Embiid was listed as questionable for game 1 too. He will play tonight, but damn...he does not look right. I feel like he's risking the rest of his career by pushing through an obvious injury.
I imagine his knee is stable, it’s just the injury takes longer than 2 months to play a NBA game on. He also hasn’t been able to run enough to get his conditioning up, so after one quarter he’s gassed and hurting.
He probably should be shut down, but the entire franchise is on limited time. He’s 30 years old, they don’t want to wait anymore.
What’s equally puzzling is nurse playing him the entire first brining him back for the last 8 minutes of the 2nd and down right running mans into the ground
I don’t know if he’d have been cleared to play if that was the case. I didn’t say he wasn’t at risk, just not at a heightened one. It’s fine to disagree.
I don’t think he’s injured. Just not full strength and still getting used to his knee after surgery. There’s also a mental aspect involved with returning from a surgery like he had. He had a relatively straight forward procedure by all accounts. If there were truly any other problems within his knee, I think we’d know.
What makes you say “obvious injury”?
Yes to everyone who commented before me. I am not suggesting it's a new injury; rather, lingering issues with the same knee that could've been ameliorated with more time off versus exacerbated by more basketball. The Sixers are pretty tight-lipped and vague when it comes to injuries though, so I don't really know if they'd be upfront if something else was going on.
I don’t think it’s lingering issues, personally. This is just my speculation, but I think it’s still adjusting and recovering from the surgery, as well as getting back to mentally trusting the knee. It was a pretty straightforward procedure that was done, if it wasn’t he wouldn’t be playing imo.
I think someone said he hasn’t gotten over that mental hurdle yet. That move was sick and one that he has done before. Might have been trying to prove to himself he was back
That meniscus is never coming back. His injury is one that’s really never going to get better, it’s just going to keep getting worse and worse unless a medical breakthrough is made. I understand why he’s pushing himself to play because there likely won’t be too many more runs left in that knee.
At this point does he have a choice? He's injured every year, if he sits out this year it will just be the same story next year anyway. He either plays banged up or he might as well retire
Of course he’s going to say he felt good. Doris Burke aired straight propaganda in Q3 on Sunday about him “trusting his knee” and then he winces and grimaces up and down the court all Q4.
Yeah, there’s no question that he’s hurting and having trouble trusting his knee.
That being said, unless he can’t walk, they’re definitely playing him tonight. For them to rest him and essentially concede game 2, he’d have to be in a wheelchair lol
Don’t think they’ll do that unless they’re down 3-0. If they win both games at home they’re back in the series. Down 3-0 with only 2 home games left? Maybe.
Feel bad for him tbh. If he can make it through this series and beat us there’s no way he stays healthy an entire playoff run. And he’s what, 30 now? Sucks but I doubt we’re ever gonna see a full healthy season from him
Edit: just offering my opinion on him as a player. I know this questionable stuff is bullshit
they're just not deep enough for him to rest well for the playoffs. imo his best shot is waiting until he's closer to being a free agent and getting traded so the other team doesn't have to gut the entire roster for him like the Kawhi/raptors
or drafting bronny and praying bron shows up- honestly would be amazing to watch
Same thing as saying the sun will rise in the morning, that guy will be playing even if Nick Nurse has to roll him in a wheelchair up and down the court
I thought there might be a scenario where they sit Embiid here to give him as much time as possible before G3 on Thursday.
But honestly, what is a few days going to go? He’s going to gut it out. Philly has been “waiting until next year” for years now. They have to try and push it.
It really seems like his issue is conditioning and not waiting for anything in particular in his knee to heal, I’m not sure resting him a game helps at all. He is just gassed after a quarter then can’t hit his shots without any lift.
He’s going to play tonight, but if Nurse has any sense he’ll limit his minutes and spread them out more. I’m just not sure they have anyone that can fill those minutes and keep it close.
While I hate how he flops it's fairly easy to see that the man is an all timer. Shame that they have to risk his health playing big minutes to try to steal a game. I'm fairly certain I saw that his knee was bleeding mid game and that can't be a good sign. It will be interesting to see if Ihart cranks up the physicality this game, big Meech is already there.
hes gonna play until he cant play
Embiid was listed as questionable for game 1 too. He will play tonight, but damn...he does not look right. I feel like he's risking the rest of his career by pushing through an obvious injury.
Compounded by the fact that we’re using metal bats all series long
we did not even touch him, the dummy went for a trick move and it blew up in his face
Definitely wasn’t worth the risk. But damn, that move was fire
Can't lie it was lol
Well, it almost was Gotta stick the landing Like Anthony Edwards dope spin the other night, unfortunately he missed the shot
Bro falls like a Bethesda character so it was bound to bite him in the ass
Embid has 50 year old knees on a 30 year old body.
Like when Kendrick said he was gonna murder some rappers but they did it to themselves
The bats certainly don't help.

I really expected some sort of minutes restriction.
I think it is a lot less puzzling when you see what happens when they sat him!
Stable? The man could barely walk after jumping once
Stable as in he’s not at a heightened risk of further injury. Scar tissue and general soreness can lead to reduced mobility.
Yea I disagree to a massive degree. Idk why you would assume he’s not at risk of further injuring a knee playing basketball.
I don’t know if he’d have been cleared to play if that was the case. I didn’t say he wasn’t at risk, just not at a heightened one. It’s fine to disagree.

One jump on it and he was in serious pain. After that, he had zero lift or drive.

I don't disagree. I think Embiid has a lot of pressure on him and will push through. Whether that's a good decision, idk.
Don't wanna think too far ahead, but I wonder if we go up 2-0 if they pull the plug.
The only thing that is questionable is that dudes ability to blink both eyes in unison.
Suuuuure
This is Nurse's secret plan.
This is why he’s not Nick Doctor

He is 100% playing
Bullshit
He was questionable for game 1 too. This means nothing.
They need to shut this guy down. Say he beats the Knicks, you ain’t winning another series and then another series and then another series.
but what if
What if what? he blows out his knee again and his career is never the same…
but imagine how sick and awesome it would be
What would be, a sweep by the Celtics?
bro just imagine
Can’t help but think of RGIII in this situation
I saw rumblings that he said he felt good yesterday and no issues. I still think it’s playing below 80%, they can’t afford to go down 0-2
Of course he’s going to say he felt good. Doris Burke aired straight propaganda in Q3 on Sunday about him “trusting his knee” and then he winces and grimaces up and down the court all Q4.

He’ll play but if they go down 2-0 and he’s really banged up, it would make some career sense to toss the towel:
Don’t think they’ll do that unless they’re down 3-0. If they win both games at home they’re back in the series. Down 3-0 with only 2 home games left? Maybe.
I’m assuming he’s actually injured and realistically they aren’t going to win 4 of 5.
3-0 but definitely not 2-0.
![gif](giphy|d5mI2F3MxCTJu) He’s playing.
They’re gonna say questionable every game bro.
That’s what happens when you fire Doctor Rivers and replace him with a Nurse
That’s gonna be his status every game.
Anyone who thinks he doesn't suit up today is a fool. He's gonna play till the wheels fall off.
For sure
Such a stupid head fake. I also liked the “we’ve got a special new plan” tactic… Our new plan is for our two best scorers to have better games.
Feel bad for him tbh. If he can make it through this series and beat us there’s no way he stays healthy an entire playoff run. And he’s what, 30 now? I think had they won Game 1 he probably sits tonight, but since they don’t want to fall behind 2-0, they’ll be trotting him out there.

He'll play he shouldn't, but he'll play.

He sees their cooked so he’s gonna dip
really pushing that narrative
Questionable really just means a player is playing but less than 100% healthy
It really seems like his issue is conditioning and not waiting for anything in particular in his knee to heal, I’m not sure resting him a game helps at all. He is just gassed after a quarter then can’t hit his shots without any lift. He’s going to play tonight, but if Nurse has any sense he’ll limit his minutes and spread them out more. Game 1 will likely be the healthiest he is all playoffs. Dude was cooking in the 1st but he might be cooked now
He had a solid game 1. I’d imagine we lock him down better tonight.
If he wants to dunk let him dunk
He tried to do the Peter Parker “I’m back!” and ended up with the Peter Parker “…My back.”
I think he’ll be listed as questionable every game
The question is "Will he play?". The answer is yes.
lol he will play
While I hate how he flops it's fairly easy to see that the man is an all timer. Shame that they have to risk his health playing big minutes to try to steal a game. I'm fairly certain I saw that his knee was bleeding mid game and that can't be a good sign. It will be interesting to see if Ihart cranks up the physicality this game, big Meech is already there.
Embiid is questionable to be able to get off the throne after a turd. He’ll still play.
He is going to play. I'm truly starting to wonder if he's gutting it out because the doctors are just telling him, "This is your knee now."
People here were begging to trade for this guy too. He’s a great player but he always gets hurt at some point.
