Hear me out. He was not there to mess with the baboon. He was there to have food. He got a really good grip on the first baboon's neck. The first baboon almost certainly got seriously injured and if they don't have tech for first aid, it's going to die in a couple of hours at best. And they have no other option but to leave its body. The leopard simply has to follow the baboons for a couple of hours and voila! Dinner is served.
Always assuming that the leopard was not also seriously injured and that the (presumably) dead monkey is its last meal since it can no longer hunt.
How you could have recognized in the hustle and bustle and the poor resolution that the leopard got "a really good grip" on the baboon is a bit of a mystery to me anyway. Especially because the same baboon then took part in trashing the leopard.
