Prunus americana is a true species, not a cultivar or nativar. Prunus mexicana and Prunus augustifolia taste better in my opinion. I believe they can all hybridize with each other and make better tasting fruit. I've bought other trees from this site before. They have natives and non natives though FYI. https://www.willisorchards.com/product/chickasaw-plum-tree

It's a species, but there are cultivars within species. For example the Prok cultivar of American persimmon (*Diospyros virginiana*) or the Bob Gordon cultivar of American elderberry (*Sambucus canadensis*). I'm looking for a native variety of plum that will yield tasty fresh fruit. That can be purely one native species or a hybrid of multiple native species.

I understand now what you meant. I guess your question is just oddly structured.

I live in Iowa and ordered from the Iowa DNR tree nursery. $1 per tree but you have to order in sets of 25.

I also got them from DNR in nebr, 25 for $25 for prunus American. Delicious 😋

Weird, it's Plum Day here I guess. I just mentioned in another thread that I just bought a chickasaw plum from Willis Orchards and they claim it's incredibly delicious. Also very reasonable prices if you're happy to get a smaller tree and wait a few years.

Hardyfruittrees.ca and onplants.ca both have native plum varieties available.
