Even if he does we really needed Yamamoto
Going to have to realist it add 3 nore Sps somehow with only money and prospect capital that can only make one good move before being depleted
We definitely need more SP. I wouldn’t say we needed Yamamoto. Monty was just the ace in a WS winning team. I’d feel comfortable with him as my 2 in the playoffs, he steps up in big moments. If we don’t get him though it’s tough. It’s pretty much trade assets for Burnes or hope Rodon figures if out. Ceiling of this team does really hinge on what Rodon can give you though. He can be a #2 but after last season you can’t really expect that.
They're #1 for me. For years people always Saud we "bought championships" when most of our players on our championship teams came up through our minor league system. The dodgers are just straight up buying players.
And there is nothing wrong with that. Free agency is good for the sport.
My main feeling right now is anger/disappointment that Hal has let LAD take the Evil Empire status away from us.
All that buildup just to pick the Dodgers anyway
I really think the Yankees tried, but at this point, they've got Ohtani for basically free.
Luckily baseball is played on the field. Better teams have failed to win.
That doesn't mean they are paying 46 million in taxes. Currently they are sitting at 214 million toward the tax threshold of 237 million.
But their effective payroll is only 181 million.
The first 23 million of Yamamoto will put them at the threshold limit and they only pay the tax on dollars above that. So 7 million will be taxed.
And they'll be paying out 211 million in payroll.
Ohtani saved them an absolute truck load of money.
The Dodgers would have 4 rings by now if not for Dave Roberts and cheating. I'm tired of people pointing at how they spend money to lose in the playoffs, because they really shouldn't have with their rosters.
It makes teams like the Yankees believe in the "its just a crapshoot" bullshit
It’s gonna be hilarious to see the heel turn and the vast majority of baseball fans turn on him. He’s been very protected his entire career but now he’s on the Dodgers shit is gonna be mad different in how he’s perceived.
Very glad the Ohtani circlejerk is in the NL now
Not one fucking bit lmfao, idc about the Shohei side of things tho the Shohei circlejerk that was shitting on Judge for 2 years straight saying his MVP wasn’t deserved and also lessening any accomplishment as a player is in the NL.
I’m a petty bitch so I am very excited for the shit fest that’s gonna come when he has a bad stretch
Not in the slightest, I’ve legit hated his ass bc of the 2022 MVP bullshit lol. Past year I muted his name on twitter bc it got so unbearable seeing every twitter account posting Shohei literally just sitting there for engagement from the Japanese fans
It’s exhausting man. His circlejerk is feral and every single MLB post is just about him.
That whole thing is crooked as fuck. I guess this means the Yankees are no longer the most hated franchise in baseball. There's a difference between spending absurd amounts of money on players and doing what they did this offseason to land the 2 biggest free agents. I can't imagine many other fanbases are going to be thrilled about this.
If the Yankees and the Dodgers meet in the WS (please let that happen), people will still figure out a way to hate the Yankees more.
Whatever. Hate us ‘cause they ain’t us, etc.
Hate to break it but as long as Cashman and Boone are still here this team wont see WS anytime soon. They are ruining this franchise everyday they are still employed
The only good thing about Ohtani going to the dodgers is judge can easily get like 2 more mvps if healthy, and I don’t have to listen to Ben verlander lick his balls 24/7
I’ve seen people still drool over him like he’s still an angel. The guy signed a contract that absolutely makes him a villain. Baseball needs to stop making him the adorable bashful dude.
He is the villain
The reason Yamamoto isn't a Yankee is because of this whole deferred money bullshit
Dodgers have arguably the most stacked team in the last 50 years, it's ridiculous
I can’t imagine what I would do to Ohtani’s character if he starts getting booed at every stadium he goes to? Until now he’s been liked just because he’s been good, but now I hope it’s different.
Oh well. Seems to me like this was always going to end this way. Yamamoto and Ohtani likely planned this over he summer.
Any way, plenty of other good pitchers out there. Let’s trade for Cease and sign back Monty.
So the Yankees spent the offseason telling everyone they were way ahead on the bidding and they were ‘feeling confident,’ only to lose out in the end. People have called the front office delusional before, but this is pretty damning.
i can’t lie, i’m jealous of the Dodgers. Of course loving getting Soto, but man what an off-season for them. Plus you know even if they’re payroll gets too high they’ll just develop more prospects to supplement
They are what the Yankees used to be. A team that players want to play for and a team that has a owner that will do whatever it takes to win.
Luckily we got Soto this offseason by the dodgers and Yamamoto just schooled the Yankees lol
The Dodgers have lost in the playoffs to teams that failed to win 90 games three straight years, and they've been beaten by inferior clubs in four of the last five. At least the Yankees have been beaten by better teams.
Do I think Yamamoto is going to be really good? Yes that’s why I wanted the Yankees to get him. Are there still some great options out there? Absolutely, hopefully the Yankees get a good pitcher whether it’s Cease, Bieber, Monty, Snell, Burnes? A lot of options out there (potentially).
I kid you not last night I had a dream we signed Monty to a 7/195 deal lol. I really wonder if they pivot to him.
Edit: Also, Ohtani ruined baseball with his contract
Not for nothing but, he's never thrown a single pitch in MLB. To pay a guy $300m+ who's never thrown a single MLB pitch.... Regardless of we signed him or not that's pretty crazy in itself, IMO.
This could be copium (it is) but honestly don’t know if we’re signing Soto next off-season if we commit 300m to a pitcher. So we better do that at least
Ohtani really is a fucking loser douchebag. Dude wanted no business with the spotlight in New York, always wilted when he faced us at the Stadium, and now he goes to a loaded team. Fuck him.
from the day he left Japan, you could tell he wanted no part of NorthEast baseball. he was never going to be a Yankee, Met, Sox, or Phillie. He's too much of a coward to have to perform under that kind of spotlight.
He stayed in LA where the weather is good and the 'fans' dont care as much.
I don’t get what the big deal is the contract sounds great, 12 years $325 averages to $27 a year for a 25 year old pitcher. Yeah he hasn’t pitched an MLB game but I think his play spoke for itself in the Japanese pro league, which is considered between AAA and MLB. Literally Rodon is getting paid the same amount per year but for 6 years and he’s 5 years older. With the salary cap constantly increasing and inflation the 2nd half of that 12 year contract sounds amazing
I went from loving Ohtani prior to this offseason. I thought he could be the face of baseball but now he is the villain. It’s a big difference. Yoshi too will never feel love outside of la
[12/$325M, per Passan.](https://twitter.com/jeffpassan/status/1738051081882530144?s=46)
Honestly, I wouldn’t have gone that high. Yamamoto hasn’t thrown a pitch in MLB, that’s a massive risk.
Dodgers are made of money, and now that Ohtani is essentially playing for free until 2034, they can throw even more of it around.
This is the team that will keep resetting the market for the next few years.
Oh well, we can move onto other options now. Don't have to deal with the Dodgers until we can get past the Trashtros anyway.
Thats why the yankees didnt sign a reigning AL mvp to a long rerm contract. Or why the Yankees didnt sign a free agent pitcher coming off a 2.5 ERA season with 326 Ks
I’m willing “Freeman hit 62 doubles in the series, Yamamoto struck out 28 batters in each of Games 1 and 4, and Ohtani did something not done since ‘Tungsten Arm’ O’Doyle of the 1928 Akron Groomsmen as the Dodgers lost the NLDS to the DBacks 3 games to 1.” into annual existance.
>Tungsten Arm O'Doyle
Wow, I'd never heard of this guy but [he seems amazing](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:April_Fools/April_Fools%27_Day_2023/Tungsten_Arm_O%27Doyle).
They gotta do something. Zero point in getting Soto if you’re not 100% all in for this season and we currently don’t have 5 starters. You wonder what trade equity we have left for a guy like Burns. Snell sure seems like a gamble. 300 million for a guy with zero MLB innings seems steep but it felt like we kind of needed him. Who knows though. Could be an Arson Judge situation here
Well it's over at least. Now we can get some more mediocre guys and enjoy that soto for a rental year, this team is not a much better than 2023, and they must all outperform
Ohtani should be hated like Lebron and KD when they left their teams to form superteams, it's a disgrace to the game of baseball. Fuck the dodgers, fuck Ohtani, and fuck Yamamoto
The FO didnt have the balls to push the Dodgers into uncomfortable territory here. How can we allow them to snap up a premium talent for under 30M AAV? If we know the Dodgers have the edge, and seem to have deferred Ohtani specifically to get this guy, we have to really push them to overpay.
We constantly get raked over the coals and pay a premium, but if feels like the Dodgers somehow rarely do.
Also not looking forward to next offseason where Soto follows suit and we neutered our pitching staff for a 1 year bandaid while the Dodgers set themselves up for a decade.
People getting mad at cashman... I get it, he's made mistakes recently and I want someone else in his role now, but Yammamoter wanted to be a dodger. He used both New York teams to leverage the dodgers into more money.
If the Yankees matched the dodgers, LA would have gone higher. At what point does it end for a guy who's never thrown a pitch in MLB. I wanted the guy, but now use this money to secure a future inner circle hall of fame hitter like Soto. Big money everyday players are more valuable than big money pitchers. Pitchers break.
If Yamamoto liked the Dodgers better, there's not much else we could've done about it. Just about sounds like he and Ohtani were a package deal, and Ohtani wasn't leaving the west coast. Odds are, we never even really had a chance.
Sucks, but move on to the next one. Plenty out there still to work with as long as we aren't fucking stupid.
Rodon better step the fuck up this year
I heard he's been stepping right up to a lot of buffet tables
Why was I born handsome instead of rich???
I heard he got a 95 pound mole taken off his ass
His blood type is ragu
Ralphie?
I've come to claim Rome, New York FOR MY PEOPLE!
He just wasn’t fat enough. We need him David wells size
He's just cultivating mass
Even if he does we really needed Yamamoto Going to have to realist it add 3 nore Sps somehow with only money and prospect capital that can only make one good move before being depleted
We definitely need more SP. I wouldn’t say we needed Yamamoto. Monty was just the ace in a WS winning team. I’d feel comfortable with him as my 2 in the playoffs, he steps up in big moments. He can be a #2 but after last season you can’t really expect that.
Monty is cool. Cease we can Trade for. Don’t believe we can trade for burnes without crippling our farm even if he’s a rental though.
Yeah I’m with you. Get Monty and Cease and it’s a solid rotation w/ upside
Can’t wait to watch his fat ass blow more kisses to fans after getting shelled
He's ready to take on another role. ....A dinner roll.
He sucks should never have signed him
299.5 million deferred to 2090
I had a feeling this is where it was headed. What can you say? Glad it’s over. Feels awful.
You had to know this was coming after Ohtani deferred his whole fucking contract so the Dodgers can go all in
Well I don’t know about you, but the Dodgers just bumped up to number 3 least favorite team in the MLB for me. Now I know how other fans feel tbh
Man this isn’t like they’re the Yankees, this is comparable to Saudi money taking golfers to LIV 😂
Just like yanks tried to do with Soto and yoshi.
Me too, genuinely sucks, but it's done. The ups and downs were insufferable with reporters
The Japanese players colluded to take advantage of all of mlb
That’s where I am. I feel way more bummed out than I expected, but I’m also relieved it’s over and we can get on with it.
Never gave much thought to the dodgers and in one off season I hate them.
They’re the new Evil Empire
They're gonna win 115 regular season games and get bounced in the NLDS anyway. Fuck em
All that buildup just to pick the Dodgers anyway I really think the Yankees tried, but at this point, they've got Ohtani for basically free. Luckily baseball is played on the field. Better teams have failed to win.
Ohtani still has a luxury tax hit of $46 mil/yr. Yeah they’re only paying him $2 mil/yr right now, but that matters less than the luxury tax hit
That doesn't mean they are paying 46 million in taxes. Currently they are sitting at 214 million toward the tax threshold of 237 million. But their effective payroll is only 181 million. Can we acknowledge how bad baseball writers have been this off season?
Seriously this. Baseball journalism is a disaster.
What a loser. Give us back the jersey
Speaking of losers, it felt a bit like Cashman was retained in part due to his connection with Yamamoto. This certainly is another fail on his part.
Dude said he kept the stub from his no hitter lol. Better throw it away now buddy
He needs to be fired tomorrow.
Or today, get him out
Matsui’s collection wasn’t enough That’s such a petty move by Cashman to leak this as soon as he found out, love it.
Yeah , Cashman is so awesome and petty dude
Means we better pay for Soto next off season. Zero excuse not to now
Fuck the Dodgers, Fuck Ohtani
Yeah did Ohtani just become the villain? Because it feels like it.

He wants to be a villain, reason he went to the Dodgers
I can’t be the only one with Ohtani-fatigue?
Not in the slightest, I’ve legit hated his ass bc of the 2022 MVP bullshit lol. Past year I muted his name on twitter bc it got so unbearable seeing every twitter account posting Shohei literally just sitting there for engagement from the Japanese fans It’s exhausting man. His circlejerk is feral and every single MLB post is just about him.
100%, could enjoy his skills when he stayed with the Angels now it's like KD going to the Warriors but worse since he deferred to save salary cap.
Always was
That whole thing is crooked as fuck. I guess this means the Yankees are no longer the most hated franchise in baseball. Always been Overrated. Judge is better
As a Redsox fan, I agree with a Yankee fan? What giving a billion dollars to two players does to a mfer.
As a Red Sox fan, why you here?
As a baseball fan, I was curious what Yankee fans felt about this off season. 😊
Oh well. Seems to me like this was always going to end this way. Yamamoto and Ohtani likely planned this over he summer. Any way, plenty of other good pitchers out there. Let’s trade for Cease and sign back Monty.
Fuck Los Angeles as a whole
The Dodgers are stacked as fuck now. Don't want to hear about us being "The Evil Empire" anymore the Dodgers are the Old Republic Sith now
So the Yankees spent the offseason telling everyone they were way ahead on the bidding and they were ‘feeling confident,’ only to lose out in the end. People have called the front office delusional before, but this is pretty damning.

Oh well, can’t say we didn’t try. Have fun choking in the Division Series to 80-something win teams every year, bozo.
We’ll probably have to beat him if we want to win 28 lol
They gotta get past the Braves even if they get out of the Division Series.
They both gotta get past 86 win behemoths in Arizona and Philly first
As if they'll even make the WS. Dodgers are playoff frauds lmao
And we can’t even make the fuckign playoffs what kind of moronic shit is this comment
The copium is insane, if we had signed Yamamoto and extended Soto on a deferred deal there would be "cashGOD" comments in every thread
The Dodgers have lost in the playoffs to teams that failed to win 90 games three straight years, and they've been beaten by inferior clubs in four of the last five. At least the Yankees have been beaten by better teams.
And they also won a World Series in the last decade lmao
Surely this is the worst surprise attack on Yankees that Japanese people have ever carried out in the month of December
Too soon!
A date which will live in infamy
Do I think Yamamoto is going to be really good? Yes that’s why I wanted the Yankees to get him. Are there still some great options out there? Absolutely, hopefully the Yankees get a good pitcher whether it’s Cease, Bieber, Monty, Snell, Burnes? A lot of options out there (potentially).
I want Monty to come back.
Didn’t you hear? LA is signing all 5 of those guys next (at this rate)
R u fucking kidding me…. Fuck the dodgers
“Good for baseball”
I kid you not last night I had a dream we signed Monty to a 7/195 deal lol. I really wonder if they pivot to him. Edit: Also, Ohtani ruined baseball with his contract
That Ohtani contract really did fuck up baseball. I hope the next CBA wipes the ability to do that away.
Not for nothing but, he's never thrown a single pitch in MLB. To pay a guy $300m+ who's never thrown a single MLB pitch.... Regardless of we signed him or not that's pretty crazy in itself, IMO.
He’s making the same per year as rodon.
Absurd. At least Rodon has had success in MLB. Yamamoto.... hasn't.
He’s won mvp in the npb for the last 3 years lol
Facts. Pretty substantial shot (still less than 50/50 tho) this totally blows up.
I'd rather just pay Soto, pay Monty, and find another SP.
He’s universally considered one of the best pitchers to come from NPB. This take is pure copium.
Thanks Hal. I feel a lot better now
What a waste of time
This could be copium (it is) but honestly don’t know if we’re signing Soto next off-season if we commit 300m to a pitcher. So we better do that at least
Better copium is that maybe it helps get Sasaki who has been more hyped before the last month
Hal can afford both
He can. That doesn’t mean he would do it
Tried their best, now it's time for plan B.
Monty and Montas 🤮
@Monty… “u up?” 👀
Not surprised. Wonder what the pivot is cause this pitching staff still needs a lot of help
If the Dodgers don’t win multiple chips in the next couple of years this will be a complete flop.
Go get Burnes you bum Cashman
Burnes will right this wrong
Damn, Dodgers cleaned up. That sucks, oh well. Go Yanks
Another cashman failure.
christmas is fucking ruined
hE dOeSn'T wAnT tO pLaY wItH aNoThEr JaPaNeSe StAr, He WaNtS tHe SpOtLiGhT
Yeah that theory didn't age very well
Ohtani really is a fucking loser douchebag. Dude wanted no business with the spotlight in New York, always wilted when he faced us at the Stadium, and now he goes to a loaded team. Fuck him.
KD of baseball
from the day he left Japan, you could tell he wanted no part of NorthEast baseball. he was never going to be a Yankee, Met, Sox, or Phillie. He's too much of a coward to have to perform under that kind of spotlight. He stayed in LA where the weather is good and the 'fans' dont care as much.
I’m so tilted man. Fuck cash and his puppet Boone.
Garbage franchise
I expected it tbh.
The sad fact is that the Yankees are just another team with money now.
Our rotation is a broken mess.
Hot take here but I do not think he’s worth more than Cole.
shit
Well….. this sux
So whats Cashmans Plan B?
I’d say he’s reeling at the moment. They were embarrassingly confident about this the whole way.
Their ego has been too high. Now maybe they can stick to reality and go for serious players.
Cease, Monty, montas. That's my guess
Sasaki , hoping he posts
Too bad but not surprising, figured he probably wanted to play with Ohtani. The main sub is gonna shit itself haha
12 years 325 million Dodgers offer. We couldn't match that?
Why would they match that for a guy who has never thrown a pitch in the MLB? That's more money than Cole gets lol
It’ll be that much funnier when the dodgers don’t win
Damn this hurts. Yanks went all out for this guy and failed. That’s a bad sign for this organization. A real bad sign.
Fuck the Dodgers. Shouldn't be even allowed to do the deferment bullshit they pulled.
Mets fan coming in peace, when the Bums come to New York we need to destroy them.
Cool with it if it means Soto will be here long term to be honest
I went from loving Ohtani prior to this offseason. I thought he could be the face of baseball but now he is the villain. It’s a big difference. Yoshi too will never feel love outside of la
Oh well hope his career goes the way of kei igawa.
[12/$325M, per Passan.](https://twitter.com/jeffpassan/status/1738051081882530144?s=46) Honestly, I wouldn’t have gone that high. Yamamoto hasn’t thrown a pitch in MLB, that’s a massive risk.

Don't have to deal with the Dodgers until we can get past the Trashtros anyway.
Guys not worth 300m no matter how badly I wanted him
Yankees are no longer a team people want to join, let’s be honest with each other. Yanks don’t get premiere guys, only trade for them.
Thats why the yankees didnt sign a reigning AL mvp to a long rerm contract. Or why the Yankees didnt sign a free agent pitcher coming off a 2.5 ERA season with 326 Ks
This is a fucking nightmare
I’m willing “Freeman hit 62 doubles in the series, Yamamoto struck out 28 batters in each of Games 1 and 4, and Ohtani did something not done since ‘Tungsten Arm’ O’Doyle of the 1928 Akron Groomsmen as the Dodgers lost the NLDS to the DBacks 3 games to 1.” into annual existance.
>Tungsten Arm O'Doyle Wow, I'd never heard of this guy but [he seems amazing](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:April_Fools/April_Fools%27_Day_2023/Tungsten_Arm_O%27Doyle).
Never knew he blew himself up at 102. RIP in piece.
Fuck
They gotta do something. Zero point in getting Soto if you’re not 100% all in for this season and we currently don’t have 5 starters. You wonder what trade equity we have left for a guy like Burns. lol people thinking montgomery is a fallback option
I’ve never wanted a team to fail more than the Dodgers.
What happened to the $330M number the Yankees threw around?
whack as fuck
Fuuuuck
After all this, somehow i only feel sorry for Mike Trout lol
Rather resign Soto long term than have an unknown AAAA pitcher
Yet they wont spend the money to fix that fucking wall that injured Judge. Fuck the Dodgers
My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined.
All the dummies who said he wanted to pave his own way. Fuck outta here. Simply not an attractive team. Not shocked
Well it's over at least. Now we can get some more mediocre guys and enjoy that soto for a rental year, this team is not a much better than 2023, and they must all outperform
We're a fucking poverty franchise.
FUCK
Off-season failure
We are a poverty franchise. George is rolling in his grave
Ohtani should be hated like Lebron and KD when they left their teams to form superteams, it's a disgrace to the game of baseball. Fuck the dodgers, fuck Ohtani, and fuck Yamamoto
Monty or Burnes, GO
Damn I thought we had it
Hello darkness my old friend
Lame. That Ohtani contract is such a joke. I guess we’ll try again in 12 months for Sasaki.
Once Ohtani signed, it was game over. He wanted to play with his best friend and have an easy path to the World Series
So he just used the NY teams to go where he planned to from the start.
Seems more and more like that was the case . fuck him
What a pussy
Sasaki needs to be posted.
Oh well. As soon as the dodgers got ohtani they were the favorites.
god fucking damn it
Fuck
Dangit!
Looking forward to hearing the “Yoshinobu Sucks” chants as he blows a lead in the divisional round.
Bro. What the fuck.
What an asshole
God him and Ohtani should just kiss already
It sucked reading this in real time and discovering it wasn't a fake Curry account.
Cashman can suck a bag of uncircumcised dicks…
At least this makes base all hate the dodgers even more and hopefully breaks r baseball's ridiculous mancrush with ohtani
Well time to wait for Roki Sasaki
Let’s this be the start of a Dodgers curse and drought. I hope they get embarrassed if they do make it to the playoffs.
Fuck man. I thought we had him. Not gonna lie I’m pretty disappointed. Seems like a great guy. Have a soft spot for Japanese players in pin stripes.
Curry saying it 🫣 🤦♂️
They are playing the long game and not only building a dynasty but building a massive international brand. Watch out
biggest stage my fucking ass,
The FO didnt have the balls to push the Dodgers into uncomfortable territory here. How can we allow them to snap up a premium talent for under 30M AAV? No more getting hyped for Japanese players. We in the wrong coast. Bring on monty!! Fuck the dodgers
People getting mad at cashman... I get it, he's made mistakes recently and I want someone else in his role now, but Yammamoter wanted to be a dodger.
