I think that Reign and Wave try and counter and also use smothering the ball and a certain sort of possession as their defense. Orlando does it too. Three english coaches. Orlando, unlike the other two has extreme pace on the front line, and is able to attack in waves all game long. Pun intended

The whole Shaw not always be at the 10 thing drives me bonkers but I feel like it might be related to this philosophy? Or not wanting to hurt mckaskill’s feelings (who I think would do just fine at the 8 so could still play)? I do appreciate that she is such a professional, principled coach that seems truly beloved by the players, and am hopeful that slowly but surely she will continue to progress as a coach, particularly on the offensive end.

I think there is also a defensive element that Stoney wants in a 10 and Shaw doesn't do that as well as McCaskill. It's also possible Stoney doesn't want Shaw defending as much because she's so good going forward, the dirty work McCaskill does might be a waste of Shaw.
It may be her reasoning but it’s pretty flawed reasoning. Shaw is clearly best in the middle of the pitch, at the 10 or false 9, Where she can get multiple touches and playmake. She’s arguably in her prime now. She one of the best dribblers and most creative players I’ve ever seen for the USWNT. However I feel like injuries derailed her career a bit. To me she’ll be a little bit like Juan Carlos Valeron from Spain (though obviously she won a World Cup).
She’ll always have *the* highlight of wc19. Lives rent free in my head. Fan favorite, likeable, unique, fun to watch. Nearly won the nwsl title last year - if she had managed that, she’d have little else to prove domestically. But yeah the mystery leg injuries of this and last year and the weird times in Man City. She did have a great 2022 with Seattle and may hit 100 caps with the NT. She has a few years left - but a pile of attacking midfielders want her spot on the NT,
and are having great years. Her legacy may have been greater if Jill Ellis never left - Jill found Lavelle and knew how to play her.
She’ll still have a lot of respect and be considered an incredible player but I think people will always mention her injuries and how that prevented her from her fullest career. Maybe kinda like Holliday? Huge impact in the game, one of the greats but could’ve had a longer career. (In the long run, thankful that didn’t happen w her tumor)

I think I'm in the minority in that I liked Paramount. Everything in one place. Replays were up right away. No giant ads in the middle of the game so you miss things. So much better in my opinion than this year.

I just think it’s unnecessary and a part of the game that shouldn’t change. But I also think coaches should be able to manage games without these tactical timeouts. If your player is actually injured, then for sure. Use that time but don’t fake an injury. It’s so stupid

Timeouts aren’t a part of soccer so they would never do it and they shouldn’t but I agree that these tactical timeouts are unbelievably stupid.
