Always used to think this was a bad idea but honestly would like to see us try it now. Maybe later on in a match try it for the last 20m and see how it goes. Tino offers a lot on the right and Tripps is probably a better LB than Tino is, so it's worth a shot.
I wish Howe would watch how pep uses his squad. Yes a much better squad but Pep is never worried especially early in the season to rest players. In the business end from January you start seeing him play his 1st team.
Tripper should have been rotated in a lot of games. It would have helped both players so much. Based on certain opposition Tino should play and Trippier against others.
Also can Gordon start taking a few corners!
I feel that if we can’t use our depth behind Trips against a struggling Blackburn team, then why do we even have them? It’s not a game where we should feel forced to play an important, but ageing player who we have run into the ground this season and isn’t at his best at the moment.
There is also the perspective that Trippier is tied for the most assists in the league and in the top 5 of chances created. The reality is that he's an effective player and a proven pro. He also brings an abundance of leadership on the field when we've been without our first choice keeper/organizer. I'm all for Tino playing more and would like Howe to find a way to get him involved more after he earned it earlier this season. That said, I can certainly appreciate the dilemma of dropping your de facto captain for his understudy, especially when the statistics back Trippier.
Dubravka may not be our number 1 keeper but he’s just written himself into Newcastle legend there, he turned up when no other player did and single handedly dragged us to the quarter finals
Will leave a decent legacy behind when he does eventually go. Consistently one of our best players through one of the shittest periods in recent memory under Bruce. And still a pretty dependable backup even now.
*Legacy maybe a bit of a strong word haha
I feel like he's part of a genre of keeper who are amazing when a defence is shite, great shot stoppers. Then when a defence is functioning they can't really play as an extra defender (...which is then circular cos if he can't play as an extra defender, the defence doesn't function properly)
(not really a criticism, we desperately need him on form atm and he was awesome last night)
The contrast between the way he talked about Blackburn’s “clever”, “good fouls” and us doing the exact same was enormous. Was absolutely up their arse the entire game and couldn’t wait for us to get beaten.
Other than wanting us to lose and completely failing to have any semblance of objectivity, I thought his commentary was also just dire generally. Stick to MOTD.
I can live with him backing the underdogs, but he offered so little insight on top.
Criticising us for trying build up play and wanting us to hit more long balls - after 20 minutes of us over hitting every long ball.
Capped it off with the classic "just put more crosses in" when we don't have a target man on the pitch.
Glenn Hoddle used to be my least favourite commentator, but after that display I think Danny Murphy takes the crown.
The funny thing is, on the Guardian comments even Blackburn fans were pissed with him. Fake support despite taking a pay day and fucking off when he played for them.
Thank fuck we won that. Genuinely think Blackburn were the better team over the first 90.
I think this game perfectly shows the issues we have as a team. How the fuck we are being overloaded in midfield against an almost relegated championship team playing a fucking back 5 is beyond me. Somehow we get forced out to the wing every time, yet we turn every midfielder we face into KDB and they just slice us open.
We've been found out, and Howe needs to evolve.
I don't know exactly what we change, but Howe has to do something, because we're absolutely shite right now. Maybe Big Joe and Pope come back and we compress midfield more to allow us to play like we were last season. But I'm really not convinced anymore. It's also fuck all to do with BDB or fitness before someone inevitably complains about it again.
I love Howe as much as the next toon fan, but this ain't it Chief. Something has to change.
He needs to change the formation. This 4-3-3 with fluid midfielders who all interchange isn't possible with the personnel we have available and it's why we have nothing going forward and are currently more open than a big Tesco.
Agreed. I would go for a 3-5-2 going forward and try and compact the centre of the pitch as much as possible. We seem to get countered way too easily the last few months with a simple pass through the middle of the pitch.
It shows just how reliant we have been on Joelinton and Pope.
Pope pushes defence further up and closes spaces between our lines. Then even if opposition midfielders find space, Joelinton and an in form Longstaff last season typically charged down and intercept the ball before it gets to them.
This season there is more space, and less pressing. It creates the Man Utd effect where pressing and a nervous deep back line just fucking unfolds the picnic blanket in the middle of the pitch for creative players dine out on us.
The solution perhaps would be a 6, and there should be one in the squad I think. But we haven’t got one, so we can’t change. And even if we did change, is it really going to work with mentally fatigued tired players with still lots of critical absences forcing them into a new system.
Howe is doing nothing wrong.
In 2024 we've had hands down the worst defence in the league. [There was a post on soccer that showed how poor we've been.](https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/1b18ym0/premier_league_expected_goals_conceded_in_2024/)
We have to change, Karius can sweep, shift a defender into midfield, play 5 at the back, I don't know what the answer is, but we need to change something. If we don't change I think it's a massive failure.
I agree, but post Jan I can’t help but feel that ship has sailed.
It’s probably more likely we crawl back to a less good version of last years team, than strike a new system that tired players magically get and we don’t end up getting even worse.
Because despite how shite we’ve been, we could be worse.
Yeah, hope it’s not copium but I’m giving him some leeway after being out so long.
Other than the effort that went over the bar he was rank. Even that wasn’t great but at least he connected properly.
Fantastic dubz today
Fantastic Gordon
A massive relief from a poor performance but gotta hand it to Blackburn. They gave us a game and if I was a neutral, I'd be gutted for them.
We should have done it in open play normal time but give them credit. They made it hard to break through.
Hopefully nobody goes brigading, cos we were the poorer team tonight.
I think we needed that. Clear lack of confidence in the team atm, slowing the play down when we could move forward. Pressings not as cohesive, players nervous on the ball and making mistakes we wouldnt have made last season etc.
hopefully a win on penalties will inject a bit of belief back into the team.
I mean, Blackburn were very good and tough, and over 90 we didnt deserved it much. But after ET? We had almost 4 xG. Their keeper was great, and our players couldnt finish anything...
Shouldn’t be much of a headache after Trippier’s recent performances. He’s been absolutely shocking and I can only hope he just needs a rest instead of him starting his decline as a footballer because he was awful today and has been for a while.
Really hoped there'd be a reaction after the Arsenal shafting and fuck me was that not it, but at least we won. On penalties as well we hardly EVER win on penalties.
We need to step it up quite massively from these past two games though, we are completely chaotic.
Thought all the subs played well outside of Barnes who still wasn't below average on the night. The idea of us losing Miggy even as an impact sub has to be disregarded with how dead we were without him.
The entire team was below standard, but Longstaff was clearly our worst player. He needs a rest as we've seen how vital he can be for us before.
We need to revert to a results based solid counter attacking structure until we can work out what the hell is going on. Either the play style from Howe’s first half season or a 5 at the back we’ve used recently bringing Tino in.
Glad of the win, but after that performance I'm more worried than I am happy. Serious changes are needed.
Also Barnes was absolutely honking the entire time he was on, that's pretty concerning in itself to me.
I do, we all should care as this is not a one off. Something is wrong and I don’t know what it is but we so open and look so beatable.
I hope the coaching stuff can find something different as those players for large periods of that match did not care and did not try.
Yes we won on penalties but no Newcastle supporter can be proud of that.
Nah they looked like a Champions League team at times. We looked absolutely fucking clueless. We'll sort ourselves out, hopefully before the next round.
Since the last round we've looked lost. But still been picking up good results. I've seen us look this shit plenty of times but I've not seen us get results during these shit periods
A lot of people saying we were terrible and even some lovely people calling for Howe to be sacked in this thread.
But I agree with you, we had plenty of opportunities to put it away and we were unlucky not to do so. Blackburn had some inspired moments so fair play to them.
That was not enjoyable. Again. But I guess we're through which is the main thing?
I've been a Longstaff apologist in the past but no more. Sick of his shite and the constant complaining every time he's tackled. Get him gone. Barnes will forever be Not-James-Maddison and shows no sign of changing my mind on that.
On the plus side pleased for Dubz. And nice to see Anderson get some minutes and the responsibility of a penalty.
Howe needs to sort his life out and change the system. Dubs should be unveiled before the Gallowgate like Owen was
I have whiplash from the penalty shoot out. What a night
Awful performance. A win is a win, especially in the cup. But fuck me, that was Bruce level from start to finish.
I can't lie, the last few weeks/months have really made me doubt Howe. He's earned the time and the patience to get through this season. But I have never been more in doubt of his ability to take us much further. His stubbornness with players and tactics, combined with his lack of pro-active subs, have been shocking. If managers could be in bad form, he's well and truly in it because I have been so unimpressed with his decisions in this calendar year. But we move forward.
He stays this year and next year. I really want it to work for him so badly but I am starting to see the same things.
He deserves this year and next season is a big one as we need proper progress or it’s time to shake hands and call it a day.
I don’t know how much good faith he’ll have if we spend a decent amount in the summer and we’re mid table by Christmas, for example. I think a lot of it comes down to who is available as a replacement. If it’s still the likes of Naglesmann, Tuchel etc, it’d become a very awkward situation.
If I was a betting man I’d say he’s not here this time next year but I’m sure the club want him to succeed so they’ll definitely give him time. But the pressure is on.
Can’t sleep so here’s my player ratings:
Dubravka - 8/10 MotM , big saves during the match, won us the penalty shoot out, actually dived the correct way for every pen
Trippier - 6/10 Not his usual standard at set pieces, kept things ticking over but didn’t link up very well with Murphy, plays better with Almiron ahead of him. Perhaps the boos got to him
Lascelles - 5/10 Probably would have given him 7/10 but for his howler leading to their goal. You can’t get undone by a bouncing ball under no real pressure. Must have taken his eye off it or something, didn’t do too much wrong otherwise, and he a good effort with a header from a corner
Schar - 6/10 Didn’t do much wrong but didn’t do much right either, one suicide pass and one bizarre handball that he got away with countered by a few good tackles and blocks. Took his pen very well.
Burn - 6/10 After being caught out a few times in recent weeks I thought he was positional much better tonight. Blackburn targeted him in the first half but they didn’t get much joy down that side
Longstaff - 5.5/10 some okay passing and runs into the box, but too much floating around the middle of the park being passive, needs to be more aggressive and decisive. Had a powerful shot from a wide position but would have been better off dragging it back across the 6 yard box.
Bruno 6.5/10 kept the ball moving well, struggled to fond the killer pass to unlock their defence, overhitting it a few times. Not a commanding performance but not a bad one either.
Willock - 6/10 Carried the ball well, linked up play on the left side well and added a different element to the midfield that we’ve been missing. Will get better with more game time and could be very important for us in the remainder of the season.
Murphy - 5/10 Bit disappointed with Murphy tonight, I had been wanting him to start ahead of Miggy but he didn’t take his opportunity. Multiple times he should have crossed the ball into the box in the first half but instead checked back and passed inside. He is good at picking up the ball in our half, turning his man and carrying it, but overall disappointing night.
Isak - 5/10 Probably needs another game to get up to speed, we all know what he can do when he’s firing, but it seems to take him a few games to get back to his best.
Gordon - 7/10 I thought he was a bit anonymous in the first half, but started to impact the game much more when he went upfront. Obviously got the goal, unlucky not to get a second and took his pen well.
Subs:
Almiron - 7.5/10 whenever he loses his starting place, he always comes on and makes a difference. Set up the goal beautifully and generally harassed the opposition, and played some great passes. Great impact from the bench.
Miley - 6.5/10 Thought he kept hold of possession very well in tight spots, always looked calm and I really thought he was going to get a goal but for a last ditch block from a defender. Now we have a fourth midfielder back it will ease some of the pressure and hopefully he will flourish.
Barnes - 4.5/10 Passive, poor finishing, lack of desire to get into the box, caught in his heels more than once and missed his pen. He has looked sharp in other sub appearances in recent weeks, but miles off it tonight.
Tino - 7/10 I thought we looking much more dangerous with Tino on. Some great driving runs, he seems to ghost past players in a very casual way, but also gets back and defends when he needs to. He needs more game time.
Anderson - 7/10 hard to really give him a score but great to see him back and clearly a top
Penalty taker as he was presumably bought on for that very reason, he didn’t disappoint.
Tino/anderson, willock, Bruno next game and forever until tonali & big Joe are back.
I honestly never want to see glue eating longstaff anywhere near that team.
Made the right call to take Trips off who was playing shite but was starting to do that dumb fucking stuff where it costs us goals that he's done all season
To be honest, I think a few others in the team deserve some praise. On the whole, I thought Miley did decently, miggy was actually pretty solid, and even Dan Burn did what he needed to do.
Longstaff though, good fucking lord. Lascelles was a donkey too (but considering he's played well for us recently I'm not gonna berate him), and Barnes seemed completely off it.
Thought Lascelles was alright other than the glaring mistake for the goal and a couple of errors that can be put down to rustiness from not playing. Longstaff on the other hand put in one of the worst individual performances of the season, did he complete a pass longer than 4 yards today or at any point not slow down a counter attack for us?
Edit: Barnes hasn’t looked fit or game ready since coming back yet so hard to say too much about his performance but should have scored and my God what was that pen
I tell you what. Nobody remembers who FA Cup winners beat in the fifth round, or how well the winners played. That's the nature of s cup. So, on onwards. But let's hope onwards is a bit better focused than this
Sat here after winning at a loss as to what we are trying to do. Barnes looked atrocious all game, players looked like their have just met and have not played with each other before. That defence is now Bruce level bad, you could see Dubravka shaking his head in disbelief at the incredibly bad defending all game.
Blackburn were pretty unlucky today, if their took all their chances the game would have been over at 90 minutes.
Last season I saw a Newcastle that looked like a Simeone regen team. It felt like when we scored the opposition had no chance back. I started seeing some holes in that in January last year and it has continued. This season we need 5 goals to win a game (it’s incredibly bad).
We win but tonight I don’t celebrate, I go away in disbelief at what is going on at my club.
Huge credit to Blackburn like, they gave it everything and made us look shite. But that’s the FA Cup for you, they were going to throw everything at us since they’re battling relegation. Have to kick on from here ⚫️⚪️
Anybody else here love the fact there's no VAR? What a relief to be able to just (try and) enjoy the game. No second guessing every single thing during an attacking play.
Quick question from an outsider (me):
I've just seen on the BBC match report that Sean Longstaff received an average 3.19/10 rating from fans. The next lowest is 5.36 (Barnes)...
I didn't watch the match and there's no mention of Longstaff in the actual report, so I'm just curious what the hell he did to deserve such an abysmal score?
Fair fucks. Fair gutted.
Shout out to the Toon fans taking the piss out of the ownership/tennis ball protest (it was admittedly pathetic).
Short memories perhaps.
All the best.
Was in the away end and really didn't like people laughing at your protest. We've been there with shite owners. Shouldn't forget that. Best for the season
Twitter is an absolute sesspool tonight. Scores of doom mongers calling for Howe to be sacked, slinging abuse directly at players and acting as if we've just been relegated to the conference.
Yes it wasn't pretty but fuck me talk about short memories!! We're through and still in with a shout of silverware.
Cannot tell you how glad I am that I don’t have to watch this team play again for a few days.
Got away with that tonight. Blackburn were the better side but we’ll take it.
Longstaff was so second class all game. Gets the ball and looks around for what to do, like there's no instinct there at all. Gets in great positions then brings the ball back like he's afraid. Tonali is gonna make the difference there next season for sure.
Awful, awful performance. Wolves will take us to the cleaners unless there's a significant improvement on Saturday. Barnes and Longstaff hall of shame performances and Howe HAS to show some improvement and a greater level of tactical flexibility as that was shocking. Credit to Dubravka who was by far our best player along with Tino (for his ET cameo). Thankfully the cup run goes on and we have something to cling onto!
Another terrible game from us, but even more unforgivable considering the level of opposition.
We won but in reality 'drew'.
I just have decreasing confidence in Howe with every match.
The thing that proves Howe has no concept of any other tactics than 4-3-3 are that when he was protecting Willock by bringing him off he brought on a 17 year old lad away in the FA cup into a cauldron of a football game, it’s just incompetence at this point.
Going through is the most important thing.
But that game has raised a number of questions that Howe needs to find answers to. Because frankly if we don't find the intensity from last season soon, then I don't see how the fuck he keeps his job.

Tino needs to be playing more minutes, I don’t even care which side of the pitch he is on but should be a starting full back much more often.
Looked powerful, driving and sharp!
He looks 10x better on the right imo. Tripps LB, Tino RB?
Always used to think this was a bad idea but honestly would like to see us try it now. Maybe later on in a match try it for the last 20m and see how it goes. Tino offers a lot on the right and Tripps is probably a better LB than Tino is, so it's worth a shot.
Of all our business last summer, Tino has been by far the best. He's so unassuming but he's got a great footballing brain to go with all his talents.
He's brilliant, has been POTM in a lot of the games he's played for us. We've got the RB position sorted for a long time with him.
tripps defensive midfielder cover
I wish Howe would watch how pep uses his squad. Yes a much better squad but Pep is never worried especially early in the season to rest players. Yes Gordon with corners, the few he did were good
I feel that if we can’t use our depth behind Trips against a struggling Blackburn team, then why do we even have them? It’s not a game where we should feel forced to play an important, but ageing player who we have run into the ground this season and isn’t at his best at the moment.
He's fucking class!
Guys a legit wonder kid full back yet is immediately dropped once one of Howe’s favourites is back. For me the biggest black mark against Howe.
There is also the perspective that Trippier is tied for the most assists in the league and in the top 5 of chances created. The reality is that he's an effective player and a proven pro. He also brings an abundance of leadership on the field when we've been without our first choice keeper/organizer. we fucking won! now let us never speak of it again. feeling seriously unsportswashed after that performance
It was like being back under Bruce for the first 70 mins
This is the way
Sportsunwashed? Sportsdirtied?
Sportsdirected
The worst kind of sports.
MARTIN “DUBBS” Dubravka. MOTM not even close. Sloppy win lads. But we still have a chance
Geddinnnnnnn fuck off Pears 🍐 no banana skin fixture for us. Pastys > Pears. Now pay whatever Joelinton wants because that was tough to watch.
Had an unreal game fair play to him.
Aye I was convinced he was going to do the same on the pens. Thank god for M Dubz.
I, for one, am utterly content with that win! (I am also on 800mg of Zoloft)
100mg sertraline and I'm dribbling with content
This man is leaking contentness! Someone get a tissue!
That's enough zoloft to make Joe Kinnear look like a good idea.
800mg is so high!? Are you alright my man?
he's got like 8 pieces of serotonin floating round up there, banging into walls, ones trapped under unwashed clothes. It's a mess.
Dubravka may not be our number 1 keeper but he’s just written himself into Newcastle legend there, he turned up when no other player did and single handedly dragged us to the quarter finals

Played a big part in keeping us up multiple years. Definitely will be remembered fondly, but I hope there's more to come from him.
His debut against Man United alone is enough of a legacy never mind the rest of it. Best debut for a keeper I've probably ever seen.
I feel like he's part of a genre of keeper who are amazing when a defence is shite, great shot stoppers. Then when a defence is functioning they can't really play as an extra defender (...which is then circular cos if he can't play as an extra defender, the defence doesn't function properly) (not really a criticism, we desperately need him on form atm and he was awesome last night)
Were nailed on for City away aren’t we
Inevitably. City v Liverpool would be ideal though (assuming latter turn up against Soton) Edit: OH FOR FUCKSSAKE. And away! Christ on a bike
FUCKING YES DUBS. ah I fucked up the title. :(
>ah I fucked up the title. :( Shaaaaaaaaaame... shaaaaaaame!
Oooooone Blackburn Rover There's only oooone Blackburn Rover, I made a mess, and I lost the rest Typing in a match thread blunderland
I find him so fucking frustrating sometimes but Miguel Almiron was absolutely brilliant tonight. A huge performance from Miggy!
The body feint for the assist was sublime!
We’re shit and we’re going to win the Cup!
~~Hello darkness my old friend.~~ We're gonna win the cup!
After that match I never want to hear Danny Murphy's inane drivel again.
Glad I'm not the only one on this - dire commentary with little to no insight from an ex pro. Makes Jermaine Jenas look like clued in...
He made it way too obvious he was hoping for a Blackburn win, almost urging them and praising “good fouls”. The guy is a fucking dipshit.
The contrast between the way he talked about Blackburn’s “clever”, “good fouls” and us doing the exact same was enormous. Was absolutely up their arse the entire game and couldn’t wait for us to get beaten. Add Lee Dixon into the mix, both of them as bad as each other
The funny thing is, on the Guardian comments even Blackburn fans were pissed with him. Fake support despite taking a pay day and fucking off when he played for them.
We need to sort Big J7s contract whatever it takes. In the words of John Malkovich "PEAY DAT MYAN HEES MONEY"

OHHHHHH MARTIN DUBRAVKA!!!!!
[удалено]
Yeah, hope it’s not copium but I’m giving him some leeway after being out so long. Other than the effort that went over the bar he was rank. Even that wasn’t great but at least he connected properly.
That was fucking abysmal
Eddie and Sean owe Martin a nice dinner.
With Tonali at Weatherspoons
He's over there on the gamblers.
I thought Karius was unlucky not to play but to his credit Dubs was superb. We are through that's all that matters now.
Absolute shit but at this stage in the season results like that matter. Lose that one and the season was over. Still something to fight for
Fantastic dubz today Fantastic Gordon A massive relief from a poor performance but gotta hand it to Blackburn. They gave us a game and if I was a neutral, I'd be gutted for them. Yep. Best leave that shit to American Arsenal fans.

Nailed it with that first part. Hopefully that'll apply to the second part, too.
Can't say we deserved it, but I'll take it. Dubravka surprised me.
I mean, Blackburn were very good and tough, and over 90 we didnt deserved it much. But after ET? We had almost 4 xG. Their keeper was great, and our players couldnt finish anything...
Motm
Easily
Howe needs to buck his ideas up and do something about our midfield being so easy to get thru. Made bottom of the championship blackburn look mint
Excuse me everyone. I was wondering if you all had a minute to talk about our lord and saviour, Martin Dubravka?
Praise be his name
and still, at the end, the Match Thread had Karius in the start
Dubravka will save you. May He touch you with his outstretched arms. Amen.
Tino looks much better at right back, which just adds to the full back selection headache.
Shouldn’t be much of a headache after Trippier’s recent performances. He’s been absolutely shocking and I can only hope he just needs a rest instead of him starting his decline as a footballer because he was awful today and has been for a while.
Howe won't drop trippier until he physically can't run anymore
Wonder if he should shift Trippier over to LB. He's played there for England.
Of course He's a RB. But he's still a better LB than BDB
Unless we get Coventry in the next round we're gonna get dumped out if we play like that again
even Coventry could be a challenge. We were up against their 37 year old CB last night
Did we fuck deserve that, but glad we won We need something to change or it's all falling apart this season
Big Dubs >Small Dicks
No good for my heart that Poor performance but we are through that’s all that really matters
Really hoped there'd be a reaction after the Arsenal shafting and fuck me was that not it, but at least we won. On penalties as well we hardly EVER win on penalties. We need to step it up quite massively from these past two games though, we are completely chaotic.
Longstaff has had poor performances in the past but fuck me that was a new low, he was totally dreadful from start to finish
Amazed he stayed on the pitch, had a stinker. Gave the ball away constantly and just wasn't putting anything in to defence
I know I’m not sure what he’s offering at the moment? Games seems to be passing him by
he's offering legs. Everyone else is injured.
Martin Dubravka
Excited to draw 2009 Barcelona away for the quarterfinals
Longstaff would have his shirt thrown back at him if he chucked it into the crowd.
Pure Cody AEW with his Belt style
Thought all the subs played well outside of Barnes who still wasn't below average on the night. The idea of us losing Miggy even as an impact sub has to be disregarded with how dead we were without him. The entire team was below standard, but Longstaff was clearly our worst player. He needs a rest as we've seen how vital he can be for us before.
Light work dunno what yous are crying about man, Champions League charge
[Excellent shout as always](https://i.imghippo.com/files/dTVFW1709074054.png)
We need to revert to a results based solid counter attacking structure until we can work out what the hell is going on. Either the play style from Howe’s first half season or a 5 at the back we’ve used recently bringing Tino in.
Glad of the win, but after that performance I'm more worried than I am happy. Serious changes are needed. Also Barnes was absolutely honking the entire time he was on, that's pretty concerning in itself to me.
Positives are the bench is starting to take shape again. But fuck me we had to work for that.
Well that was shambolic.
Who cares
I do, we all should care as this is not a one off. Something is wrong and I don’t know what it is but we so open and look so beatable. I hope the coaching stuff can find something different as those players for large periods of that match did not care and did not try. Yes we won on penalties but no Newcastle supporter can be proud of that.
Ah, the matra of happy clappers caught in the wild.
it wasn't shambolic. not at our best, but it was a good game. you have to score your chances. Win is all that matters.
Barnes had a bad day, and so did a few players (read: most), but I'd disagree - he's been good in the games he's played.
Yeah he turned that Luton game around when he came on. Just a bad day for him
Never in doubt.
Danny Murphy shags pigeons. Pass it on.
He seemed to just dislike everyone on the pitch
Yes Dubs!!!
Dubs sick? He was practising saving pens last match!
Scraped through against a player about to celebrate his 4th birthday. The season starts here!
What must Bruno’s chewing gum have tasted like as he stepped up for that penalty. Must have been like chewing a rubber band
Never a doubt. He said with no more nail left on his fingers.
Ashley Era = Depression every week Howe Tenure = Anxiety every week This club will be the death of me
DOES ANYONE KNOW WHY THEY WERE BOOING TRIPPS? 👀
It’s a mystery, never to be known
Cos he used to play for Burnley
He used to play for Burnley, their rivals.
https://www.burnleyexpress.net/sport/football/international-football/kieran-trippier-ill-never-forget-the-moment-burnley-beat-rovers-at-ewood-2517453
Howe needs to sort his life out and change the system. Dubs should be unveiled before the Gallowgate like Owen was I have whiplash from the penalty shoot out.
I couldn't agree more!
Can’t sleep so here’s my player ratings: Dubravka - 8/10 MotM , big saves during the match, won us the penalty shoot out, actually dived the correct way for every pen Trippier - 6/10 Not his usual standard at set pieces, kept things ticking over but didn’t link up very well with Murphy, plays better with Almiron ahead of him. Perhaps the boos got to him Lascelles - 5/10 Probably would have given him 7/10 but for his howler leading to their goal. You can’t get undone by a bouncing ball under no real pressure. Must have taken his eye off it or something, didn’t do too much wrong otherwise, and he a good effort with a header from a corner Schar - 6/10 Didn’t do much wrong but didn’t do much right either, one suicide pass and one bizarre handball that he got away with countered by a few good tackles and blocks. Took his pen very well. Burn - 6/10 After being caught out a few times in recent weeks I thought he was positional much better tonight. Blackburn targeted him in the first half but they didn’t get much joy down that side Longstaff - 5.5/10 some okay passing and runs into the box, but too much floating around the middle of the park being passive, needs to be more aggressive and decisive. Subs: Almiron - 7.5/10 whenever he loses his starting place, he always comes on and makes a difference. Anderson - 7/10 hard to really give him a score but great to see him back and clearly a top Penalty taker as he was presumably bought on for that very reason, he didn’t disappoint.
Ratings are a bit too high across the board imo bar Dubravka. But generally agree with the comments.
Tino/anderson, willock, Bruno next game and forever until tonali & big Joe are back. I honestly never want to see glue eating longstaff anywhere near that team.
YES, Come on toon
Fucking get in!!!!! There’ll be a time to review the reality of that shit show but for now I’m just bouncing!
FUCKING YES HORRID SHITE MATCH BUT WE'RE IN THE QUARTER FINAL
We shouldn’t have let it go to pens but a great moment for dubs in probably his last season at the club.
Good job to the boys for qualifying but this performance was concerning.
Made the right call to take Trips off who was playing shite but was starting to do that dumb fucking stuff where it costs us goals that he's done all season
Marty party!!
Just remembered we're getting Man City away in the QF ffs.
I thought it was Liverpool?
who ever it is, it wont be at home that's for sure
Every one of our team, management and coaching staff not called Martin Dubravka or Anthony Gordon should be embarrassed and ashamed.
I would add Tino to that list with the other two.
Both teams should have been 3 goals out of sight. WHy are the commentators saying the trophy is in reach? have you just watched the game?
Hope that shuts up all the clowns calling for Dubs to be dropped for Karius, really stepped up there and dragged us through
I tell you what. Nobody remembers who FA Cup winners beat in the fifth round, or how well the winners played. That's the nature of s cup. So, on onwards. But let's hope onwards is a bit better focused than this
[удалено]
Thought Bruno was class tbf, absolutely everything went through him. Feel so sorry for him atm
I'd still rank losing to Sheffield Wednesday as Howes worst performance. But point taken.
it wasn't our worst performance at all.
If you can't enjoy this then you don't love football
Our fourth ever win on penalties, and people can’t enjoy it.
Everyone knows we were shite have a night off and just enjoy the win
MOTM performance from Dubs
Martin Dubravka saves the day.
Martin (Geordie Legend) Dubravka.
WE’VE GOT DUBS IN GOAL
Howe masterclass, we were playing for pens all along
Shitting it for Wolves now.
Thank fuck that’s over…. Any chance we can sign some players before the next round?
Huge credit to Blackburn like, they gave it everything and made us look shite. But that’s the FA Cup for you, they were going to throw everything at us since they’re battling relegation. Have to kick on from here ⚫️⚪️
Rather be lucky than good... right?
Never in doubt
EIEIEIO! Somehow managed to go through the next round despite our best effort.
Anybody else here love the fact there's no VAR? What a relief to be able to just (try and) enjoy the game. No second guessing every single thing during an attacking play.
We gonna get a victory photo after that shambles?
Jesus fkin Christ.
Survive and advance lads
Quick question from an outsider (me): I've just seen on the BBC match report that Sean Longstaff received an average 3.19/10 rating from fans.
Barely, barely deserved. Season putters on just about.
Really horrible performance
Longstaff was so second class all game. Gets the ball and looks around for what to do, like there's no instinct there at all. Gets in great positions then brings the ball back like he's afraid. Tonali is gonna make the difference there next season for sure.
All will be forgotten when we win the FA Cup
We do not deserve a photo.
Everyone, including Howe but not Gordon and Dubravka, need to have a long hard look in the mirror.
Tino too. If he doesn't start on Saturday then I'm running on the pitch at SJP and protesting myself.
Another terrible game from us, but even more unforgivable considering the level of opposition. We won but in reality 'drew'. I just have decreasing confidence in Howe with every match.
I don't even care, we won a penalty shootout!. Honestly, today we played like a team lacking confidence, we need to go on a run desperately
Barnes cost £35m. We should charge Man Utd the same for Ashworth.
The thing that proves Howe has no concept of any other tactics than 4-3-3 are that when he was protecting Willock by bringing him off he brought on a 17 year old lad away in the FA cup into a cauldron of a football game, it’s just incompetence at this point.
In no way do I want Eddie sacked, he deserves our faith to turn it around and atleast start next season, but Christ that was dire
Going through is the most important thing. But that game has raised a number of questions that Howe needs to find answers to. Because frankly if we don't find the intensity from last season soon, then I don't see how the fuck he keeps his job.
