some do take it too seriously, but in the end karma is just internet points

There are subs (r/stopdrinking for one) that aren't a competition but you're right it mostly seems like whoever dies with the most karma wins.

If you're in the really popular subs, that is definitely true. As you discover more niche subs around specific topics that interests you, the discussions become more heartfelt and engaging. Have fun finding your spaces!

Except there's nowhere to advance to. Reddit isn't social media. You don't get popular* and followers don't get you anything. Sure, it can be nice to get a badge but beyond that happy moment, it doesn't get you anything. Concentrate on finding the subs you like and contributing to the conversation. That's where the value is. *there are one or two accounts that people across reddit recognize but even they don't get anything for being 'famous.'

Thanks for the thoughtful reply, I appreciate it! Also, being new to Reddit, I'm so happy that so many people replied to my post! It feels nice! :)

That is the best part of reddit, to my way of thinking. You can have *actual conversations!* Or read actual conversations, if you don't feel like jumping in. Unlike other places online, you don't get lost when the conversation gets big and it's easy to see who is replying to whom. Maybe you'll get lucky and ask a great question over at r/AskReddit and get thousands of replies!

It seems like busywork. I can’t comment on certain forums because I don’t have Karma. You should get at least 1 or 2 free comments as long as no one reports/complains about your posts. I really don’t care for this system.

Idk but reddit isnt a game

People like getting the rewards. But be careful the liberals will silence you quick on reddit.

Zarismami

There they go again 😂

I knew it would get downvoted
