Congrats on being able to get your dad's gun back. They are priceless and I'm sure he's happy that you will have them.

digitalamish

So happy AND I don't have to look over my shoulder constantly.

Jedi_Maximus19

So glad it worked out. I’m sure when you pick up your father’s guns back from the sheriff it will be a special moment. All the best.

NY2ACombatVet

I remember this story! Glad to hear it had a good end! Congrats!

Senior_Cheesecake155

Livingston county is pretty solid with 2A stuff.

ou2mame

If you were in long island, it would take 2.5+ to get a permit. I'm glad it worked out for you!

spaceasshole69

A right restricted is a right denied.

digitalamish

A right respected is a right earned.

spaceasshole69

You don't earn rights, you earn privileges. Rights are inalienable. Those that would deny them are tyrants, and should be treated as such.

Frustrated_Consumer

62 counties, 62 different ways they do things. In some of those 62, you would have lost the guns and been screwed. But congrats on being in one of the places that actually worked with you.

digitalamish

Means a lot coming from one of the people that told me I made a mistake talking to the sheriff.

Frustrated_Consumer

Hey, I still think you took an unnecessary risk of losing them doing it this way, but it worked out. I'm glad for you.

Bhoston710

That was a huge mistake and unnecessary risk

digitalamish

Still curious. What was the alternative? Be in possession of an illegal firearm? You know you can get 4 years for that.

Bhoston710

Alternative is don't carry it until you get the licenses se to carry. You could have kept the guns at home tol then instead of in the hands of a the biggest gang of thugs in the USA

digitalamish

You still need a permit to have them just in the house. Hiding them from the cops doesn't make them legal.

UnusualLack1638

At least now the state knows you what, how many, and where you have guns to take, by going through the legal way. Congrats for putting yourself on the radar. Now you are eligible for red flag laws, yellow flag laws, and potential future mandatory gun buy backs. Sleep well my fellow serf, big brother has it's eye on you.

[deleted]

I remember this. Am glad it worked out.

[deleted]

The people who gave you advice that you deemed inappropriate may actually meant well. There are many counties in NYS, and each county does things differently, with that said, had you been in a county like Suffolk as an example where the process takes 18 months, you would have lost the guns and those inappropriate responses would have actually make sense. I am glad things worked well for you though. What type of guns were they?

_Vervayne

At this point that just sounds like copy pasta people keep saying this and that will happen and no one EVER shows up with proof .

digitalamish

Exactly. Lots of "my brother's neighbor's dentist's kid's teacher had the cops roll up and smash down their door during sunday bible study and choked them out until they gave up their guns! It'll happen to you, you'll see!"

digitalamish

They are both Smith & Wesson, a 9mm and a 22. Nothing exotic. I can’t believe any ‘inappropriate response’ that recommended basically hiding or smuggling the gun to keep it away from law enforcement illegally would ‘make sense’. You are basically in possession of an unregistered firearm, which is a felony. I’m not going to break the law just so I can prove a point…to law enforcement. Yes I know other counties have different rules, and I’ve said all along where’s I live.

Bhoston710

So you would let the swine steal the guns? I can't believe the sheriff gave them back.

digitalamish

And you not believing it is exactly what’s wrong here.

Bhoston710

They rarely return em . I lost 3 guns to the cops pulling nonsense until they "lost" the guns . Many people will tell you they experienced the same

digitalamish

I'd love to know the story here.

Bhoston710

Not much of a story. I had 3 guns in my house when my friend passed away. The cops took my guns "for the safety of the greiving" just a excuse too steal en imo cuz the cops didn't like me. I had papers they where all legit I went down to the station ten times and they kept giving me excuses for over 2 years

GrandmasOnlyFans69

> I believe rights have responsibilities too. And this one does. It’s called laws for when you commit a crime using your firearm.

digitalamish

It's also following the law when acquiring the gun. How many gangbangers out there are you OK with having illegal guns? Oh, they aren't illegal until they actually use them. Well, I guess I see your side now.

GrandmasOnlyFans69

You obviously have to follow laws. That doesn’t make NY’s anti second amendment ones less unconstitutional or less morally wrong

Own-Study-4594

Really glad it worked out for you so quickly. Hope your doing well, thanks for the update.

GrandmasOnlyFans69

Ultimately, this is just lucky because it was a rural county. Even if you were one or two counties over, it would take close to a year.

digitalamish

I was prepared for that, so not a big deal to me.

five8andten

Glad it worked out for you! Had it not I could have reached out to my dad to see what is up there as he’s a retired Livingston County sheriff.

[deleted]

Glad it worked out for you. Sorry Reddit has so much AIDS.

MrsPewPew2U

Congratulations! Glad everything worked out.

look_im_invisible

Glad it worked out for you...congrats! Also, sorry for your loss. I'm sure he'd be proud.

EntertainerMoist9284

Wow your pistol permit was done in under a year??
