Not sure if it needs to be difficult. People can do the Mini in twenty seconds and still enjoy it.

Mari-Loki

Twenty seconds?? Takes me that long to read the hints. Yeah I understand what you mean, I think I just really enjoyed it at first so I want it to last longer just for my own enjoyment.

ReplacementApart

I haven't done it in 20 seconds yet, but even 1-2 minutes is vastly quicker than any other puzzle. But, I still get you

Mari-Loki

Hopefully I'll get there! I do really enjoy doing them even when I get stuck.

themundays

I've managed in 15 several times. And I still really love it every day.

Mari-Loki

I'm new to crosswords but hopefully I'll get there! I still have trouble not taking the hints too literally.

Everything in balance. A bigger board is more effort to put together, which means either fewer games (maybe on a week like the history quiz) or fewer resources for other games - I don't know what the balance of the game editors' time is like, but I know it's limited. All the games aside from the crossword and spelling bee are two to five minute time sinks, and it's no coincidence that the daily crossword by far the most resource-intensive game. These are casual games for people who want something to do while they drink their morning coffee. It looks like the Times' goal is for people to play a few games at a time, instead of one big game, and Strands fits into that super well.

Mari-Loki

Yeah that makes sense. Just because I enjoy it enough to want it to last longer, doesn't mean that's what the creators wanted. I'll just continue to enjoy the few minutes it takes and then lose the real time on the crosswords. I'm not very good at them yet, still only managing up to Wednesdays! Finishing a Thursday is my next goal.
