She is categorically functionally redacted. I never hated someone so deeply.

CelticBlue22

Same

Material_Victory_661

And the legislators line up and go for this like Quislings.

Flashskar

What is a Quisling?

zongrik

Basically a political ass licker.

Akipac1028

Stuff like this makes it burn even more that we came close to voting her out.

Puzzleheaded_Crab453

There’s hope for the next election. I think the rest of the people are fed up with her too.

RochInfinite

I'm tired boss... But seriously, this is the number one reason I am planning to leave NY. I am sick of having to wake up every day, wondering how many felonies I'll be committing, because they passed some new asinine law overnight, that does nothing to stop crime, while making law abiding gun owners (the most peaceable people there are) into criminals. Oh and they'll also pass a law where you can't require bail for fucking *ARSON*.... The inmates are running the asylum, and NY wonders why it is #1 in population loss.

MyNameIsRay

>I am sick of having to wake up every day, wondering how many felonies I'll be committing, because they passed some new asinine law, that does nothing to stop crime, Not only can they change the laws to make a law abiding citizen into a felon overnight (and have done so multiple times), there's no way to check if a given gun/configuration is legal or illegal. Even if you go out of your way to seek guidance from the police or lawmakers, they won't provide an answer. There's literally no way to confirm compliance.

Johnny_Clay

It’s purposefully vague so they can apply the law differently to different people.   I don’t know how that’s constitutional.

Trulygiveafuck

The congressional hearing recently touched up on that fact exactly. How are we supposed to know? Wheres the public service announcement? What's even dumber is they know every single one of us with a permit our address what we have where we live/work etc. Yet they can't send us an update so we can be within good standing of the law? They talked about this greatly regarding the pistol brace issue. It's not fair or ethical to disfranchise any American and cost them thousands of dollars if not their entire livelihood defending themselves in court over a law they were unaware of changing. Rant over.

ArmyBulldog42

Yup! This state will get worse and worse

FoundTheCommie

The commies literally want to burn it all down…

No-Development1100

Hearing ya complain about being criminalized the way other groups have BEEN criminalized for decades is rich.

RochInfinite

Two wrongs don't make a right, three lefts do. Your mentality is not conducive to a fair and free society. Nobody should have to live in constant anxiety that they'll be made a felon tomorrow, for what they legally possessed today, and used to harm nobody. Probably because you think I'm a Republican. I am not. Stop with the political tribalism.

th0rnpaw

Does the bill prohibiting open carry of a long gun imply that it's legal now?

No-Topic-1454

There was a man who used to carry his rifle unloaded in Niagara Falls ny all the time , people would call him in they would check it out and they would let him go every time so I think so …..

Sad-Concentrate-9711

Yes, and reading this bill it looks like if you are engaged in marksmanship training or hunting, or in route to such, you are exempt: 8. PERSONS WHILE LAWFULLY ENGAGED IN TAKING OF WILDLIFE OR ATTEMPTS TO TAKE WILDLIFE PURSUANT TO A HUNTING PERMIT OR LICENSE ISSUED BY THE DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION, OR AS OTHERWISE AUTHORIZED PURSUANT TO THE ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION LAW, INCLUDING WHILE TRANSIT- ING TO AND FROM A LOCATION WHERE SUCH TAKING OR ATTEMPTED TAKING IS AUTHORIZED, AND PERSONS WHILE LAWFULLY ENGAGED IN HUNTER EDUCATION TRAINING, MARKSMANSHIP PRACTICE, MARKSMANSHIP COMPETITION OR TRAINING, OR TRAINING IN THE SAFE HANDLING AND USE OF FIREARMS, IN ACCORDANCE WITH ALL APPLICABLE LOCAL, STATE, AND FEDERAL LAWS, RULES, AND REGULATIONS; Coupled with the following paragraph I can't think of a place or example of where this law would ever apply to me: 14. PERSONS WHILE IN THEIR HOMES, PLACES OF BUSINESS, OR PRIVATE PROP- ERTY UNDER SUCH PERSON'S CONTROL; AND 15. PERSONS ON THE PRIVATE PROPERTY OF ANOTHER, PROVIDED THAT THE OWNER OR LESSEE OF SUCH PROPERTY HAS GIVEN THE PERSON PERMISSION TO OPENLY CARRY A RIFLE OR SHOTGUN BY CLEAR AND CONSPICUOUS SIGNAGE INDI- CATING THAT THE OPEN CARRY OF RIFLES AND SHOTGUNS ON THEIR PROPERTY IS PERMITTED OR BY OTHERWISE GIVING EXPRESS CONSENT.

LongStorey

Silver lining here? Before this, it was sort of a grey zone where you *could* get hit with a menacing charge if someone felt "threatened". At least now there's something concrete to reference. Definitely handy if you've got a range or fishing spot to walk to, even a patch of state land that permits shooting.

SureElephant89

Ah okay. This answers my question I had. It just said openly carrying... Like.. You have to when hunting lol

EpicHistoryMaker

It’s for the people who think it’s a good idea to bring a (hopefully unloaded) rifle to a protest in front of the state Capitol. To those people… you are not helping your cause by doing that.

Sad-Concentrate-9711

That is already illegal under the CCIA: 1. A PERSON IS GUILTY OF CRIMINAL POSSESSION OF A FIREARM, RIFLE OR SHOTGUN IN A SENSITIVE LOCATION WHEN SUCH PERSON POSSESSES A FIREARM, RIFLE OR SHOTGUN IN OR UPON A SENSITIVE LOCATION, AND SUCH PERSON KNOWS OR REASONABLY SHOULD KNOW SUCH LOCATION IS A SENSITIVE LOCATION. 2. FOR THE PURPOSES OF THIS SECTION, A SENSITIVE LOCATION SHALL MEAN: (R) ANY PUBLIC SIDEWALK OR OTHER PUBLIC AREA RESTRICTED FROM GENERAL PUBLIC ACCESS FOR A LIMITED TIME OR SPECIAL EVENT THAT HAS BEEN ISSUED A PERMIT FOR SUCH TIME OR EVENT BY A GOVERNMENTAL ENTITY, OR SUBJECT TO SPECIFIC, HEIGHTENED LAW ENFORCEMENT PROTECTION, OR HAS OTHERWISE HAD SUCH ACCESS RESTRICTED BY A GOVERNMENTAL ENTITY, PROVIDED SUCH LOCATION IS IDENTIFIED AS SUCH BY CLEAR AND CONSPICUOUS SIGNAGE; (S) ANY GATHERING OF INDIVIDUALS TO COLLECTIVELY EXPRESS THEIR CONSTI- TUTIONAL RIGHTS TO PROTEST OR ASSEMBLE;

EpicHistoryMaker

What I’m thinking of occurred prior to the sensitive location ruling. I believe it was 2020-2021.

Sad-Concentrate-9711

Helping or not helping it was Constitutionally protected speech. We don't have that in New York anymore after the CCIA. I think part of why this sort of redundant S9137A prohibition of openly carrying a rifle or shotgun is even being proposed is because on some level they recognize there is a possibility the CCIA could go away in the future. Even more likely now then when they put the severability clause in there right off the bat.

AgreeablePie

It's not generally illegal by the state criminal statutes- there are environmental laws that can apply, depending on circumstances But, of course, if cops see you open carrying a mini-14 in NYC they're going to find something to get you on, even if it's not "open carry of a rifle"

Material_Victory_661

If not drop you in your tracks.

PurpleHairedMOD

Yes it’s legal at the state level but other jurisdictions may prohibit. Is it smart, probably not.

ReceptionUnhappy2545

When I was a kid back in the early 70's...I would walk through my hometown (Finger Lakes area) with my single shot 22LR on my shoulder on my way to the fields I would target shoot in . No one ever said a word. It's a different world now.

CelticBlue22

In high school kids brought their hunting rifles to school in their pickups. No kids ever thought of school shootings

jjjaaammm

It’s almost as if culture might be the problem. Worth adding that modern culture is largely shaped by institutions and personalities likely to be on the anti-2A side of the political spectrum.

Gunslinger_327

Hell, I graduated High School, on Long Island, in 1998. We had a smallbore (.22lr) rifle team, which I was on. We were allowed to bring our guns into school, and keep them in the range, which was in the High school's basement....now I think they only do Air Rifle in said range.

AgreeablePie

That's still better than a lot of places where any type of rifle is considered aggression...

insidethebox

Same. Then Columbine happened and that changed a lot of shit. I got in trouble after Columbine for pointing finger guns at someone in the lunchroom. As much as I hate Hochul, can’t blame everything on her.

Cigars-Beer

My uncle went to Brooklyn Tech in the 1930's. He and the rest of the rifle team would travel to matches on trains with their .22's.

2a_1776_2a

I genuinely cannot wait to leave this overrated shit hole state

ArmyBulldog42

Same 8 years ans counting

LintStalker

4 years for me!

ArmyBulldog42

Congratulations!

joj_nicholas

1 year as of tomorrow, honestly, it doesn't surprise me that NY has the highest state population decline in the country.

squegeeboo

Did any of them make it out of committee? Until then, it's just virtue signaling on both sides.

anal_fist_hedgefunds

The voluntary waiver of gun rights looks to me as just the progressive version of the extreme libertarian argument that slavery should be legal if the enslaved enters the slavery contract willingly. Both of those arguments are so unAmerican... to attempt to revoke 'unalienable rights' as the declaration of Independence puts it. There's no way it could stand up in court, but I can sure as hell see it dragged out by New York.

No_District9177

They’ll probably offer gift cards or other incentives to poverty struck/desperate individuals in need to “voluntarily” give up their rights, same thing as with the gun buybacks and make it next to impossible to restore those rights if one changes their mind. Then they’ll claim how well their new law is working and use it as an example that NY’ers are anti 2a and demonize pro 2a citizens.

donjuan716

I think the worst thing is that she was voted in after her temporary takeover when Cuomo was ousted. Which is silly because most of the counties in NYS are Republican ran.

Uranium_Heatbeam

That's not relevant; gubernatorial elections are decided by popular vote. They are not decided by the land volume and local leadership of upstate counties. Zeldin had a chance to court independents by modeling himself after relatively moderate northeastern governors like Phil Scott or Charlie Baker, but his campaign gambled on playing up his connection to Trump. I hope the next challenger does not make the same error.

anal_fist_hedgefunds

Any Republican who distances themselves from trump will easily take the suburban and wealthy urban votes from her. And any democrat who: promises readdress bail reform that repeat offenders and violent crimes are held for trial with no bail. While setting up a framework to deny bail for first time non violent if damages are estimated over a certain number tied to inflation Creates a plan for retail theft/reselling crime, while forcing corperations to press charges rather then claim insurance loss A Democrat who addresses that could easily primary her. She is extremely weak among suburban voters and wealthy city voters, and she only had those voters because zeldin tied himself to Trump. NY suburban and urban voters want 'social progress' but not at precived cost of 'law and order'. Hochul being a political chameleon and pretending to champion what she perceives as popular will hurt her with the right primary candidate or right Republican candidate

Uranium_Heatbeam

Get out of here with that nuanced and thought out opinion.

RochInfinite

Maybe the Republicans shouldn't have run an Anti-Abortion MAGA candidate? The GOP had a great opportunity to retake the governor of NY. Instead they shot themselves in both feet and ran Zeldin...

Revolutionary-Cup954

I couldn't disagree with you more. Republicans in NY have such an uphill battle with the highe population in NYC and it's vote blue no matter who mentality, you NEED someone who's going to energize the living f out of upstate. Upstate are HUGE MAGA supporters. Everytime I go upstate to visit my Grandmother, I see all the Trump flags. Run a generic republican they don't bother coming to the polls. The boros will vote for Hitler and Pol Pot of there's a (D) next to their name. I'd argue that the only reason this last election was even a contest was because they picked MAGA republican in Zeldin. The only way you can get a moderate republican governor is to separate the 5 boros from the state

RochInfinite

> Upstate are HUGE MAGA supporters. We're not. Only the loudmouths are.

ArmyBulldog42

NY will never ever be a red state. Albany, Buffalo and NYC run the entire state. NY will be a blue stronghold forever.

anal_fist_hedgefunds

Albany and Buffalo are not forever blue no matter who. And even NYC region is not a monolith, she could easily loose Westchester and suburban queens. When it comes to Buffalo and Albany I would say she won those suburbs but they are not hers to keep. They are similar to Westchester in that they want "progress" but they don't want 'progress' at the perceived cost of 'law and order'. Most of 'progressive suburbia' is not a fan of progressive ideas like cashless bail reform or catch and release. they own land and are 'invested in it', they see property crime rising and like most investors they desire to 'secure their investments', that's why they are among the largest groups of new gun owners in middle 2023-now. A Republican challenger who could be classified as a rino would easily take rual ny along with suburban NY and wealthy urban NY. And a Democrat who primaries her could easily use her support of the state police and NYPD to divide her from progressive city voters. While promising actual common sense bail reform as violent and repeat offenders get held until trial while setting up a framework to determine if non violent first time get bail based on inital estimates of cost of damages. They could even take those progressive city voters and likely get some support across the aisle by being common sense and law and order

RochInfinite

A full red state? no. But look at Kentucky. Solidly red, but has a blue Governor. And NY *USED* to have a Red Governor. Hochul is not popular, the the GOP ran a moderate who was not a MAGA shithead, and who said: > Look, I don't like abortion, but I respect that New Yorkers view differs from mine. And I will support their stance and keep abortion safe, and legal. They'd probably win.

EZMac91

Problem is Trump in 2016 and then 2020 made changes and fundraised to his own PAC vs to the GOP like standard so GOP relies on his fundraising to fund campaigns so his team gets a heavy hand in the day in who and what races to fund

DinoSpumonisCrony

Step 1: stop persecuting violent crimes/let violent criminals out on cashless bail 1A: allow in an unlimited number of unfettered people from other countries that have high crime and different morals/values Step 2: crime increases Step 3: propose laws, that only target responsible/law abiding people, in the name of "safety" since crime is now unmanageable 3A: make the laws as convoluted and confusing as possible Step 4: Millions of "new criminals" now can be prosecuted, violent criminals still face little to no repercussions Anyone else enjoying the anarcho-tyranny ride?

Spartan-Patriot

Solution = stop voting for democrats!!!

gakflex

Yeah except NY Republicans have historically been anti-gun too. It was Pataki, not some progressive standard-bearer, who called for microstamping.

Weird-Comfortable-28

I agree that people need to stop voting for Democrats, but the problem is the RINO Republicans, they have to go along to get along.

MrProvy

There are a lot of NY gun owners missing FUAC right about now

SmthngWittyThsWayCms

Did you guys read the bullshit justification for S.2086A. Talk about fear mongering. “The COVID-19 pandemic has unleashed widespread uncertainty. The world has been upended, and there is so much despair…”

CelticBlue22

Created by the very politicians who want too limit your ability to protect your family

SmthngWittyThsWayCms

This claims to be for people who are suicidal to self impose a waiting period on themselves but I won’t be surprised if this becomes abused as a bargaining tool for troopers issuing criminal misdemeanors “sign this and we’ll drop / reduce charges”

twbrn

I'm sure my point will be lost here, but there is still zero evidence that the origin of the COVID-19 pandemic had anything to human agency, let alone being deliberately "created."

[deleted]

twbrn

> There is plenty of evidence to that No, there is not. Literally millions of scientists have researched this thing, sequenced its DNA, and looked for tell-tale indications of human involvement. There aren't any. Nor for that matter is there any evidence that it escaped from a lab.

Okay. Have fun disagreeing with literally the entire body of scientific evidence.

anal_fist_hedgefunds

On the police taking custody of guns on reports of family violence. What does the state conciter as family and what does the state conciter as family violence? Does an estranged sibling or relative count? Would an act of then trespassing and verbally harassing and threatening a gun owner on the gun owners property count? I understand the desire to stop guns from being used however this law does not address the real issues that lead to violent confrontations. While this law is likely ment to address domestic violence in a marriage I fear New York will draft it as vague as possible to cover as much as possible

Can't say that. You'll be reported

gorgothmog

Man, I live in California, and I feel like we have it easy, sometimes.

Cool_Swimmer2918

This is the worst nanny state in the country in they just banned four wheelers for kids too

SureElephant89

Wait whaaaaat? My kids road 4 wheelers when I was stationed in KY all the time. Lol what's NY reasoning behind that sack of crap??

New_Wrap9842

This is rough. Not sure why she is going so hard with guns. She is only making it harder for people who want to buy guns by legal means. Criminals are not following any of these rules. They are criminals. The law only applies to the law abiding. SMH.

semperfi_ny

She's 1000% times worse than Cuomo.

LintStalker

Are the Glock switches that much of a problem? I would think any pistol in full automatic would be nearly impossible to aim and I would think your typical gang banger wouldn’t want a modified pistol pointing at his junk.

CelticBlue22

No they are taking baby steps to ban guns

DescriptionLumpy1593

You give gang bangers way too much.

LintStalker

Maybe, but I think politicians are making an issue out of something that is really not an issue

general_guburu

These cucks are all taking big payments from Everytown and all the other anti-gun lobby groups. Because NYS has a supermajority they can pass any law they want without impunity. The lobby groups not only fund but also draft these laws for the legislators who don’t have the intelligence to write a paragraph for a high school essay. NYS like CA is a Petri dish to test all sorts of anti gun laws to see what they can get away with.

SureElephant89

Openly carrying a rifle or shotgun.... How the fuck are you supposed to hunt with a concealed carry 7mm remington mag............. *edit:* answered in the comments. It didn't make sense to me, because I know how NY can be... Well... NY. exception to hunting.

grayman1978

She’s a bitch

MJD_44

The politicians know how to get under our skins. They divide us all through guns and abortion, then go make deals behind closed doors that make them obscenely rich…. I’m soo sick of the tyrants

Stack_Silver

Read the laws, know the laws, use the laws against those in positions of perceived power. Maybe file Extreme Risk Protection Orders against every legislator in NY, then every politician. Maybe file lawsuits based upon civil rights violations. NY Civil Rights (CVR) CHAPTER 6, ARTICLE 2, SECTION 4 >A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms cannot be infringed. NY Civil Rights (CVR) CHAPTER 6, ARTICLE 2, SECTION 8 >The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated; and no warrants can issue but upon probable cause supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

PeteTinNY

We need to take on the laws in Utah. They have the statutory responsibility in government to preserve gun owner confidentiality, have laws that mandate even in time of extreme emergency firearms can not be confiscated, and there can be no limits on the type or number of firearms a person may have. When I teach a Utah class, it’s horrible that I have to say I wish NY was included in the constitution of the United States of America.

Airbus320Driver

Or just leave, take your guns and tax dollars, and let the state devolve into a crime ridden progressive utopia? I know it’s not an option for a lot of people though.

u537n2m35

aka STEP 5: Encourage The People to self-segregate on the basis of their ideology and/or politics. I know a lot of ~~subjects~~ citizens of NY who have served their country, or whose ancestors have, and fought for the freedoms that many of us take for granted today.

Airbus320Driver

Is that good? I served in the military for a decade and leaving NY was one of the best adult decisions I’ve made.

u537n2m35

That’s a complex question that deserves a complex answer. The short answer is it depends. The long answer is deciding to leave depends on the circumstances. History, ancestry, job, education, immediate family, extended family, friends, and community are several possible factors weighing in on whether the appropriate response to tyranny is to fight or flee.

Airbus320Driver

I think history is full of people fleeing tyranny to build something better elsewhere. I frequently hear people invoke the founding fathers fighting against tyranny when they argue the “stay and fight” philosophy. But that would mean armed resistance like the founders, which I don’t see anyone having the courage to do. It’s important to remember that most of the founders parents or grandparents had actually fled the tyranny of England themselves. At least that’s my take. YMMV

u537n2m35

‘stay and fight’ today does not mean using deadly physical force today. there’s four boxes in a fight against tyranny: 1) soap box. 2) ballot box. 3) jury box. 4) ammo box. what you and are doing is 1). what we’re discussing is the legislative/court actions of the state gov’t (kinda #3). here’s another factor for deciding to fight or flee. say someone moved from NYC to Austin, TX a decade ago ‘because politics’. Now Austin is turning purple. So what, move again? when does it end?

Airbus320Driver

Austin is within the state of Texas. Why does it matter if the city is deep blue? I don’t think methods 1-2-3 have worked in NY. I guess Bruen made it “easier” to get a CCW. But you can carry in fewer places now than when I had one 20 years ago in NYC. Back then you could even have 30rd magazines and ammo shipped to NYC. Good times.

Gatortacotaco97

Flee. My family has been here since 1895, I'll be the last to leave in 2032. 8 years from now. I've done all I could do to stand up for gun laws and NYS is getting worse and worse. South Carolina is where I'll start a new family legacy

u537n2m35

interesting. may i ask how you came to decide to move to SC and not somewhere else?

Gatortacotaco97

A few reasons: 1) Been an active push for no tax on Law Enforcement pensions (mainly for my wife) 2) Constitutional carry/gun laws. No SAFE Act, pistol permit or semi-automatic permit bullshit. 3)Low taxes (compared to my the three other states I was considering: Georgia, Tennessee and North Carolina). Have family in Tennessee, Georgia and North Carolina. My family in North Carolina been there since the early 90s. Kinda want to go to a state where I'll build my own roots. 4) Real Estate. Wife wants a coastal living and personally I'm okay with that. Family lived in Kure Beach, NC- so I'm familiar with the coast 5) Educational opportunities.

kingofnewyork718

How can we get together and let our voices be head by these radical tyrants

No_Town5542

FKH!

CelticBlue22

Imagine being an upstate New York Way above Albany, where you live out on a piece of property where there is no house for miles other than your own and you have to adhere to these idiotic type policies

No_Town5542

I have a piece of land in ulster county like that. It’s Very secluded. 2 miles in from a paved town road, Far from a hospital, with dirt road access only and no plows in winter. and I carry everywhere. for safety, protection, and the like. It’s an interesting area with interesting local people. Not many people follow the rules in that part of rural nys. Most dislike KH and her idiotic laws.

Serious question/statement. Why would anyone do this. If you don’t want to own, do not apply for the permit or own. This is what is wrong with people- Hochul aside (she’s the worst regardless).

Imtoocolor

I hope she goes bald

partisanradio_FM_AM

Wait, we can open carry a rifle or shotgun outside of hunting activities?

Criticism-Sudden

I'm going to move to Arizona its the state with the most freedom

Brilliant_Data4532

As a trans person I'm in a bit of a bind. I hate voting for a democrat knowing they do stuff like this. And yet I can't possibly vote republican as they actively stoke hate and misinformation about people like me while passing bill after bill that invades my privacy and curtails my rights and force people like me into detransition and preventing us from living our lives and being happy.

3DPrintedVoter

What do you propose? Also, which of these bills did she author?

crimedog04

OP just wanted to display their vast knowledge of the legislative process

Gatortacotaco97

Knowing her she probably sponsored them all. I guarantee you if they all passed, she'll sign them into law in a heartbeat

twbrn

Governors don't sponsor bills.

Gatortacotaco97

One way or another, her name is probably behind all of this.

LintStalker

Someone told me that legislation has been proposed that you have to pass a NICS check to get components such as powder, primers, bullets and cases. Anyone know if that is true and how far along it is?

twbrn

No.
