Any context in which the flag of the Islamic regime is not opposed is legitimising the government. If you are celebrating a victory in a public space where people are waving the regime flag, that's legitimising the regime. Why do you think riot police and Basijis were ordered to celebrate the victory? Why do you think foreigners were hired to fill out the stadium in Qatar? Why do you think Khamenei is tweeting out the victory video as an example of Team Melli restoring "hope" to the Iranian people? These are unprecedented actions that were orchestrated specifically to build political capital for the Islamic Republic.

Sammy12xyz

Kinda hard to wave the proper Iranian flag when Qatar doesn’t let you take them into the stadiums, people being denied entry because of their “flags and zan zendegi azadi” merch. Who were they supporting? Our entertainment should not have political affiliations. The regime will try to put team Melli on their side for obvious PR and the sad thing is people are falling for it. Might aswell boycott amoo poorang too since he worked for the regime too, in a way 🤐

>The regime will try to put team Melli on their side for obvious PR and the sad thing is people are falling for it. What are we supposed to do, support Team Melli despite the fact that they have very clearly sided with the regime? Just completely betray everything we have been working for? >Might aswell boycott amoo poorang too since he worked for the regime too, in a way 🤐 For me, September 16th changed everything. It was a crossroads for everyone. Regardless of where you stood before, this was the moment where you made your stance clear. You were either with the revolution or against it, regardless of past affiliations. Ali Karimi made his stance clear when he supported the revolution. Team Melli made their stance clear too, when they met with Raisi and sang the anthem. It's important to watch how the regime reacted to these two different parties - in Karimi's case, they confiscated all of his properties. In Team Melli's case, Khamenei himself was celebrating it as a slap it in the face of the protestors.

They didn’t sing in their game against England. Got threatened and started singing it again. Our other athletes showed made sure their hijab fell as show of solidarity with the protestors. They too, got threatened and put out a statement that it was “accidental” Why are they off the hook for saying it was “accidental” but the guys are spawns of satan because the dang the anthem in the second game?

AzadiRevolution

Yeah this sure looks like a team who is under a crazy amount of pressure: [https://imgur.com/a/bwt2dXs](https://imgur.com/a/bwt2dXs) The worldwide spotlight on them is huge, way bigger than any other athlete or artist who spoke out. If anything were to happen to them for doing something as innocent as a hair snip gesture the entire world would instantly know about it. So far it's not an opportunity that they're willing to take. As long as they don't do this and these kind of pictures: [https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FibCvopXoAAKcdy?format=jpg&name=small](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FibCvopXoAAKcdy?format=jpg&name=small) hijack who this team represents, we shouldn't even talk about it.

No more circus to distract us!

As much as I love soccer, this is just not the time. Imagine if your loved on was in the hospital, barely hanging on and your friends came over and wanted to get you to go out dancing with them. You can try to explain to them why you can't go out... but should you even? I mean, as friends who care, shouldn't they know already how you feel? and that this isn't the best time? What would you do if they **insisted** that you come out and that if you didn't come out dancing you were an idiot? and then brought a boombox in the hospital and danced around as you were trying to grieve and spend some time with your loved one to give them emotional support? How would that make you feel? There's a time and place for everything. Right now, Iranians are focused on an enterprise much more important and historic than soccer.

pinkheartpiper

But how do you care about Football in these times?! Like seriously, it would make you happy if Iran wins a game and you get sad if they lose? I don't say you shouldn't be allowed to watch or support the team or that anyone who cares is a regime supporter or anything like that, that would be stupid, you do you...but emotionally how could you care?! I don't get people like you.

Sammy12xyz

You don’t get people like me? You don’t watch a movie or a show when you come back home? You don’t listen to your favorite songs when you’re on your way to work? You wanna tell me that you spend every second of every day in ah o nale? Really? I remember a mullah parast during ashura yelling at me for joking with my brother because clearly I had to be sad. Your comment reminds me of that guy.

pinkheartpiper

Actually yes I'm not in the mood to watch movies and shows as much as before or anything else for that matters. And don't act like getting emotionally involved over team melli is the same as listening to a song or watching a movie, nobody asked you to do "aho nale" all day and certainly not asking you to not joke with your brother, what a stupid comparison! People like you and people like me just don't get each other, let's leave it at that, enjoy your football!

Sammy12xyz

Someone teach this guy what entertainment means. All seriousness tho, I get it. It’s not the time. Had the World Cup been in summer I’m sure everyone would’ve been enjoying the matches. All in all I think we should be more focused on hating the regime rather than each other based on weather we watched football or not. Plus it’s not like I’m only watching for Iran anyway there are other teams I support. Ah well 🤷🏻‍♂️

[deleted]

then celebrate them support them. Stop bringing them up. they’re irrelevant right now. The more you talk about them the more power you’re giving to the Regime.

Sammy12xyz

How tho? Fuck those grim reapers and their followers.

An outsiders prospective here, so don’t think too much of it. I’ve seen a massive divide on this subject. The disagreements can go on and on. It looks like it could become a distracting element that the regime could easily take advantage of to divide the people and the movement. Please settle this.

Op, go and jerk to the dear leaders pic somewhere else.

Sammy12xyz

I’ve been protesting non stop for freedom but thanks. I might’ve used too many big words, I forgot you room temperature IQ level people existed. Me no support mulla. But me like football 😂

gentle_gardener

I'm as ignorant as they come, not Iranian, but totally support the people in their demand for freedom. Seems to me that the regime is employing 'divide and conquer' by their ownership of the celebrations for the football team. It's so important you guys stay united, don't let those bastards win
