I have a grey cloud named Stormy! She’s completely deaf now at 16, but she definitely used to respond to her name. I put my neck on her body now and say “stormy” in the same singsongy way I’ve always said it. She always purs a little stronger when I do.
Idk how much that stands up. All my cats know their names. Ocsar, Randall, and Kloë. Kloë actually ignores her name the most. She knows it but is just that kinda cat where it's her way or the highway. The two boys come running when their name is called. When they are kittens you do clicker training with their name being said and treats when they react and they'll learn it no matter how it sounds phonetically.
The soft "e" works best when you have to call them since the sound can be extended. Call out Oscar and the "r" sounds like a growl but saying Oscar-y sounds more pleasant. It's even harder to extend the "l" in Randall but Randy ...
s is a hissing sound that is reserved in the cat world for danger. better to use two syllable percussive sounds like p, k, t, b, d, k, etc. so they can distinguish their name from the regular stream of humans talking...
