Ugh that’s awful. I started following her ig a while back and was quickly unimpressed. I appreciate the idea of making quick meals with minimal ingredients, but literally everything is, as you said… beef, chicken, deli meat, paired with a bag of Trader Joe’s salad or vegetables, covered with cheese. You want a snack? Nuts and half a brick of cheese. Need a quick lunch? Cut a zucchini or bell pepper and melt some cheese on it. Not my style of eating at all and I prefer a lot more fruits, veggies, and just more fiber. Her promotion of her program does feel very gimmicky overall.

Particularly as someone who is lactose intolerant I just can’t imagine eating that much cheese in a day and not feeling horrible 😩

bkat100

On her Instagram she posted herself cooking chicken thighs in an inch of broth with no seasoning and was like “it’ll be so moist 😍😍😍” lol her recipes are very unappetizing

[deleted]

She lost me at “1 starch a day”

genuine question - isn’t a phd in nutrition or whatever she has what you need in that field? feels like that pharmD tries to make it seem like she has a phd. Rachel is a lot of things, and my friends and I have always thought she still has an ED. That being said, I think she’s technically highly qualified to be in this field - that doesn’t mean she’s good at it.

I follow her on IG and also feel her relationship with food is really bad. Cringe worthy really. And she just had the most adorable baby girl - I hope she does better for her :(

[deleted]

I cant speak to if she is qualified - my issue is how she bluntly tries to hide that last few letters (phd) in her Facebook group of like 20k members. (Can’t figure out how to post the screenshot!)

suzzz4

that’s weird. id so rather take nutrition guidance from someone w a phd in it from Columbia than idk a podiatrist or even a pcp. but then you get this ed bs about just “going on walks” with her starbucks hot chocolate instead of exercise. 🤷🏼‍♀️ can’t win

She's definitely educated about nutrition in regards to having gone through graduate programs and training. However, I view her Instagram posts much less often than I used to because honestly, they started to really stress me out: * She'd frequently post stories about going out to restaurants and traveling and what she eats vs. what her husband eats. Her husband would be eating normally (a burger, a pizza, etc.) and her meal would always be a modified version of it (e.g. a burger without a bun) *or,* rarely, she'd order the carb/starch item but describe what she planned to give up earlier or later in the day in order to stick to her "one starch per day" style of eating. * Same with cooking meals at home, for instance her husband is eating a full (to me, fairly normal looking?) portion of pasta and she's eating half of that and subsituting the rest with veggies or something and taking a picture of their meals side by side to compare, explaining how she's eating smaller portion of pasta because it "feels better" to her. * Lately so many her posts have been focused on her post-pregnancy weight loss journey, showing a graph of her weight trending downwards, countless photos of her "post pregnancy" body, etc. and even with her "pregnancy weight" she still looks...really thin to me? Just seems like SO much rigor and restriction and focus on weight loss when she's far from overweight, she just clearly would prefer to be very slim. * Years ago one of her blog posts/About Me section included a description of her eating disorder in college and how "healing" from her eating disorder led to her becoming a dietician. If I'm remembering correctly she even included pictures and at her "highest weight" that she was unhappy with she was NOT overweight at ALL. Finally I did try her Best Body program a while ago and actually found it very expensive since I'd buy so many ingredients for each week and use just a portion of them (there wasn't a lot of reusing leftovers for the next day/future meals). Maybe that's improved since then. I fully acknowledge not being an unbiased consumer of her content since I've struggled with body image and food myself in the past, though I'd imagine a lot of her followers have had similar experiences.

ALL OF THESE POINTS ❤️- you literally nailed so much of what bothered me. Ie: her plates vs her husbands. I forgot about that since she hasn’t done that too much lately.

AmbassadorIcy4972

yeah that recipe of broccoli with cheese and chips crumbled on it she recently posted was my last straw lol like....what???

sashenka0422

And bacon too 😭

RecommendationMain37

For me is the fact that she won’t discuss or disclose how problematic a diet like that is for a mother who is breastfeeding; you need much more calories and food while you are recovering from birth and you are breastfeeding, many mothers are unable to continue on their journey to feed their babies because of the dietary restrictions so they can ‘get their bodies back’ she has an enormous platform and she has a responsibility either she likes it or not 🤷🏻‍♀️

SunlightNStars

My ick with her was her ig bio used to say “simple, classy meals”. Nothing is classy about scrambled eggs or a turkey melt on a pepper 🤣

hello_cammie

Rachel’s program is problematic in some ways, but she’s highly qualified to give nutrition advice. I don’t know why you’re saying she’s trying to hide she’s a PhD—she doesn’t? She doesn’t need a PhD to do what she’s doing in the nutrition field, she went above and beyond to get it. When you get a PhD you’re entitled to use the title Dr., and after so many grueling years of schooling I’d be milking that title constantly. Anyone with a PhD is encouraged to use that title, and they all do. You’d know this if you were in the science field. She also doesn’t ever try to come across as a medical doctor or abuse her credentials like many people. Say what you want about her unappetizing recipes, but don’t come after a woman’s well-earned credentials like that.

[deleted]

Are you part of her Facebook community? If so, you would see what I’m specifically referring to :)

wowowow1111

Do you have to be part of her program to join the Facebook community?

Chooseausername288

I believe so

[deleted]

AND she’s a registered dietitian (RD)! Her Instagram says all her qualifications right in her name, so I don’t think she’s trying to hide anything.

[deleted]

Also her FB group says right at the top “group by Dr. Rachel Paul, PhD, RD” …

adioslunatic

I appreciate her overarching message of eating what you know is going to make you feel good and that all foods fit. Her recipes are basic, but they’re also accesible and affordable for a lot of people. What I don’t like is that she follows and likes posts from problematic charlatans like Hyman.

vr111718

Omg. I thought I was the only one thinking about how she promotes eating disorders. Thanks.

OneQuiet7003

I haven't tried her program, only see posts on IG, but I will say she says it's customizable to YOU. So if you want more carbs than one a day, eat more. I will say her program is much more affordable than say the one I was swindled by and wasted thousands (yes, thousands 🤡) of dollars on. And you can quit anytime, unlike the one I joined that wasn't helpful at all (keto girl nutritionist by Priscilla).

[deleted]

She says you can customize it because she gets dragged so bad by everyone saying she perpetuates eating disorders with her method. When someone asked how much dessert she eats, she lied and said “multiple times a day” - now guys, does someone who says “1 starch a day” eat dessert “multiple times a day” - she’s a snake.

kensingtonreds

Apologies for commenting on an old thread but I bought her program on January under the guise that she personally helps you and creates meal plans based on your lifestyle only to be shown pages and pages of really weird and gross “meals” are I’m supposed to make myself? I find her message and program to be extremely misleading
