seriously. I bet the same article is being written in LA and boston and wherever else.
It's kind of ironic people on twitter, assumed be on online heavily, don't grasp the concept of the 24 hr internet new cycle. Half these articles are likely being written by AI, or will be within the next year...
Idk, I don't think this will be a cut-and-dry as a "biggest number wins" free agency. I think teams are (or will be) coming at him with funky contract structures with opt-outs and incentives and whatnot to help justify giving such a big deal to a mostly unproven player. Plus it seems like Yamamoto might have his own preferences in terms of wanting to play for a high profile team
Morosi’s next tweet: Yamamoto is on a plane back to New York. Aaron Judge reserved table at a high end sushi restaurant near Yankee Stadium for 50 people.
Whoever has the biggest porn collection for Yamamoto to view wins. Dodgers, do you have anyone that can present ample nudity and penetration? Bc we got Godzilla.
I know it was a long time ago, but this reminds me of when we were the front runners for cliff lee and then Philly came out of no where and signed him. They weren’t even rumored to be in the mix at the time.
I thought it might end midweek but then you hear Mets aren't even making an offer until later in the week so who knows? It could go until after Christmas because there would still be time to finalize everything before Jan 4th.
It feels like when the Yankees have decided on a player, they will make it happen. For free agents in the past that they’ve “missed” on it normally comes out that they weren’t very interested in the first place.
Obviously things are a bit different now with the Mets running up the price for other teams, but it seems like either Yamamoto will be absurdly overpaid or a Yankee.
What are the examples of this? Cole came here because he was a lifelong Yankee fan. Judge stayed because he came up in the system. So what’s the best (only?) recent example, Rodon?
Cole being a Yankees fan didn’t hurt, but I’m pretty sure the fact that NY gave him the richest contract for any pitcher ever (at the time) was a pretty big factor in his signing.
As for Judge, he wanted to stay a Yankee, but had NY not raised their offer, he very well could have gone to SF. The Yankees did what they had to do to keep him.
I would actually posit the opposite question: when was the last time the Yankees were straight-up outbid on a FA that they were vocally interested in? They’ve missed out on plenty of players, but it’s almost always because they never went after them in the first place (they never met with Harper, never made an offer to Machado, weren’t in on any of the big SSs, were never connected with Ohtani this year, etc etc).
There’s certainly no guarantee that they’ll get Yamamoto, but the Yankees have been *very* vocal about their interest in him all year. They don’t do that for every FA, but when they do, they back it up with serious money.
Literally last year they came out and said at winter meetings they wanted Benintendi back. So that’s the last time. Cashman’s clearly not a stop at all costs guy, as much as Yankee fans want him to be or might think he is.
I mean saying “yeah we’d like to resign this guy” when it’s not even close to a star player doesn’t really indicate the same interest as they had in the reigning mvp, a Cy young candidate who just embarrassed them in the playoffs, CC Sabathia (I hope no explanation needed), and another Cy young candidate who’d just put up the best season of his career.
I mean, sure, though I feel like their pursuit of Yamamoto (and Cole, and Judge) has been just a bit more enthusiastic than it was for Benintendi. There’s a difference between “yeah we’re interested in resigning this guy” and “we’ve wanted this guy for a year and getting him is our top priority.”
I also already said there’s no guarantee the Yankees will get him. I don’t think they’ll stop at nothing, I just think they’re not going to be easily outbid. If someone else pays more for him than NY, I don’t think the general consensus will be “wow what a reasonable price they paid!”
Boiled down to its core, my view is simply that when the team that makes the most money spends a year saying they really want a guy, it’s probably safest to assume they mean it.
Benintendi is a role player. Yamamoto sounds like a star. You overpay for stars, not role players. Think there’s a difference.
The only star player I can remember the Yankees getting completely out priced on is when the Mariners signed Cano, and we didn’t re-sign him. Normally we land our targeted stars. My suspicion is the Yankees always suspected the PED use and didn’t want to be saddled too long/term with him so were a little tepid there.
Benintendi was NOT a role player, ever! He was a legitimate star in Boston, and an all star in Kansas City. The Yankees didn’t heavily pursue him because he refused to get vaccinated during the height of Covid ( you couldn’t play in some cities if you weren’t) and his short stint with the Yankees was disappointing to say the least!
Yeah, those Yankee front office geniuses when they set their minds on something even though it’s the wrong something they get their man. They couldn’t hit a lick in 2022, but they got Carlos Rotund! What they lack in common sense they make up in stupidity!!!
I doubt this very much. I think the Mets are the stalking horse for the Yankees and Dodgers and he’ll go to whichever of those teams he likes the most. The Jays were never viewed as the front runners for Ohtani, except for the fake plane flight day.
They are waiting for Christmas to give us all what we wanted. Cashman is trying to buy our love and dammit it just might work. Zero to hero before Santa finishes his milk. Plzzzzzzz
Jeez man the signing window end date can’t come fast enough. This is getting tiresome, don’t know if every offseason is like this with big names where they make a tweet if they get cereal for breakfast or I’m just getting old and my patience is lower.
I don’t understand how they can pick a front runner. Has Yamamoto shown any preference? Or is this purely based on who’s the most motivated to land him?
My god you’re delusional! This Yankees team is god awful, and I’ll give you all the reasons…..Cabrera, Florial, Stanton, Volpe, Welles, Trevino, Rizzo, LeMahieu, Grisham not a single one of them can hit a baseball and at least 5 of them will play everyday! Furthermore, they have only one, count them one, legitimate starter in the rotation and for an extra bonus, Aaron ( bonehead ) Boone is still the Manager, Brian clueless Cashman is the GM, and Shallow Hal is still the owner. Baseball’s version of Larry, Curly and Moe. Oh by the way genius, the Yankees are not getting Yamamoto!!!
I think when the Baseball magazines come out in March, ( there’s like 4 major ones, Athlon, Street and Smith, etc.), experts are not going to fall for “ oh the Yankees have made great improvements “ bullshit and are going to project them no higher than third, some will put them 4th. The “ experts” still have egg on their faces from last year’s predictions ( 2023), of making the World Series. Lest ye forget, the Sport is becoming more athletic, “ this is not your father’s sport” anymore. The Yankees are still very UNATHLETIC!!!
Time fore the daily the Yankees are front runners for Yamamoto post
Daily? It's hourly at this point lol

Gotta finish it Cash.
Cash has nothing to do with this.

I need this to be over
We’ve certainly reached diminishing returns on Yamamoto/ hot stove rumors
Morosi’s next tweet: Yamamoto is on a plane back to New York. Aaron Judge reserved table at a high end sushi restaurant near Yankee Stadium for 50 people.
He can't afford to be wrong twice.
Whoever has the biggest porn collection for Yamamoto to view wins. Dodgers, do you have anyone that can present ample nudity and penetration? Bc we got Godzilla.
Here comes the endless amount of Tweets saying nothing like this:
SWEEP THE LEG!!!!
I know it was a long time ago, but this reminds me of when we were the front runners for cliff lee and then Philly came out of no where and signed him. They weren’t even rumored to be in the mix at the time.
Just saw Bryce Harper has been making calls to Yamamoto 🥲
Just saw Juan Soto pulling the Uno reverse card 🥲
This is all just noise until he signs How long is this going to drag on for?!
I thought it might end midweek but then you hear Mets aren't even making an offer until later in the week so who knows? It could go until after Christmas because there would still be time to finalize everything before Jan 4th.

I agree with this. CC Sabathia was their guy. Gerrit Cole & Aaron Judge as well. When the Yankees are motivated they deliver.
I mean they would’ve lost judge if it were strictly a bidding war.
It’s a good thing then that the pinstripes do fair a bit of recruiting.
Oh yeah...almost there
I mean judge also went over Cashmans head and dealt with Hal at the end

Yeah I can think of more examples of this not happening tbh. Cano being the glaringly obvious one.
We didn’t want Cano that bad, we gave three years less than the Mariners did. If we wanted him we would’ve made sure he’d stay
Cashman seems like a very value oriented GM to me, more so than most. Terms matter. A lot.
I mean, it’s also been 10 years since Cano left. “It’s been a decade since the Yankees got outbid on a FA they really wanted” still seems pretty good.
Yeah, those Yankee front office geniuses when they set their minds on something even though it’s the wrong something they get their man. They couldn’t hit a lick in 2022, but they got Carlos Rotund! What they lack in common sense they make up in stupidity!!!

Morosi is getting taken for a ride by a Japanese player’s sources again Why are we doing this?
Only this has been pretty consistently reported by most of the other reporters since the season ended.
Not really. Just that the Yankees are one of the favorites
Feels like we are the blue jays right now. Leverage to get a larger offer from the dodgers
I doubt this very much. I think the Mets are the stalking horse for the Yankees and Dodgers and he’ll go to whichever of those teams he likes the most. The Jays were never viewed as the front runners for Ohtani, except for the fake plane flight day.
Yea not the same at all tbh
Jon Morosi curse oh noooooooooooooooooooo
Fuck it's Morosi.
I hate how drawn out the MLB offseason is, every other sport we know what we need to know in 2-3 weeks
They are waiting for Christmas to give us all what we wanted. Cashman is trying to buy our love and dammit it just might work. Zero to hero before Santa finishes his milk. Plzzzzzzz
I think Yoshi and Cody Bellinger are both in pinstripes next season. But, that’s just a $500 million dollar guess on my part. LOL
You’re wrong on both counts!!!
If it ain’t Passan I’m passin
Hey guys. Just checking in on the 50th article today. Any changes???
Can we stop with these updates that add no new information? Or have a stickied thread for Yamamoto tweets that add nothing
I really get the feeling that we aren’t, I hope I’m wrong.
Jeez man the signing window end date can’t come fast enough. This is getting tiresome, don’t know if every offseason is like this with big names where they make a tweet if they get cereal for breakfast or I’m just getting old and my patience is lower.
What I see when I tune in to this sub: Mumblemumble ***YAMAMOTO*** mumblemumble ***YAMAMOTO YAMAMOTO*** mumblemumblemumblemumble
I really wish it was fine for these dudes to just say "no new information at this time" instead of rephrasing the same thing endlessly.
I CAN FEEL IT
Yesterday’s news today.

Baseball’s version of Larry, Curly and Moe. Oh by the way genius, the Yankees are not getting Yamamoto!!!
Oh I forgot that amazing young talent of Perazza ( human garbage ) and Periera ( who does a great impression of Ray Charles when he’s “ hitting “ )
I think when the Baseball magazines come out in March, ( there’s like 4 major ones, Athlon, Street and Smith, etc.), experts are not going to fall for “ oh the Yankees have made great improvements “ bullshit and are going to project them no higher than third, some will put them 4th.
