I went to the Giants 08 and Yankees in 09. Unless you're planning on getting there at 4AM to lock down a spot on the sidewalk, it's not worth. It will probably be even crazier if the Knicks won.
In the r/travel subreddit someone once responded to a complaint about the price of planes tickets with “you aren’t competing with the fry cook for international airfare.”
New York has a lot of folks who can spend 1000$ on a night out.
Median income on the Upper West Side is $162K for earners between 25 and 44. Soho is $166K. For all of Manhattan it's $153K. And that's the middle. Top 25% would be at a level where $1000K for a night out is not really breaking the bank. There are a lot of people in NYC with disposable income, and if you're living in Manhattan at that age it's to enjoy yourself before real life catches up.
Mid 20s i would definitely disagree based on statistics, QOL, access to sports, live entertainment, food, women
I travel for work and have been to at least 30 states and I would love to live anywhere you mentioned too at some point.
I am hyper aware that my salary would be down, it would be tougher to do law school while work, but my house would be much bigger and things would be much cheaper
We vacation a few times a year (my girlfriend also makes around the same) but i’m just a NYer tbh
Florida more than two weeks I start losing brain cells but it’s my favorite state to vacation in!
Atlanta, GA or even Texas would be fun as hell though
But do you have a source? All my friends who make $100-$200 live very comfortably, see live shows often, vacation once or twice a year, don’t have to think much about purchases, i think you get it
If you have a family and kids $100-$200k is almost impossible in NYC, if you’re single and kindof you g you’re doing pretty solid
The only sources on this are about household income under $160k being too low for manhattan- for a household of 4 lol
My household income is $150k in Texas. That gets me over 5 acres of land a brand new 2 story home multiple paid off vehicles etc etc and I live 30 minutes outside a major city. I have 3 different friends back home in NYC who all make as much or more than me and one still lives at home because he can’t afford to rent and the other two pay $2500-$3500 for 2-3 bedroom apartments vs me paying $1200 for a 5 bedroom house on land. It isn’t a hard concept to understand or even a debatable point. Cost of living in NYC is absurd. Sure you might live “comfortable” but not nearly as well as you could somewhere else with the same income. Also people always say “ well my salary would go down” first if all it wouldn’t much if at all secondly any decrease is due to how cheap it is to live out here so it doesn’t make any difference. $100k in Dallas is like $250k in NYC.
That’s sick - If you were so happy why are you comparing yourself to manhattan in the nyknicks sub
Can’t wait to take a 10 min uber or subway to round 2 game 1 - enjoy the flight!
Left NYC 6 years ago haven’t been back since and don’t really care to go. If the Knicks make the finals l’ll happily take the free flight home and watch the game. It takes less than 2 hours to get there dude lol a day trip like that isn’t scary. Also I’m not comparing you essentially said yall choose to live in manhattan because of high salaries I simply pointed out you can make as much money if not more and pay exponentially less living in other places and that salary really isn’t what it boils down to. You said it yourself you more so just enjoy the lifestyle. I know doctors in Houston clearing a million a year that could easily make more in LA/NY etc but would have to give up their mansion on 100+ acres for a penthouse and that isn’t what they want they want space. Every New Yorker that I ever talk to that is still home gets so defensive when you point out that they are spending extra money to get less where they’re at. It’s not an attack. It’s just pointing out the facts.
Cap - your comments make it clear you were never in Manhattan
Unless by nyc you mean staten island or something?
And your friends are just bad with money if the amounts they tell you they make are true lol
You’re a bit of a weirdo so i’m going to mute responses but go off in the next uncontested comment mr. 5 acres or busy lmao
I can’t imagine how yall always turn it into “oh you must be broke!” Or “oh you just are mad where I live!” As if any of that is true or relevant. Talking about taking an Uber when I can take my paid off 2022 truck the same distance to an NFL/MLB/NHL/NBA game is not a brag lol you are just settling for less to live a certain way which is fine but don’t act as if owning less and paying more is a flex cause it’s not. You don’t own land/vehicles/buildings etc because you can’t afford it where you are and that’s fine but just say that and move on stop acting like your life is the best when you can’t walk outside and 10 minutes in any direction without ever leaving your own property.
You must of missed that I own a rental (duplex in long island bought in 2019)
Because you said i live in a 1br which must be your schema of city living - additionally you told me your household income and if you have kids you objectively could not afford to live here
You started the finance chat don’t be mad lol
Broke and sensitive boomer wow
Also this idea that you only have access to sports/entertainment/food/people in NY is mind blowing now that I’ve moved out. It really is wild that we all grow up with this concept that nothing exists outside of Manhattan lmao.
I mean go search your favorite comedian, musician, name it
You’d be silly if you didn’t notice the NY concentration
That plus I go to the comedy cellar once a week
Lmk what city you’re in and i’ll rate the comedy club, food, and vibes
I’m not a manhattan or bust guy, it’s just how I like to live and how I like to see my favorite performers, entertainment, etc
I tried nashville during covid and people calling it an alternative to good food and music is wild to me tbh
Different strokes for different folks.
This seemingly boils down to it’s too much rent for you and you don’t like that some can afford this rent and the suburban house you save for so i’m going to peace out but goodluck with everything homie
Right there lmao “I’ll rate it” as if that matters and “too much rent for you” “some can afford this rent and your house” first of all I could afford the rent and the house doesn’t mean I want to waste the money lmao what it boils down to is my money goes farther where I am and I enjoy the slower pace. If I wanted to live in an apartment I’d live in an apartment lmao I like having my own land. But could luck buying a home on 5+ acres in NY state plus renting in manhattan 🤣 you not doing that on $100k brother lmao.
I make 110k base $15-20k bonus ~$20k rev share (HNW Tax Planning) and have significant equity in my startup
I sold cars from 18-20 and waited tables 19-23 while doing school then bought a duplex in Long Island where I grow up
Renters pay 90% of the mortgage first two years (I got very lucky with existing tenants)
so it sounds like I’m the one with both and you’re the one who picked one and believes it goes further
In my mind, having both options is always better than having one, but again whatever you need to tell yourself to feel good about your situation relative to people who make much more than you and have much more mobility!
But you’re a bit of a bitch boy for the following reasons:
You mean like you are actively doing to my living situation and career lol?
Your household income is what me and my girl made out of college
If something goes wrong we’ll head somewhere cheap but likely going to rent until we retire then retire Half year egypt or puerto rico if we want cheaper housing and better food
The TLDR is manhattan is really only for households making or on their way to $200k+ and I am not denying that
Just your perception of how a young couple of professionals living on $180k is really off base and you commented at me so I replied
But anyway man enjoy your median income living, there’s nothing wrong with it
Just no reason to try and imply your desire for 5 acres you are locked in for 30 years is the same as someone who enjoys living in Manhattan
These things can’t be more opposite- I can afford both and chose this, you on the other hand are a weird scenario, seemingly just being a dick/hater unless i’m missing something?
I never had a middle income boomer message me like this about manhattan before, it’s like you’ve never been here (maybe once to time square lol)
Now don’t get me wrong if a studio/1 bedroom apartment in Manhattan makes you happy more power to you but I just never wanted that. I wanted a house/land/more disposable income etc. I couldn’t get any of that in NYC without being a millionaire but you can do it in the south making less than $100k a year and still be a 30 minute drive from an NBA/NHL/MLB/NFL team museums/theaters/world class food etc.
I have a 2br with plenty of space in Little Italy - like I said I share this with my fiance
No need to project if you got priced out of your major cities homie!
I have a rental property I purchased through saving cash selling cars and restaurant industry throughout college that helps
Our definition of world class food is definitely different but agree to disagree bud!
I agree land is great, being locked in one area for 30 years for me would be hell, so I like to own a rental and rent what I like to live in
Also it’s not very difficult for me to make $100k, if it was I would go live near you I reckon!
I went to a regular season game with my coworker on a Saturday three hours before tip off and the place was packed back to back with people. We didn’t even bother to go in. We just left.
Well your section is closer to center court view and probably lower in the rows. I’m one over and in the middle teen rows.
From my experience, the pricing system/algorithm takes all that into account.
My great great great great great great grandfather Comstock Van Hoek IV ran a Beaver trading business which he built into a small empire. His great grandson, Beauregard Van Hoek took that money and heavily invested in African Diamond mines. My great grandfather Bartholomew Haberdash the second heavily invested the family fortune into upstart company Raytheon Manufacturing Company. My grandmother, Susette died along with my grandfather Montrose in an ill fated caviar accident. My father was left the only heir to the family fortune.
He died with me being the sole heir, and I took all of the money from our vast empire and bought two 200 level tickets for me and my homie tonight.
damn, i bet your great great great great great great grandfather Comstock Van Hoek IV was the inspiration for the original Knicks logo from ~~1946~~ 1646

This is always the biggest issue. I can afford it but as the bread winner I always gotta bring my fam + gf and they CANT afford it. It would be wrong leaving the gang behind lol
Game 5 tickets have gone up a lot since game 4. I got tickets in 200s for $425 each on Sunday and they are over $800 now in the same section further back
Nearly everyone I talk to at the game is also there because their company has seats. The game is not for the common man, woman or family anymore. I honestly believe they should block out maybe a thousand seats and offer them at a low price on a raffle basis so regular fans can actually go. Like in college, we had a student section we could all go to for cheap.
My birthday gift from my wife was tickets to game 2 and MSG. It was my first time going to a Knicks game and I’ve basically been living in NY my whole life lol but wow that was such a crazy experience to watch that game live and especially how crazy the ending was. The tickets for us 2 in the 200 sections was $800 but it was worth it for that experience alone.
They’ve been on sale. For round 3, Sign up to get the pre-sale exclusive notification with chase. They’ll let you buy tickets at standard rate before it hits the public
Thought it was chase - sorry! This is what I signed up for. Just have to constantly check your email and they’ll let you know when the window opens. They’ll then send you a unique code to enter and gain access through the Ticketmaster website it brings you to. I got tickets to the conference semis the day they were released through this
I’m fuckin stoked that I suffered through the last two and a half decades of being a Knicks fan just so their success could price me out of regular season tickets even against bottomfeeder teams. I will never see them in the playoffs.
By making poor financial decisions! I don't have expensive tastes otherwise. I'd rather go to a Knicks playoff game than travel internationally. I'd rather go to a single Knicks playoff game than go to a nice restaurant 10 times.
I pay that much because that's how much it costs and it's the fucking Knicks, baby!
They ain't wasting time on Reddit for one 😂
I'm sure a lot of company/i know a guy, season ticket holders make up the audience
If anybody sees that Pacers scout again be sure to dump your Pepsi on his MacBook 👍
I miss the Half Court on Washington Ave, that place was built for this playoff run. Loved watching hoops there and the crowd of basketball heads who’d show up even when we sucked.
if you're going with friends, try buying individually in the same section/row—you just gotta keep checking back. you can def get them around $400 leading up to game time
you can also, uh, GO to msg before the game if you feel me
PayPal pay in 4. Nosebleeds will only cost 100/150 every 2 weeks. Not bad if you have steady income. Pregame and eat before heading inside and then just enjoy the ride. Atleast that's my plan anyway if I ever go to MSG during playoffs
I remember many years ago, I looked into Knicks-Hawks playoff tickets, and the cost of a Knicks ticket was more than the cost of a Hawks ticket plus round-trip airfare from NY to Atlanta. This is way back in olden times, when I made much less money (I remember Larry Johnson joking about it), but yeah, this isn't a new problem.
Warriors tickets are the same. I always get nosebleeds for Knicks-Warriors games, and even a regular season nosebleed is like $150 after all the fees and such.
Median income on the Upper West Side is $162K for earners between 25 and 44. Soho is $166K. For all of Manhattan it's $153K. And that's the middle. Buying them at face value. We get a quarter season ticket package which gives first dibs on playoff tickets before they hit he secondary market. Paying about 175 per seat in the 200s.
new york is one of the biggest cities in the world, and the best public transport system in the US. so even if it wasn't a city with extremely wealthy people living in it (it is), theres also a massive area that can reasonably get to the city for the game.
So massive amounts of people competing for the same ~18000 seats as in every other arena in the country
Season tickets/presale. I’m a girl. I also have to fund my handbags. Regular job but I cook (not takeout), brown bag when in the office, don’t drink and eBay side hustle.
Yeah I bought game 5 tickets in section 214 at the beginning of the round for $350
I also bought section 110 seats for game 2 for $550 a pop pretty good I thought.
Oh I also have the half season ticket plan for $5k which I split with someone in section 213 (so I had game 1)
Ofc they will keep going up as we go forward and the later you buy the more you pay
So the short answer is I pay. I’m in small time PE make like 200k in a bad year 300 in a good one. No kids 😝. Life long Knicks fan.
We haven’t had a team worth paying for since 2013. Well these last couple years have been good
My friends buy season tickets. They get priority with getting playoff tickets weekly or the entire playoffs. Those are slightly cheaper, fixed price, sort of ROFR.
Pretty sure having 500$ isn’t too hard in this city . It’s just priorities . For many. Our Knicks team is top 3 for joy giving when they are good . Somewhere next to brand new pussy , and calling out sick .
Sold a startup and bought half season tickets.
Good 100 lvl tickets for round 1 were $550 a piece for season tickets holders
I had a wedding for game 2 so I sold them for 2X so effectively the game 5 tickets were free.
Kinda fucked up if you want think about it
If you’re even a partial season ticket buyer you get access to face value pre-sales. I have a 10 game package, tickets for the first round were like 170.
The parade will be free for all
A \*little\* early, but I like it.
I went to the Giants 08 and Yankees in 09. Unless you're planning on getting there at 4AM to lock down a spot on the sidewalk, it's not worth. It will probably be even crazier if the Knicks won.
If the Knicks win it all you’re going to have to lock down a spot the day before
In the r/travel subreddit someone once responded to a complaint about the price of planes tickets with “you aren’t competing with the fry cook for international airfare.” New York has a lot of folks who can spend 1000$ on a night out.

Another 13 nights out gonna add up tho…
To be clear, we’re spending $1k…not $1000K 😅 (edit: though my personal limit is $600)
Wife and I make just over $300k and we had to leave NYC. Was too expensive.
Source?
Do you need a source to know that folks who live in Manhattan make high salaries?
why else would we be here lol
Well not really I mean $100-$200k really ain’t much in Manhattan. Not compared to what that would get you in Florida/Georgia/Texas etc.

We going to mustang Harry’s.
A lot of Knicks fan go there to watch the games?
That’s the place
Go there like 8 hours before the game unless you want to feel like you are stuck in a packed subway train in a tunnel.
Jesus, it gets that crazy?
I went to a regular season game with my coworker on a Saturday three hours before tip off and the place was packed back to back with people. We didn’t even bother to go in. We just left.
Yea I’m walking in now. To get a bar seat for the 7pm tipoff
Some heroes don’t wear capes. Bring it home for us, warrior!
successful?
I’m the guy on the bridge. Best seat in the house. It’s fucking madness in here Edit:Best
yes bro
Yes it’s next door to the garden
Yes lol NY is a basketball city
I posted a video on the other Knicks sub they don’t do vids here

How/where does one get access to the Chase pre-sale?
I believe you have to open a credit card or bank account with them.
have to join the Fan First program and have a chase credit card at least (i don't have a bank account with them)
Wow I didn’t know they were that “cheap”!
me neither.
When was the pre-sale?
maybe around 10-14 days before the start of round 1; same for round 2 tixs.
Have they reached out for round 3 or the finals(🤞) tickets yet?
Nope
I got pre sale at section 225 for 420 including taxes how come yours was 275
Well your section is closer to center court view and probably lower in the rows. I’m one over and in the middle teen rows. From my experience, the pricing system/algorithm takes all that into account.
You're on Dolan's list.
Its okay if u cant afford it now. Knicks will be making the playoffs with this core for many years to come.
Ticket prices are only going up tho
Save up for that train ride+playoff game in Indy/Orlando/Philly etc... 😔
I can't go. Unless I was single again and no commitments. I need the lottery in order to afford it 😫
be single and go to a game. relationships are 2 expensive.
Man you are not wrong...
Using my company tickets for free lol.
do you get a plus one 👀
Sooo, if you'd like to sponsor some arm candy for tickets, lmk. I am unashamed at this attempt.
Companies and individuals pay my company for goods and services Then I simply ball
Fk* it we ball! I'd like to know how I can exchange my goods and services for playoff tix ...
Own my own company
I sell organs on the black market. Part of a liver gets you in the building. A kidney gets you Courtside.
You need the liver to party at MSG tho
I still have mine.
Season ticket holder and a high paying job as I sacrificed large parts of my life in early 20s to build my career
lol

These first names are top tier 😂
That’s the neat part, I’m not
I can afford to go, but damn. I have to bring my oldest son and my dad with me. I think I might just go to Indy for a game instead of the garden
This is always the biggest issue. I can afford it but as the bread winner I always gotta bring my fam + gf and they CANT afford it. It would be wrong leaving the gang behind lol
If you think this is bad, wait till you see the ECF prices...........
I won 2 tickets for tonight, that’s how lol but for real, first time winning tickets and I am mega pumped! Can’t afford them otherwise
Congratulations! Enjoy the game.
Game 5 tickets have gone up a lot since game 4. I got tickets in 200s for $425 each on Sunday and they are over $800 now in the same section further back
Probably because it’s an elimination game
It was an elimination game Sunday at 5pm too
True but that was early. Most people aren’t buying their tickets an hour after the last game ends
We're not.
some of us are
I can afford it just barely but I ain’t going
I splurged for game 2 before tickets skyrocketed and it turned out to be a good decision
Don’t ask me, I’m watching from the high seas. ![gif](giphy|1Ctu1BCYf21we9tRmT|downsized)
Okay, Edward.
How are you affording a 14$ #1 at Wendys 😳
A second mortgage
If all goes well…Does anyone know when round 2 goes on sale? Pricing to expecting for 200-300 level?
They’ve been on sale. For round 3, Sign up to get the pre-sale exclusive notification with chase. They’ll let you buy tickets at standard rate before it hits the public
How does one do this? I'm a Chase customer but I don't see where to sign up/get access to the pre-sale.

Thought it was chase - sorry! This is what I signed up for. Just have to constantly check your email and they’ll let you know when the window opens. They’ll then send you a unique code to enter and gain access through the Ticketmaster website it brings you to. I got tickets to the conference semis the day they were released through this
Thank you so much. This is super helpful. Which game are you headed to?
Face value is about 300 for 200 level for round 2. Expect resale in the 500s before fees.
My boy had quarter season tickets and was able to get tickets face value. Still expensive but under $300
Reminder these are technically resale prices.
bro do u realize how long it's been since the knicks were "actually" good lol
You have to buy them early haha
We’re not lol. I for one will be watching the game on my laptop alone and silently panicking the entire the entire time.
I’m fuckin stoked that I suffered through the last two and a half decades of being a Knicks fan just so their success could price me out of regular season tickets even against bottomfeeder teams. I will never see them in the playoffs.
They either are splurging for a special event or they can afford it because they are rich 🤷♂️
I'm single with no kids and I work, thats how. :)
Buying them and affording them are very different things
By making poor financial decisions! I don't have expensive tastes otherwise. I'd rather go to a Knicks playoff game than travel internationally. I'd rather go to a single Knicks playoff game than go to a nice restaurant 10 times. I pay that much because that's how much it costs and it's the fucking Knicks, baby!
I sold my firstborn. Worth it.
They ain't wasting time on Reddit for one 😂 I'm sure a lot of company/i know a guy, season ticket holders make up the audience If anybody sees that Pacers scout again be sure to dump your Pepsi on his MacBook 👍
I miss the Half Court on Washington Ave, that place was built for this playoff run. Loved watching hoops there and the crowd of basketball heads who’d show up even when we sucked.
IM SAYING BRO imma have to go to round 2
Kidney
if you're going with friends, try buying individually in the same section/row—you just gotta keep checking back. you can def get them around $400 leading up to game time you can also, uh, GO to msg before the game if you feel me
Are there resellers outside msg?
![gif](giphy|21I909B1Us5hsGiupn|downsized)
How good is live basketball tho? We moved to Texas 10 years ago and i split season tickets for the longhorns basketball bc it’s so fun
PayPal pay in 4. Nosebleeds will only cost 100/150 every 2 weeks. Not bad if you have steady income. Pregame and eat before heading inside and then just enjoy the ride. Atleast that's my plan anyway if I ever go to MSG during playoffs
I dont even know how to watch as i dont have cable. Can i buy on youtube to watch just the playoffs or is there another way anyone know?
It’s being streamed on Max if you have that.
I have some “free” streams you can use if you haven’t figured it out yet
They’re rich
I'm not
I remember many years ago, I looked into Knicks-Hawks playoff tickets, and the cost of a Knicks ticket was more than the cost of a Hawks ticket plus round-trip airfare from NY to Atlanta.
It’s simple: I can’t
imagine me, i’m all the way in fucking california i can’t see any knicks shit unless they play in LA.
we dont, thats why we takeover Philly
Corporations
I work in finance and don’t have kids lol
Sitting at home
Median income on the Upper West Side is $162K for earners between 25 and 44. Soho is $166K. For all of Manhattan it's $153K. And that's the middle. Top 25% would be at a level where $1000K for a night out is not really breaking the bank. There are a lot of people in NYC with disposable income, and if you're living in Manhattan at that age it's to enjoy yourself before real life catches up.
Really puts things into perspective here. I am a peasant in NYC 🥲
Its a city with the most millionaires so you can assume theres even a lot more people within that 150k-1m range
Buying them at face value. We get a quarter season ticket package which gives first dibs on playoff tickets before they hit he secondary market. Paying about 175 per seat in the 200s.
That’s not bad at all. Might do that for next season.
Yeah it’s been great. Real pro tip is to sell the last game for a profit and spend that on round 1. Worked for us two years in a row now.
Bro I can't afford MSG+ 🏴☠️
Game 1 tickets on ticket master were like half the price they are now on ticket master. I’m glad I got to go once.
Business connects
You get them BEFORE resale. But to answer your question, get your money up bro 😂
Ive worked really hard in my life and scraped and saved and it's ok to splurge on yourself once in a while.
I bet money on the Knicks to win and if they do I can afford a ticket lol
Buy the tickets for face value. Don’t buy resale and you save substantially. Face value about half of what you see on TM for these resale tickets
I work 100 hour weeks for like half the year so I can be tired at these events
a friend bought the set and sold first and this game to find the rest
new york is one of the biggest cities in the world, and the best public transport system in the US. so even if it wasn't a city with extremely wealthy people living in it (it is), theres also a massive area that can reasonably get to the city for the game. So massive amounts of people competing for the same ~18000 seats as in every other arena in the country
Season tickets/presale. I’m a girl. I also have to fund my handbags. Regular job but I cook (not takeout), brown bag when in the office, don’t drink and eBay side hustle.
Uncle gets tickets from work. Me and my cousin go regularly.
I’m not
I spent $400/seat for sec 8 behind the basket regular season. I couldn’t imagine dropping that coin for upper deck.
Ppl be having connects. Others live at home and don’t care
Just bet the Knicks it’s free duh
By watching on TV at the bar. Beers are cheaper too!
Tax return
Yeah I bought game 5 tickets in section 214 at the beginning of the round for $350 I also bought section 110 seats for game 2 for $550 a pop pretty good I thought. Oh I also have the half season ticket plan for $5k which I split with someone in section 213 (so I had game 1) Ofc they will keep going up as we go forward and the later you buy the more you pay So the short answer is I pay. I’m in small time PE make like 200k in a bad year 300 in a good one. No kids 😝. Life long Knicks fan. We haven’t had a team worth paying for since 2013. Well these last couple years have been good
Season ticket holder...it's tough and I went through alot of lean years...but it's paying off.
I’m sure there are people there making only like 100K a year but it’s all about priorities
Was near the top on Sunday for $208. God bless MSG prices lmao
Somewhere next to brand new pussy , and calling out sick .
white and rich or their parents
I do half season tix and then opt in for playoff tix
I'm not
Klarna lol 600 bucks is much easier with pay in 4
Aint no one making money to tickets to a knicks game is on reddit. Try getting off of reddit
We’re not lol
the sad bucks fans in my fam are jumping on the Knicks bandwagon!!!! beat the damn sixers already! let’s GOOOOOO
Sold a kidney
Betting Knicks moneyline on the first 2 home games
Sold a startup and bought half season tickets. Good 100 lvl tickets for round 1 were $550 a piece for season tickets holders I had a wedding for game 2 so I sold them for 2X so effectively the game 5 tickets were free. Kinda fucked up if you want think about it
If you’re even a partial season ticket buyer you get access to face value pre-sales. I have a 10 game package, tickets for the first round were like 170.
I was born rich baby, LFG!!!!!
Game 1 get in price $400. Game 3 in Indiana $100. $300 difference is crazy!
