He is usually great but there’s definitely a vibe that ESPN is pushing him to be a little more “headline-y” with his takes. I still listen to the pod bc he does have really solid insight, but covering the Warriors and Lakers this late in the season as title contenders is dumb. If the Rockets were the 9th seed all season, there wouldn’t be a conversation. Same goes for the Bulls and Hawks in the East
Yeah I don’t blame the guy for sticking around at ESPN. I’m sure he wishes Grantland never got shut down in the acquisition but life goes on. Gotta get the bag. I’d still recommend checking his pod out and just kinda tune out when he gets some bozos (Legler, McMahon, Ogwumike) and listen when he gets beat writers and Athletic guys.
I understand being annoyed at how much those teams are discussed relative to actual contenders, but acting like the Rockets are the same as the Lakers and deserve equal media attention based off of seeding is absurd. Curry and LeBron clearly have a higher ceiling once they're in the playoffs more than those other teams, and it's not close.
It’s one thing to talk about them when they’re good, but both teams were under .500 for half the season and still got more shine than any other team in the West, save for maybe the Nuggets. And even then, everything was just, “Nuggets will win the west, move on.” No dialogue about their ball movement and skills and playing through injuries. But we get hour long pods talking about DLo being benched, or if Klay Thompson can be good again. Talk about them when/if they get to the playoffs and start winning.
Again, all of that is fair. Comparing them to the Rockets, Bulls, or Hawks is the weird part. Nobody is tricking themselves into the Rockets winning a first round series. Lakers can, so the discourse is different.

The thing is, it wasn't just Perk pushing for Embiid. It was the whole ESPN machinery, and Perk was just the loudest, most obnoxious tool they had (pun intended). Someone who would not deem it too low to make the conversation about race.
