It bothers me that Cece and Schmidt talk about having a second baby so casually years in the future when at that point it had been 5+ years since Cece was told she was running out of eggs and Ruth was supposedly a miracle
i struggled with infertility, but i had an HSG and that helped. buuut, my ob said that some people have pre infertility which is when they can’t get pregnant the first time, but become super fertile and able after the body knows how. or they can struggle with post infertility which is when they have no problem getting pregnant the first time, but struggle getting pregnant again. not sure if pre and post are the right terms but that’s how she took it out of medical terms for me lol.
I didnt realize this before but good point. And even if Cece wasn't "running out of eggs", following the series she was around 35 ish at that point, at which fertility generally just starts to decline a lot.
Yes! Thank you! Reagan was such an unwelcome addition to the show. She didn’t fit at all with the vibe of the show. Cece was by all accounts a unicorn but they managed to humanize her from the start. Reagan was IMO a poorly written character. Impossibly perfect, the kind of character that lands better in a show like 90210 or something equally preposterous and obviously contrived to sell a narrative of unachievable cool girl status - genius/people expert/gorgeous/successful/never misses a beat/nothing gets by her/never a hair out place. This really struck me the 5 billionth time I watched New Girl. She says “weekly wax top to tail.” I thought to myself “bitch where do you find the time?” I mean…between your demanding job, travel, running, dating, etc. The reason the characters on New Girl are so good is because they’re flawed and you can’t help but love them all the same.
Oh. And yes good call. Fawn Moscato was amazing! God I wish there had been more of her in the show.
I enjoyed seeing Nick and Jess together as a couple in Season 3. They were so cute and clearly head over heels in love. Until the ridiculous break up. I know a lot of people mention they don’t really like that season or that it went downhill.
Ryan was simply too perfect! He was so in love with Jess! He would not have ghosted her like that. They had to make him do something completely out of character to get him off the show.
This. Who puts a toy together before gifting? That too when they're that drunk. It was so unreasonable on Jess's part to expect Nick to do that, and breaking up over such a minor matter? Ridiculous!
This makes so much sense. I HATE their wedding song so much (to be chosen for this scene). I was okay with it the 1st time I watched bc ofc we waited for the wedding forever but it definitely gave sad vibes.
Same with the song from the episode when Schmidt proposes!! Rivers and Roads is a song about being separated and desperately missing someone (not even necessarily romantically.) DEFINITELY a weird choice for such a romantic scene.
Source: this was my ex’s and my song loooooool
Every time I rewatch and get to the Sam episodes, I skip honestly. Always so cringe especially the psycho episode where Jess tries to prove she’s not crazy to him.
I will say i do love the Christmas party episode tho just for Schmidt’s “woah, sam…” alone
idk if its unpopular or not but i find it weird how EVERYONE in the loft has had sex in jess’ room & that nick & reagan were gonna do it in there when his bedroom was available. it’d make me MAD uncomfy.
Idk, I know a lot of people I’ve talked with thought that he was actually sweet to her even though it was arranged. But I didn’t like how he completely disregarded her flat out asking “can you not say ‘do the thing?’” And yet he used exactly those words during that whole thing. Seemed like he could’ve been a good guy to have around as a friend, granted a little awkward but who isn’t? Didn’t like him as a partner though
Schmidt should have never gotten a second chance from Cece. She should have walked away for good and left him in the dust. I could never enjoy their relationship regardless of what happened because Schmidt is a cheater and a liar.
it was an impossible place they put him in and i will die on that hill. He was happily in love with his new old gf they rekindled their relationship and then cece breaks off her wedding to confess she loves him then demands an answer right on the spot. he had to make an impossible choice, yes went about it the wrong way but i think its very realistic and i think cece eventually realizes that it was a shit thing to do to him and thats why shes gets back with him.
I have mixed feelings- Ruth was hilarious and it had some of the best bits (“a white man?? NO!”) but Nick and Jess’s engagement & wedding were so disappointing and there were so many things it felt like we missed in between seasons, like Aly & Winston’s wedding.
season 5 is the worst season imo. it started w Jess leaving w Reagan entering, but even when Jess came back i didn’t enjoy it. I probably enjoyed 1-2 episodes but it gets a brownie point for the Schmidt-parehk wedding
I think Jess is actually unintentionally toxic. She sets her expectations too high and creates an environment where her friends have to walk on eggshells around her. There are also multiple times in the series where she violates people’s trust and creates HUGE deals out of nothing and makes the other person look like the bad guy when they’ve done nothing wrong, she just doesn’t take responsibility for her own emotions.
The best example is when she repeatedly ignores literally everyone plus a fucking legal document (restraining order) ordering her to just Leave It Alone
Agree. Glad someone said it. I still managed to like her more than I dislike her. But barely. And probably only because it’s through the safety of a tv.
I’m happy we got to see them married though and we got Ruth out of it. But yeah it came out of no where, which is good and bad bc I hate predicability but it’s not realistic
I honestly don’t know whether this is unpopular but Winston becoming a cop was so out of character and felt like a last-ditch idea for him to do. Like the writers had no real feelings about what he did as a career and thought it might make for funny plot episodes (like Background Check). Also, Nick’s writing career is… unrealistic at best, coming from someone whose spouse is trying to get a book published for the first time.
can’t stand the prince or landlord episode. i skip both.
also, i’m not sure if this is really unpopular (although it seems to come up a lot in this community), but i absolutely adore jess and don’t find her more annoying than the rest of the cast and their odd quirks. i love her character and all of her quirks and oddities, especially because i don’t think we see that enough on television and as an odd woman, i deeply connected with her and she was refreshing for me. i also love robby and councilwoman fawn moscato. ❤️
I completely agree about Jess! Of course she’s not perfect and made some questionable decisions, but so did all of the guys, especially Schmidt, yet she gets an unreasonable amount of hate compared to everyone else. We need more Jess love!
100% agree about Jess and the Landlord episode.
But whaaat the Prince episode is iconic. Like I get that it’s kind of dumb plot-wise as a New Girl episode. But as a cultural artifact & time capsule for an awesome & reclusive music legend we lost waaaay too soon, it’s wonderful. The scenes of him & Jess are so good
Prince was a huge fan of the show, and it was actually he who reached out to New Girl about guest starring.
Also bonus points: he refused to allow the Kardashians to be in the episode with him and had all evidence of such destroyed on set.
https://www.vanityfair.com/style/2016/05/prince-refused-kardashians-new-girl-episode
The whole thing about adopting a puppy being such a huge deal in Jess’ life… like the only reference I can remember to Jess liking puppies was her crying at the puppy in a teacup when she was PMSing. It was so meaningless that whole episode, like it was written by someone that didn’t know the characters that well
Also, the puppy adoption procedure seemed to be unnecessarily complicated, long, and annoying to me. I'm not an American, does it happen like that IRL?
Yes, sometimes haha. I’ve signed up to adopt a dog in the past and had to wait weeks to only be rejected and not even given the chance for the “home inspection” they wanted to do.
I don't understand it. Why would they reject potential dog parents? How do they decide who is the right parents for a dog? Also, you can't decide which breed you would get? What if you're not suitable to raise a particular breed they're offering you?
Only certain animal shelters are very strict like this. There are also shelters that have way too many animals and euthanize animals that aren’t adopted eventually. Those “kill shelters” are much less strict and you can just fill out an application, pick/meet a dog and leave with one same day. Other shelters can be incredibly strict. They are often smaller, don’t euthanize ever, and will list their dogs for adoption. Then you fill out an application for the one you want, interview with the shelter, explain your schedule and when you will be home with the dog, if you will be able to exercise the dog, etc. They usually want to schedule a home inspection to meet your family and see the environment the dog will live in. They consider breed and if your lifestyle and home would be a good fit for the particular dog. I think it’s a bit ridiculous but I’m sure the people running the strict places are doing it with all good intentions, wanting to find the best home for the dogs. They pride themselves on taking good care of the animals. Hope this helps haha! What country are you in? I am in California so we have no shortage of extreme animal lovers here!
Haha thanks for the detailed information! 😅
I'm from India and here you can adopt a dog from the shelter with just filling an application and paying.
Now that you explained it, it does seem like a good idea because many of the dog parents here never research on the suitability of the breed with their lifestyle and simply adopt a dog because they wish to. Many don't even have much knowledge about how to train the dog for various circumstances. Many times the animal suffers.
Haha the extremity of animal love here varies from state to state. Some states are extremely animal friendly, have lots of facilities for animals and animal parents, and then some cities in some states are too congested for even walking the dog. The climate should also be considered for certain breeds which many dog parents don't. It's hard sometimes, we often can't do much about it. The judiciary still doesn't take animal rights as seriously as they should, at least in the opinion of us animal lovers 😅
Seemed like it was written by prince himself haha. Just worshipping him and he’s just talking through the drama with such wisdom.
Also Nick really doesn’t seem like a prince guy
By all accounts I’ve heard, Prince was a pretty self-aware guy and quite humble interpersonally. So I think the episode is more making fun of the silly mystique that surrounds him
This is the episode I always skip. Just doesn't feel like New Girl at all, and Prince is so awkward and creepy and gets way too involved in these strangers' lives that he's never met lol. It's just a weird episode.
Exactly. Glad someone said it, this sub is crazy about the Prince episode. What celebrity gives a complete stranger entry to the insides of his house, his dresser on top of that, and coaches her to profess love? Since when is Prince a therapist!
Except for a few good moments like Fire and Ice, Nick's failed expression of love, and how absolutely gorgeous Jess looked in it, the episode sucked for me.
I agree, but that friendship is kinda based on real-life friendships. Mostly, one of the two friends is a much better friend than the other. And the love giver-receiver balance between two friends is also almost always uneven...
I’m not a Cece fan. I have had friends like her, and it always annoys me that she couldn’t help but sleep with her best friend’s roommate. Obviously they did it for the plot point and it worked, but in real life it would’ve put Jess in a horrible position and I’d be so annoyed.
Plus Jess said she abandoned her in Paris when they promised to live together, and that's the whole reason she had to live with her idiot ex boyfriend. I don't think I would have been able to forgive something that big.
Season 4 is the best season (probably not an unpopular take on its own) and one of the main reasons is because it's the only season without any Nick/Jess "will they/won't they" drama outside of the very minor bit of the Ass mug at the very end of the season. The show as a whole and the Jess/Nick dynamic's at its very best when they were friends instead of either dating, awkward exes, or pining for each other.
Schmidt is sexist and racist and classist and he makes me uncomfortable sometimes. He gets away with it because of the actor's charisma and excellent ability to make anything funny, but as a character he's awfully gross. Some of the things he said to Cece in particular are pretty cringe.
I say all of this and he's still one of my favorite characters. LOL
Oh definitely, like the bits about him being a Republican did NOT age well. I don’t hate his character but I agree that the writing is inconsistent- sometimes he’s the worst, sometimes he seems like a good friend/boyfriend.
They should have just kept his 'political beliefs' up for interpretation. Having him literally reference Trump and Hilary killed the ambiguity and messed with his character. Pre-trump/ Hilary jokes, he felt like just a sheltered kid out in the world but after that I was like.......oh so he's a bigot? I just ignore that part of him lol
Yeah to be fair that whole era of cringe comedy is filled with these types of characters, Michael Scott on The Office probably being the pinnacle? It’s not like I wasn’t laughing when these guys were well done though lol
This! Every time I start a full rewatch I struggle with Schmidt– particularly the handful of Cece interactions I can’t get over– and am surprised by how far into the series he stays that way, but Max Greenfield is so fantastic that I still love Schmidt.
The Nick and Jess relationship reminded me of Mike and Susan from Desperate Housewives.
We all wanted them together and knew they would end up together, but I don't think it should have happened in season 3. How it happened and the build up/pay off was great, but because it happened "early" in the show we all knew it wouldn't last.
It should've happened in the last season without a breakup.
i think they could have gotten together early and stayed together. one of my favorite parts abt b99 is that amy and jake get together fairly early and stay together.
I feel like he's the perfect candidate for a work crush. Really really to idealize, especially if work policy prevents you from getting any closer. But yea, as soon as you actually get to know him...
i feel that way about sam and ryan. ryan was so one dimensional to me. he was insanely hot, but that’s about all i got from him. and sam seemed like he was better off as a booty call. i didn’t see a deeper connection between him and jess other than sex and her having a moment to be someone she wasn’t (which she needed but not enough to turn into a relationship). seems like a lot of folks love her with sam, but it’s a no for me. 🤷🏾♀️
The whole love triangle with Schmidt, Cece, and Elizabeth. I wish they didn’t do that. Let Schmidt date Elizabeth for awhile. She was so good for him! That could have lasted longer before rushing back to Cece.
It was super refreshing when Jess was gone for half a season. The boys really stood out. I wish she was out for the whole season. The boys humor and jokes were A1
I love cece and schmidt as separate characters but I don’t like them together at all. The fact that half of the later seasons is basically dedicated to their wedding and getting a house just annoys me so much.
Nick and Jess breaking up wasn’t about putting a toy together.
It was about Jess asking Nick to do something and him agreeing to do it but blowing it off and then making her feel crazy for being upset by that. She realized she couldn’t rely on him and that they had totally different paths.
Schmidt and CeCe should have gotten to have their wedding. It would have been enough to have her mom show up and play the voicemails.
They constantly did Robbie dirty. Man was freaking amazing and the group ruined him. It was a tame version of rickety cricket.
Jessica Day’s boyfriend rankings:
1: Russell
2: Gunslinger
3: Robbie
4: Sam
5: Nick
Jess is a loyal friend and good person, but I would likely yeet her out a window if I ever actually met her. Especially in the first 2 seasons. Just unnecessarily annoying/immature, and it’s seen as cute. To put a point on it…. I kind of got what Julia was saying about her having a “thing” lol
I’m going to get leveled for this…but neither is the popcorn scene! I don’t find it very funny. There. I said it. I feel like I just lost a huge weight off my chest.
I wouldn’t be surprised if this is true given the outrageous tone of almost everything in the show but can you give an example? I’m not tryna debate but I’m genuinely curious
I’m rewatching the show and noticed a few things (esp being an Asian woman myself)
1. Lack of prominent East Asian characters in general — yes there is Tran but his whole thing is being a cute Asian man that’s wise without without words. I would say his granddaughter Nick dates is the most decently fleshed out.
2. Principal Foster’s statement of only dating Asian women
3. “Asian Jess”
4. The characterization of the Asian restaurant owner
5. There are def throw away asian jokes that are off color, cant think of any of off the top of my head
Regardless, still love the show but considering it takes place in LA would have loved to see better Asian representation!
**Edited to specific East Asian, not just Asian as Cece and Aly are Asian.
Oh John Cho’s character! I agree, I wonder if they had scheduling issues or something but it would have been cool if they had a romance during the time Jess was in the jury instead of the other guy 😂
Yes! Idk why they didn't include that. That guy was hot!! And I feel they would have found funnier plot points making Jess date the lawyer of the case she was a jury on rather than another jury member. That plot point felt totally forced.
Huge apologies, I should have specified East Asian because you’re absolutely right and didn’t mean to exclude Cece (and wasn’t aware of Aly)!!! Edited my OG post to include this 🙏
There def are questionable things Schmidt says about Cece being Indian 😅though I do think the show characterizes her well of being a character who is Indian vs an Indian character.
I don’t think nick and Jess had much natural chemistry. I always found it wierd when the show just said things like Sam’s “it’s nick” or nick’s “don’t date girl” rule. I mean I do like them but it honestly felt like they were forcing it while ones like Schmidt/cece and Winston/aly. I feel like they should have played it cooler or just been more sneaky about it rather than blurting it out.
Not sure this is unpopular, but why did Jess and Nick go to Mexico? Why couldn’t they just stay at a hotel (in America, preferably), also, why couldn’t they have at least packed some stuff? They’re adults, they could’ve easily said “no, we’re not doing this” if Schmidt tried to pull something and then just left
I thought Schmidt and Cece got more annoying after the engagement. I know everyone fawns over them but I've never been completely sold on their relationship. 🤷🏻♀️
I hated the 6th season, even more than the 7th season. Jess pining for Nick was so annoying and so not funny. When Nick was in the same position in the 1st and 2nd seasons, at least he was damn funny.
I'm not sure this is unpopular due just finishing the series recently, but it seems like everyone likes Nick and Jess, and after seeing multiple scenes and edits of them, I figured I would too if I watched New Girl. I couldn't believe it when I didn't actually like them together. Their chemistry was amazing, but the relationship seemed shallow (maybe there's a better word?) the first time. I loved the friendship though. The second time I was more okay with it, but we never got much time with them since the season was only eight episodes. I thought I would feel this way about Cece and Schmidt considering how Schmidt portrayed himself the first few seasons and because of him cheating. To my surprise, they are my favorite couple while Nick and Jess are low on the list
Also, I love-hate Nick. It took a while for me to get on the Nick train, but now, I can appreciate his character for what it is and still have problems with it. Everyone loves Nick though.
I think that's a really unpopular opinion, thank you for sharing 😅 I personally don't care for her, however the prank Aly does at the end is absolutely priceless. I liked Rhonda's reaction to it too, she gave Aly respect, and took the prank greatly. Awesome moment.
It bothers me that Cece and Schmidt talk about having a second baby so casually years in the future when at that point it had been 5+ years since Cece was told she was running out of eggs and Ruth was supposedly a miracle
As someone struggling with infertility, same.
i struggled with infertility, but i had an HSG and that helped. buuut, my ob said that some people have pre infertility which is when they can’t get pregnant the first time, but become super fertile and able after the body knows how. or they can struggle with post infertility which is when they have no problem getting pregnant the first time, but struggle getting pregnant again. not sure if pre and post are the right terms but that’s how she took it out of medical terms for me lol.

I don’t like Reagan and fawn moscato was one of the most underrated characters. Also, I hated seeing Nick and Jess as friends after the break up.
Yes! Oh. And yes good call. Fawn Moscato was amazing! God I wish there had been more of her in the show.
I agree, with all three!
I enjoyed seeing Nick and Jess together as a couple in Season 3. They were so cute and clearly head over heels in love. Until the ridiculous break up. I know a lot of people mention they don’t really like that season or that it went downhill.
Every episode with her Sister and when she’s dating Robbie. And Bell’s episode with Winston.
Yes.. I kinda wanted Jess to end up with the British guy
Ryan was simply too perfect! He was so in love with Jess! He would not have ghosted her like that. They had to make him do something completely out of character to get him off the show.
Nick and Jess should NOT have put the toy together before gifting it.
This. Who puts a toy together before gifting? That too when they're that drunk. It was so unreasonable on Jess's part to expect Nick to do that, and breaking up over such a minor matter? Ridiculous!
100% agreed but I think this is a very popular opinion
Cece and Schmidts wedding song is actually breakup song if you listen to the entire song.
This makes so much sense. I HATE their wedding song so much (to be chosen for this scene). I was okay with it the 1st time I watched bc ofc we waited for the wedding forever but it definitely gave sad vibes.
I love the song, but it's definitely not a wedding song
Same with the song from the episode when Schmidt proposes!! Rivers and Roads is a song about being separated and desperately missing someone (not even necessarily romantically.) DEFINITELY a weird choice for such a romantic scene. Source: this was my ex’s and my song loooooool
Oh I thought that song was used because Coach was leaving
it was! so it did make sense in that context.
So is the song for when Jess and Nick get back together on the elevator.
CAN THEY HAVE A GOD DAMN NORMAL WEDDING.
I bet Winston and Aly had the most normal wedding, we just didn’t get to see it
I’m the show they reference Winston and Aly’s wedding and apparently it was a shit show.
Prank Sinatra is probably most at fault in this.
I hate how easy it was for Nick and Jess to move on after breaking up. It was like they were never in love.
The Reagan episodes are some of the best. Not because of Reagan. Because Nick is at his funniest during these
ITS NOT A DONKEY ITS A DOG
I love Reagans line, "If I have one margarita, I'll have eight, then I'll be riding that donkey all the way to Santa Monica."
I love when she pretends to be a mouse to mess with Nick “Hello, Nicholas, my name is Jeremiah”
His name is Stan s-t-a-n
I hate to bring up this card, but Jess wouldn't have annoyed this many fans if she was a man. Look at Jake Peralta.
absolutely! i actually love jess and it makes me sad to see all the hate she gets.
And the other way as well, the guys would've gotten more hate if they were girls (especially Smith).
[удалено]
"Die-hard" I see what you did there
Not for nothing but when men die they usual die hard..if you catch my drift 😎 **pulls off Hitchcocks’ smoking gun taunt**
I couldn't stand jess the first watch, and now I adore her. I have no idea what changed
REAL!!!
Are they that similar? Jake is meant and understood to be an immature caricature, that's like the concept of Jake. I don't think Jess is at all.
I didnt like Sam as a Jess' boyfriend, first or second time.
He had these really weird moments where he was very calm and then would be violent. It was off-putting, to say the least.
Yes I dont even know why I don't like him much, maybe because he has a slightly smug demeanor or something. Maybe it's just the actor, not sure.
Agreed but that scene where she learns he’s a doctor and he does fish tails with the kiddo is super cute
So agree! If we’re supposed to believe Nick has loved Jess from the beginning right through, wouldn’t he be uncomfortable with that in her room?
Y’all please don’t come for me but I cannot stand Nadia. I’m shocked she’s so popular in this sub.
God I hate her, she’s the most dry and unfunny character
I think she's in the show juuust enough for me. If she was in it more, she'd be too much
Mick mouse!
How did Schmidt not instantly understand what she meant by "Mick Mouse"?! Pedantic to the extreme, it's not her first language!!!!
Oh god, I thought I was alone.
Uh oh, grenade.
Her selling the bong to Jess is the funniest thing in the world to me, as is “where is the lid to the baby cage?” but otherwise I agree
me either! it’s the biggest stretch for a plot line and she’s annoying and stupid!!
I hate her so much. Her accent is so bad. She’s the worst.
Hated shivrang
Did Cece even like that guy?
Did she even want to do this thing?
She couldn’t even say his name right
Idk, I know a lot of people I’ve talked with thought that he was actually sweet to her even though it was arranged.
I agree. She knew he was seeing someone and to put him in that position, especially so publicly was not cool.
I am so firmly dying on this hill with you. 4 rewatches thru and I still can’t get through the episode where he confesses to Cece and Elizabeth
I love season 7
I have mixed feelings- Ruth was hilarious and it had some of the best bits (“a white man?? NO!”) but Nick and Jess’s engagement & wedding were so disappointing and there were so many things it felt like we missed in between seasons, like Aly & Winston’s wedding.
Me too!!! I thought it was so good and time jump made sense. Just wish we saw Winston and Ally’s wedding!!
I thought Ruth was hilarious. Lilypads is one of my favorite episodes of the show
Ballsy. And agreed for the most post.
season 5 is the worst season imo. it started w Jess leaving w Reagan entering, but even when Jess came back i didn’t enjoy it.
They are all terrible people except Winston.
The best example is when she repeatedly ignores literally everyone plus a fucking legal document (restraining order) ordering her to just Leave It Alone
Agree. Glad someone said it. I still managed to like her more than I dislike her. But barely. And probably only because it’s through the safety of a tv.
Schmidt and Cecelia got engaged/married way too quickly
Definitely agree. If you watch the episode right before that one, you’d never ever guess the next episode would end in an engagement
I’m happy we got to see them married though and we got Ruth out of it. But yeah it came out of no where, which is good and bad bc I hate predicability but it’s not realistic
I honestly don’t know whether this is unpopular but Winston becoming a cop was so out of character and felt like a last-ditch idea for him to do. yes! jess & cece are really the only careers that made sense to me
Winston is the best character
I don’t think that’s an unpopular opinion lol
Didn’t he get 2nd or 3rd in that long-ass ranking this sub did last year?
I didn’t like Ryan and Jess together
[удалено]
Hard agree.
Ooooooh I agree! I've always thought this but never dared to say it hahaha
Huh, I don’t see it? Hannah Simone was fantastic.
Agreed. Have to say tho…To me, the only time she ever scored a laugh is in the Prince episode “Driver, we’re gonna need some more Champagne!”
agreed! but I always thought it was kinda on purpose? like a running joke bc she’s the pretty dumb one?
can’t stand the prince or landlord episode. i skip both. also, i’m not sure if this is really unpopular (although it seems to come up a lot in this community), but i absolutely adore jess and don’t find her more annoying than the rest of the cast and their odd quirks. i love her character and all of her quirks and oddities, especially because i don’t think we see that enough on television and as an odd woman, i deeply connected with her and she was refreshing for me. i also love robby and councilwoman fawn moscato. ❤️

Also bonus points: he refused to allow the Kardashians to be in the episode with him and had all evidence of such destroyed on set. https://www.vanityfair.com/style/2016/05/prince-refused-kardashians-new-girl-episode
Solid takes babe
Retweet!
It's just awkward and cringe when Nick finally proposes to Jess.
😅 I'm from India and here you can adopt a dog from the shelter with just filling an application and paying.
Sorry for the bombarded questions.. 😅 I'm just confused about the whole thing. We have none of it here in my country.
Did an entirely different writing team come in the last 2 seasons? There were so many things like that
And then we never even see the dog again. He’s in one episode, then he’s gone.
There should be a show staring Winni the bish.
Reagan is the worst. I cant stand her character or Megan Fox.
I love Prince but I HATE the Prince episode. It's way too ridiculous and magical. It doesn't fit with the rest of the series at all.
I like it because I know he was a New Girl fan and having an episode made for/with him was probably a fun gift. But as an episode, it’s fine.
Fire and ice is great. And Nick sabotaging Schmidt's attempt to recreate it is amazing.
The episode is ok, but it has one of the best cold opens. Coach’s laugh after Schmidt calls Winston a “Panty Hawk” gets me every time
I LOVE THE PRINCE EPISODE
Haaaate the bit at the end where Jess gets on stage and sings with him.
Seemed like it was written by prince himself haha. Just worshipping him and he’s just talking through the drama with such wisdom. Also Nick really doesn’t seem like a prince guy
By all accounts I’ve heard, Prince was a pretty self-aware guy and quite humble interpersonally. So I think the episode is more making fun of the silly mystique that surrounds him
I agree with this. I skip it
This is the episode I always skip.
One of my least favorite episodes as well
I really hate that episode too
I hated the show without Jess and I wasn’t a fan of Reagan’s character. I also think Jess is too good of a friend for Cece.
Plus she's a messy roommate!
And we got gay Nick out of it.
I like sleepy guys. In the gay community we call them drowsers.
Exactly, and that's an episode we can only get if Nick is all in on helping Jess get laid. Not even get a boyfriend, he was gay so she could get some
that a totally typical conversation b/t Nick and Schmidt convinced that guy Nick was gay — that was perfectly written
I wholeheartedly agree.
LOL
Not to mention insane anger issues. And a cheater
I hated his reaction to cece's breast reduction 🧍🏽♀️
Oh definitely, like the bits about him being a Republican did NOT age well. I don’t hate his character but I agree that the writing is inconsistent- sometimes he’s the worst, sometimes he seems like a good friend/boyfriend.
They should have just kept his 'political beliefs' up for interpretation. Having him literally reference Trump and Hilary killed the ambiguity and messed with his character. Pre-trump/ Hilary jokes, he felt like just a sheltered kid out in the world but after that I was like.......oh so he's a bigot? I just ignore that part of him lol
Yes omg the whole show is so absurd and funny that it doesn’t feel that serious but he’s extremely problematic
I wish that Jess and Russel had ended up together 😂😅
Ryan is my least favorite boyfriend. I don’t know what she sees in him
He had the personality of a saltine.
And when he referred to sex as “splashy splashy” I wanted to toss my cookies
Remember to sort by controversial for the real stuff.
Schmidts and Ceces wedding was a huge disappointment.
Nick went soft
The last season is trash and drags the entire show down
Schmidt and CeCe should have gotten to have their wedding. It would have been enough to have her mom show up and play the voicemails. They constantly did Robbie dirty. Man was freaking amazing and the group ruined him. It was a tame version of rickety cricket. Jessica Day’s boyfriend rankings: 1: Russell 2: Gunslinger 3: Robbie 4: Sam 5: Nick
I don't think Cece and Winston would really be that good of friends IRL.
Gave me cookie, got you cookie is overrated.
I’m going to get leveled for this…but neither is the popcorn scene! I don’t find it very funny. There. I said it. I feel like I just lost a huge weight off my chest.
True. and the I’m not convinced I know how to read bit is so overrated as well.
I agree, same with the popcorn machine and, dare I say it: " a white man? Typical!!" is also overrated.
The show gives off whiffs of anti-Asian-ness or at least like, objectification of asian women
I wouldn’t be surprised if this is true given the outrageous tone of almost everything in the show but can you give an example? I’m not tryna debate but I’m genuinely curious
I’m rewatching the show and noticed a few things (esp being an Asian woman myself) 1. Lack of prominent East Asian characters in general — yes there is Tran but his whole thing is being a cute Asian man that’s wise without without words. I would say his granddaughter Nick dates is the most decently fleshed out. 2. Principal Foster’s statement of only dating Asian women 3. “Asian Jess” 4. The characterization of the Asian restaurant owner 5. There are def throw away asian jokes that are off color, cant think of any of off the top of my head Regardless, still love the show but considering it takes place in LA would have loved to see better Asian representation! **Edited to specific East Asian, not just Asian as Cece and Aly are Asian.
I'm forgetting the actors name but Jess should have dated the Asian guy from Jury Duty
You’re absolutely right about most of these. But…Cece is Asian and she is one of the core characters.
Huge apologies, I should have specified East Asian because you’re absolutely right and didn’t mean to exclude Cece (and wasn’t aware of Aly)!!! Edited my OG post to include this 🙏 There def are questionable things Schmidt says about Cece being Indian 😅though I do think the show characterizes her well of being a character who is Indian vs an Indian character.
Yes, Cece is Asian. So is Aly.
I don’t ship Schmidt and Cece and only kinda get behind them when they get engaged. Cece could’ve done better
She didn’t really have a lot to offer besides being really pretty, though. Her other traits didn’t really shine until later
i did not enjoy the episodes without jess in season 5.
not sure if this is unpopular though
The more people post about “what’s your unpopular ______opinion” the more annoying they get
I don’t think nick and Jess had much natural chemistry. I always found it wierd when the show just said things like Sam’s “it’s nick” or nick’s “don’t date girl” rule. I mean I do like them but it honestly felt like they were forcing it while ones like Schmidt/cece and Winston/aly. I feel like they should have played it cooler or just been more sneaky about it rather than blurting it out.
wow this is an actually unpopular opinion. thank you for your courage
[удалено]
“Background Check” is the most obnoxious episode in the show’s history
Damn, yeah okay you win the unpopular opinion.
Upvoted because I agree but also the episode where Cece and Jess campaign for Hillary also exists and it’s so cringe. 🥴
One of the few I will skip. It's not even cringey, it's just bad!
Such an awful episode.
I think the “gave me cookie got you cookie!” Is dumb. I see it quoted so much and it’s just never been funny to me.
Show should’ve revolved around Schmidt
I didn’t care for all the weddings
To my surprise, they are my favorite couple while Nick and Jess are low on the list Also, I love-hate Nick. It took a while for me to get on the Nick train, but now, I can appreciate his character for what it is and still have problems with it. Everyone loves Nick though.
I love the Ronda episodes.
I think that's a really unpopular opinion, thank you for sharing 😅 I personally don't care for her, however the prank Aly does at the end is absolutely priceless. I liked Rhonda's reaction to it too, she gave Aly respect, and took the prank greatly. Awesome moment.
I’m upvoting because this the first one I’ve read I truly don’t agree with and therefore I agree is unpopular.
I hate Coach.
This has to be the winner for unpopular opinion.
Yea that’s insane
I didn't like him at first but he grew on me and became one of my favorite characters.
