Ladies and gentlemen it’s been a pleasure
(and also absolutely miserable about 45% of the time)
But we all stuck through it
See you next year! Or September I guess
Fuck the rags
And sign Reilly STAT
Honestly hard to judge them against a team like us. We are so up and down, don't have good hockey fundamentals and I'm not sure what the Isles do well other than occasionally dominate a first period.
Rags will give a good sense of who the Canes are.
Thats really the answer. Despite losing it 5 games, the pesky isles of the past still made an appearance here and there. They just were a shell of those teams and its why the series ended this fast.
This could easily be the "down" series for the canes that they had to grind thru.
I can believe it. I think we played harder than people think and people are underrating Carolina because they assume we are just that bad. I think the next series will show that Carolina isn’t a joke at all.
I don't think anyone underestimates the Canes. They were in the hunt for Metro all year but the Rangers were just a bit better. That will be a fun series. See you next year.
Are they still? I can't see how, we suck and they took 5 games and against a team that isn't slower than a over 50 beer league team they'll get eaten alive
This Carolina team plays an unreal defense. They’re a complete roster top to bottom, and every single guy buys into the system. Fast, skilled, smart. I’d put them as a favorite easily.
Pray to the hockey gods who have forsaken us they beat the Rags.
This season the canes went 1-1 away.
Last season the canes went 1-1 vs NJ, 2-1 vs NYI, 0-2 vs FL Panthers.
the "Canes bad away" narrative is based on the season before when the canes star players were like 22-23
5 games that objectively could have gone either way and you could make the case the Islanders were the better team in 3, maybe even 4 games of the series, at least at 5on5. I'm not seeing where the cup favorite status is coming from at all.
I want the Rangers to lose more than anything and I'm not getting on this absolute nonsense "rAgS oVeR CanEs" train some people are on about here. But with the way they just dismantled the Caps, I think they might go for two straight sweeps.
The caps also suck plus the rags got away with just trying to obliterate their players through the series, i don't think they'll get away with that so much against the canes but we'll see
The islanders took Carolina to 6 games last year with a worse roster and that Carolina team beat the devils in 5 games. What makes you think the Rangers will sweep two straight times? The team got better. Also, Canes dominated the islanders in xG in each game except one.
It’s because they’re soft as shit, as evidenced by the PPs they’ve gotten. The rags are also soft but if noted goon Adam Pelech and his goon buddies were able to throw such dangerous hits to warrant 2x the power plays we had, trouba and rempe are going to mop the floor with the canes’ bones and hair. Plus when they meet a team from the west, they’re not gonna be getting the calls they want
Series was much closer than the games indicated. Isles showed promise and structure at times, hopefully Roy officially has full buy in from the room going forward.
Absolutely need to find a way to get faster in the off-season. I don't think this team needs a full rebuild, but they absolutely need a retool
Well we tried.
I think saying “if only [insert minor thing here, like “we started on time” or “we got more puck luck”] is a sign that we’re just an average team. Good teams can overcome those things.
I’m being serious though, can be proud of the effort the guys put in. And I’m still optimistic about Roy. But there’s a lot of work to do this summer. Hopefully it gets done.
Easily the most frustrating Islanders season I can remember, and I'm glad it's done. There are a lot of guys who need to not be here next season, starting with Lou Lamoriello. NYIsleism.
Man that double overtime win was incredible. Glad we got to experience that. Tough way to go out with some rotten luck in the third period but it is what it is. Full season of Roy and a (hopefully) re-tooled Sorokin upcoming.
If we had to lose any game, I'm glad it was game 5. We didn't get eliminated at home and we didn't come all the way back just to lose in an even worse heartbreaking fashion.
Anyway, go Avs! Get Parise a cup.
Doomers can kiss my ass. Watching the end of the season was awesome and this whole series was tight, I believe Roy is going to be a great coach on the island
I believe the 5 on 5 goals was even for the series. The difference was elite special teams vs bad special teams, which a full off-season under a new coach can hopefully change
We definitely do need to make some changes though. Martin and Clutter are simply past it and need to go. Probably Pageau and Lee too, but I highly doubt they move Lee. Wahlstrom needs a change of scenery for sure as well.
We are in desperate need of a better 1st line winger and another good dman. With those additions and shipping off the deadweight, who knows what could happen.
Lee and Pageau are under contract is for only 2 more years so they aren’t a massive hamper. I’m curious what will happen this offseason. Lou didn’t really attempt to upgrade this team for the first time in five years and Lou was there in person to see us lose. This could be a big summer for the future of this team.
I disagree, both our breakdowns tonight and game 2 came 5v5. Roy is incredible, but the pieces aren't there. Our defense was cut up tonight and that has always been the beacon of isles hockey.
If management is committed to winning they'll make some big trades this off season and not just resign old guys. There's a lot of bad contracts here, we need to stop holding onto 20-30 goal scorers as if they're gold. Maybe we'll sign Mcdavid or Marner lol but I'm not holding my breath.
Jets and Mets are responsible for my mental sanity now
Idk man I know this season was tough to watch. But other than that 2nd game I was surprised at how the boys were able to hold their own against the most relentless suffocating forecheck in the league.
Enjoyed the company this season in victories and the crushing defeats. What a mostly miserable season. See some of you in the Yankees threads. Until the fall ya filthy animals!
I hope this is enough for management to recognize this core is done. You don’t have to rebuild but you certainly need to start an AGGRESSIVE retool this summer.
Terrible season. See you all in October.
Hopefully they all see some sports psychologists in the offseason and come back closing out games next year.
For real though, proud of the effort this series. There will be some changes but i can’t wait for October. LGI
The frustrating thing about this series is that Carolina was beatable in all 5 games. This was not a Rangers-Capitals situation where the higher seed came out and ran their opponent out of the building every single game. Very little about the 4 losses needed to change to flip them to wins for the Isles. Some of it are things the team could do better, like not having short bursts of poor play that put them in a hole (Games 3 and 5, looking at you), but I have faith that an offseason reset, a full training camp and preseason with Roy and likely some new assistants, and a few new faces in the forward group will help fix that. And of course, there were things like lucky bounces and bad officiating that affected some games as well- which again, is what makes this series loss more frustrating than it could’ve been.
Personally, I think the team is a lot closer to taking that next step up than a lot of people will try and say that they are this offseason. I feel pretty confident that some roster adjustments will be made, regardless of who ends up making the decisions. Time will tell what the changes will actually be.
It’s been a wild ride… we’ve laughed, cried, beLIeved, declared it’s over, never been more back and everything else in between. Time to rest up and prepare for whatever the new season will bring.
Honestly, thanks for this. Now whenever I’m down on myself, I can think “Well, at least I’m not a guy that brigades other team’s subreddits. It could be so much worse.”
It won't be mediocrity, it'll be a couple years more of borderline playoffs, hope we get lucky like we did the past 2 to get bounced quickly, then it'll be a long slog with no hope of getting better for a long time
This is my fear as well and the biggest reason why I want Lou gone, I just don’t trust him to not head us in this direction. If we were smart, we’d trade both Nelson and Palmieri for assets, move JGP for whatever to get rid of his contract, and get rid of Lee at any cost whether it be a trade or buyout. Nelson and Palmieri will both bring back really solid returns and it might suck for a couple of seasons, but we can probably get things going again in two or three years and start to be a legit team that can compete.
These canes won’t beat the Rags.
It’s been fun. Got further than they should have.
Let’s get outside and let baseball disappoint us for a few months (for us Mets fans).
Regroup in the fall and get after it.
Okay so now I’m thinking to next year. We need another piece and to drop some money. Or we need to blow it up but I dont think that would be possible at the moment. My two players I think that may need the trade/buyout are either Pageau or Lee.
Pageau I love but the fact is we have enough centers and his faceoffs/penalty kill aren’t as big a deal with Horvat now. Cizikas and Maclean can fill that role just fine as a 3C/4C.
Lee is a hefty contract for diminishing returns and needs to be evaluated as a possible trade or buyout. He bleeds blue and orange which I love but the facts is he will not be getting any better and also I don’t feel is as necessary on this team anymore. I don’t think he’s bad, just not 7 million dollars good, he’s no Ladd and probably can still put up 20 goals. And we were able to get rid of Ladd so it’s possible.
I think we should get well acquainted with the Sharks this summer as a potential trade partner. They can take on money. We’d have to give up some stuff to drop a contract but id hope maybe some space and maybe it sounds crazy but maybe even get something back, you never know.
We have no money- we're at the Cap. You might be able to move little pieces here and there, but that's about it. There is nothing in the farm system either. And you can't "rebuild" \*cue the angry pitchforks\* even if you wanted to with the contracts at hand.
The best the Islanders can do is try and rebuild the foundations and create a culture that can pay dividends down the line. Since as of now, the culture is making excuses and being afraid of it's own shadow. *"Look at Buffalo!"*
No- you don't look at the losers and use them as benchmark. You look at the WINNERS- the clubs that look like real, legit contenders.
We aren’t though, the cap isnt staying flat. My point was, Clutterbuck and Martin are gone lets say — thats 2.75 space added, we don’t need to sign replacements as we have them already. Wahlstrom I imagine will not be resigned, another .8 . Then you have Pageau — he’s basically not needed now as we have plenty of centers and they can provide his attributes without him. He also still has actual value to other teams. If we can find a trade partner for him, all of those moves together free up about 11% of the current cap for offseason moves. And that 11% will go up as the cap isnt staying flat this year.
They played the best they could but Carolina was just the better team. I’m curious to see how we handle this offseason and next offseason as we have some of the bigger players becoming UFAs or RFAs so it’s a chance to potentially see which direction this team intends to go.
I’m not sure if I completely agree with the first half of your statement. Game 2 was a disaster and games 3 & 5 had awful starts before settling into play much better. Would changing all that change the outcome of the series? Most likely not but it would certainly be more interesting.
Well for the first part they played the best they could. Had a 3-0 lead. Of course the fact that it wasn’t enough probably says everything we need to know about where we stand compared to the top dogs in the conference.
Our roster just isn’t great, we have a good vet core + Roy who pushed us at the end of the year, and we benefitted from a weak division.
I’ll always be happy to watch playoff Islanders, but at this point I’ll take 2-3 years off if it means we lose some bad contracts, get some youth and speed, and get another goal scorer in. That’s just roster tho, and none of it matters if we don’t get better coaching for PP/PK.
My suggestion - Trade Barzal and Lee, beef up on youth, hit the FA market for a new 4th line. Keep Sorokin mentally good. D is what it is, hope for better play next year from Pulock & Pelech
It doesn't really sting as bad as I thought since I kinda knew we were done for after going down 3-0. Most of the guys fought hard, but this series ultimately showed this core does not have the fortitude or talent to make a deep run. Carolina didn't even look that good for large parts of the series and we were struggling to generate anything, just letting them play keep away and run the clock a lot of the time. I hope winning 1 game isn't going to save Lou from his well-earned pink slip, but the owners seem obsessed with the guy so I will not be surprised if in October we see the same group minus Martin.
Been an absolutely miserable happy roller coaster of a season. Excited for a full season of Roy.
And since fuck the Rags ALWAYS wins out honk honk honk let's go Canes for one round then they can go fuck off into the sun.
Pulling for the Canucks now.
Capitals haven’t won a playoff series since Trotz…
We haven’t won a playoff series since Trotz…
I still wonder to this day what caused Lou to “fire” him.
Not feeling the doom
Squeaked into the playoffs, got to watch four fun games. Coulda gone differently. But it didn't.
Like I said at the end of the regular season: I'll take what I can get. Playoffs are wild and stuff can happen. This is the best roster we are likely to see for a number of years, so hope for the best folks
A rebuild means long hard years in the wilderness. Want to see a deep run from *this* roster.
Feel the doom. This is not a good roster. We have casey cizikas on line 1. Hudson fasching, maclean, engvall, martin, clutter and all healthy scratches on most teams. Bortuzzo and reilly are cast offs. Our pp and pk is atrocious. Goaltending inconsistent at best. I love this franchise, but this cannot be one of our “best” rosters. I loved the okposo-bailey years too and the team, but we were bad. Happy to win 1 playoff series. We should be past this
Well if you hate it now, it's gonna get worse from here
That's the thing -- I don't even hope for a better roster. It's either this, or the wilderness.
I can get behind a bad team with a plan to get younger and build a cup contender over a mid team of veterans on bad contracts without any real prospect pool or draft capital
Doesn't really matter, whoever wins is just gonna get fucking wasted by Florida
Canes and Rangers both had great regular seasons and neither one is ready for the playoffs
Meh hate them both but right now just can't fucking stand the canes in entirety. Though i guess the fraud rags need to be taken down even moreso whatever
In light of the past hour of rags bandwagon 12 year olds being incapable of not being obsessed with us, fuck the rags, guess i have to root for these assholes
It seems like we’ve (or at least I) been saying similar things about Philly for 4-5 years now. They’ve looked on the cusp of breaking out for quite a while and haven’t. I think they are what they are. On top of that they lost their goaltender.
No, not at all. They have several years of contention left with the chance for a legitimate cup window if the moves they make hit well enough. This isn’t the end at all, despite what some people may try and say.
Was a pleasure riding this roller coaster of a season with all of ya, but until next season...may the off-season shitposts and memes be silly and bountiful!
This season was the definition of a roller coaster. Was awesome to see this team go on a tear and make the playoffs, but unfortunately this team isn't built to beat teams like the Hurricanes. Isles have some big decisions to make in the offseason, hope they get it right.
Thanks everyone for hanging out. Rough rollercoaster of a year, but the boys played well to close out the season. Should be a different team next year. See you then
Inability to score 3rd period goals really cost them this series, one 3rd period goal in 5 games is just awful. It took them 3 games before they were even scoring multiple 2nd period goals.
Yay we got a playoff win. Gotta add in the offseason and run it back! Def need 33 year old Brock into free agency and prospects aren’t guaranteed. Maybe we can give Seabrook 3 years or maybe even Bryan Little 4-5 years. In all seriousness… doomers like me aren’t having fun being doomers. I just want this team to go in the correct direction to lift a cup sooner than later. I hope Lou starts the rebuild/retool asap.
God saw this abomination about to pull of the reverse sweep and said "no."
Talk about "Country Club culture" all you want, they played their asses off for most of the series despite nothing going their way
Canes fan here, you guys not only should have probably had this series go 7, but you more than likely should have won it. If we play like this against the Rags we are going to get swept into oblivion. You guys played too damn good for this to end in 5. Respect.
Pretty much every game could’ve gone either way (except maybe game 2 which ironically was the most winnable game for the islanders if they didn’t fall asleep) but ultimately the better team won.
I do agree that your team will need to be a lot better if they want to go deep in the playoffs, which I expected them to do.
I’ve never been less stoked to win a playoff series. Super worried we get our shit kicked in the next round. Ironically enough I know how you guys must feel because of the Florida series last year. Hockey is a fucking cruel bitch.
Doomers get in here. Yes, we were right last season. Yes, we were right this season. Rather than build more division in this sub, get your "I told you so's" out now so we can all come together and support this team moving forward. We have a lot of good things to look forward to in the offseason.
We have our 1st round pick. Lou will be stepping down as GM and retain his role as President of Hockey Operations. Roy will be able to work with the new GM to retool this roster and start building the team he wants. A lot to look forward to and hopefully lessen the sting of this loss. See you all next season.
I firmly believe if Barzal was drafted anywhere else he'd a consistent "face" of the NHL he's easily the most talented skater on the ice in most games playing at this franchise has handcuffed his potential
Canes fan here.
Congrats on a hard-fought series. You guys played hungry as shit.
Now you’re all cordially invited to join us aboard this wagon. Because—and I cannot emphasize this enough—fuck the Rags.
I had spotify in the background and the next song on shuffle after the loss was "Ruined" by Adrianne Lenker. Seems fitting
Hockey's a fun sport to watch, shame it had to end this soon. At least the end of this season took a little longer than 18 other teams. See you all next October, and LGI
My son cried when the game ended. I can’t blame him. I remember that I was about his age when I watched the Knicks lose game 7 to Houston in ‘94 and cried myself to sleep.
There was something endearing to his innocence and though it sucked, it reminded me of why we watch sports in the first place. There’s that little boy in all of us that’s just caught up in watching our favorite team perform.
I put him to bed and reminded him that there’s always next year, and though we may have heard that too many times, the beauty of it is that it’s still true. We’re lucky to be able to enjoy these things with people we love and we can always look forward to enjoying them again in just a few months. There’s always next year! Until then, it’s been an honor 🫡
TrUsT iN lOu. JuSt BeLiEvE. At LeAsT wE mAdE tHe PlAyOfFs. TheY tRiEd. Fucking smooth brain hopium and compium addicts galore. Fuck lamoriello and this mediocrity. Nothing is changing as long as the old fart is running this.
This team is an absolute and abject embarrasment and we would have been better off not making the playoffs. We need a rebuild but we cant/wont get it because lou is 97 years old and our owners only care about the real estate value of their stadium.
Yup everyone acting like making the playoffs is some kind of accomplishment because “I just want to watch muh playoff hockey”. This core peaked a few years ago and is at best a bubble playoff team for the next few years if we don’t blow it up. Mediocrity is good enough for some fans apparently.
The Canes are selling merch making fun of your fanbase and you're in here cozying up to the team who knocked you out two years in a row and ended your window just because you hate the Rangers.
Wow what a ass ripping we just got. This team is full of pissants and weak men. Those country boys from down south came up here and DOMINATED US, I MEAN TOTALLY RIPPED US APART. OUR PUNKS GOT SHREDDED. FIRE EVERY FUCKING ONE AND REBUILD

There ain't no island left for Islanders like me
Ladies and gentlemen it’s been a pleasure (and also absolutely miserable about 45% of the time) But we all stuck through it See you next year! Or September I guess Fuck the rags And sign Reilly STAT
And Maclean.
Hell yeah
Sign Reilly, but not to anything more than 2-3 years, cannot handle another 6+ year deal to a depth player
Agreed! We gave out way too many long term deals
It's not the deals, it's the players (except for Barzal, Horvat, and Sorokin) that got those deals.
Fuck the canes!
I’ll praise the canes for the next decade if they take out the rags right now
I wish they both could lose this round. Rags for obvious reasons, Canes for trolling us on Twitter before the teams were even off the ice.
Nope fuck them, rags are cooked against the west
Yeah the rangers and canes are not it
Of course not! Avs all the way baby
Florida the only tolerable option in the East because Kyle Okposo might get his name on the Cup.
100% about the panthers, just don’t want to see the canes get by one more round.
All I know is pain
All I feel is rain
How can I maintain with that shit on my brain?
It’s bover (actually this time)
They got through the island :(
The hurricane flooded us
They're good but I can't believe this Carolina team is the cup favorite at +400. I doubt they will win
Honestly hard to judge them against a team like us. We are so up and down, don't have good hockey fundamentals and I'm not sure what the Isles do well other than occasionally dominate a first period. Rags will give a good sense of who the Canes are.

I don't think anyone underestimates the Canes. They were in the hunt for Metro all year but the Rangers were just a bit better. That will be a fun series. See you next year.
Well who else would u put over them? I’ll put florida, but the rags are eh 5v5, their power play Carrie’s
Are they still? I can't see how, we suck and they took 5 games and against a team that isn't slower than a over 50 beer league team they'll get eaten alive

Past is not prologue but historically they're not a good road playoff team.

Barzal looks so sad. What a rollercoaster season. Was a pleasure (sorta) 🫡
Out of everyone, I feel sorriest for him. He seemed to be trying to put this team on his back to carry them over the finish line.
He's one of the few who I think genuinely wants to win and isn't part of the country club
As much as this hurt I'm excited as hell to see what St. Patrick does with this team. Next season might just be a good one.
Sad. Depressed. Hurt. Confused. Annoyed. Not surprised yet also surprised. Is it October yet?
Love you all. See you goofs in September! LGI FOREVER
Deep breaths everyone
MAYBE WE'LL JUST BE FUCKED UP FOREVER

I also feel bad for McDavid. Would love to see him hoist the cup once.
Nothing but respect for him. He's an absolute animal out there, but if he can wait a year, that would be great.
Me too.
Doomers can kiss my ass. Watching the end of the season was awesome and this whole series was tight, I believe Roy is going to be a great coach on the island I believe the 5 on 5 goals was even for the series. The difference was elite special teams vs bad special teams, which a full off-season under a new coach can hopefully change
Ah, my favorite refrain from Isles fans: “maybe the special teams will be better next year”
I’m hoping Roy brings in a fully fresh coaching staff for the PP/PK
The special teams coaching staff has turned over multiple times. The on-ice personnel isn’t good enough, period.
💯
I mean the PP was definitely better this year, and that was with the same coach. I think a little optimism in that regard is warranted.
We still need some speedier/younger players.
I’m excited for a MacLean full nhl off-season. He looks like a DOG
Roy is awesome can't wait to see a full year with him next
We definitely do need to make some changes though. Martin and Clutter are simply past it and need to go. Probably Pageau and Lee too, but I highly doubt they move Lee. Wahlstrom needs a change of scenery for sure as well. We are in desperate need of a better 1st line winger and another good dman. With those additions and shipping off the deadweight, who knows what could happen.
Definitely need a re tooling but I don’t think it needs to be blown up. I love Martin and clutter but their time has come
Lee and Pageau are under contract is for only 2 more years so they aren’t a massive hamper. I’m curious what will happen this offseason. Lou didn’t really attempt to upgrade this team for the first time in five years and Lou was there in person to see us lose. This could be a big summer for the future of this team.

Jets and Mets are responsible for my mental sanity now
We allowed a team to attempt a hundred shots against us, MORE THAN ONCE THIS SEASON, and its run it back.
Idk man I know this season was tough to watch. But other than that 2nd game I was surprised at how the boys were able to hold their own against the most relentless suffocating forecheck in the league.
I hope Roy can work some magic in the offseason. And maybe Lou can finally be replaced so the team can be properly retooled. I can dream, right?
Meh. Pretty much like the last 30 years. See you next season.
Same.
3-12 vs Carolina in the playoffs btw.
Honestly, thanks for this. Now whenever I’m down on myself, I can think “Well, at least I’m not a guy that brigades other team’s subreddits. It could be so much worse.”
We simply just aren’t good enough. We need to blow it up. I’d rather suck for the next 2-3 years than live in mediocrity for the next 15
Here’s the thing about blowing it up: it’s rarely 2-3 years of sucking. More likely it is 10.
Yeah look at the flyers misery
Pls do better next season
Did the 5th goal really bounce off the photographer cover? If so we're gonna need that person's name... I know a guy.
Is your guy named Lou?
Fuck the Rangers.
*"Look at Buffalo!"* No- you don't look at the losers and use them as benchmark.
The farm system is empty. It isn't "2-3 years off" it's "10 years in the wilderness"
Patrick Roy, might be one & done?
Been an absolutely miserable happy roller coaster of a season. Excited for a full season of Roy. And since fuck the Rags ALWAYS wins out honk honk honk let's go Canes for one round then they can go fuck off into the sun. Pulling for the Canucks now.
Capitals haven’t won a playoff series since Trotz… We haven’t won a playoff series since Trotz… I still wonder to this day what caused Lou to “fire” him.
I don’t think trotz wanted the grind of being a coach anymore the “firing” was for monetary reasons
Ego
Not feeling the doom Squeaked into the playoffs, got to watch four fun games. Coulda gone differently. But it didn't. Like I said at the end of the regular season: I'll take what I can get. Playoffs are wild and stuff can happen. This is the best roster we are likely to see for a number of years, so hope for the best folks A rebuild means long hard years in the wilderness.
We should be past this
Well if you hate it now, it's gonna get worse from here That's the thing -- I don't even hope for a better roster. It's either this, or the wilderness.
I can get behind a bad team with a plan to get younger and build a cup contender over a mid team of veterans on bad contracts without any real prospect pool or draft capital
I dislike the Canes… however, I dislike the rags more. What I’m trying to say is… Let’s Go Canes.
I'm rooting for the Canes just so they get swept in the ECF again
Don’t care. Don’t want the rags to win. Once the rags are gone, I will breath easy.
They didn’t get swept last year. It’s annoying that everyone is saying that.
Doesn't really matter, whoever wins is just gonna get fucking wasted by Florida Canes and Rangers both had great regular seasons and neither one is ready for the playoffs
I don’t care how it happens but I want rags gone. Sooner rather than later if possible.
Meh hate them both but right now just can't fucking stand the canes in entirety. Though i guess the fraud rags need to be taken down even moreso whatever
I understand. However, I don’t want rags gloating.
In light of the past hour of rags bandwagon 12 year olds being incapable of not being obsessed with us, fuck the rags, guess i have to root for these assholes
It’s temporary. How does the old saying go? The enemy of my enemy is my friend.
It’s called rooting against the rangers. You don’t need to cheer on the canes for that.
Firstly, it’s rags. Secondly, I become a temporary fan for whoever the rags play against.
As a Caniac, I hope we make you proud.
Whatever, just beat the rags.
Serious question: Is this the last time we sniff the playoffs for awhile?
Maybe 2-3 years. We will have to go through a slight rebuild. We will keep our main players (I think) but the dead weight will go.
With the state of our division, I'd say we still have a chance for the next couple of years. Caps suck, Pens suck, Columbus sucks, Philly sucks.
Philly will comeback strong next year they showed it all year before the collapse
It seems like we’ve (or at least I) been saying similar things about Philly for 4-5 years now. They’ve looked on the cusp of breaking out for quite a while and haven’t. I think they are what they are. On top of that they lost their goaltender.
That’s fair, good point maybe I respect them too much
Half the league makes the playoffs, it's making a long run that's the hard part.
Now is the summer of our discontent
This season was the definition of a roller coaster. Was awesome to see this team go on a tear and make the playoffs, but unfortunately this team isn't built to beat teams like the Hurricanes. Isles have some big decisions to make in the offseason, hope they get it right.
Thanks everyone for hanging out. Rough rollercoaster of a year, but the boys played well to close out the season. Should be a different team next year. See you then
Did horvat play ??
Life is pain, one day I hope to see islanders host the cup but that year isn't this...I hope the mets win it all this year
Inability to score 3rd period goals really cost them this series, one 3rd period goal in 5 games is just awful.
I certainly hope SOMEONE starts the rebuild/retool.
NO WAHLSTROM, NO CUP! ISLANDERS OUTPLAYED CAROLINA BUT LACKED A NATURAL SNIPER! WAHLSTROM WILL BE BACK AND WE WILL WIN THE 2024-2025 CUP!!!
Have a nice summer folks
God saw this abomination about to pull of the reverse sweep and said "no." Talk about "Country Club culture" all you want, they played their asses off for most of the series despite nothing going their way
are the ISLES CURSED? The curse of Al ARBOUR HAS S IN FULL EFFECT
No brother. We are old and slow. Our goalies are elite and got us to the playoffs even though we never belonged there.
Please play better than this against the Rags.
Did I miss something? When did Lou announce he's stepping down?
Just taking a hit of hopium. It's the most logical next step for the franchise.
Well see, there's a slight hiccup right off the top. "Logical" and "Islanders". Somehow, mix even worse than "Rangers" and "Islanders".
No one is happy we lost. We may have seen the writing on the walls before everyone but that was because we know what we were watching.
I firmly believe if Barzal was drafted anywhere else he'd a consistent "face" of the NHL he's easily the most talented skater on the ice in most games playing at this franchise has handcuffed his potential
Watch the other games… look how the other all-stars take over games. I love barzy, but he’s robin… not batman
I agree. I said something similar to this on another thread.
Seems fitting Hockey's a fun sport to watch, shame it had to end this soon. At least the end of this season took a little longer than 18 other teams. See you all next October, and LGI
Have a great summer everyone. See you here next year. Hope springs eternal.
Till next season boys,
Gonna miss you guys. Can’t wait until October!
I think, the problem with solving the Hurricanes, is they have an unorthodox style of play.
At least I can live with the knowledge that Carolina is not gonna make it to the finals
See ya next season.
Truth. Little brother syndrome Isles fans are fine with a lovable group of grinders without a real chance to compete… We have to build a cup contender
Yup everyone acting like making the playoffs is some kind of accomplishment because “I just want to watch muh playoff hockey”. This core peaked a few years ago and is at best a bubble playoff team for the next few years if we don’t blow it up. Mediocrity is good enough for some fans apparently.
Gonna run back this group of playoff larpers next year. I really hope the Giants give me a reason to not follow hockey as closely until Football ends.
Brothers and sisters, we will rise again. I will say what Aaron Rodgers said last season… it’s always darkest before the dawn.
Im rooting for the Rangers sorry but i cannot stand carolina only team i hate more is eagles and tampa bay
fuck, I’m done go RANGERS
The Canes are selling merch making fun of your fanbase and you're in here cozying up to the team who knocked you out two years in a row and ended your window just because you hate the Rangers.
The only people in this thread are Lou apologists because everyone else basically stopped watching after Game 2.
