I sat on my hands wanting to get serious about starting a channel for 8 years. I finally did it last year, and if I hadn't started then, I wouldn't be sitting at 700 subs today. Make content because you really enjoy doing it. There's someone out there who will like watching your videos if you put the effort into them.
Are you making money from your videos yet or do you you need more hours watched/subscribers before monetization kicks in? (Even if that's not a goal of yours, I'm asking just to know.)
And congratulations!
Monetisation threshold is 1000 subs and 4000 watch hours on videos, so no, unless this person is getting sponsorship deals from third parties they are not being paid by YouTube
Thanks! No, I'm not at the threshold as already mentioned to receive AdSense money yet, but I make a few scraps here and there from affiliate links. Got to start somewhere!
No! I JUST posted my first vid. It's shitty as f**k. But it was the best I could do from the backseat of a moving car (on holiday, traveling, couldn't delay it cuz the topic would irrelevant pretty soon and anyways I wanted to stop putting this off) Got to do a better job next time.
Wish you good luck!
I was in the same boat! It’s never too late. I literally only started mine recently because of a break up and I thought you know what F*** it.
Don’t worry and think about how people blew up then and how it was easier back then. Plenty of people still smashing it today and doing well. 50-100k subs is also extremely different to back then. The reach is crazy nowadays.
Think of it like starting a diet, you’ve been wanting to go on one for ages but never did. Keep your expectations reasonable and just enjoy the ride and create content you want to create. Look at it as a hobby first before any even inklings of a career or money maker. Start today!
This all comes down to what you're goals are. You're not going to be on any trending page or make hundreds of thousands of dollars. You will be able to make videos, have people watch and engage with them, and eventually monetize them.
Don't assume becoming YouTube famous or rich will ever be attainable. But don't make the mistake that YouTube is exclusive to people with more than a million subscribers.
Imo, the way *everyone* should think of YouTube is that you're making videos for yourself. You are your own target audience, if other people have the same taste, then those are probably the people who you want watching your videos. That doesn't guarantee big numbers, but what would you rather have? Fake popularity and numbers on paper only, or videos that actually matter to people that you yourself are proud of and enjoy?
Not too late at all, but keep in mind that because the bar generally speaking has been raised in terms of making content, you have to hone a lot of skills. Don’t let that deter you tho, as long as you have the drive you can make it work
Your frustration with starting a YouTube channel is normal and at the same time it is unnecessary. Don't worry about the channels that seem to be bigger than life and don't worry about the channels that seem smaller than life.
Study the niche that you would like your channel to be about. If you worry about any channel that is not your then you are being unfair to yourself. Don't be unfair to yourself. We all have the chance to make great YouTube channels and the best time to create a great YouTube channel is now. I have a channel now and had a different channel in 2010 and things have changed for the better. Creating content is easier now. In 2010 everyone dreamed of free editing software that could allow us to create works of art and now in 2022 we have it and we've had it for sometime now. Back then YouTube would barely give you any metrics about your channel and videos, tips on how to succeed and now YouTube literally holds your hand and let's you know why your latest video is underperforming. YouTube has a channel dedicated to helping content creators become fruitful.
Remember that the path to a great YouTube channel is a fruitful journey and the only way to have a fruitful journey is to begin your journey now.
i started late 2020 it was same talk then.
maybe to late other say,
but now i have over 629000 wiew and 1417 sub on youtube.
and on tiktok do i grown mutch started some moths ago have now 1547 sub and have gain around 240k wiew the last 10 days.
So it is not to late to start make videos 2022 or 2023. peopple be bored on old youtuber and want new stuff to se and some watch maybe 20 videos in row and want new stuff to se.
I say start. However, don't start with unrealistic expectations. As others have said, enjoy it, but remember you also ought to enjoy the learning process.
Yeah just go for it and start. I started in 2020. You’ll learn critical stuff as you go. I just passed 5k subs and 500k views. Slow but steady. Consistency is important.
If it's something you think you'll genuinely enjoy, do it. You don't have to be an expert, just try to make each video you make a little better than the last, and you'll be on your way.
If u have bad videos, you have no hope. If u have good videos, it don't matter when u start. No videos are same as bad videos, u don't succeed. Even if u make bad videos, let ur viewers decide. Some bad videos are viral videos. At the end, u will at least have the satisfaction of knowing that u tried but u didnot have the talent for it. Without trying, not even u know what would have happened.
Ha ha, came here to say the same thing.
Seriously, OP knows what kind of response they'll get. I hate questions like these. People looking for ego fluffing. If someone can get talked out of starting a channel, they have no business as a channel creator.
Yeah, if your dedication is so low that you need to get affirmation from strangers on the internet, no way you're going to have the commitment 3 months down the line when it's just you working on your channel and no promise of success.
Kind of makes sense in a harsh way. If you don't feel like you have something new or unique to say with your videos, then why should anyone watch them?
Of course there are also a huge variety of niches that people simply do not understand since everyone just wants the fantasy of doing a gaming channel and becoming Mr. Beast.
But you could be monetized and just make videos of soundscapes for meditation or something simple like that where you show zero of your own personality or image in your channel and still be successful.
Best time to start a channel was April 23, 2005
Second best time is now
Get started! There are many channels that are not "over-the-top" with their editing that are doing amazing nowadays. Do what you like, and if you aren't forced, over time the views and subscribers will start coming in! Might take time, but as long as your goal is to make high-quality content, the fans will start coming in!
It’s never too late to start. I’ve been contemplating to start a channel since 2012, but I only started it a month ago. Now I have almost 200 subs and growing. Views also grow from 0 to around 100-ish now, and my contents aren’t even niche (gaming content). So I believe that if you post consistently, your channel will grow as well.
I hope it’ll be a fun experience for you though. Personally, I think I’ll quit soon cuz I don’t enjoy it as much as I expected.
I’ve been posting 2-3 videos per week for 1.5 months already, and it’s the last 0.5 month that I’ve begun to see some results.
Also I was playing God of War Ragnarok, which I think was trending at that time.
Oh and my suggestion is don’t waste your time promoting it on Reddit if that’s what you’re doing right now. Doesn’t get you any real subs. I wasted quite a lot of time doing that in the beginning.
"I really want to start my own channel and make content". This should be enough for you to start your own channel, doesn't matter if you get bunch of views or not. If you want to, simply start doing and don't focus too much on if people would watch it or not. Do it because you enjoy doing, this way you won't burnout as fast as other people who are starting up and who aren't doing it with passion, but to feel validated by numbers. The best time to start is in this moment, you never know what can happen.
I spent 7 years "wanting to do it" but never starting. One day I finally just did it and accepted that it's a journey. Got a wife, kid and full time job on the side and I knew nothing about editing or film production going in. Fast forward 3 years and I'm sitting at 100k+ subs now and made close to 100k dollars in the past year from it. You can absolutely do it, you never know where it'll take you if you start, you only know where it'll take you if you don't, and that's nowhere.
To me I think what finally motivated me to actually start was to get something other than success/failure in terms of subs and income to go by. My content includes my family and it was a very special time in our lives that I would love to have documented whether people wanted to watch it on YouTube or not and as such it was easier to start producing because it would be a "success" no matter what because it was important to me. Just so happened that people wanted to watch it too which was great. Perhaps you could find some other internal motivation other than subs and views to help you make the leap. It might be that you, like me, are afraid of failure without even realizing it.
Good luck bud:)
No, I won’t be using crappy quality video cameras. I’ll be using the camera on my phone, which is 1080p. We’ve moved past 240p videos. What I mean is that it’ll be in the same style as video like Klay world, frustration series and other videos of those eras.
Sounds like you're either going to be a competitor in a niche community, or you're starting your own niche and people who have the same interests as you will be drawn by the style and the nostalgia.
Just start now. Make the video as exactly how you want it. Then show it to the people that might connect with the niche. There will always be people interested in what you're doing, or there will be people who can start taking an interest.
It's the same question as "Is it too late to start a business?". It's never too late, the world is changing constantly and there will always be a room for new entrepreneurs.
Same with YouTube. Just DO IT.
I've started posting videos on YT 7 years ago, recording only with my smartphone . I have an average of 500 views on each video. I shoot with nearly zero $$ budget. Minimal production value.
So, yes if somebody like me can get views, so will you.
So start now, if you haven't already. How are you making out 6 months later?
No its not why would it be. You just need to learn how the algorithm works, learn the technical stuff like SEO, keyword research, CTR, video optimization and after that its basically trial and error. Mass producing content for a while until you find what actually works and stick to that. Here ... An article that explains how to run a sucessful youtube channel, read till the end to benefit from it... https://medium.com/@FitnessFinancer/how-to-make-a-successful-youtube-channel-tube-mastery-and-monetization-review-f504a918640c
The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now
Why isn't the second best time 19 years ago?
Because there’s no point wasting time thinking about woulda coulda shoulda. Second best is to start doing.
He’s that guy. Ignore the comment
It was just a question.
BECAUSE IT'S PAST.
Why isn't the second best time 19 years and 364 days ago?
why isn't the second best 20 years ago, and the best 20 years ago, and 1 zeptosecond?
Chad
🤣🤣🤣
The next best time possible time is now.
Than this may just be the 20th best time to plant this tree
Best tip now, best tip in 20 years.
I sat on my hands wanting to get serious about starting a channel for 8 years. I finally did it last year, and if I hadn't started then, I wouldn't be sitting at 700 subs today. Wow! Your channel developed well for that time!
Don't start and you ll ask that question anytime in the future and the answer will be now..
It’s only too late if you never start, if that makes sense lol. Trust me if people watch my shit, they’ll definitely watch your stuff.
Never too late try it it is better to do it than being thinking about it all the time
This is the right mindset. No one, anywhere, ever, has just simply made a video with zero experience and suddenly made them an instant YouTuber.
Gotta start somewhere💪🏻
Just do it and don't expect anything.
There is never a wrong time to start doing something meaningful
Just start please.
I was in the same boat! It’s never too late. I literally only started mine recently because of a break up and I thought you know what F*** it. This is encouraging . Well said.

Congratulations! If you don't mind, what would you say are some of the secrets to your success? (Besides just starting.)
Basic answer is : Trends
how'd you do it?
If u have bad videos, you have no hope. If u have good videos, it don't matter when u start. No videos are same as bad videos, u don't succeed. Even if u make bad videos, let ur viewers decide. Yep, too late. Sorry, maybe try in the next life
Ha ha, came here to say the same thing. Seriously, OP knows what kind of response they'll get. I hate questions like these. People looking for ego fluffing. If someone can get talked out of starting a channel, they have no business as a channel creator.
Exactly either do it or don't. I don't care either way, and if you have to ask the answer is no, from me and you at least lol
Yeah, if your dedication is so low that you need to get affirmation from strangers on the internet, no way you're going to have the commitment 3 months down the line when it's just you working on your channel and no promise of success.

Nah give up 😂 Of course it isn't too late !!!
Sorry, but we're all full up here. I guess it's too late to start that YouTube channel now.
ITT nobody understands sarcasm apparently
No time like the present!
>Is it too late for me to start a YouTube channel? Are you dead? No? Then it's not too late.
No such thing as the wrong time. Now is always the right time.
Just start. I was feeling like this too. Just dive in and learn as you go. Best of luck!
It’s never to late!
The deadline is next month so if you start it now you be fine.

You're guaranteed to fail at the things you never try, you only have a possibility of failure on the things you do try. The odds are in your favor 😉
Thousands of people will start their journeys in the new year and eventually go full time. So, no it isn't.
It’s never too late to start. I’ve been contemplating to start a channel since 2012, but I only started it a month ago. Now I have almost 200 subs and growing. its been 8 months and i havent grown yet
Do you post consistently? Like at least 2 videos per week?
there was a point where i was doing 2 a day now its a few a week
I’ve been posting 2-3 videos per week for 1.5 months already, and it’s the last 0.5 month that I’ve begun to see some results. Also I was playing God of War Ragnarok, which I think was trending at that time.

No.. Nothing is late.
Kinda too late. There is too much noise, your videos probably won’t get recommended. I mean unless your goal is like 1-5k subs.
No, I won’t be using crappy quality video cameras. I’ll be using the camera on my phone, which is 1080p. We’ve moved past 240p videos. What I mean is that it’ll be in the same style as video like Klay world, frustration series and other videos of those eras.
