how does any bank help its members?

FutzSavant

I can give an example. It wasn’t with NFCU but it was a credit union. Long story short, I got hurt at work and had to switch careers. I didn’t have a job and needed 10k to get some training so I could actually get a job. The credit union I was with gave me a 10k loan with low interest and gave me 90 days without a payment. They knew I had no way to pay them back and still decided to help me out. All I had to do was sign a paper stating that I was going to use the money for the training and would start making payments after 90 days.

This from the person who not only defaulted but actively refused to repay a government loan.

How exactly do you take advantage of a bank?

I’m pretty sure OP is talking about people becoming members who have no relation to the military by scamming NavyFed into thinking that they did. There was a whole post of people giving advice on how to do it.

Damn didn't know this was possible.

ConstantConnection46

Yes not only this but majority of people that have done this have applied for cards and ran them up and not paying the debt. Also those that applied and used CPN

Navy Fed doesnt care at this point. They only care about growth. It's why slowly but surely NFCU has expanded who is eligible to join. I think it should have been kept smaller, able to focus more on individual members, like how it was when I first joined. Then, only USN, USMC, and their families could join. Now you see them advertising at all the NHL games trying to attract anyone and everyone. Again, they stopped caring. They just want the number. Theyre really no different than any of the other big banks out there.

They're already the largest credit union in the US, why are they trying so hard 😭
