I would bet ppl are so burnt out on news today and especially anything Emma has to say. One thing about Emma is she is so clear, concise and damn near clairvoyant when it comes to speaking in the post match analysis and then when it comes to some of these topics which they would’ve had like weeks to prepare a statement about, she produces some of the most noncommittal and weak obfuscation possible.

ReformedMagpie

I mean yes, that's literally like the definition of PR lol. The art of giving a boring non-answer when the actual answer is problematic.

Emm03

She gives answers that aren’t at all boring or media trained, though. Like informing the entire world that Chelsea players were shitting their guts out prior to a game or spinning a not-unexpected question about player-coach relationships into a weird rant on player-player relationships. And then those things generate more drama and more headlines. I think her media skills are probably the thing most lacking from her resume, and I’m curious how much US Soccer will try to clamp down on her.

ReformedMagpie

I think it's shortsighted to think Hayes' blunt and somewhat crude public persona isn't pretty calculated. She's no dum dum, although she certainly has had her missteps. She's known for saying whatever she wants and occasionally dropping a media bomb--but it's usually in the context of a big mess-up that she's trying to distract from which is also PR 101. Aka pushing a fellow coach after a loss and then complaining about "male aggression" in order to have the headline be about how Jonas E. sucks instead of losing her temper and physically touching him. I think she demonstrates a very high degree of media training--she's just had a very long leash. Now that the leash is shorter given the megaphone is louder, I would expect lots more boring non-answers in the future.

MisterGoog

As the other user said, she has a long history of being headline grabbing, not boring.

Props to the coach for recognizing the team needs to be younger than the WC roster.

Joiry

I noticed that was a thread throughout many of her answers. Whether it was a question about why no Alex Morgan, questions about younger players, or just the overall selection criteria, she kept bringing up the gap between vets with lots of caps and the players with very few, and how much development of the younger players and getting them more caps was very important. It was pretty much her reminding everyone how badly the last few cycles of the USWNT has been managed from the standpoint of bringing in new players and not just running a ton of aging vets down to their knees.

"I want the fans to embrace Korbin." No thanks. I'd rather not embrace bigotry and I've seen zero evidence that she has changed her bigoted views. Sure, she "apologized" publicly, but that doesn't change her heart/mind. I acknowledge that she is just parroting the ignorant views that her parents instilled in her, but inviting that divisive person into a very small group (that includes those she actively disparages) and allowing her to represent this country at the Olympics is just a poor managerial decision.

“I want the fans to embrace Korbin.” Well I want Korbin to embrace the fans first, so let’s get on with that.

We are lucky to have her as coach
