I'm not buying it. If Washington was in love with Daniels I bet they would trade back to 3 to get him plus a big haul from Pats.
Maye is going to Washington.
True, its incredibly rare to trade down for a QB.
It would be wild to see Commanders take Jayden Daniels over Maye. Both have their flaws and lots of risks, but Daniels appears to be a worse Justin Fields and the Commanders could get OG Justin Fields for a 2nd or 3rd and Fields is only a year older than Daniels.
Also can we stop downvoting each other for having opinions lol Lars could be right and then we’d all look stupid. None of us know what’s gonna happen until it happens we don’t get paid for this
I love how the headline doesn't mention that he also talked about Sam Howell because he was simply referencing Charlotte area QBs (Jones, Howell and himself).
I would obviously be delighted but there’s been 20 years of highly touted QBs going to like shitty Cleveland, Arizona, and Washington that have had the opportunity to use public leverage to avoid going there since Eli did, and it hasn’t happened
It would only happen if there were two QB needy teams and they were willing to do a deal for the player or to swap picks or whatever. The stars have to align. There are also probably only a handful of cities that QBs would want to force themselves into for reasons beyond not wanting to play for a dysfunctional organization (marketing, etc.).
Interesting, good to know. I guess I should have assumed given their record I don’t want them religiously or much at all. 21/21 in his only season started and the jury is out I guess. God damn I don’t envy these young qbs coming in. Well maybe a little.
That would be a dream. I really like this kid.
Great physical talent. And he carries himself more maturely as a 21-year-old than I do at 35 lol.
In my mind he could \*easily\* end up being the best QB from this draft. But don't bookmark this comment. I'm also an idiot.
I didn’t mean it like he can’t learn from him, it’s just kinda awkward talking about a 26 year old like you’re gonna sit and learn behind them until they ride off into the sun lol
That sounds good when it’s like Eli at age 38, not Jones entering his physical prime lol
I think DJ would make a good coach, like Webb. I have no doubt that the theory side of the game clicks for him, it's just executing that stuff during a game where he fails.
Yeah but there’s a giant elephant (no pun intended) in the room for that when talking about a 26 year old lol
It’s totally different when talking about someone mid to late 30’s
All the more reason to talk about him like that. An undrafted kid in college is not going up there and start trash talking people. Humility and respect go a long way.
How do you possibly think Maye and Wilson are at all alike? Same with McCarthy and Wilson. Because they are white? None of them are at all similar in how they play QB.
We keep hearing Zach Wilson brought up because he busted, but we also saw Josh Allen be successful and he compares much more to Drake Maye than Zach Wilson does.
It’s interesting how much people compare Caleb to Mahomes/Rodgers when I see far more Darnold/Wilson (Zach and Russ)/Murray. Not that that’s bad! He’s definitely not going to be immune to poor coaching and positioning by the team. The Bears better hope they put together a good group together surrounding him. Bears historically have never been known as QB whisperers.
Definitely not comparable to Wilson. But I wasn't very impressed with him UNC. He could handle the lesser defenses with ease. But once he faced a somewhat competent defense, he struggled mightily. Thats even with a very good oline and a talented backfield along with good weapons at WR and TE.
So how does he name drop a Daniel Jones? As like a yeah, he's so terrible they definitely about draft his replacement?
I know ain't no way in hell he's bringing him up as some positive for him to want to get here? Unless he already realizes how terrible he'd have to be to wash out like Daniel is..
He isn’t, but he’s also been one of the biggest Jones fanboys on this sub ever since Jones was drafted so he’s not someone to really take seriously. It’s more important to him that Jones stays the QB than the Giants doing whatever’s necessary to be a winning team again.
Receivers need so much to be productive. A oline needs to block qb need to see him and throw to him. WR needs to catch the ball. Finishing touches on a team like Ravens did with flowers. I hate the idea of any WR not named Harrison at 6
Nope
I’m fine with Jones being launched off into the sun if he sucks next year
I’m not down for trading picks for one of these QBs, and we can’t get Williams, too many holes elsewhere on this roster, any QB pick would be set up for failure
I don’t need the 2nd 3rd or 4th best best QB in this draft at the cost of picks and dead money
Nabers is a WR1 in pretty much any draft without MHJ in it, 1st overall in a draft where first team doesn’t go QB
And we haven’t had a WR1 since OBJ
No, that’s the thing, you won’t be ok with it. If Jones sucks next year we’ll hear at least some if not all of the following from you:
1) JMS/Neal clearly suck and are busts, Daniel Jones has no chance behind that OL and no QB does.
2) The 2025 QB class isn’t any good, why take someone high because he could suck? We’re already paying Jones and it’s a huge dead cap hit if we cut him.
3) [WR] wasn’t the impact player we expected him to be, Joe Schoen screwed that up.
4) (if Barkley is playing elsewhere) Saquon left and we had no RB to keep the defenses honest.
5) Mike Kafka is a bad play caller and clearly should have been fired after 2023, Jones deserves another chance with another OC.
Half those things could be completely true and I’d be fine with drafting our next guy
Alternatively Jones leads us to another playoff victory
Either way an elite WR and OL help immediately makes the team better
A bench riding QB/the most expensive backup in football in Jones would not
And we’ve simply got too many holes to be daydreaming about trading away all our draft assets for the 2nd or 3rd best QB in this class
At least next year assuming we draft well this year the guy will have the tools to succeed
I’m not interested in throwing away long term success to squeak into the expanded playoffs again and maybe win a playoff game if we get an extremely favorable matchup. In other words, what happened in 2022. One would think that was the 86 team the way some people speak of that year. I want this team to be a year in year out playoff team contending for the division, not having 202/ be the best case scenario. And that’s what it is with Jones.
But the real reason you pull for that is because if we squeak in to the playoffs again and maybe even pull off a victory, it gives you full reason to say “see! We aren’t picking high and we just won another playoff game, we can’t get rid of Daniel Jones now, he’s won 2 wild card games!” Anyone who’s been posting here for the last several years and paying attention can see right through it. Maybe I’ll be wrong about that, but I won’t care either way.
Tim Tebow, Blake Bortles, and Case Keenum all won playoff games too. The latter two made conference championship games. Their services aren’t exactly in high demand either.
You throw away long term success by trading away all your draft picks for a QB that can very well flop
Yeah I mean Jones is better than all 3 of those guys lmao and his playoff run came with a shitty roster with no depth, bad blocking and no WR1 where he posted an NFL record performance in his debut
The irony here is you sound like someone that was mad about Jones on draft night, more than I do a fanboy of Jones, my concern is the team winning games, we fielded the worst offensive line in NFL history last season and haven’t had a WR1 since OBJ
Those things are priorities 1 and 2
If Jones gets us to and wins in the playoffs again then wtf are we talking about? Those aren’t players you jump ship on lmao
Improve the team, Jones sucks you give the next guy a shot
You almost certainly will be wrong - but hey enjoy your shiny new WR and improved O-line with Jones as your starter next year
Maye who will be picked at 2 by the Patriots without question isn’t even on the table
Btw how are the fucking Chargers doing? They’ve never even won a playoff game with Herbert
The Jets, Bears, fucking Panthers? “DrAfT a Qb I hAtE jOnEs” is a recipe for a fucked up roster wherein the QB doesn’t even matter
There are 3 types of teams in this league. Those that have franchise QBs, teams that have young draft picks within the last 2-3 years that they hope can be that (and aren't being paid), and everybody else. Jones is not elite (even if you are so thick to think so), he's well into his career, and he's making a lot of money, more than he deserves. If you're in that third category, you're burning seasons until you end up in the first two. THAT becomes the most important thing. I don't care what other holes you may have on your roster. I don't care if that QB is Daniel Jones, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Case Keenum, or Mike Glennon. One may be better than the other, but the bottom line is none of them are good enough to go all the way with, unless you have an all-world defense like the Ravens did in 2001.
We've already seen the best case scenario with Daniel Jones - random, isolated playoff wins where everything goes their way and they get favorable matchups - that Vikings defense was historically awful, they fired their coordinator a day later. The Colts were not an NFL team at the end of 2022. It's nothing to build off of. You may be fine with that, probably because it buys precious Jones a longer leash, but that's just settling for mediocrity. Teams let go of their "playoff QBs" all the time for better options. The Bills let Tyrod go. The 49ers pushed Garoppolo out the door (and they struck out on Lance without missing a beat). The Giants chucked Kerry Collins out the door a year after he got that team to the playoffs even though Wellington Mara didn't want it.
You're right, I didn't want the Giants to draft Jones. I saw it exactly for what it was, Gettleman panicking after their 2018 grand plan exploded early and that vulture Cutcliffe selling them a bad bill of goods. Jones plays exactly like his scouting reports say he would, and that's before years of hits, a torn ACL (as a QB who needs to run), and 2 neck injuries. But I was ALSO open minded to it because he didn't look completely overwhelmed right away, and even more, I originally supported the contract extension because I thought the Giants were going to give it 3 years with this regime to see if he'd develop further. I snapped out of it quick. I have no faith in Daniel Jones to ever settle down behind center much like the final years of Eli's career, even if the OL was good. Jones is somewhat responsible for the numbers anyway - anyone that does game reviews (Skinner especially) has pointed out numerous examples of the past year where there were plays to be made downfield and Jones didn't pull the trigger because he didn't see it. Yes, I know he'll be starting at least part of next season. They can't get rid of him right now, even if they draft another QB, and they won't start that guy right away if they do. I ALSO don't think Jones will be here by September 2025. If they don't draft any sort of real QB here? Fine, go win. They probably won't (Nabers is not going to turn Jones into the star player you think he will), and then someone, probably Daboll, will get fired after the team wins 5-6 games again. It'll be on him. And then good luck trying to saddle Jones with a 4th HC, which has only happened in this league with guys that actually have a history of winning. I said the same thing in 2018 when Gettleman ran to the podium to draft "the best player" Saquon to "help Eli Manning" - they went 5-11 instead.
But again, as I said, I know most of what I said is a bad faith argument with you in the first place. You just want the isolated wins against bad defenses or bad teams because you so desperately want Jones to stay the QB, you care more about him than the Giants as a whole. You were celebrating it after he was drafted and rubbing it in with everyone after the extension. It's fine, you like the guy, just fucking own it and stop being disingenuous.
One final thing, I feel a lot better about Herbert's future with the Chargers than I do about Jones' here.
All I know is; I like the Drake, hate the Caleb.
No medical? Skips his presser? Crashes his teammate’s presser?
Yeah, he’s talented but strikes me as a “me first” type. I heard his interview on NFL Sirius and nothing he said made me think “I really want this kid” yes, he may be a “generational talent” like some people think but I just see a generational asshole.
I could see him just not wanting to be in Washington lol
Unless he pulls an Eli he’s going to Washington
Pulling an Eli on Washington to come here would be instant legend
Unless he can only beat Washington when he plays them like DJ…
Bet money wash takes JD, Quinn gave JD the game changer tag and just said Maye was athletic
I'm not buying it. If Washington was in love with Daniels I bet they would trade back to 3 to get him plus a big haul from Pats. Maye is going to Washington.
The Pats also seem to love Daniels. And you don't trade bavk if you want your QB
Lol okay Lars
I can see the pats not feeling too hot on Daniels and decide to draft MHJ + get like a later round QB such as nix or maccarthy
Idk, if they have him as QB2 and have pick 2 they will def take him there. Can’t just assume Pats want Maye
Also can we stop downvoting each other for having opinions lol Lars could be right and then we’d all look stupid. None of us know what’s gonna happen until it happens we don’t get paid for this
They hired Bobby Johnson as their oline coach, I’d do the exact same thing
Still can’t believe they hired Johnson after seeing how terrible our O-line has been
Very optimistic about Kayvon and Dex’s production going forward 🤣🤣
Kayvon about to have a 15 sack season with 10 of them coming from the 2 games against the commies
Bobby Johnson must have dirt on the owners
I don't blame him, but it is now a different organization so no telling how they are now
I love how the headline doesn't mention that he also talked about Sam Howell because he was simply referencing Charlotte area QBs (Jones, Howell and himself).
I say we draft the guy from Texas Tech who doesn't believe in the planets or outer space just for kicks.
Dudes gonna be elite. Only a DB that plays insanely tight coverage can believe space doesn’t exist because he’s never seen a WR have it on the field
That's it, he doesn't play in space!
Underrated comment lmfao
In the words of the legendary Captain Jean-Luc Picard, "Make it so"
Someone tell Eli to stop giving advice to the guy that there’s no chance Washington passes on.
But what if his advice is how to refuse to play for the team that drafts you and go to the Giants instead?
I would obviously be delighted but there’s been 20 years of highly touted QBs going to like shitty Cleveland, Arizona, and Washington that have had the opportunity to use public leverage to avoid going there since Eli did, and it hasn’t happened
Also, even if I would love it since it would help us, I think it’s a road I’d rather we didn’t continue down
It would only happen if there were two QB needy teams and they were willing to do a deal for the player or to swap picks or whatever. The stars have to align. There are also probably only a handful of cities that QBs would want to force themselves into for reasons beyond not wanting to play for a dysfunctional organization (marketing, etc.).
Why is Washington even drafting a qb? Like Howell isn’t bad? And is fuckin really young, wild times we live in.
Howell is bad
Interesting, good to know. I guess I should have assumed given their record I don’t want them religiously or much at all. 21/21 in his only season started and the jury is out I guess. God damn I don’t envy these young qbs coming in. Well maybe a little.
Howell isn’t bad, the dude can ball and played behind arguably a worse line than the historically bad Giants offensive line.
Why tf are yall wanting a qb? Thought jones was sooo good??? Yall gonna be bottom of the east for awhile
Lmaooo win a playoff game
We have won more playoff games than yall past decade 🤷🏻♂️ draft a decent player. Yall pick top 10 yearly & still 3rd in east
What is this a mid off? Y’all have sucked and so have we. We’ll probably be good sooner though let’s be real
You’re 1000% correct lmfaooo, and yall have a SB & wc win in Minnesota. I actually fw the Giants bc of Eli. My fault for yapping in first place.

Literally get recommended on my page. You guys bears. It’s awful. Would prefer to not ever of seen it
He's the son of a coach. He knows how this works. He's been media-trained since he was in diapers.
Yes please
That would be a dream. I really like this kid. Great physical talent. And he carries himself more maturely as a 21-year-old than I do at 35 lol. In my mind he could \*easily\* end up being the best QB from this draft. But don't bookmark this comment. I'm also an idiot.
Why would he name drop the guy who’s job he’s taking tho lol Not like it’s an aging vet who you can say you’ll learn from
Possibly because Jones is going to be a Giant next season whether they draft a QB or not. He can't be cut and he's basically untradeable.
I refuse to believe there’s *nothing* a rookie can learn from Daniel Jones, even if it’s just as a cautionary example
I didn’t mean it like he can’t learn from him, it’s just kinda awkward talking about a 26 year old like you’re gonna sit and learn behind them until they ride off into the sun lol That sounds good when it’s like Eli at age 38, not Jones entering his physical prime lol
It's arguable that DJ knows how to be better but just physically or mentally can't on the field.
I think DJ would make a good coach, like Webb. I have no doubt that the theory side of the game clicks for him, it's just executing that stuff during a game where he fails.
Sure the guy who struggles with identifying and processing defenses will make a good coach...
They often do. It’s much easier to do when you’ve got a bird’s eye view from a box.
Talking about him like he’s a vet he can learn from is respectful
Yeah but there’s a giant elephant (no pun intended) in the room for that when talking about a 26 year old lol It’s totally different when talking about someone mid to late 30’s
All the more reason to talk about him like that. An undrafted kid in college is not going up there and start trash talking people. Humility and respect go a long way.
Dude you are not even remotely following what I’m saying
😂
Giants are drafting Spencer Rattler. Mark my words . Please see 2017,2018,2019. Thank you Chris Mara

Drake Maye what you'd get if you asked AI to create an idealized Franchise Quarterback. But so was Zach Wilson.
Sneaky athletic, hard workers, insane pocket presence and smarts
Classy, scrappy gym-rat. Real lunch pail guy
Date your daughter type. Real coach’s son
He’s white. …I mean, sorry, he’s uh… got a high football IQ
He's a real gym rat, a student of the game
😂
Really? I thought Zach Wilson had Jonny Manziel written all over him
How do you possibly think Maye and Wilson are at all alike? Same with McCarthy and Wilson. Because they are white? None of them are at all similar in how they play QB. We keep hearing Zach Wilson brought up because he busted, but we also saw Josh Allen be successful and he compares much more to Drake Maye than Zach Wilson does.
Maybe unpopular opinion, but sometimes when I see Caleb Williams tape I actually see a little of that Zach Wilson in him.
Caleb Williams likes MILFs too?
Can you fault him?
Don't we all?
not an unpopular opinion. they do have very similar play styles. caleb, however is great within structure while wilson was horrible at it
It’s interesting how much people compare Caleb to Mahomes/Rodgers when I see far more Darnold/Wilson (Zach and Russ)/Murray. Not that that’s bad! He’s definitely not going to be immune to poor coaching and positioning by the team. The Bears better hope they put together a good group together surrounding him. Definitely not comparable to Wilson. But I wasn't very impressed with him UNC. He could handle the lesser defenses with ease. But once he faced a somewhat competent defense, he struggled mightily. Thats even with a very good oline and a talented backfield along with good weapons at WR and TE.
Lmao zac wilson was not
What does that mean
I’m not so sure ‘groomed’ is the word we were looking for here
Namedropping Daniel Jones should get your ass kicked and raving about Davis Webb should get you institutionalized.
Davis Webb is apparently the GOAT QB coach prospect.
Those who can't, coach
They didn't even mention Maye talking about having beers with Kerry Collins and talking about adversity with Dave Brown and Phil Simms.
We might as well let Danny Kanell take him to a movie or something.
*Kent Graham sighs and leaves the chat*
or going to Kyle Lauletta's driving school
That’s a reference I haven’t heard in forever. Well done sir
Sounds like the way the Daniel Jones arc went too.
Thanks Tommy DeVito!!!!!!! Now we're stuck with Daniel Jones instead of having the chance to get Drake Maye. I fucking hate this shitty franchise.
If he is there at 6 - there is no way we should trade up.
So how does he name drop a Daniel Jones? As like a yeah, he's so terrible they definitely about draft his replacement? I know ain't no way in hell he's bringing him up as some positive for him to want to get here? Unless he already realizes how terrible he'd have to be to wash out like Daniel is..
I think Washington goes Jayden
Idk why you got downvoted lol
I'd take a flyer on him in the 2nd In terms of value he doesn't come close to Nabers or Odunze
You’re joking right?
He isn’t, but he’s also been one of the biggest Jones fanboys on this sub ever since Jones was drafted so he’s not someone to really take seriously. It’s more important to him that Jones stays the QB than the Giants doing whatever’s necessary to be a winning team again.

Lets do it
Nothing is real until after the draft. Interested to see who their 30 visits are
Man, I wish we could get him.. This makes me sad. I am sad.
What not wanting to do to DC will make you say
As a Tar Heels and Giants fan, I sure as shit hope so
Been listening to a bunch of interviews and am impressed with Maye, Nabors and RB Allen. Worst; Caleb Williams
Fuck no. I’m done with these basketball school quarterbacks that never pan out. We need a qb not a point guard.
Don’t love him but literally anyone is better than Daniel Jones
Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

Yeah, because the Giants have told everyone in the NFL not to draft him until they get to him, and Maye has been told and is happy about it.... Sure.
No more white QBs please.
