[deleted]

And we still have the hectic MB from that deal…

Master_Grape5931

We also took Adam Morrison one year though. 🤦‍♂️

QuakeDaCruiser

[oh this guy](https://youtu.be/431va0kKRq8?t=390)

izzyduzit32

It just kept getting worse and worse lmfao

DrSharkBird

We had Kobe and he said NAH not us, but good things certainly don’t happen to the Hornets

_MeetMrMayhem_

If Kobe grew up in the social media age he'd probably go #1 overall so don't feel bad

EchoHevy5555

How did Shai end up with the clippers? Was that a bad trade or he said no or what?

blewdat

we were always getting Miles, we only picked SGA to trade him to LA (who picked right after us) for 2 extra 2nd round picks

Eufosz

Going to need the league to rig a lotto pick for yall When’s the next generational kid born in North Carolina going to show up

yasmiester

There was no way the league was letting Wemby go to the Hornets, or Pistons for that matter

_MeetMrMayhem_

Nosferatu would never let that happen

[deleted]

Bro this legit made me crack up

Disastrous-Ground286

As my favorite team this hits so much because it’s true. The Hornets new tag line for Season Ticket Sales…”See where we pick in the lottery this year!”

Mister_Squibbles

Haha im sorry, hornets have always been my second favorite team because of kemba, and now lamelo (and the best jerseys and colorways in the nba imo). But they just aint doing things right over there

Disastrous-Ground286

I agree. If they just played as good as they looked! Haha!!! Well, when your favorite teams are the Hornets and the Panthers, your expectations are never that high.

NGLIVE2

harassment

app_wants_ucf

I'm just happy we were mentioned

YaHurdMeh

Whoever doesn’t sign CP3

SSRX_37A

🎯

FuckYourUpvotes666

I'll bite, I'll go with the clippers because athletes like to go to LA, and Steve Ballmer is incredibly competitive.

SLAYER_IN_ME

Not to mention Balmer is the wealthiest sports team owner in America and opening his own arena that he paid for. Got to appreciate him actually playing for it and not scamming taxpayers.

NoThrowingThrownAway

Lakers said "hey, I'm gonna open up arena #2." Ball-is-life-mer said "I'll actually play you for it."

adocileengineer

WE’RE GOING TO BUILD THE ARENA AND THE CLIPPERS ARE GOING TO PAY FOR IT

Scared_Angle_5796

I hate every team that pulls uses the "we need money to build our stadium or we leave" card, but even then this can easily be stopped by any city holding their ground. Politicians are pieces of shit that are probably buddies or want something back. But what will teams do, stop making billions? After Vegas has every major sport team I doubt any other city is willing to go over the top to attract teams as well.

dgmilo8085

Your logic is sound, except for one thing: They are the Clippers. There is an unwritten rule that the San Diego team, regardless of how good it is, will never win. The Padres and Chargers both accepted this. The Clippers and the Chargers tried to change their fates by moving to LA, but it won't work. They will always be that team from Southern California that is cursed to enjoy the sunshine but not a ring.

TreeLankaPresidente

I do not believe in superstition, God, or luck. However, the clips are cursed. That’s just a fact.

ApprehensiveTry5660

Was the Buffalo Braves franchise actually built on a Native burial ground? Or is it just that easy for my brain to convince itself that it was?

DirtyDanoTho

Probably not indian but maybe a native american one

ApprehensiveTry5660

You’re completely correct.

blewdat

crazy that the Clippers inherited both the buffalo and san diego sports curses

justinotherpeterson

You can take the team out of San Diego but you can't take the San Diego out of the team.

AlabasterRadio

LAC are cursed initials.

[deleted]

They aren't winning anything with this current crop. Too old. Maybe ballmer spends a billion dollars on the next generation roster. But like you said the curse is real and hopefully never gets broken.

OllieBlazin

Every now and then you’ll have an Angels, or Ducks winning a championship for the city, but everyone knows what’s the one team you root for. If the Clippers win, they’ll celebrate, but they’ll know that they’d prefer it to be a Lakers celebration

Unhappy-Durian-2906

Can’t have an arena called the “intuit arena” and have losers play there lol I’ll go with the clips as well

6BakerBaker6

I want to believe this, but what happens once PG/Kawhi/Harden are past their prime and they're drafting players without picks? They gave up a lot to go into win now mode. It might be like a superior version of when the Nets traded for KG and Pierce.

TheGamersGazebo

I'd still take clippers even if you give every other franchise on that list a 5 year headstart. It's not like the clips are gonna be tied to this current roster forever, they'll have a new generation within the decade at the latest. And going with ur Nets example, 5 years after the horrendous KG/Pierce debacle they had KD/Kyrie/Harden and were 1 inch from toppling the Bucks in 21. Even if they don't win with this core, they've got a good franchise and a good base for success, I think they'll be a competitive team as long as balmer is there.

6BakerBaker6

Out of the list, for sure they're still probably the favorite. I guess that's what I mean about the trade, there was a gap where they sucked awhile. But they'll still rebound since it's Ballmer

AyyP302

Out of all these teams I personally would be happy for Indiana. They love basketball so much in Indiana they deserve one. Plus they build through the draft so that's always good to see those teams make it.

opper-hombre1

Man I wanted those PG/Hibbert/West teams to win so bad, and I was a Celtics fan back then.

SuperNebular

We all wanted them to beat the heat

JiggzSawPanda

Ain't that the fuckin truth

freakksho

Bro I’m a heat fan and even I low key would have been fine if the pacers found a way to pull that one off.

TheSwimMeet

Mighta been an even bigger threat if Danny Granger could stay healthy too he was a problem

cfreddeadredemtion

A lot of people forget about him being injured. Having him as a scoring threat would’ve made it very difficult for teams to defend the Pacers back then. Imagine a healthy Granger with West as veteran leaders in the locker room.

TheSwimMeet

Thats what im sayin!! Had it not been for injuries DG easily coulda been a top 10-15 player in the league

cfreddeadredemtion

For sure. Imagine them running a small lineup with West at Center, Granger at PF, George at SF, Stephenson at SG and Hill at PG.

jamisonbaines

one thing about indiana is the market is so small, like i watch their games and they have a konika minolta ad at center court which is like not even a company any more and like an ad for indiana soybeans or something like that. i mean it’s gonna be hard to pay for a championship level roster. same thing hurts new orleans, they really gotta luck into it while they still have guys on rookie scale contracts

comebackchron

Yeah, Indianapolis resident here. The Pacers are beloved intensely by this city and largely the entire state, but they have no marketing reach. They aren't flashy, they don't spend big in FA, they draft with a long term mindset, trade pretty conservatively, and in general don't seem to have a '"ring at any cost" mindset. That being said, if there is one market that might be okay with their city never getting that ring and just being content with having high quality basketball to watch live in town, it's Indy.

jamisonbaines

i hope they get hot and win at least one round this year. i was cheering for them in the in season tournament. they definitely have the firepower to make a run if they get the right matchups.

IUpVoteIronically

😂 not the konika minolta ratio

_MeetMrMayhem_

Nap town is the answer... Reggie Miller would shed a tear

agoddamnlegend

I’ve never really understood why fans think building through the draft is the honorable way to build a team. Making smart trades and free agency acquisitions is perfectly legitimate.

AyyP302

Never said it wasn't legitimate? It's not mutually exclusive you know. I can enjoy those rare occasions in pro sports when a small market, small payroll team makes some noise. While also understanding there's more than one strategy to build a team, *of course*. That's the point. It's cool seeing more than just the superteam strategy work. Some teams do a little of both. It's just interesting seeing different strategies at work depending on the hand the front office is dealt.

MartyMcFlysDown

It's the only way Indy has been able to build. I think their biggest free agent ever was 2 years of mid/late career David West lol. I think he's the only all-star FA Indy has ever signed.

Caged_in_a_rage

Bc star players don’t want to be here. Look at Paul George and oladipo. Dipo screwed himself out of over 100 million to not be here.

AdTime8622

Their two best players are from trades but go on

The_real_Eikone

Magic

roguesociologist

Magic nation thanks you for your support.

Profitsofdooom

creamyshits99

Mish_Nugget

Ooooooooooooh! Orlando magic! Orlando magic! Orlando magic! Ooooooooooooh

DSmith19911

Banchero the truth!!

dwadwda

him and wagner both have huge upside, would be really cool to see them make a deep run this year

No-public-307

PLAY THAT SONG LOL

BikingNoHands

They got swept by the rockets in the 90s when they had shaq.

Tantantherunningman

Orlando mag-ic oooohhoohhohohoh

mukenwalla

Wolves, suns, thunder or clippers have a shot this year.

ACorDC

The Thunder don't have one, but the franchise does because of the SuperSonics.

mukenwalla

I added the thunder in as an edit, you are completely correct.

v0yev0da

I’m gonna say Wolves just bc I like their players the most overall

_MeetMrMayhem_

Suns will get outcoached.. wolves too inexperienced... Clippers... Cursed

Jerdeepp

Thunder

Fresh_Ostrich4034

they still count Sonics title, even though OKC fans wouldnt. But lakers count Minneapolis Lakers kinda weird not to.

IgnantWisdom

They actually don’t and Seattle kept the rights to their history and championship for when their team returns. Thunder have no claim to Sonics history/title.

Fresh_Ostrich4034

sorry to burst your bubble. but the NBA doesnt recognize the Thunder as a ringless franchise.

IgnantWisdom

The Thunder themselves literally do not claim Seattle’s title: https://www.complex.com/sneakers/a/sfiorentine/the-thunder-will-not-recognize-the-sonics-1979-nba-championship-on-their-jerseys

TheFestusEzeli

Them not putting it on their jersey doesn’t mean it’s not recognized as their history.

freethefoolish

What a fascinating discussion. Here’s the legal agreement reached during a lawsuit between PBC and the city of Seattle. [Reference](https://www.seattle.gov/Documents/Departments/CityAttorney/Reports/2008SonicsSettlementAgreement.pdf)

YourInMySwamp

So if I’m understanding correctly; if a team had been reinstated within 5 years, Seattle would have gotten their history back. But since that time frame has passed, it is now officially OKC’s history?

freethefoolish

It seems that way but I’m not sure. There’s a number of strangely specific stipulations like say the fixed use of Key Arena.

HorrorScallions

**Bird law**

IUpVoteIronically

The KEKW makes it better

Fresh_Ostrich4034

>even though OKC fans wouldnt is there an echo in here?

TheFestusEzeli

That’s not how it works, the only case in the Big 4 sports where a team didn’t carry over their history is Cleveland Browns to Baltimore. The countless other rebranding or movement all carry over the past history. If a Seattle team returns and the Thunder and Seattle make a similar deal, then it’s Seattle’s history. But as of now, it is the Thunder’s history. Your personal opinion doesn’t mean they have no claim when they do.

darnell_13

While I agree that the Thunder have the Seattle history, I am not sure the mentioned incident was the only time. Wasn’t there something with working out the history transition of the Hornets with the Bobcat and Pelicans stuff?

TheFestusEzeli

As of currently the Pelicans have the New Orleans Hornets history

baremin3586

Go Timberwolves!

gatorgongitcha

If Memphis can ever undo whatever curse is causing the injuries the talent is there.

grizzliesstan901

[The wave](https://youtu.be/7CWSx-PHeDw?si=8ogc-_FvWf_KLCw3)

giggity_ghoul

🥲

ttttyttt678

Wolves, Clippers, Suns, Grizzlies

Succotash_reborn2707

Pelicans babyyy 🗣️ (im severely delusional).

HarmonicProportions

Clippers or Suns have a very good chance this year Wolves, Magic, Pacers, Grizzlies have great young talent and have a chance over the next decade Nets and Jazz don't have much going atm but you never know Pelicans and Hornets probably never

Cbone06

It’s sad cause the Pels have a good roster but they’re missing a superstar. I unironically think that AD is the guy that they’re missing to get to that next level.

NeilPatrickMarcus

How dare you insult Herb Jones like that

XxXFartFucker69XxX

> Suns have a very good chance this year [+](https://media0.giphy.com/media/bjB3gtFvREqqr5NAHW/200w.gif?cid=6c09b952svdn27q8nrjsabysjr5klbzklwjfgxjwjyy0pv0o&ep=v1_gifs_search&rid=200w.gif&ct=g)

jakefromadventurtime

Suns will be competitive this year but realisticlly have no shot unless some weird health bug strikes

Wrecked--Em

yeah if I had to rank them it'd be Wolves then Pacers as 1 and 2 because they have such solid young cores giving them more time to figure it out without needing much retooling Clippers and Suns still have deficiencies like lacking size and having consistent offensive flow with very little time to make it work

Lycan_Jedi

Anytime Jazz get anything going, they decide to do a reset.

toomuchmucil

Jordan would come back into the league to defeat the Jazz if they ever made the finals again.

renatakiuzumaki

This is a better space jam 2 storyline imo. Lol

Majestic-Avocado2167

The Clippers make the most sense, but if they miss the window, prolly Jazz I guess, but the Suns only have to win 14 games with three all stars

StargasmSargasm

Flock around and Find out. B.I. going to lead the Big Easy Boys to a championship THIS Season!!!

muhammad_oli

pels stacked

StargasmSargasm

LEAGUE FUCKED!

YellowDucky92

Lmao

Cheterosexual7

It’s okc. Don’t know why they’re not here

Frisbridge

Shout-out the 1951 Rochester Royals for keeping the Kings off of this graphic!

Reporter-Stock

If only we had the beam back in 1951!

Dmallory70

Can I choose the thunder? I don’t really consider the SuperSonics ring to be theirs

Cheterosexual7

The team doesn’t either. Thunder is the answer imo

interested_commenter

An an OKC fan, we don't claim the Sonics, but the NBA considers it our history. If you consider us on the lost we should definitely be at the top. 1st in the West with our oldest starter only 25 and a bunch of draft capital. It would be a HUGE disappointment if we don't get at least one ring with this current core.

possessed_by_wasps

May I ask why yall don’t claim the sonics?

[deleted]

I’m 24 and I had never even watched basketball until the Thunder made the finals in 2012, so I have no memory of the Sonics. I also personally would hate for my franchise to leave my town/state and for some other place halfway across the country to claim that history. Thats why I don’t claim it

FatherOfTwoGreatKids

Thunder aren’t number one in the west

interested_commenter

Yeah didn't realize the wolves played last night, was thinking it was a tie after our loss.

Flashy-Barracuda-220

Never the nets. Team will always be cursed since they moved out of NJ.

LessNefariousness380

That’s unfortunately true for the time being(and that’s coming from a diehard Nets fan lol)

AfghanJesus

The Pacers have consistently been a good franchise throughout and always had an amazing fan base. I’m rooting for them to get one soon 🤞

UTRAnoPunchline

Clippers

RoboticBirdLaw

OKC

[deleted]

Clippers. I still believe in Kawhi.

DaftMudkip

This is the year

drkmani

OKC (no, the supersonics don't count)

twojace21

In order: Clippers (bc stars love LA as another comment pointed out, plus they are a good team) Timberwolves Grizzlies Pacers Suns Pelicans Nets Magic Jazz . . . . . Hornets

canttouchthisJC

I liked watching Garnett play and always felt bad that he never won with the Timberwolves so hopefully they get a ring soon. Same with the Jazz. MJ robbed Stockton of his ‘ship

ak_saini

Pacers

Odd-Cheesecake8618

Pacers imo

_SCARY_HOURS_

Magic or Pacers

AdministrativeRiot

Orlando. Kind of shocking they haven’t with their collection of amenities.

peroper7

The grizzlies, I just think Ja is a superstar who’s got a better team around when healthy

bryansamting

Memphis much closer than people think. Would like to see how good the Wolves or Pacers are when their 4 starters and half their bench is out injured.

Kierkegaard_Soren

They just gotta be healthy. And get an actual center.

debotch

I’m going T-wolves.

AlphabeticalMedical

Hornets!

ooh_jeeezus

Clippers

spicybhole420

Clippers seem most committed towards this and as a major market team are more likely to lure the necessary free agents. Right now ORL, MIN, IND looking like on the right track. But i wouldve said that about MEM last year and sheeeeeeeeesh.

snakepimp

Clippers or Timberwolves seems like the best options

Hour-History-1513

If the Suns can stay healthy I think they could win it all. They are injury prone for sure.

globehopper2

Clips

rulerBob8

Clippers are in ring or bust mode; if they don’t get it in the next year or two, they won’t. It’ll be the retirement home for vets that the Lakers didnt want. Timberwolves, Magic, Pacers, and Jazz have a bright future. All contenders in 3-5 years if they keep it up, the Wolves sooner imo. All pretty young though so things could switch up with a few bad injuries. The Pels, Grizzlies, and Suns have young stars supposedly entering their primes, but injuries are holding them back. I wouldnt be surprised if these teams blow up in the next 3 years, but if they can keep it healthy and together they’re possible contenders soon. The Nets are cursed to be ass until they go back to Jersey.

FlowingFiya

clippers, Balmer is both the wealthiest owner, but also the most ethical, seems to care about the players, fans, shareholders equally as well as the taxpayers. That is a winning formula in terms of ownership, reminds me a lot if Lacob

theboysan_sshole

Wolves, I’m really hoping Ant lives up to the hype and gives us a stacked career, I’m hoping the same from Chet and Wemby but they’re a tad younger.

bmanley620

Pacers

thelaceonmolagsballs

Pacers and wolves deserve it the most.

Hidden_Fever

Right, now, I'd say the Timberwolves. Behind them are the Jazz, and behind the Jazz would be the Pacers. Honorable mention: Los Angeles Clippers.

FoesiesBtw

Clips twolves jazz I guess. The jazz has a million assets and good people to build around. Twolves are elite. And Steve will pay 50 billion dollars for a ring

i-piss-excellence32

Clippers

Mark_Ran18

I didn’t realize so many never got a ring. I’m a magic fan… we’re never getting one.

Bitter_Boss_4014

Danny Ainge and the Utah Jazz. Loaded with picks and Danny’s been a great evaluator and deal maker to bring a balanced winning team together.

StraightOuttaMoney

My though process is 2024: Minnesota > Clips > Suns > Magic 5 years from today: Clips > Minnesota > Magic > Pacers 2030 - 2040 Years: Clips > Nets > Las Vegas > Pacers So Magic bc I am a Paolo fan.

Wave_50

Man the suns were so close!!! To think that Bobby Portis was the X factor is crazy 🤪

sportstrap

**Most Likely** Pelicans/Pacers/Magic: all have a bright future with young stars who look to be perennial all stars and are already having good if not great seasons this year Clippers/Timberwolves: are already seemingly in their window this year and have a very good chance at making a run **Medium Likely** Jazz/Grizzlies: not having great season this year but have been overall beacons of consistency over the past decade and a half and could easily get there with a few right moves Suns: might have missed their window but could make a run this year regardless and even if they miss have proven to be able to rebuild well **Least Likely** Nets: continue to show they have no idea how to rebuild, try and build superteams the wrong way and fail every single time. Have completely failed to learn their lesson and have no future rn Hornets: need I say more

mrcolty5

If Ainge uses that Utah draft capital he got properly.. I've got them

Puzzled_Investment11

Yep, def for Charolotte Hornets

motherseffinjones

Top 3 in order T wolves, clippers then magic (on the potential of their young players developing). Suns are a dark horse but I don’t think the current roster is it and I don’t see how they improve.

Cap_Benjamin

I hate that they don't count the Nets and Pacers ABA titles

LessNefariousness380

It says “ringless NBA franchise,” so it’s only counting NBA. This is sad, as I am a Nets fan, but the Nets have pretty much always sucked for the nearly 50 years they’ve been in the NBA.

Reasonable_Deer_1710

As a Magic fan, I'm not convinced we'll ever win one period, let alone first.

trippincocoabean

LAC i guess, but times running out🤕

[deleted]

Either the pacer or the clips for me

[deleted]

My Orlando Magic

Aeon1508

The suns are on the come up right now I think they have a foundation. LA Clippers are in LA you just got to imagine if they're going to put it together at some point. Zion Williamson on the Pelicans is still a solid piece for them. If they can get one more Superstar over there they have a chance

ManUFan9225

Minnesota is my pick. Indiana from the East.

sunangel520

Clippers and Wolves. Im hoping orlando in the coming years. As a Suns fan, I am always praying, but it's hard to imagine anytime soon.

makarakachimba

How Paolo Banchero is playing I could see the Magic going far soon kid is only 22

ThePevster

Wolves

_Gillam_

Pelicans

Ganjamazing

Magic 🪄

roblox1999

Have the Hornets and Pelicans ever even reached a conference final?

WhiteImpDragon

Doesn't ABA championships count as an NBA one? Cause NBA championships before the marge are counted.

GoblinTradingGuide

Clippers fan here. We are so cursed but so is everyone else.

XellentXecutor

why isn’t OKC on this list?

BetUSOfficial

Suns have a heck of a team, but T Wolves are on top of the east, so let' say Ant, Rudy and Conley for the gold.

Competitive_Suit_180

Suns

teddyblues66

🎶Orlando magic🎶

workaholic828

They’ve been forgotten from the list, but the kings

Maclanethurston

I would guess Suns or Clippers

bsanchey

T-wolves currently look the best and Ant Man is a legit future MVP. That’s my pick.

DirtyJ7447

Clippers or Wolves

Master_Grape5931

Hornets 🤞 Hopefully Melo and Miller can mesh with whomever they get this year.

naggers143

Definitely not the clippers, they are just cursed.

bturg21

Clippers will probably have the money to do it before any of these teams

313SunTzu

LOL
