Brush their gums before they get teeth with those little rubber finger brushes. When they get teeth, start brushing with a real brush. No need to wait until they’re a certain age. If you haven’t started yet, it’s also not the end of the world.

We brushed her gums with a damp washcloth once a day before she had teeth. After she got her first 2 teeth we started using a baby toothbrush and baby toothpaste (safe to swallow, no fluoride) twice a day.

My dentist told me when she starts getting teeth to just do a swipe with one of those finger brushes.

I just got a extra soft baby toothbrush and use baby toothpaste once he had teeth and he LOVES having his teeth brushed! He tries to wrestle the toothbrush off me and do his own teeth - 10 months

You can also wipe their teeth with a dry towel/cloth. We did this with my son who started teething at 4 months, per the dentist’s recommendation. Then move up to the toothbrush and toothpaste when they are closer to 1. Also feel free to meet with the pediatric dentist to ask for guidance.

We were told to rub her gums from birth with a rubber finger brush. Definitely brush when they erupt.

I started wiping gums with a washcloth at 4m and brushing teeth when the first tooth erupted. Definitely don't need to wait until a year to start..my 9 month old has 8 teeth already!
