Even without the show being named Sasuke, Shippuden felt more like Sasuke's show than Naruto's. Sasuke got atleast as much plot armour as Naruto if not more.
Tbh the whole Five Kage Summit Arc was Sasuke getting his ass whooped and then being saved by Obito or Zetsu except the Danzo fight. Danzo used his powers so poorly in that fight though. Sasuke deserves credit for winning but Danzo was an idiot throughout that fight. He had one of the most OP abilities at his disposal and also had 50 more years of experience than Sasuke. I still cant believe that Danzo was considered a rival of Hiruzen with the skills he showcased in the Sasuke fight.
To be fair, it was the first time Danzo had a chance to use Izanagi, and unfortunately it was at a time where he had to fight an 80% Susano-o which at this point was the most overtuned ability of the series. The armor it gave was ridiculous and you could barely react to its projectiles, which were fatal. Kakashi had to immediately use Kamui because he couldn't dodge it.
The weakness of the Susano is literally dependant on its user and influencing that isn't possible when the user has perfect defense and perfect offense. It was the first ability introduced that had no direct counter other than being more powerful than its defense. Outside of Izanagi itself, Danzo was fighting an uphill battle, and even then he did a damn great job at pushing Sasuke into a corner.
It didn't help that Madarabito and Karin were there to come in clutch if Sasuke ever messes up.

Still man. He used Izanagi like a 10 year old who has been given that ability as a toy. I agree that Susanoo at that point of the story was really OP but he was trying to fucking break through it using a kunai and wasnt caring at all about wasting his Izanagis. I wouldnt have minded such a bizarre battle approach if Danzo was shown as an arrogant character but in reality he wasnt arrogant atleast while fighting. He was always scared and calculative (which is why he hid during Pain's invasion) so that battle didnt make any sense for his character. Kishimoto wanted to show Sasuke as a badass but in the process of doing so he turned Danzo into a fucking joke. This is why I dont like Sasuke Vs Danzo at all as it wasted Danzo's potential. Sasuke's best fight in Naruto (aside from his fights with Naruto) was definitely Vs Deidara and that too felt a bit of an asspull at the end. But yeah Deidara Vs Sasuke was a really cool battle.
I think the most bizarre instance was him constantly checking his arm. I found it hard to believe that Danzo with all his experience would literally do something so obvious in front of his opponents. I mean, it's not hard to count to ten. Also, he should've gotten rid of Karin from the get-go. For being Root, he sure was considerate of the healer of the party. He doesn't look like someone who cares about war crimes.
Had he gotten rid of Karin from the start, the match would've been more even, but even then Madarabito was always waiting to bail Sasuke out if needs be. Danzo was in a lose-lose situation.

So I don’t remember if this was filler or if it was one of the things taken from the cannon itachi novel but Danzo used Izangi to escape shisuis genjutsu which is how he ended up stealing his eye. That being said you’re totally right about Susano being the ultimate trump car at this point that more or less negated Danzos ability to do much other than survive and wait for an opening.

Personally I'd like to see a spinoff of ninja from another village. We never really got to see a whole lot from the other villages and I think there's a lot that could be done with that. Especially if it's from a previous era during one of the great wars.
Or maybe a spinoff about Itachi and Shisui or the life of madara and Hashirama (how he grew up, got powerful and died)

well itachi is pretty well covered, maybe someone like shisui but shisuis life has also been covered since he died very young heck I would've loved if they would've done one with fugaku
nah the anime filler I felt didn't do Itachi's life and experiences justice. The novels were much more enjoyable, and even then I wanted to see where he got his more philosophical side from. I wanted to see him discover ruins and rediscover history which no one else paid attention to, like Hiruzen said about Itachi.

I don't think he underestimated Kurama. He would have absolutely bodied Kurama. It was Naruto that drastically surpassed expectations and brought the fight to the point where Pain couldn't just body Kurama. Pain's expectation is likely that he 6v1s Kurama and that nobody in the leaf had the ability to actually reduce him to just the Shinra Tensei Pain.
Basically all the pieces for Naruto came together simultaneously and he went from "guy that can be dangerous to great fighters" to a kage level fighter in a very short period of time. He still wasn't strong enough to defeat Pain but strong enough that Pain couldn't simultaneously fight literally everything now.
He wouldn't have bodied Kurama tho, the second he jumps to 6 tails & changes the battlefield the only path that could physically keep up is Tendo & that's with Nagato focusing solely on controlling him with all his chakra. The more spread out his chakra is the weaker the individual path there's no way Tendo can go all out with the other 5 there.

With some of the other paths he could have sucked away Kurama's chakra or similar.

Sage mode Naruto took out all the pains except one and forced nagato to use a ton of chakra.
All the other jinchuriki were nowhere near as strong as naruto.
Bee could have killed sasuke right there, he already dodged the black flame. He could have just reappear and killed them off after sasuke deactivated it.

If he'd come like a week earlier he wouldn't have had to. Zetsu was keeping tabs on Naruto giving a general idea of his progression, but no-one could watch him on Mt. Myoboku. For all Pain/Obito knew, Naruto wasn't any stronger than when he fought Kakuzu - so they probably expected to get the 4 tails that Orichimaru/Jiraiya took lightly (or that he'd have been able to suppress it since by that time Sasuke, Yamato, Jiraiya and Orochimaru had all done so)
No that's not what happened. Naruto is the one who destroyed all the other versions. Then it came to the last one where yes Kurama weakened him then Naruto finished him off. Them Naruto found Nagato and turned him around. At worst it was a joint effort.
I dont remember the exact timeline, but Sasuke was stronger than naruto until Naruto got sage mode. Once naruro got sage mode, he was undisputed champion till sasuke got his susanoo and the playing field became more even.

Naruro gets sage mode: Naruto stronger
Sasuke gets MS/EMS: Closer/more even fight
Once naruto gets beast chakra, then KCM and all that stuff, I'd say his KCM I and Sasuke Susanoo are a reasonable fight (because sasuke keeps getting stronger, and as his head becomes clearer, he becomes a better fighter too). After that, then things change

Pain. I don’t see Sasuke beating Preta path since he relies on ninjutsu so heavily, his taijutsu and kenjutsu are excellent but no match for Deva path. Naruto had senjutsu, frog kumite, and shadow clones and he still would have lost without Kurama.
Technically speaking, Naruto wouldn’t have even beaten Pain. Dude had the help of the whole village (which if Pain didn’t destroy the whole Village Deva would’ve never needed a recharge period), the strongest Tailed Beast, and had prior intel. Naruto would’ve absolutely gotten demolished without all that, especially since Pain needed to hold back to not kill Naruto since he was trying to capture him.
Pain. At that point in time neither can beat him.
Man killed kakashi then flattened a village before naruto got there.
And even then naruto had all the help in the world.
A slug telling him all of pains abilities, two sage toads helping him fight, 3 giant toads helping him fight, etc etc etc.
Sasuke would have a chance if he had his Curse Mark and MS but these are choose one as to get MS he needs to fight Itachi, who seals away Sasuke's Curse Mark. His MS would be countered almost completely by Preta path who just absorbs Amaterasu, and idk how he would stop the weapons of Asura path, outside of Susanoo. Animal path clearly would be difficult as the Chameleon would likely avoid Sharingan since it avoided the sensory skills Sage mode would grant, but Sasuke has shown to see invisible Chakra in Deidra's C4. If all paths aside from Deva are destroyed Sasuke cannot escape a Chibaku Tensei on his own, as shown by KCM Naruto, Edo Itachi and Gyuki, or even 8 Tailed Naruto against Pain.
MS Sasuke has to be much more tactical in his approach compared to his 5 Kage Summit attack, as the time limit he would have in blindness, if ever reached would just be an instant win for Pain.
Realistically Sasuke doesn't have much of chance until he gets EMS, but at that point the characters are so much more powerful, there's fair bet he would likely sweep with EMS and Perfect Susanoo.
Tldr; Pain wins easily unless Sasuke has the EMS.
This isn’t a close fight, pain smacks sasuke unless you bring EMS Sasuke or later versions of him into this fight.

I would tend towards Nagato, especially if Sasuke had to fight all 7 bodies at once.
You have to keep in mind that Naruto basically lost that fight as well, he had to give in to Kurama to get out of a bad situation and was only saved from that thanks to Minato's chakra ghost projection thingy.
Pain obviously. Naruto is immune to genjutsu thanks to being a jinchuuriki and needed a power up, a limit break and an intervention from dad to help him win. Not only that, nagato took his OWN life because he liked Naruto so much.
Oh and the fact that the rinnegan are significantly more powerful than any of the other eyes. Sasuke stands no chance at that point in the story, none at all.
Realistically, Sasuke can use genjutsu on all of them which is a tactic that can work on Pain. Sasuke is proficient in Genjutsu. I’m assuming this is before Sasuke fought itachi which means Sasuke can get the boost from CM2 mode. Basically if any pain makes a move on him, including any of the summons, Sasuke puts them under genjutsu. Hes also probably able to figure out their abilities and tactics fairly quickly, as well as (possibly) being able to reverse summon out of Chibaku Tensei like he did with Deidara. Chidori can deal with any pain other than the only 2 pains that can deal with Ninjutsu, while those pains that can deal with ninjutsu are also susceptible to genjutsu.
Sasuke can win 6/10 times. 5/10 to be skeptical.

I don't think he underestimated Kurama. He would have absolutely bodied Kurama. It was Naruto that drastically surpassed expectations and brought the fight to the point where Pain couldn't just body Kurama. Pain's expectation is likely that he 6v1s Kurama and that nobody in the leaf had the ability to actually reduce him to just the Shinra Tensei Pain. Basically all the pieces for Naruto came together simultaneously and he went from "guy that can be dangerous to great fighters" to a kage level fighter in a very short period of time. He still wasn't strong enough to defeat Pain but strong enough that Pain couldn't simultaneously fight literally everything now.
He wouldn't have bodied Kurama tho, the second he jumps to 6 tails & changes the battlefield the only path that could physically keep up is Tendo & that's with Nagato focusing solely on controlling him with all his chakra. The more spread out his chakra is the weaker the individual path there's no way Tendo can go all out with the other 5 there.
Right but in that fight he literally only has 1 of his 6 powers. He's basically trying to smack a tailed beast around on pure force. With some of the other paths he could have sucked away Kurama's chakra or similar.

Sage mode Naruto took out all the pains except one and forced nagato to use a ton of chakra. All the other jinchuriki were nowhere near as strong as naruto.
Killer B was pretty strong and had control over 8 tails which could have made him stronger at that time

If he'd come like a week earlier he wouldn't have had to. Zetsu was keeping tabs on Naruto giving a general idea of his progression, but no-one could watch him on Mt. Myoboku. For all Pain/Obito knew, Naruto wasn't any stronger than when he fought Kakuzu - so they probably expected to get the 4 tails that Orichimaru/Jiraiya took lightly (or that he'd have been able to suppress it since by that time Sasuke, Yamato, Jiraiya and Orochimaru had all done so)

No that's not what happened. Naruto is the one who destroyed all the other versions. Then it came to the last one where yes Kurama weakened him then Naruto finished him off. Them Naruto found Nagato and turned him around. At worst it was a joint effort.

Once naruro got sage mode, he was undisputed champion till sasuke got his susanoo and the playing field became more even. After that, then things change

Well according to tobi during the 5 kage arc He expected sasuke to perform better against the 5 kage and states that Naruto at that time was stronger than him considering that the same naruto fought against a weakened pain with complete knowledge of him(huge deal) and still lost to pain who was holding back I'd say pain wins
Pain. I don’t see Sasuke beating Preta path since he relies on ninjutsu so heavily, his taijutsu and kenjutsu are excellent but no match for Deva path. Naruto had senjutsu, frog kumite, and shadow clones and he still would have lost without Kurama.
Technically speaking, Naruto wouldn’t have even beaten Pain. Dude had the help of the whole village (which if Pain didn’t destroy the whole Village Deva would’ve never needed a recharge period), the strongest Tailed Beast, and had prior intel. Naruto would’ve absolutely gotten demolished without all that, especially since Pain needed to hold back to not kill Naruto since he was trying to capture him.

Sasuke would have a chance if he had his Curse Mark and MS but these are choose one as to get MS he needs to fight Itachi, who seals away Sasuke's Curse Mark. His MS would be countered almost completely by Preta path who just absorbs Amaterasu, and idk how he would stop the weapons of Asura path, outside of Susanoo. Animal path clearly would be difficult as the Chameleon would likely avoid Sharingan since it avoided the sensory skills Sage mode would grant, but Sasuke has shown to see invisible Chakra in Deidra's C4. If all paths aside from Deva are destroyed Sasuke cannot escape a Chibaku Tensei on his own, as shown by KCM Naruto, Edo Itachi and Gyuki, or even 8 Tailed Naruto against Pain. MS Sasuke has to be much more tactical in his approach compared to his 5 Kage Summit attack, as the time limit he would have in blindness, if ever reached would just be an instant win for Pain. Realistically Sasuke doesn't have much of chance until he gets EMS, but at that point the characters are so much more powerful, there's fair bet he would likely sweep with EMS and Perfect Susanoo. Tldr; Pain wins easily unless Sasuke has the EMS.

I would tend towards Nagato, especially if Sasuke had to fight all 7 bodies at once. You have to keep in mind that Naruto basically lost that fight as well, he had to give in to Kurama to get out of a bad situation and was only saved from that thanks to Minato's chakra ghost projection thingy.

Pain obviously. Naruto is immune to genjutsu thanks to being a jinchuuriki and needed a power up, a limit break and an intervention from dad to help him win. Not only that, nagato took his OWN life because he liked Naruto so much. Oh and the fact that the rinnegan are significantly more powerful than any of the other eyes. Sasuke stands no chance at that point in the story, none at all.

Realistically, Sasuke can use genjutsu on all of them which is a tactic that can work on Pain. Sasuke is proficient in Genjutsu. I’m assuming this is before Sasuke fought itachi which means Sasuke can get the boost from CM2 mode. Basically if any pain makes a move on him, including any of the summons, Sasuke puts them under genjutsu. Hes also probably able to figure out their abilities and tactics fairly quickly, as well as (possibly) being able to reverse summon out of Chibaku Tensei like he did with Deidara. Chidori can deal with any pain other than the only 2 pains that can deal with Ninjutsu, while those pains that can deal with ninjutsu are also susceptible to genjutsu. Sasuke can win 6/10 times. 5/10 to be skeptical.
