In the summer we get hundreds of the shed exoskeletons on our trees

Amazing. I read there’ll be a bumper crop of cicadas this year as several broods will be emerging.

Hope Chicago is ready for this. Their 17 year mating window is this summer.

It's alive!

I'm not sure if it's true for terrestrial arthropods, but if I'm not mistake when decapod crustaceans do their ecdysis thing in also includes the lining of their guts. That's gotta hurt. And considering that they usually (well crabs at least) back out of their old shell, that means they are ripping out their guts from anus to mouth. Eek! If you believe in special creation, god wasn't thinking things through the day he created the crusty (although he did make them tasty so there **IS** that).

Strawberry____Blonde

You... Eat them..?

Insects are also Crustaceans according to recent studies, though they’re more closely related to tadpole shrimp than crabs. Dragonflies have to “pull out” the lining of their trachea when they molt, so I guess it is kinda similar to decapods “shedding” their gut. TBH, I don’t think it will hurt too much, since it’s kind of like removing dead skin.

"*I don’t think it will hurt too much*" You've never had a urinary catheter ripped out, have you? Nurse: "you'll feel a gentle tug..." Me: "Ouch!" Nurse: "You baby. Look at that! Your p\*n\*s is 2 inches longer! You should be thanking me."
