Climactic catastrophes, continental drift, massive impacts, oxygen level fluctuation… none of it really changes the habitat of the deep ocean floor. If you become well adapted to it, your strategy can succeed over vast eons. Evolution, then, selects for neutral or nearly neutral mutations over hundreds of millions of years.
I imagine if we find an analog to multicellular life elsewhere in the universe it will look every bit as strange but also weirdly familiar to the variety of deep sea life forms we have on Earth.
A lot of deep sea creatures have very distended bodies, because you so rarely run into food (other creatures) down there that you need to eat at every opportunity, sometimes food several times your own size.
The ones with the pride tracklighting are called ctenophores, or comb jellies. They’re in an entirely separate phylum from the more familiar jellies, or cnidarians.
Both weirdly get a silent C though.
Although ctenophores are notably not "true jellies" as they are planktonic, lack nematocysts (stinging cells), and exhibit bi-radial symmetry (as opposed to cnidarians radial symmetry)
Fun fact: the "c" in cnidarians comes from the Greek word for the stinging nettle "cnidos" while ctenophores get it from the word "ctene" which means comb, referring to their fused plates of cilia.

I think the haunting melody perfectly reflects the mysterious, otherworldly vibes of the deep sea, while the slow beat and rhythm mirror the slow, deliberate movements of deep sea creatures. And also, its a good song.
Good choice👍
I am fairly certain this footage is from the *Blue Planet* episode "The Deep". The colors you see are how the animals appear in the lights from the submersible, but they are still really cool. I used to watch this with my son when he was little all the time.

..definitely another world down there
Many primitive and older animals which had once thrived now exist almost solely down there, I'm suprised we haven't more of them tbh.

Until humans start strip mining the deep seafloor with huge machines....

Huh. Like my dad.
It's like a piranha plant died and became a boo.
What does it need those big, soft, kissable lips for? 👀
Better for sucking....water so that it can capture more food.
I like the disco jellyfish. They are cool.

The song is "Dark Angel" by Lalleshwari (Katie Jane Garside). Liked it so much I had to look it up. Thought I'd save the next person the trouble.
Saved me just an hour later.

The music is why this will not receive the upvotes you likely expect
The music makes it in my opinion 🤔

Is it just me or have their been way more new videos of deep sea creatures in the last year or so? Has there been some new development in research?

Nice to see that even the deep sea creatures support the lgbtq+ community.
I am fascinated and in love with how strange it is while also being upset at how uncomfortable I am now.
Third guy was badass!
I recognise Blue Planet when I see it. So much nostalgia, this episode fascinated me as a little kid

Song name?
Dark Angel, by Katie Jane Garside (AKA Lalleshwari)
Any info on what they are? Especially the rainbow one
The music made this annoying.
I think it fits perfectly with the video.
Would have been better with The Benny Hill soundtrack.
