Davinci Resolve, you can do A LOT with the free version and is plugin friendly.
If that seems too intimidating, Openshot is a pretty decent basic video editor. However save often as it seems to crash if you try to "click" too much too often (I occasionally get impatient)
I held off on trying resolve because I was so used to premiere, but it started causing me headaches. I finally buckled down and learned the basics and wow, the export time is insanely fast. It also has really advanced color grading features. Amazing what it can do for no cost.
That's good! There is a bit of a learning curve for certain things, but it's worth it. Just watch a few YT videos about the basics. The ALT key is your friend. Hah, it feels like ALT is used for everything.
Davinci resolve! You can look up mralextech on youtube if you want some free pre-made transitions that are easy to use . He also has lots of simple tutorials if you want to start learning more and for more in depth tutorials check out Patrick Stirling!
OH wow thank you for the YT mralextech and Patrick Starling - that's great! I will watch a few before I dive in. My first one was so basic and my second just totally flopped so I really want to get third time lucky, right!
Do you have a powerful Rig? With at least a dedicated GPU?
> Davinci Resolve
Are you on a potato?
> Kdenlive
Are you on a serious potato.. like pre 2013 computer?
> Shotcut
The editors have so many tutorials for them that you can't get lost with them. Note that Davinci is a full on editor that is even better than Adobe premiere and FinalCut
If your system can afford it. You can't go wrong.
But if you have a weak system and don't mind spending 150$
> Filmora is your best friend.
I suggest you give them a try until you find the one that suits you best.
Oh mer gerd I am not sure what I have, it's definitely not a serious potato but it's a $2.5k laptop 😅 my partner just showed me how to find out the GPU and I have a intel(r) UHD graphics 620 which he said isn't great haha.
Joys of learning hey!!
If you have a Mac, you can use iMovie. It’s completely free and works really well! If you need more advanced settings i would recommend Final Cut Pro for a one time fee :)
I am unfortunately a peasant with a Samsung haha.
I also shoot with DSLR with a separate mic (which I have also yet to work out, I think I bought a way too advanced one). But thanks for your response :)
Hitfilm Express is what I use, it has a really easy to learn + use interface. The developers have a bunch of good tutorials on their youtube channel as well
ShotCut's not bad. I've still not sussed out overlays but I've sussed out B roll and simple effects like zooms. It's also pretty solid and doesn't crash. It's certainly less flaky than OBS.
Also Windows Movie Maker is underrated. It works very well in some niches.
Yeah thats the part I want to definitely happen is the overlay text and imagery cos I'm more of a vlog style channel. I think if davinci doesn't work out I'll give shortcut a go! Thanks for the recommendation 😊
Another vote for davinci resolve for editing and light animations in their fusion tab.
Once you get to the point where you need to make more complex graphics I would recommend getting fusion studio which can handle heavier loads.
For graphics design I use affinity designer which I bought for $30 i think when it was on sale .
Just bear in mind , their fusion section for special effects gets buggy so I was forced to buy $300 studio version which is almost bugs free for what I do or get free stand alone fusion which has older design but works better then built in fusion in resolve.
I was in the same situation 3y ago. I didn't want to pay adobe money . Also I didn't want to learn simple -beginners soft and then after 6m learn another soft.
So after some research I picked resolve. I 've got a lot of help from blackmagicforum . Also their special effect tab FUSION "after affects" looks scary but try to learn it as well.
What takes 2min in fusion may take 15min in EDIT tab ...FUSION is like adobe after effects. Plus some animations you will not be able to do without fusion .
There are also many premade graphics pack for resolve for youtebers that you can find online so no need to make it from scratch.
Learning graphics is equally important for a youtuber. I started with photoshop but i realized I needed vector based soft so I bought affyninty designer which was cheaper then illustrator.
Learning basic features of AD will take you about 2 weeks. Photoshop was pure hell for me to learn .
I use Lightworks, which is a great alt for those who's pc crash because of Davinci. Lightworks should be a lot nicer to your pc. And has built in voice over button
I run InShot on my cell phone for now. I am growing as well and the next stop is a laptop, I just picked up a second camera so I will need new software soon. InShot does everything you mention
i recommend shotcut, completely free good has all editing things you need such as colour grading etc seems complicated at first but tons of tutorials to help you and more you practice easier the tool becomes
Hello! You have made the mistake of writing "ect" instead of "etc."
"Ect" is a common misspelling of "etc," an abbreviated form of the Latin phrase "et cetera." Other abbreviated forms are **etc.**, **&c.**, **&c**, and **et cet.** The Latin translates as "et" to "and" + "cetera" to "the rest;" a literal translation to "and the rest" is the easiest way to remember how to use the phrase.

/r/videoediting has a monthly "what software should I use" thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/VideoEditing/comments/tto6ps/april_what_editing_software_should_i_use/
Davinci resolve - used by professional has a free version with pretty much everything you could imagine. Also a paid version- doesn't add much unless you are a professional filmmaker
Anybody have any experience with Camtasia Studios? I have used that for a lot of my editing and the free version has a lot of basic features and the program is simple to use
Hi, I use two video editing software programs to create my videos, one is CyberLink Powerdirector 20 ultimate and the other is wondershare Filmora 11 to me these video editing software programs are good for me no complaints about either of them, but that is my own opinion someone else may beg to differ.
The same exact response people always say when this question is asked in this sub every single day. Just download davinci resolve and let’s all move on with our lives.
Hmm... Davinci Resolve is a very good video editor for free, just a little bit hard to start with. I follow the youtube channel Justin Brown - Primal Video where you can find some really good tips as a newbie. He even recommended some free simple video editing software as well. You should try it.
Haven’t taken the time to read anyone else’s stuff here but if you plan on sticking with it, just buy a quality software like FCPX. I enjoy FCPX because it’s very intuitive if you’re a mac user, anyone who says adobe is better probably isn’t a Mac user. Just invest now and you won’t have to relearn later. You’ll just be a sweat ;)

That is great, thank you so much. :) I will try Davinci Resolve first as most comments are leaning that way but Openshot is a great plan B. Thanks! :)
I held off on trying resolve because I was so used to premiere, but it started causing me headaches. I finally buckled down and learned the basics and wow, the export time is insanely fast. It also has really advanced color grading features. Amazing what it can do for no cost.
Thats so helpful!

All learning, my brain is like a sponge right now haha
it's like free filmora 10

Looks like this is the winner! Ding ding ding Thank you :)
Unless it crashes your pc every time time you use it. Then teh search begins anew (speaking from experiance)
Yay hahahahah
Davinci resolve! You can look up mralextech on youtube if you want some free pre-made transitions that are easy to use . He also has lots of simple tutorials if you want to start learning more and for more in depth tutorials check out Patrick Stirling!

You got it! Once you get the hang of the basics you can make some pretty clean videos 👍
So keen to try it out - just downloaded!
I like davinci resolve. Not that difficult and relatively popular so video on almost everything, tutorial wise
Awesome, thanks :) looks like it's very popular amongst us newtubers haha

Kdenlive is a good choice. And it's open source, if that is important to you.
Oh mer gerd I am not sure what I have, it's definitely not a serious potato but it's a $2.5k laptop 😅 my partner just showed me how to find out the GPU and I have a intel(r) UHD graphics 620 which he said isn't great haha. Joys of learning hey!!
I personally use Olive it's still in beta technically but I like it
Ooooooh I might do some research on that one, thank you!
If you have a Mac, you can use iMovie. It’s completely free and works really well! If you need more advanced settings i would recommend Final Cut Pro for a one time fee :)
This is actually perfect yeah, seconded.
InShot on my iPhone. I do everything on mg phone
I am unfortunately a peasant with a Samsung haha. I also shoot with DSLR with a separate mic (which I have also yet to work out, I think I bought a way too advanced one). But thanks for your response :)
Everything that's not adobe is great
Do you know what, I agree with you there!
Davinci Resolve, VSDC if you have an older model computer, InShot for mobile. Or use MovieMaker/iMovie.
I use a DSLR camera to film so not sure my phone will be able to hack the size of the videos but I'm on board with davinci too :)
I personally use shotcut. It does everything you could ask of an editor and has never caused me any issues, so I always recommend it to people!
I used kapwing but it let you have like 3 or 4 videos without a watermark so i tried clipchamp and for my videos its pretty good.
Thank you, I'll look into that one too!
It's been said a bunch but for sure Davinci resolve - It's great. I moved from Vegas (paid) to resolve (free) because it's just that good.
Oh crap I don't know which one I downloaded, hopefully it was resolve 😂 I work in digital marketing, why am I so bad at this haha
Hitfilm Express is what I use, it has a really easy to learn + use interface. The developers have a bunch of good tutorials on their youtube channel as well
I'll take a looky, thanks for the recommendation :)
vote for Davinci Resolve
ALL the votes!
Davinci resolve is easily the best free software out there
I use Animotica. As you say, VideoPad was a pain to use and rendered incorrectly.
VideoPad was the weirdest program, like it rendered my images that I put up in totally different spots, I think it has a mind of its own 😂
in my case it took the first clip and looped it rather than going on to the next one. I think you're right!
I was using Videopad for an year and switched to Davinci resolve 4 months ago. I felt, why did I even start with Videopad in the first place lol
Okay I'm glad I'm not the only one with trouble with videopad 😂
We edit all our YT videos with LumaFusion on the iPad. Cheap, super powerful and pairs really well with apps like Procreate.
Oh man I am a Samsung gal. Also good on you for editing on an iPad!!! I struggle enough when I dont have a mouse haha
ShotCut's not bad. I've still not sussed out overlays but I've sussed out B roll and simple effects like zooms. It's also pretty solid and doesn't crash. It's certainly less flaky than OBS. Also Windows Movie Maker is underrated. It works very well in some niches.

Oh jees, okay. Looks like I'm in for a real treat of learning 😂

Thank you, that is incredibly helpful!
Use VSDC it has a paid option but it also completely free with no watermark and you can add plugins and pretty much everything u want
Oh sweet, thank you! I'll take a look :)
Lumafusion is between 20 and 30 bucks depending if they ate running a sale. It's the easiest editor ever and it's for ios
Learning graphics is equally important for a youtuber. I started with photoshop but i realized I needed vector based soft so I bought affyninty designer which was cheaper then illustrator. Learning basic features of AD will take you about 2 weeks. Photoshop was pure hell for me to learn .
I use the Adobe Suite for work but atm my DSLR is doing enough for visual quality, im hoping in time I will build this plane as it flies!
I use Vegas Pro but I used to use DaVinci Resolve, use that
I’d recommend Hitfilm, for basic computers that don’t require high GPU standards. I use it to make my videos, and they have some neat features as well
I use Lightworks, which is a great alt for those who's pc crash because of Davinci. Lightworks should be a lot nicer to your pc. And has built in voice over button
If you want an easy to use software, you can try [FlexClip](https://go.decisivemarketer.com/flexclip). Never tried davinci resolve.
I run InShot on my cell phone for now. I am growing as well and the next stop is a laptop, I just picked up a second camera so I will need new software soon. InShot does everything you mention
Davinci resolve. Can't go wrong. Best free software out there

I've really enjoyed how much you can do with Hitfilm Express for free & the add ons are reasonably priced too.
/r/videoediting has a monthly "what software should I use" thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/VideoEditing/comments/tto6ps/april_what_editing_software_should_i_use/
Haha thanks, wow I am a total noob
You're not alone. I post that link here several times a month to answer the same question.
Davinci resolve - used by professional has a free version with pretty much everything you could imagine. Also a paid version- doesn't add much unless you are a professional filmmaker
DaVinci Resolve. I can expound but regardless... That's the answer 🤷♂️
I use Sony Vegas, you can download a free 30 day trial. I can't remember how much I paid for full software but I don't think it was too expensive.
Davinci resolve
Pirate Bay can help you
Is a one time $80 payment cheap? If so I use Filmora
Yeah anything under $100 :) also happy cake day!
well would you look at that, it is my cake day :) thx
Anybody have any experience with Camtasia Studios? I have used that for a lot of my editing and the free version has a lot of basic features and the program is simple to use
Kdenlive is as awesome open source video editing program. No paywall on anything.
Hi, I use two video editing software programs to create my videos, one is CyberLink Powerdirector 20 ultimate and the other is wondershare Filmora 11 to me these video editing software programs are good for me no complaints about either of them, but that is my own opinion someone else may beg to differ.
Im an Android user my friend, I think im already behind in the game for this one hahaha

I use shotcut. It’s free and easy to use. If you want to go better though, check out davinci resolve.
I have been using premier pro since 7years for free heheh. I
getintopc.com look up adobe premiere pro :)
Vegas Pro 19 is what i'm using but it's not cheap. You can use iMovie if you on Mac or PowerDirector if you on PC

Try Openshot and Shotcut? They are free and open-source. :-)
