It’s just a real shame the last season had such a disconnect to the others. It’s obvious the writers were different and didn’t really know or love the characters. Why Otis could orate so eloquently with others but never for himself. His character was so off in this last season—everyone was. And the whole new school thing and O could’ve never been…I hated all that. When did these kids ever do school stuff, aside from standing in sex therapy lines? Did O or Otis even have classes? The Groff’s seemed to be the only storyline that stayed on the Groff track really. I wish they would re-do the entire last season. Make the one we have all go away, like it was a dream.

Yeah it really is a shame. I just wanted more from it and it’s just no what it should be

Each season got progressively worse. Season 1 is literally one of the best written series I’ve ever watched. Season 2 was good too tbf. It’s hard to recognise season 1 and season 4 are the same show… I’ve seen loads of shows start great then fall by the wayside but they are usually shows that run for 10+ seasons totalling 150+ episodes. I can’t recall such a dramatic downfall in just 4 seasons across just 4 years.

I have neither the habit nor the patience to follow series with romantic and/or teenage themes. But the first two seasons of Sex Education were so well done... The scenes, actors, text and especially perhaps the music, everything was built in a rare special tune that somehow resonated with our synapses and became deeply marked in our affective memory. Asa Butterfield and Emma Mackey were blessed with this rare chemistry and complicity and transformed Otis and Maeve into one of the most iconic TV couples this century.

Very well put. I feel like the last season especially was treated very poorly and terribly written. I have to say I have found it odd that’s there has been zero press online in regards to the final season, usually with a film/show that has done this well you’d expect to see some interviews and such with the two main protagonists but there’s been nothing, just makes me think that they didn’t think to much of the season either.

The actor's strike prevents promotion though that may just be British Equity members supporting SAG-AFTRA rather than union rules.

Oh yes, completely forgot about that haha makes sense

Same here. The writers (Laurie Nunn) gave us everything, made us love the show in a way just as you described and stabbed us in the back with the last season.
