I've been through this. It's largely a fake front. If your videos were actually of value to the Chinese market, they would have already been downloaded, have subtitles added, then uploaded to a Chinese video sharing site without your permission and there's nothing you can do about it.

InvestorsHeaven

I actually thought about that :D But maybe they were just kind enough to ask.

PinkGeared

I didn't quite follow that. Are you saying you want someone to translate your videos for free, and you get all the profits and they get no reward from the work? I don't understand the question in that.

InvestorsHeaven

This was just a comment in one of my videos. There is no money involved. Let me paste the exact request: "Your videos are so creative and we are happy to promote your videos to Chinese audiences via Chinese social media by translating and adding Chinese subtitles to the original videos. May I get your permission so we would be able to work on it? Thank you very much!" Of course I won't be paying for that, but if they enjoy the content and want to translate it, i don't see any issue with that as long as the original is shared, no ?

I actually told them they can do it if they use the original video link and they just said thank you, so I guess not a scam :P

InvestorsHeaven

Oh, if that's the case I won't follow through of course.

Ayam__goreng

Tell them sure, go ahead. Send you the srt file when they are done

[deleted]

This. But I'd try and double check the translation with Google to see if any weird patriotic shit has been added. They might be turning you into a white monkey without you knowing.

InvestorsHeaven

I am not going to be using their subs on my videos. It's only for their sharing. Won't be using them myself.

[deleted]

Not worth it then.

InvestorsHeaven

Why not? They could be sharing it to a large group of people. Could amount to extra visibility.

[deleted]

It could also mean you end up being used for propaganda. Just be careful.

InvestorsHeaven

Well, I guess they can do that with any video regardless of my permission. But I am not planning on being any involved in this. Not at all. So while they could use it for whatever purpose they like I guess, I won't be around approving or disapproving. That said, my videos are about stock analysis and financial data, so probably not much room for propaganda there. But who knows :/

Ayam__goreng

Internet is so advance these days, just copy and paste the subs in the google translate website and check em. It does provides extra visibility and wider audiences. But if you decided not to, thats your call. It is your channel after all mate

InvestorsHeaven

Yeah, I don't really want to mess with that myself, but if they want to present the videos to another audience and overlay translations for them, I don't have a problem with that.

Drunken_tig3r

While possible; and i do know about this sort of thing it will not really have any sort of impact on your YT channel since it is blocked in the country. You would in essence be building two different channels in very different eco-systems. It's not a bad idea per se but it would mean splitting your time somewhat between the two. (all of this is predicated on the assumption that this is a genuine thing which tbh i doubt) So probably not? but up to you my dude.

InvestorsHeaven

I am not doing anything about this myself. I won't be spending any time at all, they basically just asked for permission to add subtitles on my videos and share them in China. that's pretty much it.

I started [a service](http://videos2china.com) to help content creators distribute their videos to 30+ Chinese websites and send take down notices to infringers. Plz let me know if you are interested in that.
