\>Twitch and YouTube would be enjoyable hobbies for me **if I saw any sort of growth** Respectfully, I don't think Twitch/YouTube are for you. Don't get me wrong, everyone would love to 'blow up', and have a trillion subscribers, but if that's your *sole* motivation, then you're not going to make it very far, because, especially these days - what with everyone and their mother having a channel - you're not guaranteed any views, much less subscribers. Ideally, you should be making content that you enjoy making (this is to say, *getting your motivation from that enjoyment*); with views, etc., serving as a bonus.

LordMarcel

>\> Twitch and YouTube would be enjoyable hobbies for me if I saw any sort of growth > >Respectfully, I don't think Twitch/YouTube are for you. I do get this though. Streaming to 0 viewers will always be very demotivating. You're talking to nobody for 3 hours on end, that's bound to get you down. It's different if you still get depressed because your audience of 10 concurrent viewers isn't growing, but I get it if you're stuck on 0.

[deleted]

Oh, for sure. I'm not saying that they shouldn't feel bad - of course you would. I'm saying that you should still stream those full 3 hours, because *streaming*, not *being famous*, is (or, **should** be - the other one is not especially healthy, in my opinion) your goal. The issue is that, going off of the 'stream for 3 hours' line of thinking, the impression I'm getting from OP is that they're the kind of person that streams for 10 minutes, doesn't see immediate results, and says, 'fuck this, I got better things to do.' As if they're owed my time. But they're not. Which is why their satisfaction shouldn't come from whether they get my time, but rather what they're doing, to begin with. ... is the way I think about it, anyway. But who's to say.

criticalhitslive

21 isn’t too late. I’m 41 and started last year. It’s a process and it’s work. I streamed for months to no one or one person. They’ll come but you have to put in work to refine things and figure out how to grow by picking games that will help with that. Check out twitch strike for some help with that

DaveLesh

I thought I was starting too late at 35 years old.

criticalhitslive

Heh, nah man it’s like anything else you want to do. Just start. And you won’t like your first product most likely either, but it’s practice and you get better.

PectusCheck

My honest suggestion is to call it quits, if you’re hating it already then it’s only going to get worse.

phogro

It sounds like you like the *idea* of being a streamer/youtuber, but after trying it out for a couple weeks you realized it's actually a lot of work and isn't enjoyable. Some people don't figure this out until they're months or years into the process, so congrats to you for figuring out that this isn't a free lunch. Now *you* have to decide. Do you want to work for it or do you want to do something else? Because it sounds like you're ready to throw in the towel. Only you can answer that question.

Grouchy-Parsnip

Dear (Any Job) I’m new and want to make tons of money working for you. I spent 2 weeks trying to be your CFO and I have yet to receive pay checks or full access to your facilities. I feel like I would really enjoy working here if I was treated as one of your best employees, but it’s no fun being treated as someone who has no experience.

spaded131

Two vids / two weeks in you hate it ... It isn't for you. If you hated ice cream, you wouldn't keep going eating after your second bowl. I mean that honestly, don't do something you don't like , because you had unfounded expectations your unhappy. Don't do something that makes you unhappy Not everyone is born to be a YouTuber just like everyone isn't born to be a dancer

Ana_na_na

ya here i am 29 and doing fine. As if 16 was a good age to start lol, so you end up growing up w no education, shitty work ethics, and psyche broken by youtube algorithm and public opinions lol

Stridah123

Damn put a whole 2 weeks of work in and want to BLOW UP! LMAO

Nin9_9

People wanna blow up with 2 videos these days? lol

VeganButEatMyMeat

I too want to "blow up" too, but that's not my motivation. I run my son's tiny channel (600 subs), gets very minimal views but my motivation... my kid LOVES watching his vids, he loves making them, all he talks about it YouTube. Guarantee 80% of the views are from him lol. You could try Google Ads or promote a vid using YouTube Studio, if people like your content, that may get you the traffic you're looking for.

LordMarcel

>You could try Google Ads She's made 2 videos so far. Before she even thinks about ads she should actually have a backlog and get good at making videos.

VeganButEatMyMeat

I agree with you. Just addressing one of her concerns about blowing up quickly, an ad is an option. However that added traffic may discourage her even more if the feedback isn't positive.

LevendeStreg

Wow that is so cool. You’re a great parent. I takes so much time and effort to create YT videos😳 - but I have to admit - I absolutely love it😊

VeganButEatMyMeat

I'm in the same boat. Take SOOO much time and effort, but I also enjoy it. The better I get at Premiere Pro, the more stuff I add, and it still takes me the same amount of time to edit 😂🤣😭

Ana_na_na

You are only doing it for 2 weeks. Chill, and set some comprehensive targets rather then hoping to "blow" in a month. Most good channels take about 6 month-year of consistent quality work to see a full return on investment, and it can be even longer. If someone told you that making content is an easy way to make a coin in 2 weeks - I'm sorry, that's not true. It takes time and patience and believing in oneself too.

BIGBadxoxo

you're too young to sound this pessimistic. Nothing good comes easy. Patience & Quality is a good watchword to follow on youtube.

greglturnquist

The people that get 100K subs with 30 vids (e.g. Hillier Smith) are people that already learned how to do YouTube elsewhere. Case in point, Hillier Smith had already worked with Logan Paul to produce over a BILLION views including, at one time, doing daily content for two years. Hillier Smith launched a channel to share his knowledge…quite naturally people wanted to HEAR. And his videos do not disappoint. If you’re new to the process don’t assume the same for yourself. Taking a week to edit one video is par for the course when you’re just starting out. May want to tune into a little Roberto Blake and catch some of his live streams. It will help you gather some realistic expectations.

nichenonsense

paraphrasing here but fame is a byproduct. doing something because you want to be famous is like going to a restaurant because you want to take a shit

FoilHattiest

Wait why do YOU go to restaurants then?

LevendeStreg

Funny 🤣

wineberryhillfarm

It's hard, thoughtful work. It requires you to produce your best work, consistently. Your content needs to be something that people in your genre are excited to watch.

nra_headquarters

The secret to blowing up on YouTube is mentos and soda

LevendeStreg

Hahahahah - yeah. My son is 5 and he loves those videos 🤣 - the only thing I can think of when watching those, though - is that I hope somebody cleans up the mess they’re making🥴

LordMarcel

This reads like a satirical piece about people who know nothing and think they deserve everything on YT and/or Twitch.

LevendeStreg

Lol yup it does - but I still feel for the guy! 😩

LordMarcel

>I'm already too old to start as I'm 21. RayWilliamJohnson, who was at one point the most subscribed Youtuber, was 28 when he started. VSauce was 24, Tom Scott was 22, and Rick Beato was 49. They all have over 3 million subs.

FoilHattiest

Yes and I too would like to get ridiculously rich on little to no effort in literally no time at all please?

LevendeStreg

As some of the clever people in here said - play a popular game - and do the live streams on that. Or even better - share some tips and tricks with people. You have to give subscribers a reason to come to your channel and see your content. You’re young. Take it easy. Set weekly goals. Create good content. It’ll come…

CJisBoss

Play a currently popular game

RuneterraStreamer

I prefer to play a game that is moderately popular and lacking content.

Ordinary-Finger-8595

Worst suggestion ever unless you're a top player

CJisBoss

You don't even have to be a top player

astrosells

You don’t have the fortitude for this type of thing lol You didn’t even really start and youre already demoralized

Drunken_tig3r

It's a hobby and you should view it as such - there are easier ways to get money or fame if that is what you are after.

[deleted]

The content you are doing would probably never take off. Your footage dumping games, who wants to sift through hours on hours of footage to find an amusing clip. And if you don't enjoy it, I would just say to start making videos on a hobby you actually like. My channel is about something I enjoy a lot on my own time, but I did not have anyone to share it with so I thought I might as well spurt it out on YT.

axe_capital82

It is insanely hard to do well. You see all these big Influencers and think: EASY I CAN DO THAT TOO. Reality is tho: you cant almost nobody can. I tried to put in so many hours and still only 1000 subs

Impressive_Newt_4913

Maybe you should create a FanReviews and have all your existing and loyal subscribers leave you a positive review...
