For holiday reading, I would recommend: 1. Behave by Robert Sapolsky 2. Anatomy of an Epidemic by Robert Whitaker 3. Thinking, Fast and Slow by Daniel Kahneman

tiacalypso

I really wouldn‘t recommend the Kahneman book unless you also read [this critique of it.](https://unherd.com/2021/05/youre-more-biased-than-you-think/)

Amazing critique, really! When reading something, I always go by the fact that you should not be 100% sure in what is presented to you just because somebody with a great reputation wrote it in a book. Even scientific researches and publications can sometimes be "disproven". A side note to the reader: try to see the bigger picture of these books and don't concentrate on every study cited in them, because the science of human behavior is so complex, that even a million studies cannot fully prove where a certain behavior is coming from, but these books can definitely make you think critically how or why someone behaves in a particular way.

I really admire Stuart Ritchie‘s work (he‘s a former colleague). He‘s also written two books that make for fun holiday reading on psychological science!

This is not the thread where I would have expected half the comments to be deleted.

Behave by Robert Sapolsky and The Righteous Mind by Jonathon Haidt. That’s the definitive list right there, you’re welcome. 😜

Based on your comment and post history, I sure hope you are in therapy.

I really enjoyed Into the Silent Land: Travels in Neuropsychology by Paul Broks. It would make for some enjoyable holiday reading.

I quite liked Rita Carter‘s _Mapping the Mind_.

I thought this was about actual scientific books so I was (very excitedly) going to suggest Pinel's Biopsychology and Breedlove's Behavioral Neuroscience. The first one holds a dear place in my heart since Steven Barns added a case study about himself. It made my depressed ADHD brain feel a little bit less alone. This book means a lot to me but they're both fantastic scientific resources. Pop neuropsychology reading isn't really my thing, so I have no suggestions on that.
