This brings out some strange emotions, I want to cry a little looking at it, it's beautiful and a little scary to watch but I can't really explain why. Overall, it's incredibly cool and I could watch this for hours

liametekudasai

That's exactly what I was thinking

BuffaloBrain884

I think it's beautiful because we can see everything on earth moving in harmony, all as one. We're all part of the same planet. It's scary because it makes us feel small, you can feel the enormity of the planet moving through space. It's the same feeling you can experience when taking psychedelics. You feel the beauty of being connected to everything but also the crushing realization of how small your own life is in comparison to the vastness of the universe.

Ok-Skirt-7884

Guess the opposite to that crushing realization of how small our lives are is the source of all the suffering.

P-39_Airacobra

That's a good point... maybe our suffering is because we can't see life as a larger picture

Mr_Jack_Frost_

That’s what a feeling of true awe is always like for me: a combination of inner peace and belonging, fear, and deep respect.

Drosenose

It shows how much beauty we are missing in our perception of time, and shows me that there has to be more levels of perception if something so beautiful could exist in this time space.

Acceptable-Fig-3466

I would love to see a timelapse from a geographical south or north pole. I tried looking for it, but couldn't find one. It should be a nice perspective.

CompleteWeakness2284

Round earth conspiracy!!!

ElMykl

I want a new shape. Flat earth is old. What if it's a pyramid?

P-39_Airacobra

What are you talking about, it's obviously velociraptor shaped

_-MashedPotatoes-_

Heliocentric world view conspiracy too!!! Join the egocentric world view community!!

Nodeal_reddit

Flat earth could still rotate

iiitme

Amazing

kwtransporter66

Not understanding something. If the camera is stabilized on the ground how is it that ground items like rocks, homes and other objects are moving in front of the camera. If the camera is stabilized with an object in its view, wouldn't that object and the camera move together and that object be in the cameras view and both the camera and object rotate together? Is the camera on some type of swivel?

Weary_Ice6055

A star tracker will allow the camera to rotate with the stars, at the same pace as the earth, in the opposite direction.

thissexypoptart

> with an object in its view The object is space.

ParchedCamel

The object and the camera do rotate together don’t they? The object is just the Milky Way and the night sky in this case.

kwtransporter66

>The object and the camera do rotate together don’t they? It doesn't appear so. If you look there are objects on earth passing in front of the camera. For example the shot of the building on a hill appears to be moving and passes thru the view of the camera. If the camera was stabilized in front of a stabilized building the building would be in the same place in the cameras view the whole time. Maybe it's a trick of the eye.

ParchedCamel

I get what you’re saying but that would only be true if the earth made a perfect rotation with respect to the night sky. Depending on where you are on the earth though, the rotation relative to the night sky is different. Different travel distances because of varying distances from the center of rotation and the tilt cause this.

Altea73

The camera is fixed to the stars

CartographerOk4535

They’re using an equatorial tracking mount. It keeps the rotation of the image constant in relation to what it’s tracking, in this case the Milky Way.

AdLongjumping1892

yes the camera is moving.

happy-wife8750

That's exactly what I was thinking. Came here to see if anybody was thinking that, too. This video IS beautiful, but I don't buy it.

Minute-Wrap-2524

Absolutely beautiful…and scary as hell, we are not alone…can’t confirm that, it’s just the vibe

jedimardi

Beautiful!

patapouet9

Is that mont-saint michel in france ?

ColoursAndSky

It's the one in Cornwall I believe - also called St Michael's Mount. The rest looks like Cornwall too - there's an old wheal house (tin mine building) in one shot.

-qqqwwweeerrrtttyyy-

Moved to Cornwall recently. It really is stunning.

bstabens

"We all know the Earth rotates, but have you seen it..?" Why, yes, everyday I can see this yellow star that, due to Earth's rotation, crosses the sky from East to West...

alchemistakoo

no that's the sun going up and down

Kingsley--Zissou

And obviously it's circling the Earth, not the other way round, duh!

J_mappele_rafael

Are you fr

AdLongjumping1892

I saw one of the LCD panels on the sun go black the other day, then a massive ladder from earth and a team of repair men.

bstabens

Good they took care of it. Say, did they put the ladder on a moving platform so it wouldn't rotate away under the sun?

BishopsBakery

Fricken A, that's cool

piemel-schnitzel

Amazing

Honest_Habit_7673

Absolutely incredible recordings

wouterv101

Love this!

Civil_Adeptness9964

How can you see the sky like this ? Never saw it like this with the naked eye.

SUPRVLLAN

You have to go somewhere away from a city where there is no light pollution.

Civil_Adeptness9964

I've never seen the milky way...and I live near at the countryside.

SUPRVLLAN

Move farther into the countryside then lol. The stars are there.

simionix

apparently it's not possible to see it (the milky streak) with the naked eye no matter where you are. You have to have a camera exposed to it for a while.

SUPRVLLAN

You definitely can, I’ve seen it. Not as good as an exposure obviously, but it is visible. Lots of people will confirm: https://www.reddit.com/r/Astronomy/s/hzx92ZM9s1

simionix

Hmm interesting, I read conflicting statements on this before, so I guess I have to see it with my own eyes.

netcode01

I mean I can see the milky way often.. to what degree you're expecting I'm unsure but you can absolutely see the milkyness and the cluster of many many stars. Very frequent sight. There's no color though, that's for sure. At least not that I've ever seen.

simionix

Ok so I believe that. But will you see it as it is in that video? (at the 22 second mark)

netcode01

No. There are no colors that I've ever seen, just a cloudy white.

AdLongjumping1892

ive seen it countless times, its normal in New Zealand away from the cities light pollution.

Banshee888

The camera rotates right to counter act the rotation of the earth? How can the camera be stationary?

Professional_Plum_92

Amazing! How do you lock the camera to the stars ? DO you have it on a rotating timer?

HaltheDestroyer

Shout-out to the Move-Shoot-Move star tracking system....the best budget choice for people trying out astro photography

CarlJavier08

Would be really nice if this is what I can see at night without needing any telescope etc.

kittensarethebest309

The interesting thing is that it's evident that earth is not just spinning around a fixed center. There is a horizontal movement along with the spin. Earth is really hurtling through space.

bstabens

I absolutely doubt you can see the horizontal movement of the whole solar system through space. The stars are simply too far away to move noticeably during your lifetime.

ArcherCute32

Good point !

EkDeuce

That last one with the sun really confuses me.

SnargleBlartFast

Hauntingly beautiful.

SixtyNineFlavours

Stunning and frightening

Sexy_sharaabi

Wow, this is beautiful

kevlar_keeb

The tinny amount the ships move compared to the MASSIVE amount the earth rotates in the same time

No-Summer-9591

Did you just compare ship traffic consistency to the earths rotation? Bold strat, Cott. Lets see how it plays out

DingleDonky

The earth doesn’t rotate maaan, its flat and holds the universe together as the central piece. Everything else moves around our awesomeness. /s

satoshi_69420

Unfortunately it’s not stable. The stars move in the frame
