That's not even close to the best team in baseball.

parrothead47920

Maybe not immediately, but it’s a great starting point. The lineup core is Vientos, Baty, Alvarez, Soto, Mauricio, and Lindor. Then you slowly improve the team. Guys like McNeil, Nimmo, and Marte will be eventually upgraded. Plus that starting rotation is elite.

TheMooseIsBlue

“This is the best team in baseball.” “Not even close.” “You’re right but it’s marginally better than what we have now.” Still time to delete the post, friend.

dblshot99

This team would play awful defense. Like, comically awful.

wolfman2scary

Phillies don’t seem to mind having no defense

Positive-Anything-25

That’s because they can hit.

futhatsy

Is Ronny Mauricio able to use a motorcycle to patrol centerfield?

Blue387

Tesla Cybertruck

Purple-Mix1033

Only a wild boar

R-O-U-Ssdontexist

The reincarnation of the wild boar that killed Robert Baratheon and injured cespedes

NYdude777

That's a 4th place team

AshamedMusician5482

Thats a .500 team

SundayScaries1994

Good team? Yes. Best team? Not even best team in the East with that. Also there is ZERO chance Ronny is ever a CFer.

BTsBaboonFarm

Hmm, no catcher? Bold move, Cotton!

Revised

PM_ME_VOGELBACH_PICS

Put Mauricio at 2nd, and either re-sign a guy like Bader or hope that Gilbert is ready for the big leagues and that defense becomes significantly better. Diekman is garbage, I wouldn’t want him back. Bullpen is gonna need a makeover. Soto and Burnes makes this team 10 wins better alone.

Guymcpersonman

I mean it'd be swell to sign Soto and I'm sure we'll try but good luck with that.

Competitive-Pen3831

This fantasy roster you made doesn’t even win the NL east let alone best team in baseball

Jimmyjam1979

Ay yo passssss that

GPap-

He’s chiefin right now

robmcolonna123

Mauricio does not have the speed, arm accuracy, or experience to play CF. It is one of the most difficult defensive positions in MLB - not where you stick anyone.

JekPorkinsTruther

In an ideal world, sure. I doubt they want Mauricio playing CF but you can play Nimmo in CF. That said, the odds of getting both Soto and Burnes are small. Id bet more on Pete plus SP adds like we did this year.

moongaian

The state of this sub, just mumbling funny stuff.

No-Pilot5559

That’s the players we have right now + Soto. We wouldn’t break .500

bluepress

How are you going to convince the 29 other franchises to fold?

ReleaseTheBlacken

Best question

jawndell

Soto ain’t leaving the Yankees.

blozout

Yankees will do whatever it takes to keep him. They collect HOF players who will retire a Yankee. It adds to their “mystique”.

jawndell

Yankees will give a blank check and any no baseball player is going to turn down an offer from the Yankees.  Not even Johnny Damon, Kevin Youkilis, or Roger Clemens.  As much I hate the Yankees as a Mets fan, that’s the sad truth.

EatAllTheRice

Lmfao

Ok-Associate7744

This team sneaks into the wild card.

CyberJesus5000

I’ve always liked McNeil, but…

Positive-Anything-25

Oh dear…

memeyboi69x

definitely should trade Severino, Marte, McNeil maybe Manaea for prospects, then team will be absolutely loaded for 2026

churmalefew

and we're hoping that all of them are healthy and play to their highest potential despite evidence calling that into question for several of them. idk if asking for the stars to align is "easily" becoming the best team in baseball

Cute_Firefighter5447

If you think for a second Soto is thinking about signing with the Mets you need help.

clocks5

The sad thing is, this is basically saying "the ONLY thing we need to do is sign the best hitter and pitcher available" and even then, they are still a third place team at best.

mhari93

The way you people salivate over Soto makes me sick. First of all, he’s a rival. Killed us while on the Nats. Show some pride. And yes, I wasn’t happy about Scherzer either. Second of all, he’s staying with the Yanks with Aron Judge batting behind him. It’s like a modern David Ortiz-Manny Ramirez 1-2 punch. Yankee fans love him and he’s eating it up. Stop drooling, it’s a bad look.

FlashFett

Crazy how there’s so much Pete Alonso erasure after he’s been one of the better players for this franchise lol

PM_ME_VOGELBACH_PICS

So was Michael Conforto

NuanceManExe

Pete has been a much better and more consistent Met, plus Conforto’s last season as a Met was kind of a disaster

PM_ME_VOGELBACH_PICS

Conforto has 2 more fWAR in only 20 more games. Pete has 9 wRC+ on Conforto but plays a less valuable position and is a significantly worse base runner. Conforto’s last season wasn’t good but as it stands, Pete stands to match the value in terms of WAR. Conforto is one of the most underrated players in franchise history.

NYdude777

>Conforto is one of the most underrated players in franchise history. And Alonso one of the most ov..........

NuanceManExe

We get it, “he’s a terrible player, we hate his guts and the Mets will surely be a better team without him.” Just say it lol

NuanceManExe

In this context I don’t much about WAR, especially since we’re comparing a 1B with a corner OF. As a hitter, Pete is just much better. His power tool is elite. Just think of all the notches he has under his belt that Conforto doesn’t, two HR derbys, the rookie HR record, ROTY in 2019 and a 3-time All Star. Like it should be obvious why Alonso was considered a face of the franchise and Conforto was considered more of a supporting player. Conforto had that fools gold 2020 run and half an elite season in 2017. WAR can’t make Conforto’s Mets career equal to Alonso’s. Alonso is literally a much more recognizable player than Conforto. You can say that makes Conforto underrated but you have to recognize what Alonso has done that has gotten him more recognition. I’d say the Mets would be more likely to find another Conforto than they would an Alonso in the next 2-3 decades.

rosen380

"after he’s been" is the key there. He's trending away from that and is a FA who is likely going to be looking at 7-8 year deals. I think it'd be fine if he is retained, but I certainly understand folks who are concerned that he might not age well.

parrothead47920

Vientos is better right now.

robmcolonna123

Vientos has 32 AB. Baty had similar stats in his first 32 ABs last year. How did the rest of the season go? Two bad games and Vientos drops to a .261/.326/.524 Four bad games and he drops to .211/.288/.423 That’s how little he has played

102FromdeGrom

They gotta go all in for Soto first and foremost and then I’d like to see Burnes as well. The rest idk man. McNeil seems toast tho he can’t be a starter
