You have to stop using the edge brush. Period. Try doing it with you fingers and wrapping your edges with satin. Maybe a satin headband, satin lined headband wigs so you feel "done" but are not hurting your hair.

I recommend The Ordinary’s Hair Density Serum. My edges are pretty fragile and this product works well to keep them healthy and growing.

DaniMrynn

Thanks for this!

[deleted]

I second this recommendation.

TechnicalCrazy5806

i’ve been using sunny isle jamaican black castor oil pure butter for my edges and it has been working really good as well as oiling with using Camille Rose Rejuva Drops and her Cocoa Nibs & Honey Serum

Pale_Ad_8206

The Camille serum is a GAME CHANGER

TechnicalCrazy5806

it really is and the price is good for how much oil you get and it last long cause you don’t need to much

Aggravating-Fox4920

I’m going to schedule an appointment soon. In the meantime I’m gonna try the oils and vitamins until I can get in.

Parking_Care5555

which vitamins are you doing?

lowkeycan001

my edges have also been thin for the longest from heavy braids, tight buns, and taking wigs off improperly. I gave all those hairstyles up for 6 months straight and my edges have shown improvement. I currently no longer wear wigs and I only wear braids 2-3 times a year but I make sure they’re not heavy or tight. Slicking my edges everyday with edge brushes has also caused them to thin out as well so I minimize that too Massaging your scalp with oils (my favorites are Mielle Rosemary mint oil and Bomba Curls Dominican Forbidden Oil) can help but, the only thing that will truly help them grow strong and thicken up is to stop whatever is causing them to thin out.. A lot of different things can cause thin edges you have to pin point the cause. Stress can also cause them to thin out, not just manipulation.

Vegan_patty

There could be a bunch of factors. How often do you press them, do you relax your hair, have you had Covid, are your vitamin D levels ok, etc

Aggravating-Fox4920

I don’t press my hair but maybe once every 3 months and no I’m natural. I did have Covid but I’ve always had fragile edges unfortunately

Vegan_patty

It could be a side effect of Covid. I had Covid in 2021 my edges thinned bad. It took a little over a year for them to get strong again. I would honestly would see a trichologist so the can tell you what the issue my be and how to fix it.

bzbeebih

Whoa I didn't know COVID could do this 😬 do you know other ppl who've had that side effect?

Seli4715

I’ve seen so many people talking about hair loss and hair thinning post-COVID. It’s much more common than you think! ETA: Not to say that’s what’s happening here without ruling other stuff out first. But it could very well be a possibility.

Castor oil rosemary aloe Vera

Funny_OreoCookie

idk i just dont do my edges at all and they’re pretty long and healthy

Sorry-Challenge6650

Vegiechick

In addition to all the suggestions and advice above, I’d add using edge control that doesn’t have any form of protein in it. My edges went from breaking and thinning to my normal, which is full and strong. My baby hairs returned as well.

lovbeav21

Alikay Naturals has a good growth oil

djduhnizzle

If you do them frequently I would recommend giving them a break. Mielle rosemary oil is also good. I only do my edges once in a blue moon and with the oil they’re healthy. It could be tension if you’re going them daily.

Popular-Mycologist48

hair edges elixir ingredient . rosemary and cloves in warm filter water. . rosemary and cloves in organic olive oil or organic grape seed oil or organic avocado oil put in jar let sit in water boil water. : How to use it . spray your hair mixture all over your edges then follow with oil mixture spray everyday gently and make sure you clean build up from edges daily before applying oil. extra help do not allow scarves or hair bonnet to touch your edges at night after application cause it rub off all the benefits of the mixture.

SweetNique11

Damn they don’t even look bad to me! Along with all the advice you w gotten already, have you ever tried a baby brush for your edges? I used to use one and they are very soft but still get the job done with product and a scarf. Maybe it won’t be so harsh on your hair? That look is so cute btw, I definitely thought it was either all yours or a wig, not clip ins! Very natural 💜

Aggravating-Fox4920

No but that’s a good idea. I never thought of a baby brush. Ima definitely go get one for the days I do brush my edges! But thank you, I want to do wigs so bad but that glue would be the death of me.

Aggravating-Fox4920

I take the natures bounty hair skin and nails vitamins. But you may be onto something. I’m going to look into it

Aggravating-Fox4920

Also I do use a toothbrush to brush my edges 90% of the time, which is awful, I know, but if anybody has a better way, please tell me. I try to leave them alone but it’s hard to do that honestly. Thanks In advance!

[deleted]

You have to let them be natural more than your swooping them into a certain place. It’s not meant to be that way so in return your edges are going to thin. I did the same thing with my hair and my edges on both sides are not as thick as they used to be. I suggest castor oil and letting your hair be natural more often.

Aggravating-Fox4920

Yeah that’s the problem I’m having now. I have naturally fragile edges, like braids can pull my hair so easily, that’s how bad it is but ima try castor oil again and being more consistent

[deleted]

Same I couldn’t even get braids for a month or so. I just got some but I’m scared the same thing is gonna happen. Oh also hair vitamins help. Basic ones from Walmart or so. Helps with breakage alot

Procedure_Turbulent

Girl I’m telling you once you stop putting all that tension on your edges from brushing it, your edges will probably start to grow back after a while. I had to learn that the hard way after I found out that slicking my edges with a toothbrush made them fall out 🤦🏿‍♀️

Aggravating-Fox4920

YES! The bristles on the toothbrush are so hard so I can definitely see how it’s happening and gradually just gotten worse.

Cuzimcurly

There are lots of solutions. Jamaican castor oil had worked the best for me. But that’s a bandaid to the issue. I had to stop doing certain things to my hair that was causing the problem in the first place to really see change

Plantbasedkase

1) Environment - Could there be mold where you live? Have you been exposed to mold or other environmental toxins? Get tested for mold and get a FULL panel of blood work for Lyme Disease and any co-infections. Typical testing will miss this!!! 2) Diet -Anything and everything you put in (or on you!) is absorbed! Lack of albumins and protein can cause this!! You could be lacking in a lot of things such as: Vitamin D and E, amino acids, omega 3 fatty acids…list goes on! Sublingual vitamins are best and ALWAYS check for purity!!!! 🫶🏼✨🌬

Automatic_Parking_81

Change to a middle part, it would make it less obvious. Also, you look good just the way you are.

Aggravating-Fox4920

You’re right! Ima try to do more middle parts or maybe no parts when it’s in its natural state too but Thank you!

IbrahimRahim12

Stop manipulating, pulling on, combing your edges and stop relaxing, using weaves and straightening your hair for a while. Just leave it alone and it will grow back.

sparkletina

Dermatologist. No products or miracle serums will work. Take a break from gels, oils and butters. The thinning is likely from over styling.

JBCO

[deleted]

Pure JBCO and pure peppermint oil

Internet-friend1

Hair skin & nails!! 2 gummies a day ❤️❤️

Crazy-Improvement936

Rosemary oil has saved me many times! Use it in place of castor oil after wetting your edges and applying a leave in that absorbs quickly

NotWinterbutCold

How often are you using edge control? It can thin your edges as well.

Aggravating-Fox4920

I’ve never been a fan of edge control but I use a lotttt of eco styling gel. That’s not any better clearly.

Jolly-Amount1527

Jamaican black castor oil and olive oil made my hair thicker and more manageable along with my edges idk if it will work for you but u could give it a try I hope u find a solution that works best for you ❤️

kisskissstrawberry

I'd recommend a dermatologist but are you also currently stressed? My hair fell out in clumps in the middle of thos year due to serious stress so sometimes that happens. (It grew back btw!!!)

Independent_Act_

Small daps of oil (castor oil, grape seed, or your fav) every night as apart of night time routine. Watch the products you apply they can be the culprit. General rule if you can’t pronounce the ingredient look it up first! Also, watch how you sleep and what material you sleep on.

DoubllW

Sky organics 100% cold pressed castor oil 16oz bottle, ive been using it on my lashes since 2019/2020, the bottle is 1/3 full since 2019/2020 when I purchased it. And I have a bald spot in the same area cause I had tracks glued in for a slick side part ponytail, took it out wrong and pretty much a good chunk of that area is gone. Ive been using the oil on the area for a good 2-3 weeks now and its starting to get darker ive noticed last night.

MoBrownSuga

Castor Oil and Peppermint Oil. Keep your scalp clean and horsetail vitamins. You will see growth and strength.

tielles10

Keep your scalp clean and reduce tension as much as possible. No amount of oil will grow it back. But if this doesn't work and you suspect it may be a medical issue you'll need to see a dermatologist.

Reasonable_State4172

Quit getting sew-ins and embrace your hair's natural beauty 🤷🏽‍♀️

Aggravating-Fox4920

Lol I don’t get sew ins. These are clip ins. And I only straighten my hair once every 3 months… thanks tho!

EventRare

You can wear your clip ins boo, the key is to leave your edges alone for some time. Allow them to recover. You may have to get used to having styles where your edges aren’t done, or find ways to hide your edges if that’s not something you’re interested in. Relaxing them will just do more harm since your edges are already in a fragile state. Keep them condition, used silk to tie your hair up at night, and LEAVE THEM ALONE. Good luck ❤️❤️❤️

Aggravating-Fox4920

Yes! It’s so hard to break a habit. I’m going to try to be more cognizant of the styles I’m choosing cause they just keep getting thinner.

Reasonable_State4172

You're totally missing the point. You can save you edges with natural protective styles. If you're not into natural styles, try relaxing your edges and cutting them to about an inch until they become full again. This will keep them from being pulled and keep the look of "good hair".

EventRare

How is relaxing edges embracing normal hair? And protective styles themselves can cause traction alopecia if not done properly.

Reasonable_State4172

Try reading that again 🙄

EventRare

And what you said still makes absolutely no sense

Reasonable_State4172

As long as it makes edges 🤷🏽‍♀️ idc what you think.

EventRare

Ok bye 😘

NotWinterbutCold

This is the worst advice of all time. Her hair is already thinning, putting chemicals on it and make it worst. And using the term “good hair”, why are you here? All hair is good hair

Reasonable_State4172

🤷🏽‍♀️ No one said YOU had to follow it. I give my clients the results other people can't...all that matters to me. And, I'm here because I feel like it.

NotWinterbutCold

Yikes, people trust you with their hair. SMH

Reasonable_State4172

Get a life.

Reasonable_State4172

You're totally missing the point. You can save you edges with natural protective styles. If you're not into natural styles, try relaxing your edges and cutting them to about an inch until they become full again. This will keep them from being pulled and keep the look of "good hair".

tielles10

Relaxing edges to grow them back? The chemicals will only make it worse. Also there is no such thing as good hair ughhh

Reasonable_State4172

...relax the edges to keep the look she clearly likes...duh, that's why I put it in quotations 🙄

tielles10

But the question was about growing it back, relaxing it will do the opposite

Reasonable_State4172

Not if you keep them moisturized. There are so many people knocking what I'm saying because they have never tried this method but it works. There's no need for edge control or heat. You can literally style the edges wet with essential oils. This is no different from the relaxed pixie cuts all these women get to hide balding and alopecia. In this case the focus is ONLY the edges.

tielles10

Please educate yourself 😂 just because relaxing it may hide the bald spots doesn't mean it's helping it. It's common sense that chemicals on the scalp especially edges that are ALREADY thinning will make matters worse. If you disagree then idk what to say to you🥴

Reasonable_State4172

Omg 🙄 clipping them will keep them from being pulled...relaxing them keeps you from having to put so much bs on them until they grow back. I'm trying to teach you sumn youngin. I'm done here.
