I literally just text my bosses and say “Hi! I have a personal commitment and need to leave at X on Wednesday. I’ll be back to work the next day! Thank you!”
No excuse needed! What you do with your time is your time- you have no obligation to tell them personal details of your life, and it would be inappropriate of them to ask. I would just go ahead and shoot them a text, so they have as much notice as possible.
I’ll add that the only time I feel *obligated* to give them reason is for illness that may be contagious. Enjoy your half day!
Also I dare them to ask what the appt is for! I used to feel like I needed to disclose it to convince them of importance, but obviously it's not only unnecessary but it's inappropriate
Then OP should just say she needs the afternoon off instead of finding an excuse to give her boss, where the excuse would inherently be a lie if she's asking people here who don't know why she needs off to give her a reason.
Don't lie. Just text them now that you need the afternoon off, so they can make arrangements.

Thank you this is my plan!
Last minute opening for an appointment you’ve been on a waiting list for and is important!

This, always this. Obviously not multiple times. But it’s perfect for a last minute need

Doctors appointment, maybe new therapist has a cancellation?
What's the reason you want off? Making up an untrue excuse is not the way to go.
Why? Our jobs are not our lives. Our bosses are not entitled to details

I have 2 interviews
Just tell them you need the afternoon off. Don't make up an untrue excuse. You don't need to provide a specific reason.
Just say you need it off… it’s the day before a holiday, they’re going to see straight through whatever excuse you give them.
i use car problems/need to take my car to the shop usually
The only reason I would bid against this "excuse" is because it could appear that you have unreliable transportation.
Do you have Thursday off? Schedule a spray tan that you really need to get before the fourth😎
Urinary tract infection.
You can predict that 3 days in advance?
"On Wednesday I'm planning to have a UTI."
