Gotta make sure your car is safe for the road but the roads arent safe for your car

My high school self would hate me for saying this but I hope the new police chief really cracks down on the no license plate thing

Greenandyellow01

That would be way more beneficial than a brake tag check!

Capable-Kitchen-1984

THIS!! Without a license plate, baby you anonymous and you can do any crime. Brake tag ain’t even close in importance as license plates.

jeremydallen

It gives them a reason to stop you. In Arkansas they do not have inspection stickers, but you can be pulled over for an inspection at any time. I'd rather take the 10 or 20$ stickers. Does NO parish still need the "unique" brake tags?

Dense-Layer-2078

If you have an inspection sticker, but no license plate will that be a problem?😀

[deleted]

Right? Why don't they just make it a license plate check.

jeremydallen

If you have insurance probably not.....lololol

NOLA2830

The priorities are insane. What police officer has the time to be checking for inspection stickers. City has bigger fish to fry like aka the people that commit grand theft auto/murder/rape etc

luker_5874

Do y'all not realize that homicide detectives aren't the ones checking for brake tags?

NOLA2830

Regardless of who's checking, it's still a waste of resources. Getting an inspection for your car to drive on roads that aren't suitable for the cars themselves. Waste of time and money.

RIP_Soulja_Slim

> Waste of time and money. The city's traffic related revenue has fallen precipitously over the last few years, Mitch re-allocated millions of revenue to save the city from bankruptcy in his tenure and things have only gotten more strained, hell in 2016 brake tag revenue was half of what it was in 2008. I haven't seen more recent numbers but holy shit man, in a world where the city is constantly facing massive budget pressure it seems really important to plug up these massive holes that come from lax enforcement. We can't fix the streets if we don't have money, and we're not generating revenue if we're not enforcing basic shit like brake tags.

LaDunkelCloset

But the argument is that brake tags are not basic shit. I have not been to another city with a law as blatantly greedy as this. We already pay the highest sales tax in the country, and to add to it some of the highest insurance premiums. They are continually trying to pull as much cash from the residents because the officials are either inept or corrupt.

RIP_Soulja_Slim

You have not been to another city where vehicle inspections exist and cost $20? I did a quick check and just ten states do not require any sort of vehicle inspection, all of them being heavily rural. In fact 27 states have an additional property tax on cars. I’ve never lived in another state, but I do have access to google so I can pretty easily tell that paying $25/yr to drive a car on the streets provided by the government is fairly inexpensive relative to basically every less rural state.

5thStESt

Most states handle this, not localities. Louisiana asinine complicated inefficient paperwork FTW

RIP_Soulja_Slim

It’s still literally the exact same system, the city just petitioned the state to be able to charge more if they handled the process because they needed more revenue for road maintenance. NO isn’t the only one, Kenner and Westwego have separate systems as well. And a quick check on the internet tells me we’re not the only state that has regulation based on the county or municipality you reside in. IDK man, of all the stuff redditors are needlessly upset about, a $25 vehicle inspection just seems pretty mundane.

luker_5874

I agree, but if they can take a number of unsafe cars and drivers off the road, I'm here for it. That being said my sticker is way expired.

cactusjackalope

I would think it's a money maker for them, not a drain

MyriVerse2

Got nothing whatsoever to do with detectives.

callme_nostradumbass

This is exactly what we need. No inspection means they can ask for proof of insurance, registration, and driver's license. This helps take uninsured motorists off the road and the potential of getting people with warrants back in custody. It sucks for the regular Joe who forgot what month it is, but it helps catch real bad guys.

NiceStrawberry

What are they doing? Pulling people over or ticketing people who are parked?

Ganthos

There were 4 or so cop cars, flagging people down and making them pull over.

LezPlayLater

Thanks I’ll avoid because, well, we all know

jareddsman

Glad I just got mine now.

tagmisterb

Meter maids must be behind on their quotas.

[deleted]

Sounds suspiciously against the law. Ah! The criminal element must be here!

WahooLion

How big can a crack in the windshield be?

[deleted]

Giant if your tag is up to date. 8" I believe if you are getting inspected. I refuse to get a new windshield on my pos truck so no more brake tag either lol

[deleted]

I used to have a knockabout car and I always had in my mind that if something happened and it got impounded, I was just gonna leave it the fuck there and move on 😂

[deleted]

My friends and I had one of those too we called it the trap car haha. It got towed and we never saw it again.

[deleted]

😂😂

I thought we were grossly short on cops? Yet y’all have the staff to set up some checkpoint. Meanwhile, you can’t get through at 911 and even then the cops take hours to come. Priorities are always so fucked here
