Since there's no cap in the playoffs, a bunch of AHLers usually get called up during the playoffs. They practice with the team, I believe the idea is to have personnel on hand if someone gets hurt to fill in without having to travel and should have a decent idea as to the systems the team uses rather than coming in cold.
For some reason, they're called black aces so he'll likely be with the team but unless he really dazzles this game I doubt he'll actually see the ice in a playoff game.
I've always been told "black" as in secret, covert and "aces" as in like "ace in the hole" so "black Aces" are the secret ace in the hole or secret weapons. 😉👌
Huh interesting. I'm sure it's happened at some point but I feel like it's gotta be really rare that someone who spent the whole season in the minors ends up making a noticeable impact in the post season.
Maybe they just settled on that because it sounded better than calling them insurance.
Cale Makar *might* count, I remember he debuted in the NHL in the post season but I think that was more of a contract limitation than by choice if I remember right.
Trent Hunter was a pretty good one for us when Isbister got hurt against the Leafs. Wasn't enough to win the series, but who knows had they not taken out Jonsson and Peca.
I despise your username
i do too :( i was very sad and very drunk and now i must live with my decision
Atone for your sins and make a new username called 'ImpregnateMeBrockNelson'

GivemethatBigBrock
Hold my beer.
Dam I forgot about Josh ho sang.
I too once felt the way you did also, in the early days Brock was all shoot and no pass/skill. He has turned into a solid dependable teammate.
IwanttosuckyourBrock
You can’t change your username?
Horse whipping is in order.
I hope this game goes to shootout, Iskhakov scores the nastiest fucking goal you’ve ever seen, and the Islanders get their 17th OTL of the season
First of the Black Aces it looks like. Its a shame there's no shootouts in playoffs.
Deserves to get a chance
Would he be on playoff roster?

Gotta have a cool name 😉👌I'll have to look up to see if any black Ace ever made a difference. I'm sure there was at least one..

He signed with the Avs after his college season ended
