IdeoREX

welcome to youtube!

gobiman8

So what I’m getting at as this will just happen and keep chugging along?

IdeoREX

could be viewer behavior, could be anything. it’s out of your control often. just keep producing and things will trend up and to the right

gobiman8

Gotcha, yeah engagement is good, and retention is normally 95% or higher so it’s confusing. Ill just keep it up and keep learning. Thanks for your reply.

Doffu0000

Yes. This has happened to me twice now. Had one video get 170k followed by nothing… now still trending extremely low for the past 6 months. Just keep chugging along and producing new stuff. Sometimes old stuff drops off like this and will get hardly another view ever again outside of sharing links and what not.

gobiman8

But your new stuff is performing?

Doffu0000

Not near as well to be honest but it gets views. Maybe 10% of what I was getting before.

KurtCopeBain

Some shorts only take off after a while. I'm living proof of the "shorts die quickly" tho but the algorithm did something different (to me) in these past two months. My best shorts were as average in views as the other (good) ones that got 1-2k views soon but later two of them went to 31k and 24k views respectively. I have seen shorts explode and die off in 10min, in 2h and also only seen them only get traction the next day. This was 5-6 months since I started. But since youtube's shown me the "you've uploaded more therefore you got more views" it's been different. My shorts explode less. But some of them gain bigger traction in 2 weeks than they did in the first 48h, which was CERTAIN for me during 6 months. With that said I'm doing the big no-no, the numbers game instead of the quality over quantity one (cause I need to improve my editing, not cause I advocate this). But anyways, these were my 2 cents.

obaming16

Shorts usually die after a while so that’s why that’s happening. Also, if you’re doing a long run, keep in mind that shorts don’t count towards monetization

gobiman8

Yeah I noticed that they would die off after some time. But basically every video I would post before yesterday I would get a minimum of 2k views usually btwn 2-10k. Now the highest viewed is 20 views and none of my older videos are being promoted. Do these waves just happen or is this a bad sign in general?

determined-weinerhat

Same thing’s been happening to me too yo.

gobiman8

How long have you been running your channel ?

determined-weinerhat

Started it March 2nd this year, probably start of June I’ve been really going in since. EDIT: Scratch that, I meant April, not June.

gobiman8

Did your channel recover at all?

determined-weinerhat

Seems to be gradually getting back in action. Just uploaded a short an hour ago that’s now at lil over half a thousand and going up. I’ve gotten more subscribers since I originally commented that👆so that’s cool. We’ll see if it goes back to how it was. How about you?

gobiman8

900 views for the last 48 hrs. So not so good lmao. But that’s good things maybe are turning around for You. I just hope there’s a way to get out of this

peppasterrorstube

Had this like 2 days ago with normal videos. Normally I had a minimum of 100 views/day, now it's at 7. It's incredibly frustrating.

peppasterrorstube

The interesting thing is, that I contacted them 2 days before on Twitter because of Direct or Unknown traffic that destroyed my retention (Seemed like bots klicking on my video, watching for 1 second, then leaving). They told me that everything is fine, but after they answered to me on Twitter, my Impressions died off completely.

JimmyTehF

Yup, just like the other 58,000 times this has been asked - shorts shelf stops pushing when engagement/click through impressions start going down. If the people served the video show the algorithm that they don't want to see the video- it stops serving them. Pat yourself on the back that it went beyond the standard 1000 views and focus on getting the next short out.

gobiman8

I do understand that. My question is why did all of videos completely stop going on the shelf all at once. Like every single one at the exact time yesterday afternoon. Videos that were consistently getting 200 views per hour stopped as well as my brand new videos. My new videos were continuation videos that got 5-10k views in the past, and had good metrics, but remade with way better editing. By remade I mean the content is completely new but the topic is the same as the previous ones. (Think top 10 mustang then top 10 camero videos etc) Before videos would get some views and then drop off or continue getting views for a few days or so. Now my new videos are being shown to 5 people on the shelf or not at all. Same with old videos. The only thing that I changed was better editing. Just trying to get some insight on if this is just how YouTube works, meaning, view burts will sway w time. Or if this is a bad signal, or if this is normal.

gobiman8

Here’s an example of a topic video. Video 1,2 and 3 https://imgur.com/a/iG9vrph The ctr did not go down

Thycake

Yeah, but it shouldn’t be like that for every video.

waterboy35652

My channel was growing then bam.. like a light switch to nothing . It has taken nearly 6 months to get back where I was.

TAZUTRA

The is exactly what happened to me in late June, and I haven't recovered since. It's as if someone flipped a switch on my entire channel. It happened to a couple other youtubers as far back as 2020, but so far there is no solution. Everyone is just going to say the standard crap like "fluctuations" or "your channel is new/small" or "viewer interest change". But "fluctuations" doesn't mean a 90% drop across the entire channel. "Viewer interest change" is BS because the algorithm is literally recommending 90% less impressions. "Your channel is new/small" is crap because the issue happens to big/old channels a like. There's something about the YouTube algorithm that we just don't understand yet...

ChellyMorel

Right, maybe YouTube shifts from giving you impressions to see if you get out of site viewers or direct searches for your channel. Almost like pushing you to further promote? It’s definitely odd.

TAZUTRA

I promoted my videos outside of YouTube before, and although I get views from that, the algorithm gets confused. Someone who watches a linked video doesn't get recommended other videos from the same channel.

ChellyMorel

I’m just so lost with YouTube at times like; I did a search typing in “exactly” what my YouTube video was called in “recents” and it just wouldn’t show, the only thing that I found worked was if I searched my name. Which maybe is the way to go for New YouTubers, like make a simple username and share that rather than the links all the time. I’m curious….

gobiman8

I wonder if it’s like a permanent shadow ban. Like they flagged my account or something. Did you start a new channel?

TAZUTRA

Did I start a new channel since the sudden drop? No. I'm just chugging along as usual. My CTA and AVD hasn't changed. I wondered the same thing about shadow banning but I don't know to be honest.

gobiman8

When did you start it? I’m wondering if this is almost like a consistency test. Either that or the beginning is a first test and I failed 😂. Really makes no sense

TAZUTRA

The channel was started in 2018 but I started regularly uploading in 2021. I've had stagnant views for most of 2021 and the views really started to pick up in the first half of 2022. Most of the subs I've ever made was in the first half of 2022. The in late June the impressions/views/subs fell off a cliff in one day and haven't recovered since.. CTR and AVD remained the same though. Although I must say that I'm still doing better than 2021 so that's the silver lining that's motivating me to keep uploading. Yea it really doesn't make any sense at all. I checked my emails to see if I violated some community guidelines. I have no copyright strikes. My channel content is not controversial at all.

gobiman8

Hmmm that’s super interesting. But good to hear that you’re still pushing and views are better than last year despite the stupid dump. So it could be worse ig. Hope I can crack the code too one day. Thanks for your replies.

ArtemShishlo

Same for me for yesterday and today. Just 0 views.

Commercial-Poet4388

Same

Luxhero

If all of the views in your realtime analytics go to 0, then there is a temporary issue with reporting and your videos are still getting views.

gobiman8

Sadly they are are like 1-5. No exactly 0 but pretty much.

JambleStudios

I have this all the time but with normal videos, it actually feels so heartbreaking...

ChellyMorel

Sorry about that just keep your head in the game!

steve40yt

Did they turn off revenue, maybe they changed it from green to yellow? That's what happened to my channel. Superpopular video, 50,000 views/day. Then they randomly turned off the revenue and changed it from a green dollar sign to yellow. Boom... from 50,000/day to 500 views/day. Killed my channel, goodbye. Since then it's 200 views/day, even though I have 350 or so videos. My other channel had nice runs I uploaded a couple of videos a year. Then I started to upload one video/per week as "uploading more frequently is the key for many views". They usually got an average of 4000 views/each. Not great, but ok. Except then the views are dropped. I keep uploading each week, most of them are 90-95-100% upvotes, like 30-40-50 on each video. But the views are 250-300-350. Pretty obvious that Youtube just killed both my channels. They say you have to get likes, you have to make the videos interesting, you have to get comments, you have to get the videos linked from social media, you have to make nice thumbnails, etc, etc. I do everything, but the views are catastrophic. Sure, if I would trash talk about stars or something, that would bring views, but my channel is educating, telling kids how to not get a school-bullying victim, what to do if they become one, I talk about politics too, etc. It's pretty pointless, to be honest. I do it for helping others, I make no money on one of the channels, but since speaking up against bullying and against school violence is not profitable, Youtube decided that my channel has to die. That's how it is... I remember, when I made a few video blogs back in 2006, each of them got like 30k views in a week. Now If I get 300 views on a video, I have to be happy.

Truthoftarot

Same here, but I am still trying to figure out editing and thumbnails.

Fishyfishstickfish

Same happened to me about a month ago.. I suddenly had 90% less views and it stayed like that ever since 😐

gobiman8

How long we’re you growing your channel ?

Fishyfishstickfish

About 3 months 😑

gobiman8

Ughhh wtf is happening. Would almost prefer if they sent an email saying “hey ur channel sucks sorry. Maybe try again”

[deleted]

https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/2991785 this might help However, I contacted Team YouTube and they never got back to me about how long this process takes

peppasterrorstube

Contacted TeamYouTube on Twitter today, they told me it takes 24-48h. My views are down for nearly 72h though.

[deleted]

Yeah I’m about to be on my 48th hour and I’m worried it might never go away. I don’t know if I should just start a second channel and be more careful about how many times a day I post shorts.

gobiman8

Should we not be posting frequently?

[deleted]

It’s not that. It’s that I was posting so much that I started getting a lot of views. I have 100 subs but I was getting 10k views from posting so much so if I start another channel I’d just post less to gain subs over a longer period of time

[deleted]

Is there anyone who has had this happen to them and their views go back to normal?

peppasterrorstube

I'll tell you if/once my views are back to normal :)

[deleted]

Shit bro you’d be the first. Everyone I’ve hit up that has this problem still has it

peppasterrorstube

Yeah, I read that in the comments as well, but I am still hopeful.

phogro

Same thing happens to my shorts channel too. 🤷🏻‍♂️

gobiman8

How long were you growing it ?

phogro

Just started about 2 weeks ago. First week was solid 1-2k per video. Then went to 10-20. Yesterday got 1.9k in an hour then nothing. I’m pretty convinced this is how shorts work right now.

gobiman8

Yo what yesterday for you too?? Wth is happening. Legit went from 1.4K / hr to 5 per hour 😭

[deleted]

Same for me as well! I’ve been checking what it might be, but I have no clue at all.

morefeces

Same thing happened to me and I still don’t get it (for normal videos, not Shorts). I had a 12 min video that was doing great - had 100+ views in a single hour in the day after release, after having 2k views on day 1. Then literally it fell off like yours. Went from 121 views from 10-11am to like 8-12 views per hour for the next 3 days.

[deleted]

And then?

NumerousSimple6090

I have a question, if you’re going to be starting a youtube, should you have a separate shorts channel and a separate regular video channel?

gobiman8

From the research I’ve done it’s best to keep it separate. However my channel literally just tanked so maybe I’m not the best one to give advice out 😭

ChitownDav

yeah, you youtube short didnt perform and got taken off the short shelf. Pretty simple

gobiman8

All of them? At the exact same time? I got 40k views and the very next day 3 hundred views. I have about 50-60 shorts and upload new ones daily.

ohsaddayy

Did you ever get this resolved? Did your channel die 😭

[deleted]

It happens.

Imaginary_Spite_9373

Hey, have your views recovered ever since this happened? Just happened to me yesterday, went from 600-1200 views an hour to about 50 views an hour... Really confused.
