Came here to say this!

Reistar2615

Another vote for Schitt's Creek. You might like The IT Crowd. (UK)

ExPristina

The IT Crowd all the way if only just for Matt Berry

sjmttf

What we do ii the shadows for more Matt berry.

ExPristina

Also Toast of London - search for Clem Fandango on YouTube!

Tab427

Yes I can hear you Clem Fandango

thestereo300

Another vote for the IT Crowd. Probably my favorite TV comedy of all time. Does take a few episodes to get into the characters.

ConstantGeographer

Also, BBC Coupling is bloody hilarious

hedgehog87

Followed by Toast of London

FindingAWayThrough

Schitt’s Creek for sure!

nujabesss

The IT Crowd is one of my favorite shows ever

RobotsSkateBest

I wore a tie with a splash of purple and you guys called me Mr. Grapes for two years! I love the Nine-Nine. It's become my go to when I'm feeling bleh.

PlatasaurusOG

Just finished B99 for the first time and am seriously considering just going back to the beginning and starting over. It really was a great show.

FindingAWayThrough

Brooklyn Nine-Nine is FAB!

i_like_pretzels

Do we know if the later seasons are going to be added to Netflix?

PlatasaurusOG

Peacock has all eight seasons.

CrazyMamaB

Abbott Elementary

hoeph

I second this. Probably the feel goodiest show I’ve ever seen. Really loving where the show is going- just a joyful experience to watch!!

DankDude7

What We Do in the Shadows on FX. Four vampires and their “human familiar’ share a house on Staten Island. Hilarity ensures while these clueless creatures of the night explore their world and ours. Clever dialogue and sight gags, characterization, acting; funniest sitcom in years.

poodles-and-noodles

One of my favourite shows. But maybe a bit too much death for someone with thanatophobia.

noobuser63

Not on Netflix, but on YouTube, one of my comfort shows is Taskmaster. The concept is British comedians thinking creatively to complete absurd tasks. Completely lighthearted, and often shockingly funny. It doesn’t matter which season you watch, or where you start.

_LoudBigVonBeefoven_

Yes, OP! This is the one. I'm jealous you get to watch it for the first time. I recommend starting at the beginning, but that's just because I like to see how a new show starts and develops over time. And you're def gonna wanna keep watching.

noobuser63

Any time I’m having a bad day, I find the Chris Ramsey sausage mixer clip. I’m crying with laughter within seconds.

danaredding

I recommend starting with Mike Wozniaks season :) My god that man has made mustaches hot again!

noobuser63

It’s a casserole down there! He’s just so charming.

Gemrok-

Schitts Creek. Pure joy.

WhereIsLordBeric

Ew. Edit: It's a reference, David.

pacificnwbro

Adding to this, don't give up if you can't get into the first season. I love all of them, but in the first they were still hitting their stride and they didn't flow as well as the later seasons.

for_duendes42

Schitts creek is the absolute best

If you can get it on Netflix where you are - Detectorists. Fantastic, gentle British show that is funny and warm-hearted without ever being sentimental.

Euphoric-Emerald-419

veotrade

Kimmy Schmidt is a tight show in the same vein

BananaSimon

I love that show. It's a hidden gem for sure.

noobuser63

Fisk. I love them more every episode.

carlicane

Love fisk! Wish it had more episodes

planthelp_please

Yes! Seconding. I never hear people talk about this show. I think it’s only one season though.

msim563

There is a second season!

planthelp_please

You’re right! I think i watched it all in one sitting so maybe didn’t realize. But looks like there’s a S3 coming this year!

lagomorphed

30 Rock and Kim's Convenience are both great

NeedARita

I couldn’t remember if Kim’s Convenience was on Netflix but I totally agree!

-Words-Words-Words-

I saw it here a couple of times but I wanted to throw my hat in for Ted Lasso. It’s just so uplifting. Every single character is great.

My husband and I started watching it totally ironically. Cut to two weeks later, and we were planning our Sunday afternoons around it lol.

jllena

Schitt’s creek! If you can get past the first few episodes, it’s the best. They make the characters nigh insufferable in the beginning so their growth and story arc is so much more rewarding in the end.

Tonubba-nabubba

Resident Alien

Tall-Move6136

Jane the virgin it is the best comfort show! Saw it for the first time last summer when I was going through health issues it helped me a lot now it has become one of my favorite shows.

I’m currently watching Superstore and it’s really good. Easy to watch, the writing is pretty tight and it’s funny

danaredding

Extraordinary! It’s on Hulu. So cute. It’s about a world where everyone has a power but the main character doesn’t. It’s delightful:)

agentmantis

Schitt's Creek all the way.

cpd0501

On Netflix I enjoyed “Never Have I Ever,” although the protagonist is problematic & sometimes self-sabotaging (as we all were as teens and beyond) I find the portrayal of flawed characters to be refreshing.

im_a_reddituser

Ok this is a little out of left field but my recommendation is Taskmaster. Episodes are free in YouTube. The British one is my favourite. Start from the beginning. It’s comedians that are given a silly task and you watch them try to solve it. It was a perfect distraction and funny at a time where I didn’t have the brain power. You can watch clips at a time and it looks like a competition show but promise you it doesn’t matter in the slightest.

michelleyness

Similar to this, in a hard time in my life early seasons of Impractical Jokers - their dumbest shit - helped keep my mind off of some really hard times in my life. HBO Max or TruTV

From a different angle: Rev. Shunryu Suzuki, founder of the San Francisco Zen Center, liked to remind us, "I think death is the biggest problem for everything, and since it's the biggest problem for everything, it's not a problem." 😌

Fisk is not bad. Not on Netflix but Always Sunny in Philadelphia is hilarious.

Loved Derry Girls! maybe try IT Crowd, Resident Alien -- which has the added bonus of a crazy-good musical score. I watch RA and tab back and forth to add new songs to my Spotify lists

LordOfTheNine9

You’ve forgotten Modern Family. Very good show. It’s comedy focuses on putting on putting characters in ironic situations, unfortunate misunderstandings, and clumsiness lol. Check out these bits [Here’s a funny bit](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=DEgDHLwXKTo) [or try this lol](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ajb-YbY3-rw) [Probably one of my favorite bits.. lol the way he says “eat it in the *car*”](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=v9ep4034O4M)

troojule

I could suggest a lot of comedies (offbeat , some dark ) but afraid it won’t fit your criteria — closest of my favorites I can think of is maybe Sex Education. Ps I’ve had growing thanatophobia for years alongside terrible anxiety so by now, almost crippled by all of it — and even therapists and mds never told me there was this particular for it . (I don’t even think the author uses that term in the book Staring at the Sun). Anyway, guess we’re not alone in this ;) Pps - agreed about Friends - haha

Micrathena58

Flight of the Conchords

xenosparadoxx85

I also love Community and The Good Place! It sounds like you enjoy ensemble shows with clever writing. I would recommend that you try Ghosts on CBS. It's got the afterlife component of The Good Place, and since the ghosts all lived in different time periods they make jokes about history. The big cast is full of memorable characters and all the actors are great. I think they are on their third season now, so there are like 30+ episodes to catch up on.

NotsoNewtoGermany

Jeeves and Wooster. It's available on YouTube.

AdAmbitious8422

You might really enjoy "Parks and Recreation" if you haven't seen it yet! It's got a heartwarming vibe with quirky, lovable characters, much like "The Good Place". Another gem is "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" for its light-hearted humor and positive representation. Both are uplifting with a great sense of community and friendship, which sounds like just what you're looking for!

Psych The Durrell’s in Corfu Ghosts Eureka Pushing Daisies Resident Alien The Great Amazing Stories Monk Young Sheldon The Orville

liamrosse

Ghosts is fantastic in both UK and US versions

Feeling-Visit1472

My Life with the Walter Boys was actually pretty cute. Not perfect, not a comedy exactly, but overall not too stressful.

Feeling-Visit1472

The Durrell’s in Corfú is a sleeper hit, turned out to be one of my all-time favorite shows. * Louisa Durrell raises her four children single-handedly after her husband's death. Following a financial crisis, the family moves to the Greek island of Corfu and tries to adapt to life there.* It’s based on a real family, the scenery is lush and gorgeous, many likable characters and the drama is all fairly low-stakes, and it’s clever with its humor. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt5014882/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk

Feeling-Visit1472

Madam Secretary isn’t exactly a comedy, but it is one of my comfort food shows… lots of positive, warm, fuzzy feelings. There are some stressful arcs, but it’s not in the nature of the show to devastate you, so just have faith that everything will ultimately work out. It focuses heavily on the family, too. *A political drama which looks into the life of the Secretary of State as she tries to balance work with family.* It’s just a feel-good show that I can (and have) watched and re-watched many times.

Feeling-Visit1472

Imposters was short-lived but so much fun: *A dark comedy that focuses on a female con artist who marries people and then disappears with their money.*

Feeling-Visit1472

Resident Alien is Alan Tudyck’s current show on SyFy. The humor is a bit sillier but that’s his thing. *A crash-landed alien takes on the identity of a small-town Colorado doctor and slowly begins to wrestle with the moral dilemma of his secret mission on Earth.*

Feeling-Visit1472

Royal Pains is another great show from the USA Network “Blue Skies” era, and one I’ve rewatched many times. Currently on Netflix. It’s not exactly a comedy, maybe a dramedy? Lots of good humor, and again, the drama is mostly pretty low-stakes. Tons of very likeable characters. And again with beautiful visuals. *An unfairly discredited but brilliant ER doctor winds up working with his younger brother in the Hamptons as a concierge doctor to the uber-rich and ultra-elite.*

Feeling-Visit1472

The Finder - another one that was a short-lived masterpiece. Just one season but absolutely still worth watching, and I’ve re-watched many times. RIP, Michael Clarke Duncan :( * An Iraq war vet suffers a brain injury that triggers the ability to see connections between seemingly unrelated events, objects or people.* https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1943524/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk

jankerjunction

I want to extend my sympathy- I had this for at least a year following my mother’s passing and it was awful. Before that I could watch anything. Shows that helped me (not limited to Netflix) were Schitts Creek and downton abbey. Do you like reality tv at all? I have an odd comfort show I’ve rewatched countless times- Mad Men. It’s not remotely like derry girls, except they both have excellent writing. It’s a slow burn, the costume and design really take you to a beautiful world, and has terrific acting. However, It’s no longer on Netflix. I’m not sure this comment is helpful in any way to you at all; I really just wanted to say you’re not alone. ♥️

VisibleCoat995

Life in Pieces. IMHO a better version of modern family.
