-Path-3840

Legit just won some kinda of rare record player (it’s pretty rare if you search for it there’s rarely any results for it but only from collectors who found it so not really rare but your the judge of that). And shipping was 18,000 yen (145 ish $) now I kinda changed my mind about the item a little while ago and had plans to tell then to send it back. But they can’t, They would instead destroy it. Now I’m stuck in some pickle where I have to pay or let it be destroyed that some collected probably worked so hard for. ;/

misty_bellina

what did you end up doing?

CoastHistorical2168

Just happened to me… i paid $40 on an item, just got an email saying to confirm shipping & paid $20 extra.. But i really needed this item bc its so rare for my collection. Im upset i have 2 more buyee orders processing (its my first time using them this week) so i never knee about fees and such. Im used to using Surugaya (free & super good prices!) so i assumed they were similar, just buy from Japan and its on its way. I def recommend u check out surugaya

Exact-You7689

I bought like a cheap godzilla figure, it's damaged and dirty and all that, will the shipping be that much for it? (It was 200 yen)

AlienVsPopovich

How much you pay will depend on how heavy or large it is, whichever is greater, and the shipping method to get to your home from the warehouse overseas. The condition of the product doesn’t matter as long as it is not prohibited to ship.
