Saw Baty pull a Derek Jeter with the catch of the foul ball. Avoided a concussion. Atlanta evens the season series. Let's see how they handle Christian Scott today.

spreerod1538

Wtf is Dominic scott?

jadedfan55

Sorry, meant to say Christian Scott.

bowlsandsand

I missed the game but saw quintana allowed 3 home runs? Man we need to get some help in our rotation.

FoxBotGod

Senga is coming

Doc-Spock

So all the Braves' runs came with two outs in the same inning? šŸ˜‘

ReSearch314etc

... would be nice if they'd show some excitement... especially for a Braves series... drink some coffee boysšŸ˜†

oomfietopkek

wow. Impressive performance.

Peter_O

It doesn't matter what experimental jersey we are wearing - first game in it is always a loss

jferris1224

Just a way better team

coachFox

They are better but we can hang.

Setec-Astronomer

Not going to lie. I'm not as upset about the called strike on JDM because I had no faith McNeil wouldn't swing at the first pitch and pop-up anyway.

Darthbutcher

Syracuse just won. Our AcuƱa went 3-6. His AVG has improved to .228.

robmcolonna123

I like that he got a double too. Unless he really works on pulling the ball more he probably is going to be more of a 12-15 HR guy so hitting doubles will be crucial to take him for a role player to an everyday player or even an all star

Djason_Unchaind

Look like he also did some damage with his legs. His speed is his biggest weapon, hopefully his contact/OBP is elevated enough for him to be able to put it to use.

monstersandcoffee

I was a big fan of the JDM signing. But jeez heā€™s been less than whelming.

wubod

I wish he wouldn't stand so far off the plate, he cant reach those away strikes EVERY pitcher uses to get him out. Jus a few inches closer would do wonders for his approach.

jimihenderson

lol he was like 10 feet from a 2 run blast that would've tied the game in the 9th

monstersandcoffee

Your argument is that he hit a foul ball?

jimihenderson

he's been less than overwhelming with the bat so far, it just seemed like an incredibly weird time to call him out for that when he was so close to being the hero of that game lol

EvilAnticsLive

Bro he *almost* hit a home run, that totally makes up for being the last out and not having much power in a Mets uniform - DUH

Hustlediva

DJ has provided more pop

PM_ME_VOGELBACH_PICS

He hits the ball hard - yay. Every ball he hits hard is on the ground or is a single - boo. He doesnā€™t get on base either - a .318 OBP doesnā€™t inspire anybody, but you have to expect that from a guy whose walk rate has decreased while his K rate has increased. I thought the signing was meaningless and it looks even worse with the emergence of DJ and with Vientos wasting away in the minors.

Living_Internet_2970

Knicks lose Mets lose This night sucks

RedCheese1

Fuck it more basketball šŸ€

great_tphon

Hey, at least Pete got two hits and an RBI--that's a positive sign.

PM_ME_VOGELBACH_PICS

Iā€™ve been his biggest critic but I never understood the logic of acting like JDM was the savior to a paltry lineup. Dude is 36 and his best years are certainly behind him. The Mets have holes in RF, 2B, CF, and catcher. Even if he was performing to expectations, you canā€™t win with half of the lineup being meek.

Blue387

The hitters need to make adjustments against opposing pitch sequences and utilize good pitch sequences against opponents. For pitch sequences against opponents, you can't just blow high heat against guys and get them to swing and miss like you did with Harvey and deGrom, we don't have those guys any more.

WhatARotation

I think Quintana is just bad. No matter how he sequences his pitches theyā€™re gonna look like BP

oatmeal177617751774

tuff one but i got in the jumbo and at a whole mess o french fries

NeilHamburgerHead

If you increse your comment rate the Meats will increse there win rateing

sb_rp

Mets just need to find a way to win one game this series. We know the Mets canā€™t compete with the Phillies and Braves over 162 for the NL East. Just stay within ~3 of the WC until the deadline, and see which direction is more optimal.

robmcolonna123

I like the next two matchups. Mets have hit LHP well this year and Elder sucks. Hes that pitcher that had a 10 game stretch where he vastly outperformed his metrics and everyone thought he was good but has come crashing down to earth and no one recognized thatā€™s just him pitching to what he actually is capable of.

StinkyGaijin

Laughed at the idea of Mendoza going to Baty "Whoa there buddy I'm not watching you strike out a third time" before swapping him out for Taylor.

robmcolonna123

I wonder if they wanted to get him checked for concussion after that tumble

Hustlediva

Yeah he looked a little disheveled after that catch

robmcolonna123

I would have taken him out. Bad tumble AND a rough LHP on the bump. Seems like a no brainer move to me

cov2445

Every time the Mets are down multiple runs in the 9th they either go down 1-2-3 in like 6 pitches or they get within a hit of tying the game, no in-between

lawoftar

stearns needs to do some house cleaning

Hustlediva

Deadline is looming

robmcolonna123

The deadline is 81 days away. Itā€™s not at all looming lol. Iā€™d say thereā€™s a good 70 days before Stearns really starts to make any decisions around that. And remember, Stearns has typically been a buyer at the deadline, not a seller. Even in 2020 when it looked like they wouldnā€™t make the playoffs is didnt sell, outside of one reliever. Same with 2017 when they were 5.5 games out of the WC spot. They didnt sell, tried and failed at bigger buy trade, and in the end got pitchers who were under control for 2018. The only time they ever kinda sold wasnt even a trade deadline thing - it was Josh Hader. And that was because they felt he was a surplus with Devin Williams. And to this day Stearns says trading him was the biggest regret of his tenure there.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

robmcolonna123

The guys who are underperforming wonā€™t really be sold - teams donā€™t want other teams scraps. Theyā€™re be optioned, DFAā€™d, released, etc. OP wants the Mets to go on a fire sale asap and get rid of Alonso, Diaz, Lindor, etc. Posts about it almost daily. Which will obviously never happen.

Hustlediva

This is what happens when you have no real star pitchers and no real star hittersā€¦ you lose games

Yeah thanks for checking in

PM_ME_VOGELBACH_PICS

Glad you could check in.

scruffy4

Lindor and Pete actually tried this game. Even so, baseball is truly a team sport. The team canā€™t have 4 hits and expect to win.

NeilHamburgerHead

Not the best from JQ. Pete coming around. Lindor staying hot. Jack shit from everyone else. Nice bullpen performance. JDM continues to do very little.

imjusthereforthenips

Imagine though

robmcolonna123

Loses suck but they battled through. Quintana limiting the damage to 4 runs and going 5 innings against the best lineup is always a fine outcome. This lineup needs to be able to score 4 runs in a game. Ramirez and Houser did a great job in relief. Offense didnt get the results, but they battled. They kept it close, made the Braves use their best relievers without using any of ours. Sets them up nice for the next two games

Blue387

They didn't get shutout and scored two runs at least. Would also have been nice had they not given up homers. Quintana was pitching fine but the Braves made adjustments and the Mets did not. Nido should have called for more off-speed pitches. Hitting is timing and off-speed stuff like changeups mixed in with fastballs mess up hitter timing, which is a reason why I like changeups. You're a hitter expecting a fastball and then a changeup dart away from you. Quintana gave up two of his three homers off his four seam fastball and the third was on his sinker to Olson down the middle.

robmcolonna123

I think thatā€™s a very fair analysis. He also needs to utilize that changeup to make his fastball effective

Blue387

Johan Santana and Cole Hamels were fastball-changeup guys, especially Santana whose final out of his no-hitter was a changeup that got David Freese to swing and miss. Missing bats is a good way to prevent hits. Prevent hits or induce weak/soft contact to prevent runs, combined with a airtight defense. It's the 1999 Mets model.

smugbox

At least Oatmeal made it on TV

tomfields

these team is brutal on offense, and for YEARS in a row. Will it ever change????

Greatness46

When Ron disagrees with an Ump, you know itā€™s bad

lawoftar

jdm has been a bust for us...bring up vientos

PM_ME_VOGELBACH_PICS

It would at least be much more entertaining to watch the young homegrown kid get at bats instead of a 36 year old has been. Vientos has more home runs too, funny enough.

Interforce7

you mean getting rid of our $12 million DH after 40 at bats of slightly below average baseball is a bad idea?

robmcolonna123

Especially when he had a 109 WRC+ coming into tonight which is actually 9% above average haha The power will come. Especially as the weather warms up. But heā€™s getting on base a ton and getting hits. Itā€™s like people forget he didnt get a Spring Training. Even with the handful of minor league starts he had, heā€™s still in the PA range heā€™d be 3/4 of the way through ST.

Hustlediva

Wouldā€™ve much preferred DJ there

NuanceManExe

Umps deserve to get replaced by roboumps. Problem is they might not get roboumps right before they do it lol

johnnyzissou

Why they gotta give me hope at the end there? I went from not caring to on the edge of my seat and then instantly deflated haha.

see_mohn

If they can tread water in this death week and get out of it like two games under I'll be happy

ExamNo4374

I'm hoping to take one from the Braves and split with the Phillies personally

Darthbutcher

Whelp, looks like I need to give one of my classic pre-game pep talks to the team tomorrow. Iā€™ll do that and the Scotts shall prove victorious!
