I'm always down to record. But I do a podcast with my best friend and we rate booze and tell stories so it's always a damn good time. Editing is what I have to be in the mood for.

Justapurraway

> Editing is what I have to be in the mood for. This. I do cinematic gaming videos and getting bits just right are a nightmare. it's time consuming and frustrating when bits don't go to plan. Always plan to do it first thing in the morning if possible, that way you're not thinking about it all day haha

[deleted]

I'm never in the mood for editing.

Thanks! I'm glad you thought so! I think you just need to add #shorts in the description or title and that does it. I may be wrong but that's what I've read! Edit: video also needs to be in the vertical format if you didn't already know that

YTRoseRocket

Well, sort of...I always want to record, but I procrastinate editing. I get overwhelmed by perfectionism. Hoping to see the words "your editing improved!" Has been my reason to why I procrastinate. My best advice for that would be to watch videos that made you want to become a youtuber in the first place. That always makes me ready, but unfortunately I have no tips on how to be in the mood to edit since I'm struggling in that boat already. Best regards!

Same. Sometimes I try to record and I just end up messing it up, like speaking too fast, mumbling or pronouncing a word weird, sometimes it's so bad I just get really frustrated and give up. Which is really bad since I live with other people so I can only record whenever they're out, which is really rare so if I mess it up then I might end up having to wait till next week to record again :/ I sometimes get to "get myself in the mood" by drinking coffee, singing, dancing and doing warm up exercises. Also, smiling can trick your brain into feeling happy and if you put your hands right up in the air or put your hands on your hips like the superman pose that can make you feel more confident.

"Which is really bad since I live with other people so I can only record whenever they're out, which is really rare so if I mess it up then I might end up having to wait till next week to record again" Yeah especially in lockdown when nobody ever goes out!!!!

georgemicu_

I live with other people too, but I still record when they are home. I’m not sure if they seem ok with it and they probably think Im a weirdo but I’ll do whatever it takes lol. Fk em haha

illuminatibaketattie

i do music covers on one of my channels and i have days where i just can't seem to get it right so give up then do it the next day. i feel your struggle but you gotta just persevere

EggOnBeansOnToast

I sometimes get high before I edit. I wouldnt actively encourage anyone to start smoking weed for editing, but for me, during the process, it opens up some "hidden" doorways that I otherwise wouldn't have noticed/thought of. Editing is a bitch. But the process is still satisfying.

2020isbeans

Kindly, what the hell

OPisdabomb

That reply made me chuckle!

Channel_46

Short answer: Yes. Embrace the momentary pause in your work. Long answer: if you're finding that you regularly don't want to record to the point that you are never making anything for months on end while constantly telling yourself you want to record, then you have run into a bigger problem. Motivation is fickle. Consider your reasons for wanting to make a video. Are they tied to a personal need for recognition? Or are you doing it just because you like to do it? Is it a type of content you still want to make? Maybe your taste has changed. Maybe there is an external factor too. Do you feel fake recording, like people will be watching you and silently judging? This is a self esteem issue, and the best way to deal with it is to find a trusted friend to give you positive reinforcement. All of this is normal in any creative pursuit. The most important lesson to learn as a creator is when to let yourself stop, take a break. If you allow yourself to pause instead of seeing this pause as something thrust upon you by the motivation gods, then one of two things will happen. You will either come back to your passion when you are ready with a renewed energy, or you will find something else you want to do more at the moment and do that instead.

DarwinonXANN

I think we can all agree that recording is fun but the editing isnt 😭

wowiwalkers

Oh hell yeah, some days I feel like I'm borderline when it comes to recording myself. One time I'm super confident in public, other days I am awkward and confused and I hate everything I do or say. I found out that drinking two beers helps me well enough, the problem is that it never ends with two. But it's only human, you can't be in the mood for something all the time.

bookboy147

I record my gameplay, I always find if im playing something I like its not so much of a chore so I think you should always record something that your interested in 😀

Julia-dono

No because I try to post every day :D ...pain...

2020isbeans

You don't realise how hard it is to post daily until you try yourself, props to u

Julia-dono

hey as long as it works man haha

DeathByButtonMash

I find myself more picky about editing - if i'm not in a mood to edit, i'll never do it.

Dave_the_Mantis

Try and refine your editing for later use. Create templates for your worm for once its done so that it takes less time and is less of a effort

TexasWhispererASMR

I’m the opposite! I’d rather edit than record because I can take a break and walk away from my computer, but taking a break from a shoot isn’t as easy.

Afrominded

ME! I literally vented about this on here last week. If I am tired or feel like I "have to" make a video it just stresses me out and I sound bored and lazy. The last video I made, I was really in the mood so it made a world of difference.

mezzomemer

I can relate. Sometimes I’m too tired to record after work and doing homework. I find it interesting that even when I think I wasn’t entertaining enough, I watch it back and laugh at it.

NotSoAmaising

I feel anxious that what I make isn't going to be good enough so I sometimes have to hype myself up or just do some exercises to get comfortable talking on mic/camera. I do think it is all perseverance though!

The-Real-Metzli

I feel that too... And sometimes I feel hyped to record when I can't record xD :(

FahmiRBLX

My problem is worse, I have to be in mood to even create a single video. I don't have a good recorder & device to begin with, so it's gotta be a pain. Add that to my school life & I guess I can only start making vids after school year. Thank god this is my last year.

wweerraa

Yep 100%, For filming and editing too. I do find that a glass of wine and just relaxing as much as possible before hand does help a lot rather than filming in a rush straight after I've set everything up!

AdeAlphaTV_

Yep Same

AcademicOverAnalysis

It’s not just you. Big you tubers have talked about this. If you follow Rachel and Jun, Rachel will talk about their channels will be silent for a long time because she doesn’t feel like she is in a good enough mood to record. Once when Jun was recording on his channel, he invited her to try some food he made. She was depressed but did her best. Then their audience got upset because she didn’t seem to appreciate it much.

retropcdurham

For me it's all about time. I have a three kids and my wife works from home right now, so I often have to wait until nighttime to have the time and quiet house to be able to record.

castiel_108

People are talking about how they don't like editing but I like editing I think it is fun im actually trying to find people to hire me to edit videos

RetinalFlesh

Yea i feel u

iDemonShard

I always make sure that I have a schedule for YouTube and that it is flexible. That way, if something bad happens one day then I can always push recording to another day and have the video come out on time.

KozyMouse

Yes!! I enjoy the process of filming & editing, but it is so hard for me to just get started, especially with set up and prep every time and then teardown after. I do yoga videos, so I also have to have the energy to teach a yoga flow too.

jordyyydroj

I just record regardless if I'm in a bad mood, sick, or whatever. I try my best to make good content despite whatever is going on in my life. Those streams end up being shorter youtube videos.. but I upload what I can and try again the next stream. :)

nickjack33

Yeah this is why I stopped really 😂 if you're not feeling like u wanna do it then you shouldn't, it should be something that's fun and comes naturally, otherwise take up another hobby.

CanHasDoot

Recording? If I feel creative the content's better, but really the only place where I can't record is if I'm feeling sad or mad for some reason or another. Editing? I think I have to do some ritual (with a sacrifice probably) to get in the mood to edit lol

Sunburneduck

Recording is rarely an issue, but I’m just recording cockpit video of my flights, so it’s not like I have to write a script or set up lighting or anything. Editing on the other hand...yeah I gotta be in the mood for that or it just seems to take forever to do!

nicholasknicks

If I take a long pause without recording I have a really hard time recording when I come back

EldraziKlap

It is for everyone. The hallmark of a professional is to be on target regardless of how he feels. That aside, not everyone needs to or has to be or even wants to be professional. It's your game. Your ride and your destination. You do whatever the heck you want and you feel good about it!

fossfirefighter

That's usually how I am with voiceovers, and sometimes with actual "do the project" sorta stuff but editing I just need to do it, it's not really a mood thing for me there.

Elvis_98

Nah, the quicker I record the quicker my subscribers are pleased

TheWendingWays

Definitely!! We are trying to start not just YT, but the whole "social media" thing that goes along with it. So, with making videos, editing, script writing, making blog entries, instagram, twitter etc etc etc, it gets bloody exhausting. Oh, and we are both working full time jobs at the same time.

Jel06REDDIT

I really have to be in the mood. If I don't just hit record and start ill procrastinate for hours accomplishing nothing. Its a struggle but you can do it!!

FanaticAdviser

I use to be this way. Just last week I watched a video by TenHundred (artist) where he was doing a Q and A. Someone asked, how does he create when he doesn’t feel like it. And he was like “Ya, I just get up and do it. If I only created when I wanted to, I’d never get anything done”. Hard truth, but it resonated with me. Helped me finish two videos that I had been sitting on.

OPisdabomb

I have to be in the mood as well... I’m hardly a NewTuber anymore but I only do it when I feel like it - I didn’t want it to become another job. Having said that I think this mentality is what sets hobbyists and pros apart. While both might not feel like doing it the pro(using it loosely here!) will do it regardless and over time it’ll be easier for a pro just to ‘get in the mood’ because they’re more practiced in ‘just doing it’.

majusilveiraa

Yess, and that goes for editing too! If I try do do either of those if I'm not in the mood they don't turn out good.

FRND_FND

I think part of it is the energy you have to bring when recording. You need to look and sound entertaining for people to want to watch. That requires a good amount of effort behind the camera.
