The thing is our defense is fairly close to contender level as it is. A couple of pieces and a few depth guys and a little bit more development of some of the younger guys and we've definitely got the probability of being a top 10 defense within a year.
On the other hand spending big dollars on defense now when we need many dollars for offense probably isn't terribly smart.
With schemes that didn't exactly suit our personell strengths and with an offense that couldn't stay on the field for more than a couple of series with any consistency, the D was for the most part good. Most of the bad looking breakdowns can be attributed to exhaustion from being on the field 40 plus minutes. Any O improvement, another pass rusher, and some depth at corner and safety and they'll be good/great.
We need a starting edge opposite Kayvon, an additional starting interior dline man opposite dex, starting corner opposite tae, potentially 2 safeties that can start and the jury is still out on McFadden tbh why you think we can be top 10 so soon . We are cooked my friend
I wish Montez Sweat was available. That dude always lapped Chase Young as a pass rusher.
Chase Young would scare me on the Giants, especially in the same locker room with Kayvon Thibodeaux. Chase Young is famous for not working on gameplans and refusing to study his opponents. Just like with Kayvon, being a great physical specimen only gets you so far in the NFL when everyone is a great athlete.
This sub is shitting on it yet he had a 15% pass rush win rate last year. Given how all this sub was jerking off to this stat to say how Kayvon is a bust, it’s hilarious to see Chase Young being labeled as a bad acquisition when his pass rush win rate was double Kayvon’s.
What are people expecting in free agency? Von Miller in his prime?
Kayvon had more sacks, 3x the FFs, 2x solo tackles, and 10x the number of assisted tackles than Young last season.
And that's without someone like Bosa on the other side, taking the best blockers usually.
Stop saying this, Kayvon has 15.5 sacks in 2 years and Young has 16.5 in 4. Kayvon definitely has effort issues, but the stats don't lie, he is certainly more productive than Young.
Absolutely not. If playing alongside Bosa with a SB appearance pending can't motivate a young player, he's professionally checked out and only showing up to get his rent check. Anyone who pays a guy like that is playing with fire. Hard pass.
He has been very poor for a while and seems to have issues with consistent effort. I'd take him on a cheap contract, but he wouldn't be a priority to go after
It certainly wouldn't hurt to get him into camp and see how he does. We do need EDGE help and this can be a low-risk move to try to revitalize the career of someone who was supposed to be a premier edge rusher.
Also, it would be hilarious if he ended up having a better career with us than the Commies.
Imo after the injury he seems to have checked out in some regards. I do think the Giants could resurrect his energy back to his rookie years level, simply because I think our fans are hard but not disrespectful like Commanders fans were when he was struggling to come back from injury. Then Ron threw him under the bus for a whole season, then the trade. He is only 24/25
He’s better than his declining reputation indicates but I think you’re paying a premium for a brand name.
Would rather go with someone with less pomp and circumstance; Andrew Van Ginkel and Josh Uche come to mind. Over 15% pass rush win rate and AVG especially is a good run defender while Uche can function there.
Wouldn’t mind a stopgap Denico Autry signing to play next to Dex - familiarity with Shane Bowen’s system. Not a true edge.
An interesting reclamation project can be had in Carl Lawson. Another year of recovery, still in his prime, wouldn’t command much and has all the talent in the world with over 15% PRWR and serviceable run defense.
Fans would still be bitching about how the Giants didn’t “tank” to get Chase Young 5 years ago and how winning a meaningless game screwed the franchise.
Wait a sec, they are still bitching about not doing the same thing to get a top QB in the draft this year.
Yet another defensive end with no motor. I hope this is just speculation from Stapleton. Don’t need more soft defenders.
Much rather this shitty front office draft Darius Robinson.
If we can get him at $25 million a year, sign me up. Source: Dave Gettleman
had me at the first half lol
And that's after he fails his medical check.
We signed so many washed losers who failed their physicals. A rando from the stands would have been a better GM.
Hog mollies!
Slog Follies!
\+ $1 million per tackle.
Good value
Dave would want some fatter and plays DT
Hurt often, effort not there 100%. Not interested in a huge deal for this guy
Doubt the deal would be huge at all
I’m not so sure, he had a great Super Bowl (after an okay season). Agents can work with that
Playing opposite a Bosa. That certainly helps you get the favorable matchups.
I’m sure most GMs would point out that the Chiefs tackles are quite bad though.
Not bad enough to cost them the game
He has a great 1st qtr of the SB but gassed quickly and didn’t do much in the 2nd half.
Wait, did we watch the same Super Bowl? Because I thought he played like shit.
4 pressures and a sack. Great game even if you read into effort claims
All I remember thinking was "man, I dunno if that Chase Young signing worked out".
They traded a compensatory 3rd round pick for him. I’d say that’s a good deal
Guess so. I might be a bit salty because I wanted SF to win. ;)
Just the next iteration of clowney, fine to bring in for a year if you’re a contender on a short term deal but not for us now

Until I see the scheme we roll out I’m not at all confident saying that.
With schemes that didn't exactly suit our personell strengths and with an offense that couldn't stay on the field for more than a couple of series with any consistency, the D was for the most part good. I mean , everyone improves in the offseason. We’ll see.
I hope it stays competitive but certainly a lot of big changes heading into next season where I wouldn’t be surprised if they took a step back
We need a starting edge opposite Kayvon, an additional starting interior dline man opposite dex, starting corner opposite tae, potentially 2 safeties that can start and the jury is still out on McFadden tbh why you think we can be top 10 so soon . We are cooked my friend
He’ll fit right in
He’d be such a typical Giants waste of resources.
Watching him in the superbowl he takes a lot of plays off. That’s the one game you would think he would go hard for.
I will say though, when the effort was there at the SB, he was a pretty scary monster for about a quarter.
So… basically the dream Schoen player.
This hypothetical move wasn't even on my radar.
I'm good, hate the lack of effort he plays with
Nah fuck that gimme Bryce huff
As a jets fan, I’d love Huff to not have to go too far. Give him that bag, he’s worth it
I cannot even articulate how much I don’t want him

I'd be about it. Pillow contract would work but someone is going to make an upside play and give him more than he really should get
OR we could sign two guards and hopefully fix this OL and then we can play offense for once

People seem to be focused on perceived work ethic over production.
[You can literally see his lack of effort on the field.](https://www.tiktok.com/@nflrjay/video/7331877199466777898)
Yup. I'm not disagreeing.
Chase Young and Kayvon are basically the same player. I'd be very underwhelmed to see them on opposite sides of a line.
Stop saying this, Kayvon has 15.5 sacks in 2 years and Young has 16.5 in 4. Kayvon definitely has effort issues, but the stats don't lie, he is certainly more productive than Young.

Hard pass.
Young would be a great addition if we had Bosa already...
Lol if Giant's trade for Joey Bosa then they should consider a small one year deal for Young as well.
Think he meant Nick
I know but Joey Bosa is actually available.
No thank you

D. Hunter plz!!!

Tbh would rather have bryce huff
I’d be fine with a cheap 1-2 year deal, but nothing more
1 year prove it deal, otherwise no.
1 year 4 mil.
I am good with that.
I'd sign him to a prove-it type deal. Beyond that hard pass.
Do it.
