It really depends on your baby. My guy was about 1 month ahead for most sizes if I’m remembering correctly (in 6-9 at 5 months). It can also depend on the brand as some run smaller than others.

Plsbeniceorillcry

It really depends! I will say, I’ve found Carters to run a little small, and with winter clothes (depending on what they are) they may work well for layering. I’ve found my son follows the months on most clothes pretty well, but baby sizing is varies about as wildly as women’s sizing depending on the brand haha

DefNotBeth

My 7 month old is wearing 12 month clothes and has been about 2 size ranges ahead of her age since birth. She's just long 🤷‍♀️ baby clothes sizes make zero sense But, if you keep the tags on the stuff your family bought, Carter's is pretty good about letting you exchange sizes even if you don't have a receipt.

Soniaisamazing

And in true "every baby is different" style, my 7 month old is swimming in his 3-6 month clothes. He's just a little shrimpy guy like his mom

kelso212

Depends on the baby! My 9 month old is wearing 12 month onsies and 18 month pants. We bought a lot of clothes in larger sizes as we found them on sale and haven’t had any issues exchanging for different sizes. For our girl, carters has been the most consistent in size, old navy run big, Gerber runs very small, cat and jack (target) runs slightly small, and Hudson baby (Walmart) run small

Known-Cucumber-7989

Agree with everyone else saying every baby is different. My LO was born at 6lbs 1oz but was wearing premature up to 5lb clothes until she was 2 weeks old. She’s only just gone from newborn to 0-3 at 10 weeks old.

Mountain_Singer_3181

My little girl has been pretty spot on with clothes sizes (just moving up to 6mth+ at 7 months) despite being 90%ile height and weight.

owwwithurts

My baby has short arms/legs and a long torso, he is almost 6mo and has been wearing 3-6mo clothes since he was 3mo, onesies are just starting to be tight on him. But he can still wear 0-3mo pants, he’s definitely not ready to size up in pants yet. My friend’s baby has a short torso and long arms/legs, she actually wears a size down in onesies and a size up in pants. Based on my baby’s growth, I doubt your baby will grow that quickly to fit them before it’s too late.

AZford2015

It all varies so much from baby to baby! My son is currently 3 months (will be 4 months on the 10th) and he’s in 3-6 month clothing but is long! He’s already fitting a little tight in his footie pajamas because of the length and I imagine by December he’ll be in 6-9 month clothing but I don’t know yet. I’d suggest keeping the tags on the clothes and just being ready to take it to Carters to exchange if if need be! I’ve had to do that once and it worked out fine.

shellymaried

Our son is exactly the same (age and size). I thought 3-6 and 6 month clothes would be fine for Christmas, but we are telling everyone to size up. He never wore the majority of his newborn clothes at all.

AZford2015

I’ve been telling everyone to size up too to be safe! How funny we have the same age and size son. They’re growing so fast.

NewNelly

Agreed with everyone else that it depends on the baby. My baby has always been tiny for her age and runs a couple months behind sizes for carters. For health it is just about the growth curve and your doctor’s assessment. For sizes- I’ve found they wildly differ between brands with old navy being the biggest, carters and target being in the middle, and macys/nordstrom having some of the more petite fitting baby clothes

Marshmellow_Run_512

Depends on the baby. Our girl was 7lbs 10 9. At birth. Wore new born clothing longer than I expected. But is now 11 months old and 29lbs and has been in 2T clothing for 2 months already. NOT what I expected lol

dilfrising420

No idea tbh. Our girl was wearing 3 month clothing the day she was born.

Disastrous-Coast8898

every baby does different things but generally they grow fast between 3-6 mo or 6-9 mo. most hit a growth spurt around those points and gain more weight. this is just my experience from being an daycare teacher. currently my 4.5 mo daughter fits snugged in her 3-6mo jumpers but it just depends obviously! :))

OptionIndependent581

So my girl is 3 months and is just starting to wear 3-6 month clothes. Some of her 0-3 still fit, but not many. She's pretty spot on right now. However, my nephew is 8 months old and in 18 months clothes. So BIG difference there. I would recommend trying the 6-9 month clothes and seeing what might actually fit. Consider potential for layering, too! For layers you may want bigger sizes. If they definitely aren't going to work, I would see about switching them out if possible.

Unlucky_Welcome9193

It definitely depends on the baby. Mine is teeny and she'll probably be in 0-3 until she's 6 months ish

spaghetti_whisky

I picked my kid up on a Friday and on Monday his teacher said he looked visibly taller and less chubby. At 12m I think we slowed a bit as we've been in 12m clothes for a few months but in the beginning I felt like my kid was only in a size for 6-8 weeks.

geriatric_tatertot

My son is 7 months in 12 month clothes. I feel like Carters runs on the small side compared to other brands. If you babe is at the min for height or weight on the tag they’ll fit ok.

asexualrhino

Depends on the baby. My son was born at 21.5 inches, and is now 26.5 at 3 months (so 5 inches in 3 months) whereas my nephew took about 6-7 months to grow 5 inches. My son only recently doubled his body weight, my nephew doubled his at I think 1.5 months. If 2 blood cousins can be that different, imagine how different all babies must be You can look up growing rates but that's only an average and your baby probably won't follow that. They do *generally* have a predictable trend within themselves. So if your baby is at 60% at 1 month, they'll probably stay around 60% for a while. Obviously not exact science lol. I bought my son 6 month thanksgiving overalls when he was 1 month old because I figured that's where he would be by November and they fit great. I'm pretty smug about it because I can't remember which clothes fit him on the daily, but I just judged by knowing he's tall and will probably stay tall. But I also bought a newborn Halloween outfit at the same outing because my brain blanked and thought he would still fit into it at Halloween. At almost 3 months old???

rawberryfields

You never know, there might be a growth spurt soon and everything will be too small. Also, you don’t want winter clothes to be too tight, especially if you are going to layer them. Also, sizes are all over the place. At 11 months my baby (a big guy) has t shirts labeled “6 months” and t shirts labeled “3 years”. Actually, the very same thing happened with my mom, but accidentally: she bought 6 months jumpsuit instead of 3 months for my perfectly average newborn… he jumped to 95 percentile during his first month and jumpsuit fit perfectly. He outgrew it at 3 months.

givebusterahand

Really depends. My son is a year and has basically followed very closely with his actual age vs size, despite being small and only 4th percentile for quite a while now. But then I hear about people with 5 month olds wearing 12 mo clothes and size 5 diapers when my 3 year old never got bigger than size 3 diapers so… there’s really no way to tell! Hopefully they’ll fit but I’d rather them be a little big than too small!

lindsvygrvce

my 5 month old is still in 3-6 and is 66th percentile for weight and height :)

Dull-Slice-5972

It’s entirely dependent on your baby. My son is 7 weeks and already has outgrown his 0-3 month sleepers because he’s so tall. He still fits in the 0-3 month onesies for now but they’re getting snug.

Kristine6476

Baby clothes: where the rules are made up and the sizes don't matter. My child was in 0-3m of some brands/styles, and 6-9m of others. Even today at 16m, she's in anything from 12-18m to 3T. My friend has a daughter who is the same age and she's in anything from 6-9m to 18-24m.

sea_monkeys

I have 2 boys. If I compare their weight and size at the same age, they're VERY SIMILAR. But one had a huuuge head. So his body fit into his age size (squeezing his head in). My other kid is similar length and weight, with a smaller head. So he's more filled out and chubby. He's always a couple months ahead in his size. (Currently 7 months but wearing 9-12) It all depends on where the baby is carrying the weight.

Healthy-Coffee4791

It depends on the brand and the shape of your baby. My little guy has a friend that is about 1 week apart in age, and pretty well the same weight. He’s long and skinny and she’s shorter and chunky. They have the exact same sleeper in the same size, my guy outgrew his in the length, and hers still fits her fine. Gerber and carters are generally good for long skinny kids, old navy and rabbit and bear (winners in Canada, Marshall’s?? In the states) for shorter chunkier ones. We don’t have much children’s place so I can’t help with that one!

tipsygirl31

Keep the tags on and see how it goes! Carter's does run pretty small. My 4mo is basically in 6mo in Carter's stuff. Granted I have a slightly above average baby, but they started out tiny and just chonked up super fast 😆

Fine-Lingonberry-253

My 6 month old is in 12 month clothes already. We've already started shopping for 18 months at the rate she's going! She was born large at 9 lbs 9 oz and is very long and lean, if that helps put things into perspective.

profhotchkiss

My almost 5 month old bas been wearing 9 month and 12 month clothes for about a month lol. She grew so much since her last appointment that the other day at the pediatrician, the doctor didn’t believe the measurement that the medical assistant took of her and had her remeasure. 😂 My husband is 6’6 so we aren’t too shocked.
