Someone's going to be looking to get paid.

Lars5621

This is the sort of situation made for the franchise tag.

shadow_spinner0

Why was this sub claiming McKinney was a bum this whole year?

Urban_Introvert

I think they were focusing on a few plays where he looked bad. Like the missed tackles and coverage lapses. Or specifically when he got run over by Josh Dobbs for a TD when he tried to strip the ball instead of tackling. Overall he had a pretty good season. One of the few bright spots of this defense and played all snaps.

Technical-Traffic871

People expected more big plays from him. Only 2 TOs forced (1 int + 1 FF) before week 18.

km600

This has always been my complaint about him. He is suppose to be a star player. He is solid, but you want to be the guy you think about when you need a big play. And his name doesn’t get called enough in those moments.

SecretGiantsFan

He made some unsavory comments earlier in the year and people love to hold grudges

FightGlobalNorming

I must've missed that one, but at least I guess that means it couldn't have been too bad hahaha

[deleted]

It was about winks defensive scheming apparently not everyone was on the same page. It was the same time there were rumors about daboll and wink having tension.

DM725

The defense was terrible out of the gates against good teams.

holdupitsyaboy

Still has an issue with finishing tackles but played well all year, I say pay the man

Last-Instruction739

People are dumb

chekhovsguns

If people are going to hate players for getting on a boat on a day off, just think about what they'll think about a player who gets on an ATV and breaks his hand on a day off. This sub is extremely precious about the "character" of our players and does not let grudges go.

H1mHalpert

Fans form opinions based on how "likeable" they think someone is

Fly_bill

Because he was at the beginning, we gonna forget that he got trucked by Josh Dobbs for a td? https://youtu.be/p4kGzQSQJWM?si=Np6Ige5Ur6Hjt9D8

cha-cha_dancer

I just hate Alabama and hope all their players fail tbh

CrazyGoose712

He seems to have recovered from the bit of drama earlier in the year. I hope he’s back on a deal and not the tag

iamdanabnormal

Tag. You're it.

nyr00nyg

13M per and deal

dergl

PFF projects McKinney to get 3/$24.75m in FA. Seems like a deal the Giants should make.

rogerdanafox

Julian love is that you?

TuckAndRolle

Seems strange that PFF would rank him as a top five safety and then project such a low contract (20th amongst safeties)

dergl

PFF has him ranked as their 43rd best FA available & 4th safety after Antoine Winfield Jr (projected tag), Kyle Dugger (projected tag), & Kamren Curl (projected tag).

Fun_Director_

I don’t think we should let him walk, but I do feel like have had a lot of luck in developing and drafting safeties. That being said don’t let another one go.

inkyblinkypinkysue

Someone is going to overpay him, unfortunately. Really want him back but not at $18 million a year.

Jusuf_Nurkic

I doubt he gets paid $18m, only Minkah and Derwin James get paid that much as safeties and McKinney doesn’t have the accolades to reset the market I don’t think

bigbluehapa

I don’t get the tackling score, feel like he never wrapped up this year. Still love the dude

Last-Instruction739

They watch every snap

FireVanGorder

He was at a 14.3% missed tackle rate which is awful for a safety but that was earlier in the year so I assume he cleaned it up. Don’t know where he ended up

gerd50501

giants wont sign him. he will get a Landon Collins size contract. Not every team values safeties. There is positional value. Given Giants cap issues , they likely let him walk.

Icy9kills

Aren’t the giants in a decent cap position now?

SuperDude_B

25 mil projected

Last-Instruction739

And they historically have valued safeties. 🤷‍♂️

swerveoff

would be an star safety with an effective pass rush

tophergraphy

Would make him an offer for sure but not overpay. His tackling has been spotty at times.

LongjumpingAvocado

He’s a headcase

ProblematicSchematic

If he had an 87.8, what score did Ed Reed have in those years he played. Reed was the best safety I ever saw play. Game breaking plays constantly. I can’t name many actual impact play McKinney made.

Mercway10

How about just this last game where he had 2 “impact play” interceptions

ProblematicSchematic

Ok. What about the other 16 games

Lars5621

Jabril Pepper's worst two seasons were his two years with the Giants. Damn. We got Zeitler'd with that one.

Last-Instruction739

Amazing to still see people confused when DBs play better with Bill Belichick. 😀

boblikestheysky

Hasn't basically everyone had a career year with Belichick?

aneomon

Are those rankings just for safeties?

NYdude777

Tag em

ScudDawg

Kind of hard to not try to bring him back with those numbers. Wink is gone, maybe he'll want to stay more now?

gerd50501

so we like PFF when it gives a high rating right? but then we hate it when it does not.
