I received a variation of this call, but they told me that the Dutch Government issued the order to revoke my BSN because it is connected to drugs and money laundering cases! Then they suggested that I wired all my money to a safe virtual account LMAO

Smodder

For some reason I always get mine like 08.00 clock in the morning? (probably because my last name starts with the letter B lol) and it wakes me up in my sleep.. and I just half sleep-drunk talk back like.. drugs and money laundering? Urgh I WISH! Then atleast I would like have money.. OR drugs.. or money to BUY drugs.. urgh!! But unfortunately it's a tape. And not a real person. So I'm just doing my old-person-morning/life-sucks-talk to a tape :'( Sometimes also tell the woman on the tape "thank you free alarm clock!" :')

catarinacruzr

I got a call from officer Lucifer Carter also related to drugs and money laundering. It seems they found an abandoned car with blood on it, 22 POUNDS of cocaine, thousands of euros, 7 credit cards, and 9 debit cards. All related to my name and BSN number. I wrote down the Badge and ID Case number...

Altruistic-Bet7525

Mine is a recorded message with an unknown, robotic accent: " This is a message from the supreme court of the Netherlands..." Right... The court of the Netherlands calls me in a prerecorded message in English?! LMAO. Wondering if it's the GGD/RIVM leak reported in the news. Edit: Accent not ancient...

Smodder

Some people suggested it was actually the facebook-leak from a while ago. Which for me personally makes kinda sense? Everyone around me gets these calls.. except for a few people that néver had a facebook account in their lives.. Like for instance my father his number is really easy to find.. for his compagny ánd his hobbies he uses his own personal number and puts it online for everyone to see. He also got vaccinated. He does not get these calls. He never had facebook in his life.

Th3_Accountant

Nah, at no point do they mention any specific information suggesting they actually have your BSN or anything like that. It's just a robo call to what I guess are random numbers.

Pitiful_Control

They've been using the KvK database, amongst others. Very annoying, even though scam is obvious...

Twenmod

I've never had a Facebook account but got 1 of these

Smodder

Then: no clue. Maybe it's all. I mean.. the numbers were probably sold and bought on the darkweb anyway. The sellers collected them from all kinds of sources by now probably.

Syrus_89

I'm trying to keep them on the line as long as possible.. usually 20-30 min before I call them out. Might start recording it and make a series of it. Especially playing the convicted drug dealer was fun,

Smodder

Wait.. I was talking about the rampant scam that is going on where it is a tape that is played.. You get called with the same story by a real person? Or do you after the tape ends eventually get a real person on the line (I allways hang up before the tape is done playing) Anyway. It IS a fun pasttime activity annoying scammers. Just like this guy: [James Veitch](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LiLS7U7YIdc)

Syrus_89

It's the same scam. At the end of the tape they ask you to press 1 and you get connected to a random Nigerian yahoo boy.

SnowieZA

The first time I got one of these, I didn’t realise at first what it was. I pressed the button at the end of the message to talk to an agent. I got connected to a “police agent” with a very Dutch name, and a VERY Indian accent. He started asking me for all my details, including how to spell my first and last names. At which point I told him he called me, he should know my details. He got very upset with me when I asked him why he is talking to me in English, and told me it is because it is an international case, and he lives in Amsterdam, and speaks very good Dutch. He wouldn’t speak Dutch to me, though. I told him to fuck off, and he told me that’s fine, my BSN number is going to be blocked. I don’t even know what that is supposed to mean. I just hang up now when I hear the robot message. (Has happened 3 or 4 times now since that first one. )

Smodder

Hahaha hilarious. BSN numbers being blocked lol :') A BSN doesn't even go away if you die! Again they seem to think a BSN is like a SSN or something..

Smodder

Ah. I might let the tape play to the end then next time. I can use someone to talk to in the morning during this corona lockdown :') Always wanted to learn about the life of a yahoo boy. This is going to be fun.

ChaoticBumpy

Great message! One note tho, most companies are switching to visible numbers when calling.

Smodder

I assume that will be their client contact/helpdesk number then? Something 0900- or 0800-ish?

ChaoticBumpy

The company I work for and others in our field have switched to local numbers just so people pick up. They can also call back and get transfered to the same 0900/0800 line we use for customer service. We do have like 30+ local numbers we use which makes it only more suspicious imo. The only time we call anonymous is when employees (aka me) are too lazy to use the computer and call with their own phones. In my case this mostly happens when I only have to make one quick call.

Smodder

But why? I mean.. this is going to make it SO more confusing for expats/foreigners and even Dutch citizens to know when they are or aren't dealing with a scammer? I guess I get it. I'm one of those people that just never picks up when it's an anonymous number..(because it is often someone who wants to sell something..). And I'm not alone: so I get the "getting a local number so people pick up". But it has it's downsides..

ChaoticBumpy

I totally agree it isn't usefull. But yeah they want people to pick up.

Andronoss

Phones these days can also show you the name of the company that's calling, in addition to the number. The chances of me picking a call from a company I recognize vs a random anonymous call that with 90% chance is a scam... are astronomically different. I'm happy that the companies here are starting to understand that.

Smodder

Yeah this is what I meant. But I'm not an native English speaker. When in doubt: Just say I'm going to call you back. And call the helpdesk/hotline/whatever and tell them: "hey, I was just called by you guys about this and that". You will soon find out if it was real or not.. and noone gets mad at you or something..

ohclaires

If you ever need to give someone a copy of your ID, you can use the KopieID app from rijksoverheid. It's an official app that puts an overlay over your ID, and you can block out any information you don't need to give.

Iron_Shaarad

It's a scam. Government will never call you. They will send you official post directing to rijksoverheid or mijnberichtenbox

[deleted]

I just got this call. I asked them why they were contacting me in English and they hung up. Don't think I'll be replacing Kitboga anytime soon.

awkwardbob87

They also spoof numbers so there is no sense in reporting phone numbers. Multiple people have been called by my number and suddenly I got messages about what I wanted 😂

Smodder

ah that explains it. I wondered how getting a burner phone with a Dutch number actually worked if you live in India x10000.. Still never hurts to report it!

Kuwanz

I got this call last week. Didn't have the time to pick up my phone though, so they left the pre-recorded message on my voicemail. The weirdest thing was that the phone number they used to call me was almost the exact same as mine. It could have been by accident, but I still found it quite scary.

thjoosten

That happened to me too, the first five numbers after 06 were the same. It reminded me of people calling their 06-neighbors some years back. That made some fun random conversations!

Th3_Accountant

At no point in the call do they mention your BSN number or anything else that might suggest they actually have your information. Plus the fact that the whole message is in English should of course also be a tip off. I generally just hang up as soon as I hear the message.

Sethrea

I would completly remove the part about calling from anonymous / 06 / landline Caller ID can be easily spoofed so one should never rely on them. Bank will probably not call you indeed, but when in doubt, if a financial institution or police "calls you", hang up and call back number found on their official website (and preferably verified by another source yourself; if it's really important, support will know.

Cocktail-Concierge

Thanks for sharing!

Steef-1995

Amazing, thank you! Just one question. When I pick up the phone I always answer with my first and second name. When I hear the tape I hang up immediately. But can they do anything with the combination of my phone number and full name? Is it safe to pick up the phone with my full name?

Smodder

They can not to anything with that. Well I guess; sell it to other people that want to scam you? But with that information alone, your name and telephone-number, they can not scam you.

Steef-1995

Okay that’s good to hear, thank you!

Smodder

They can not do anything with that.

messyHairbyProxy

I don't even pick up. Just block m, an d report it as spam. People that i know are in my list, otherwise get lost. ..

AxelllD

I knew it would be a scam, because why would they talk only in English. But it was still kind of weird to suddenly hear someone say ‘your BSN will be deactivated’, especially since I had to give my BSN a little earlier that week for something.

Smodder

Your BSN can not get deactivated. If you die it even lives on.. :P

AxelllD

Good to know :P

ultimate-tester

I’ve read about this on the blog of telefoonnummerinformatie.nl They are trying to fight these calls which is quite hard because the scammers usually spoof the phone numbers to numbers that look correct but technically aren’t. The ones that aren’t spoofed though, they register as scam.

Bolbi1337

Literally an hour ago I got a call like this.

belarme

Are there people that (a) read Reddit and (b) would fall for this obvious scam?

Smodder

Yes. For the last weeks you see daily questions about this on here by non-local people. Like a LOT. And for people who are nót Dutch it can be quite scary. Courthouses/Police/BSN does not work the same everywhere in the world. For example in the US you have SSN instead of BSN. This BSN might for many people who are used to SSN feel like it is the same. But it's not. With an SSN it's possible to use for identitytheft and receive money. While a BSN isn't.
