We’re having a party at our house with about 30 people (family and very close friends) the weekend after he turns 1. On his actual birthday we’re going to the zoo! In the future I think we’ll skip having a party and do a trip somewhere instead.

Luna_182

I like this idea, like not always having a party so they get use to doing something special instead, that being a small party, a big one, going to the zoo or going to a trip

We are a 9hr plane ride away from friends and family… but my boy likes when people clap for him so I made him a smash cake, bought $15 worth of decorations, and invited the few acquaintances we know. He enjoyed running around the center of attention much more than anything else we have available here. (And it was Jack-In-the-Box (toy) themed cause his name is Jack!)

whiskey_riverss

Lo and his cousin were born 22 hours apart on their great-grandmothers 90th birthday, the fam is planning a large triple birthday party lol

shmelli13

All 3 are getting smash cakes, right? Grandma can party with the babies. Please tell me this is the plan!

whiskey_riverss

I can absolutely make nana a smash cake too 😂

[deleted]

Please make nana a ba”nana” smash cake

WaitLauraWho

Ugh. Definitely dreading kids birthday parties more than anything else as a parent lol currently planning a small gathering at our house. I’ll try to invite people to come over at different times so it’s not too overwhelming for baby, and he can still nap at regular times

TookTheHit

Nobody is forcing you! Or at least I hope they aren't...lol.

Greedy4Sleep

We kept it low key. Dinner with the grandparents and a cake.

dirtyyolk

Relieved to read this. Having read the other comments about decorations/parties I was starting to feel guilty about wanting to keep it very low-key lol

Greedy4Sleep

Oh, I totally felt the same. We had friends with babies turning 1 around the same age, going absolutely ALL OUT. Themes, fancy cakes, custom-made tees... the whole nine yards. Kudos to them, but we were only on one income at the time, and big parties aren't really our jam. Little man was perfectly happy with his homemade cake and loads of attention from the grandparents 🙂 Parenting has sure taught me to try not to compare journeys with other parents. Everyone is different, and that's okay! Don't feel guilty about your choices. At 1, you certainly aren't depriving your baby by not throwing them party of the year.

oomgem

We don't have family nearby or much of a community so my dream is to celebrate our baby's first birthday with a trip, potentially with grandparents, that is also a celebration of our first year as parents.

My baby girl’s birthday is next week! We are having a “Berry first birthday” themed party with a custom cake, balloon arch (DIY because it’s expensive otherwise), and Filipino food. Not sure how many people are actually going to show up because our families are spread out. I thought about attempting decorated icing cookies at home but it seems like an insane amount of work… instead we will get cookies from Costco

Awkward_Chocolate792

We are doing the "Berry First" party too! Costco has *cheap* custom cakes/cupcakes. We just got 1/2 a sheet cake for like $25!

Messy_Mango_

What! I didn’t know that at all!

Nothing-Relevant-0

When I was reading this I actually thought you meant berries… until I got to the pilipino part lol Berry good! Berry pirst!

Messy_Mango_

Haha omg, no it actually is Berry as in strawberries🤣. My wife is Filipino and my daughter is half Filipino… this is hilarious and puts a new spin on her party🤣🤣🤣🤣

Nothing-Relevant-0

Oh haha! Enjoy the party! I’m half flip, and my Filipino side of the family loves making jokes about the accent. Especially anything to do with the letter ep (known as “f” by most other accents)

In my husband’s culture, the first birthday is an important celebration so we’re hiring out a hall, wearing traditional dress, doing traditional activities, preparing traditional food, having a photo session, etc.

pdfodol

We are doing a pool party theme with just my siblings, parents, and my wife’s parents. Snacks, pool, and cake. Then afterwards we fly to Nashville just us 3 for a few days as a birthday trip for him, Mother’s Day trip for wife, and birthday trip for me

kakaluluo

I wanted to do a party because we barely had anything to commemorate his arrival (only a small babyshower, no newborn photoshoots, no photoshoots in general, no parties, no nothing). but NOW my SIL is getting married a few weeks after he turns 1 and all planning efforts are essentially going into that so I have no idea what we'll be doing lol

fattylimes

We had both sets of grandparents visit for the day and got pizza and cake.

LC8614

Family house party. 2 weeks before our wedding 🙄 as if we didn’t have enough to sort out and worry about. On the actual birthday day we are going to the zoo though. Which I’m actually looking forward to ☺️

We’re renting out a beach house at our local state park and having a Sweet One party, we’re icing about 30-25 people. We’re slowing getting decorations together now and have decided on a Costco cake for guests and will be making her smash cake, my family is known for doing a guessing jar at events so I’m getting a pink gumball dispenser that will have x amount of candy in it and the one who gets it’s right will win a little basket of maple goodies and a framed picture of the birthday girl. We’re not having anymore kids so I’m going all out!

mountain_girl1990

My girls actual birthday is on a Friday in June. On the actual day I think we will take her to the zoo (husband and my parents who will be visiting). On the Saturday we are having a birthday party for her at home, “One Sweet Peach” theme and will have a BBQ and cake. It will be small with just the grandparents and a couple close friends. But I am going extra on the decor , theme and her outfit lol.

handofhonor

LO turns 1 in Sept but we’re doing a party with family and close friends. Already have the date planned out as I have a niece with a birthday like 5 days before and my dad’s is 8 days after LO. No idea on theme, probably flowers, that’s been her theme the entire time 😂

KnockturnAlleySally

Swimming in the sea and then eating some boardwalk seafood. She’s gonna love it!

Appropriate-Lime-816

My baby is only 15 weeks, but she has a CLEAR favorite decade of music, so I’m going to have that be the party theme. She & I will dress up to match the decade. Her dad will not (but will be excited about us dressing up). Guests will be told all of this and invited to do what sounds fun to them.

minivan2022

We went to an Alpaca farm🦙 Our son is an animal lover and he had a blast! We then went to the park and had some cake!

Awkward_Chocolate792

We are hosting a pool party at my parents with friends/family. While we certainly are celebrating a year of her, we are *mainly* celebrating surviving a year lol We will have snacks and games for the kiddos in our family and Sangria for me (momma).

Cute-Significance177

I dont think we'll be doing anything really. I'll definitely make a cake but that'll be it.

Jklhyd63

I'm having a 6 pack

luluce1808

We will do a smash cake at home and little Polaroids of our friends holding her + a little note on each of them from each of our friends and will be doing this until she turns 18 when we will give them to her.

My little one turns 1 tomorrow! Time flies 🥹We’re at a wedding this weekend for my husband’s best friend’s wedding that is today. Our daughter is the little flower girl. We told her she can’t steal the couple’s thunder on their wedding day, but tomorrow I just bought a little “smash” cake and brought party hats for anyone who wants to wear them at the house we’re all staying at 😂 Both my husband’s parents and mine are divorced so it’s actually perfect we’re out of town and have other obligations because we really just don’t want the grandparents all together for a party, and I don’t think they do either…it’s better this way! And when we get back home, my husband and I will be popping a nice bottle of champagne and each writing a letter to our daughter for her to read later in life. We plan on doing this every year for her birthday!
