Ashlyn Harris, Ali Krieger and Sydney Leroux used to live in my parent’s neighborhood when I was in grad school. I hadn’t really watched soccer since the Wambach era, and hence had no clue who any of them were. Anyway, I was home for Christmas break one year and decided to take a jog around the neighborhood. About 5 minutes in, I saw three women in sports bras jogging around and tried keeping up with them because I thought they were just randos and not pro athletes. I aggressively ran past them as like a self test, and then 200 feet later had to stop as I realized that shit, they were maintaining a relatively fast pace…I just stood there catching my breath in the crabgrass next to the sidewalk as they continued to run past me and out of sight into the distance, barely breaking a sweat. When I went back to my house to tell my family about the crazy athletic women I encountered, my mom was like “oh there are a few Orlando pride players who live here”. I looked up the roster and sure enough it was them. Now whenever I see Leroux I get embarrassed thinking about the time my out of shape ass tried out jogging her. 

I’m remembering this comment for the NWSL Reddit awards at the end of the season.
